Switching the VKontakte style to the old one. The social network VKontakte has changed its design

Greetings, my dear readers. How do you like the new design from VK? Don't like it too? That's me too. So today we'll talk about how to get everything back. It's like the same themes for Windows, but only with the help of browsers and old steels. Do you want to know how to do it? We read the post and put and make reposts -))).

Updating the appearance of products, both real objects, and, for example, changing the design of software, often turns into a headache for those who create it. Moreover, this pain begins after all the work has been done. At first glance, the result is satisfactory. After all, it has become better, clearer, more beautiful, more modern. But as soon as the new version is presented to the public, it becomes obvious that only the one who created it thinks so.

And after a few days, weeks or months, the problem disappears by itself, and there are many admirers who claim that the new design is beautiful, and personally he supported the developers from the first day, he just did not express his opinion openly. But these very first days are a great opportunity for third-party developers to show their attention and indifference to the audience, understanding their true needs. So, a month ago, after the full application of the new design of the social network Vkontakte, in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet, the topic of how to return the old design of Vkontakte to a computer was raised.

The solution was found quickly, and there is far from one option. Of course, it is not possible to change the source code of the social network itself, because this is the responsibility of only its developers. But for these purposes, browsers and extensions are actively used that can affect the appearance of individual elements or entire websites on the Internet without touching their code.

How to return the old Vkontakte design on a computer using Stylish (Chrome, Firefox, Opera)

The two most popular browsers have the Stylish extension, which is used to change the look of websites. There is no need to delve into the technical details of how it all works. It is enough to know that it uses custom CSS styles that completely rewrite the original ones.

The add-on has a million and a half Chrome users and almost 500,000 Firefox users, which leaves no doubt that it actually works.

  • App link in ChromeWebStore (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylish/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe)
  • Firefox Add-on Link (https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/stylish/)
  • Link to add-on for Opera (https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/stylish/)

There should be no problems with the installation - it happens automatically.

After installing the plugin, you need to go to this page: https://userstyles.org/styles/128986/theme.

This directly is the very CSS that is as close as possible to the old Vkontakte design. It is likely that the creator of this file did not put much effort into writing it, but simply made it when the previous VK design was in the public domain. The file will need to be downloaded and again all the necessary actions will occur automatically. It remains to update the page of the social network, and voila, August 17 did not seem to exist.

It is also worth noting that this option cannot be called ideal, because the accuracy in displaying the elements of this design directly depends on the developer. If he continues to work on the CSS file, it is quite possible to expect that users will soon get exactly what the social network used to look like.

The style mentioned above is the most popular, however, after the forced transition of all users to the new design, many others have suddenly appeared on the Internet, some of which are working on individual elements, others are finalizing inaccuracies in the new design, realizing that in the end you still have to live right with him. An excellent selection of such styles was made in one of the Vkontakte publics ( https://vk.com/old_design_vk?w=page-117993286_52792612), which collects all the information related to the topic. It is worth subscribing to it, because if over time a more convenient and effective way appears, the first thing they will learn about it is there.

How to return the old Vkontakte design in the Yandex browser

The above method is suitable for Chrome and Firefox browsers, but what if you have Yandex.Browser? Everything is simple. The fact is that it runs on the same engine as the program from Google, so it supports the same extensions. So just head over to the Chrome Web Store and download Stylish from there. All subsequent steps are the same.

There is also an option for Apple's Safari browser. The only problem is that it has not been updated for almost a year, so no one can guarantee its performance.

There are some alternatives ( https://vk.com/old_designvk), especially for the Chrome browser. However, you need to be more careful with such things, because in this case it is not so obvious how the design change itself occurs and whether something else is used besides style files.

I hope the material was useful to you. We like and subscribe to the newsletter.

Sincerely, Galiulin Ruslan.

The method is good, but it has a drawback - the action is limited to one session. If you restart your browser, you will have to click on this link again. For convenience, you can bookmark it.

Magic Label

There is another option for implementing the previous method - creating a kind of shortcut, more precisely, a file with the .html extension, which will immediately redirect you “where you should” - to the same news feed with the old design.

To create a shortcut, open notepad (or a program that replaces it) and copy the following code into it:

Russian “Christmas tree quotes” will have to be changed to regular ones, the script does not work with them.

Now, to open the VKontakte page with the old design, just double-click on this "shortcut".

miraculous script

This method will appeal to those who do not want to mess with links and shortcuts, but prefer to do all the settings once and use them all the time. In order for VK to open with the old design always and on any page, it is enough to install the Old Design VKontakte script (author Nikolai Isaev) in the browser.

The script itself is here. But to make it work, you first need to install an extension in the browser to execute user scripts.

  • For Opera, this extension is called Violent monkey. To put it, go to the page on the link and click " Add toOpera».
  • For Google Chrome it is tampermonkey. To add, follow the link and click " Install».
  • For Mozilla Firefox - Greasemonkey. Open and press Add toFirefox».
  • For Yandex browser - tampermonkey or Violent monkey. To install, follow the link and click " Add to Yandex.Browser».
  • For Safari - also tampermonkey. Open the add-on page and click " Download».

Next, go to the script download page and click " Install».

After that, we go to our favorite "VKontaktik" and rejoice at the return of the previous interface.

Please note: the "Old Design VKontakte" script is regularly updated, so if you encounter problems with displaying site page elements, downloading attachments, playback, and the like, try reinstalling it. To do this, click on the icon of Tampermonkey (or its analogues) on the browser panel and select " Check script updates».

To delete the script (if you decide to switch to a new design), in the same menu, click the item " Panel". A table of all installed userscripts will open. Select the one you don't need and in the column " Actions» click on the trash can icon.

Or just remove the extension itself from the browser.

- it is not joke. Since the transition to such an interface is obviously inevitable for everyone, the question is, how to return the old design of Vkontakte has only a temporary solution. But since albeit temporarily, disable the new Vkontakte design and it is still possible to continue working with the usual sane interface, then we will do this.

This question is relevant, perhaps, for all Vkontakte users who have become accustomed for 10 years to the simplicity and convenience of the old design and use its functionality to the fullest. In particular, this applies to those who created and administer communities and groups - the developers of the new VK.com, of course, made life difficult for them with their innovations.

By the way, for this category of VK users, I would like to give a practical recommendation: in order not to waste precious time on self-promotion of the public both on Vkontakte and on all other popular social networks, and fully concentrate on high-quality content for your community, you should contact the service social like. Judging by the numerous positive reviews, this PR team knows their business and will be able to quickly provide your group with the right number quality subscribers.

Let's return to the main question. Immediately make a reservation - we will talk about browser version social network. Android and iOS applications, alas, will not be considered in this article.

Upd. 08/17/2016. Dear Reader, in order not to waste your precious time, I would like to immediately inform you: "The uprising is suppressed, Skynet has won." Well, jokes aside, the inevitable happened: despite all the protest moods of Vkontakte users, the developers, after several “waves” of transferring users to the new design, decided that it was enough to waste time on trifles: on August 17, 2016, ALL users of the social network were transferred to the new design ... Accordingly, the new addresses .vk.com simply does not exist at the moment, and recommendations using its return do not work ...

This does not mean that there are no ways to return the old Vkontakte design now: especially for those who do not give up, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the ““ block located below in the text. There you will find a way that will probably be able to extinguish the flame of righteous anger in you.

Well, before this block, information will be given that is more of historical than practical significance: the following is a chronology of the fight against the disease called " New design Vk.com". Familiarization with this information will take you, dear Readers, not so much time, and it will probably be interesting for someone to know “how it all began”, so all previously workable methods remained in the article. So let's start.

For those who have become a “guinea pig” for Vkontakte designers involuntarily (that is, they just encountered a new interface at some point), there should be a link “Return to the old version ...”, located at the bottom of the left column with a menu and advertising. In truth, the designers clearly tried to make the tool for how to return the old version of Vkontakte as invisible as possible: gray letters on a gray background - it's hard to notice.

Those who voluntarily joined the “ranks of testers” of the new interface (by clicking on the ill-fated “Join testing” button) may not find links to return to the old version.

And how to disable the new Vkontakte design in this case?

Pay attention to the address bar of the browser:

Attention to the address bar!

As you can see, before vk.com added “ new". Those. in fact, it's a different user profile page. To return the usual vk.com/id_page, and with it to return the old version of Vkontakte, we simply “correct” the address: you need to erase “ new.". And, of course, press Enter (or the input confirmation key on a touch device).

The following result will come out:

Removed “new.” from the address, got what you need!

Familiar? Probably painfully 🙂. Yes, yes, this is the good old vk.com interface, which everyone has gotten used to over the 10 years of its existence. Well, now the matter is small: all that remains is to bookmark this page in the browser so as not to edit the address each time, and call this page after authorization on the social network.

It is not yet known exactly when the redesign of Vkontakte will “cover” everyone, so there is hope that the old version of vk.com will be used for a long time.

Upd. 06/09/2016. It seems that the Old Believers did not rejoice for long: the VK.com team began a forced transfer to a new design without the ability to return to the previous version.

Upd. No. 2 - joyful (not so joyful anymore - has lost its relevance ...)

It turns out that there is still a workable method to return the old Vkontakte interface, even to those who, it seems, were left with no options (at least for this method in VK they repeatedly thanked the “prompter”). However, we warn you right away - you will have to perform all actions at your own peril and risk, and the risk may be present. The return method of the old vk.com design is related to running scripts, and Netobserver does not guarantee that there is no code in the body of the script that can steal user login and password.

Let's consider a really working method suitable for the Google Chrome browser and its "brothers", like Yandex.Browser (browsers based on the Chromium platform):

So, the method is as follows: we find it on the Google Playmarket

Install the first plugin in the list:

After installation, the activity of the plugin can be checked by the icon in the upper right corner of the browser:

In the tab that opens, click on the "Install this script" button:

Next, a warning from Tampermonkey will appear that you should only run reliable scripts (i.e. once again warns - you act at your own peril and risk), and the installed script is displayed:

That's all - the script immediately starts its work. You just have to go to Vkontakte (or refresh the page if you are already there), and make sure that the good old vk.com is back!

Moreover, the effect will be preserved when switching between the elements of the Vkontakte menu, and upon re-entry.

This is more convenient than the method that was proposed in the comments to this article (however, I want to say “Thank you” for this option for resolving the issue “How to return the old Vkontakte design”).

There are also Tampermonkey extensions for other browsers:

  • For Ognelis: ;
  • for Opera: ;
  • at Safari - .

Well, after installing the extension for your browser, you return to the step with downloading the userscript - and then in order 🙂.

Upd. 3 - for the most stubborn.

Dear readers, you have 2 options: accept and start getting used to the new design (this is difficult, but possible - I say from my own experience), or fight to the end 🙂 . The remaining way to fight is to use custom styles. Now there are several of them being developed, and all of them are still very raw. But, as they say, on lack of fish and ...

For enthusiasts who do not give up and are ready to "get confused", we have prepared the following recommendations:

  1. Application of a user script through Tampermonkey;
  2. Using the Stylish Browser Plugin with Style Loading(most popular option) .

For those who have already learned how to work with Tampermonkey (see the description in Upd.2- above in the text), an alternative script is proposed (though very raw), returning some kind of old version. Applying it for now, perhaps, makes little sense, but you can track the changes being made - I'm sure that after a while this user style will work much better.

https://userstyles.org/styles/userjs/128986/%D0%A1%D1%82%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%8B%D0%B9%20%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0 %B7%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BD%20%D0%92%D0%9A.user.js

The script will need to be edited. Specifically, the following lines are of interest (from 7 to 10):

// @include http://new.vk.com/*
// @include https://new.vk.com/*
// @include http://*.new.vk.com/*
// @include https://*.new.vk.com/*

You need to remove "new." on lines 7 and 8, ".new" on lines 9 and 10.

It should turn out like this:

The Stylish plugin is the most publicized version of the return of the old Vkontakte design

In principle, the Stylish algorithm is similar to the Tampermonkey method, with the only difference being that Stylish, unlike the latter, works with styles, not scripts.

Warning: Do not run Tampermonkey with Stylish! Although both plugins are designed to do, in principle, the same thing, it’s not a fact that using them together will lead to twice the best result (rather a fact that it won’t 🙂).

So, if you have already tested the first method and decided to move on to the second, first deactivate the Tampermonkey plugin.

After installing the extension, you need to make sure that it is activated. For Chrome, the picture will be as follows: an icon with the letter “S” will appear in the upper right corner of the browser:

The next step is to download the style from the developer's site: .

On the page that opens, you will need to use the big green button - it's hard to miss it:

Judging by the speed of releases, the author is trying very hard to eliminate all the shortcomings that are currently available. Therefore, I recommend that you bookmark this page so that after a few days (weeks) you can download the modified style for Vkontakte, which will no longer be so raw.

In the meantime, let everything be the same for you as the lucky one who left such a review:

Dear readers, if you have alternative methods for reverting to the old Vkontakte design, feel free to leave them in the comments! We are also waiting for the feedback of those who were helped by the above recommendations.

Good mood to you all!

Article How to return the old Vkontakte design - disable the new version was modified: May 4, 2017 by the author netobserver

For a long time, the design of Vkontakte has changed in detail, delighting users with the addition of new features or frustrating the removal of old ones. Suffice it to recall the moment when the local "currency" - votes - suddenly ceased to exist. But all these changes were minor compared to the recent update.

Since August 17, 2016, the Vkontakte social networking site has forcibly and irrevocably switched to a new design. Up to this point, users were prompted to switch between the new and old design in test mode, and some users have this feature, but most do not have the coveted “switch to old design” link in the settings. Of course, for some, the new design is more convenient, it is more optimized for browsing through mobile devices, which makes it easier to use for a simple layman, but in many ways it turns out to be less practical for specialists. The greater the annoyance of forced switching to it, with no choice. Therefore, users are looking for ways to switch to the old design, and some even create their own extension modules. A much simpler way, allowing anyone to return the old VKontakte design, is to install a standard browser extension that allows you to change the display style of the necessary pages.

A simple and reliable way to return the old design of VKontakte

This method requires the user to perform several simple operations, which boil down to downloading and configuring the appropriate extension, modifications of which exist for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and other browsers. One such extension is Stylish. We will consider the option with Google Chrome as the most common browser:

Regarding simpler methods for returning the old version of Vkontakte

Unfortunately, there are no simpler methods to “return the old VKontakte design”. The "go to the old design" link, which used to be securely hidden in the new design, is now missing as a class. Writing scripts on your own, even for an experienced programmer, will take more time than installing an extension + style. Thus, any simple solution to the problem will be a variation on the above method.

Stylish is one of the many extensions that allow you to use custom scripts to change the visual part of the site design. Javascript must be enabled in the browser for the extension to work. Scripts for Stylish are written by people, so in some cases the result obtained in this way will be far from ideal. However, with a timely update of the style, there will eventually come a moment when its author writes down all the necessary parameters. Also among the available styles, you can choose intermediate versions of the design, which will have the advantages of old and new.

It will not be possible to fully return the old VK design, but you can get as close as possible to the old style of visual design. If the scripting options offered by Stylish are not to your liking, the closest alternative is the Tampermonkey extension. Despite the fact (or rather, due to the fact ...) that both extensions serve the same purpose, they may not work correctly in parallel. Therefore, it is better to remove or deactivate the first one before installing the second one, and vice versa.

VKontakte users who are dissatisfied with the transition of the social network to a new design are in for a pleasant surprise from an anonymous developer: using a browser plugin, you can return the old familiar look of the site. The developer writes that the version of the style is a test one, but 20,000 people have already downloaded it.

The new design of VKontakte, which has become mandatory for all users of the social network since August 17 and caused a wave of discontent, including those, can now be changed. Developer Kesantielu Dasefern has created a CSS plugin style that allows you to bring back elements of the old design.

Attention, this is a preliminary version, only a small part has been implemented. Contains many errors. There will be a revised version soon.

To switch to the old design, you need to install the Stylish plugin available for Chrome, Firefox and Opera, and then download the "Old VK Design" stylesheet from Userstyles.org. The CSS style returns the usual VKontakte design elements; to improve its work, the developer also advises downloading an additional script.

In less than two days, the style was downloaded by more than 36,000 people. Many users complain about crashes in its work, but others write that everything is in order and thank Kesantielu Dasefern.

The developer announced the collection of money and promises to fix the problems, he publishes the news about the return of the old VKontakte design in the group
