Setting up hardware and software

Working with the aomei partition assistant program. Partition your hard drive using the free AOMEI Partition Assistant program

Let me remind you that hard drive partitions are, simply put, areas on your hard drive that are allocated for ease of use. You can split the HDD into partitions either during the operating system installation process, or later, but using specialized programs, because Windows initially does not have tools for more or less flexible work with partitions.

Manipulating Windows partitions while being right in it using special programs is, of course, convenient, but it is not less safe than performing these operations from a boot disk! From a boot disk - this means that we will work with partitions using the program even before loading Windows itself, and this option is more reliable.

Therefore, in today’s article I will tell you how to work with AOMEI Partition Assistant as a free downloadable version - another program for editing hard drive partitions!

You may be wondering: “Why did you show how to work with partitions using EaseUS Partition Master in Windows, but use completely different software as the boot version?”

But the fact is that EaseUS Partition Master does not include the ability to create a boot disk in its free functionality. But AOMEI Partition Assistant can perform almost all the same functions, but there is also a free option to create a boot disk.

Unfortunately, a boot disk can only be created from the interface of a program already installed on the computer, so let's start by installing the AOMEI Partition Assistant utility.

You perform all operations on partitions at your own peril and risk. I tested the program and did not encounter any problems with the system after using it. But there are always risks, no matter what program you use! I recommend making backup copies of your data, for example, using Acronis True Image.

Download and Install AOMEI Partition Assistant

Disk-partition.com

Scroll down the window and click the “Download Freeware” button under the “Download AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard” heading:

In the next window, click “Download now”:

Aomei Partition Assistant will automatically start downloading to your computer.

Launch the downloaded program (if the browser downloaded it automatically, it will most likely be located in the “Downloads” folder):

The Aomei Partition Assistant setup wizard will launch before installation. There is nothing special about the installation itself, everything is easy and intuitive.

In the first window, check that the Russian language is selected and click “OK”:

We accept the terms of the license agreement and click “Next” again:

In the next window, you have the option to change the installation path for Aomei Partition Assistant. I recommend that you always install programs in the default folder. But if it is very necessary for some reason, then change the installation folder by clicking on the “Browse” button. Then click “Next”:

Next, you can specify a folder in the Start menu in which the shortcut to launch the program will be stored, and often other shortcuts related to the program. Again, there is little point in changing the name of the folder, so it is easier to leave the one that is set by default. Click “Next”:

In the next step, you can enable the creation of shortcuts to launch the program in the Start menu and on the desktop, which will appear after installing it:

And in the last window we see 2 options. If you check the first one, Aomei Partition Assistant will launch immediately after clicking the “Finish” button. The second option, if enabled, will launch a short training session for this program. Since the program is in English, the training, accordingly, will also be in English, which means the second option can be turned off. Moreover, we will look at how to work with Aomei Partition Assistant in this article. Click “Finish”:

Installation completed!

Creating a boot disk and working with the AOMEI Partition Assistant program

The program interface is very similar to that of the EaseUS Partition Master program. This program can work with partitions directly in Windows, but I promised to show everything using the example of the boot version, which, in principle, will not differ in any way in terms of interface.

To create a boot disk, in the AOMEI Partition Assistant program, go to the “Wizard” menu and select “Make bootable CD master”:

In the window, select the first item (Create a simple Windows PE) and click “Next”:

In the next window we are offered 3 options:

In general, select the option that is convenient for you and click “Go”. If you choose to record to a disk or flash drive, then do not forget to immediately insert the corresponding media into the computer :)

After you have written the program to a disk or flash drive, you can start working with the program.

Now you need to prepare your computer to boot from a disk or flash drive (depending on what media you recorded on) and boot.

After you run the boot version of the program, you will see that it is no different from the one that runs in Windows.

Now let's look at how to work with Aomei Partition Assistant and go through the most basic and useful functions of the program.

All operations that you can perform with partitions are located on the left side of the program, in the “Operations on Partitions” window. You can also see these same operations by opening the “Section” menu at the top of the program:

In the center of the program is the main window where your sections are displayed.

In my example (see image above), you can see 2 created sections: “D” and “C”. Sections can be combined into one, and to do this, select one of the sections, and then click on the “Merge Sections” button:

In the window, check the boxes next to the sections that we want to merge, then below select the letter that will be assigned to the merged section and click “OK”:

The main window of the Aomei Partition Assistant program now displays one partition with the letter that I specified. But the sections aren't actually merged yet! This operation was performed as if in virtual mode, which now needs to be confirmed in order to perform the action in reality.

All operations that you have performed, but have not yet confirmed, will accumulate in the “Pending Operations” window on the left.

In order to apply the actions, click on the “Apply” button.

In the window that opens, we are warned that a reboot is required to complete the operation. Click on the “Go” button:

Confirm the reboot in the next window by clicking “Yes”:

It happens that Aomei Partition Assistant for some reason does not want to reboot and perform the planned action. In this case, try closing the window, selecting a section in the program, and clicking the “Apply” button again. As a rule, after 2-3 attempts it is possible to complete the operation without rebooting at all.

After the operation is completed, we will see the corresponding message:

Now you will actually have 2 sections combined into one!

You can also, on the contrary, divide one partition into 2. For example, when installing the system, you decided to make one partition for everything, but then changed your mind because the partition is very large and decided to allocate a separate partition for your data, and let the system and programs be installed on one .

Select the section and click on the “Split Section” button in the operations window:

In the window, you need to move the slider to indicate the sizes of the partitions that will be obtained after the divisions. The same can be done manually by entering the required values in numbers in the appropriate fields. Then click “OK”:

In the program, you can simply reduce the size of the selected partition, thereby creating unallocated disk space from which you can create a new partition. Or you can increase the partition size using free space if some part of your disk is not partitioned. To resize a partition, select it again and click on the “Resize / Move” button:

In the window that opens, you need to move the slider, thereby reducing or increasing the size of the partition. My partition takes up all the space on my hard drive, so, accordingly, I can only reduce it. You can also specify the new partition size manually below, in the corresponding “Partition size” field.

Using the same tool, you can move a partition on your hard drive (move). To do this, check the “I need to move this section” checkbox and then, holding the mouse cursor on the section at the top of the window, move it left or right:

Click “OK” to save the changes.

In the main window of Aomei Partition Assistant in preview mode, we will see that the partition size has changed, and below there is an additional unallocated area, which can then be turned into a partition. In the “Pending Operations” window we see that there is one unapplied operation to change the disk size. Click on the “Apply” button to perform the pending action:

You can create a new partition from the existing unallocated area (marked with an asterisk). To do this, select this area and in the operations window click “Create partition”:

In the settings window, we, in principle, only need to specify the letter of the partition to be created. But you can also specify the size (using the sliders or manually in the “Partition size” field), for example, if you do not want the partition to be created to cover the entire free area of the disk. Click the “OK” button:

Don't forget to apply the created preliminary operation using the "Apply" button!

Above we discussed the basic operations in Aomei Partition Assistant for working with partitions that the tools built into Windows itself cannot do. The program can also format (i.e. clear all data) the necessary partitions, delete partitions, change labels. This can already be done in Windows itself. True, you won’t be able to format the system drive through Windows (usually drive “C”) if you want to do so. This is because the system cannot delete the data that is part of the system. But you can format the system disk using this program “AOMEI Partition Assistant”, or similar ones.

Always use such programs with caution! For example, I first test them on virtual machines and then check if everything is ok with the system itself. And only after that I can start working with the real system (and then, having saved a backup copy of the data).

I think that after reading this material, you will have no questions about how to work with Aomei Partition Assistant.

Unlike the “old lady” XP, for installation of 32- and 64-bit systems they require a minimum of 16 GB and 20 GB of space on the system partition of the hard drive, drive C, respectively. But this is only the technical minimum. For modern programs and games this is a negligible amount. A system partition of 80-100 GB is the standard for ordinary users today. And if you also install resource-intensive games on the system drive, the standard 80-100 GB may not be enough. Thus, the system partition of the disk, unlike non-system and removable media, should never be 100% full. At least 15% of the C drive should always be free to ensure Windows performance.

What if the size of drive C is so small that system notifications about the lack of free space on it, Windows slowing down and freezing are quite a common thing in computer operation? How to enlarge drive C without losing data, so that the system always has access to its legal 15% of disk space for its own needs?

If storing user files on a non-system drive is only welcome in order to avoid their loss if Windows fails, then the constant fuss of emptying the recycle bin, “Temp” folders, Internet cache and other temporary files is far from a thorough solution to the problem of free space on the system drive . A radical solution to the problem can only be to increase the system partition at the expense of the size of other, non-system disk partitions. We will talk about this in more detail below.

1. AOMEI Partition Assistant

Earlier in the article "" we looked at the opposite process of increasing the system partition: the size of drive C was reduced, and a non-system disk was formed from the remaining space. For these purposes we used the program AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition– hard disk partition manager, a free analogue of professional programs for system specialists like Paragon Hard Disk Manager And Acronis Disk Director. We will also use AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition in this case to increase the system partition of the disk.

Download the program from the developer’s website and install it. The installation of AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition is standard.

2. Data backup

Hard disk partition managers are far from being programs whose functionality you can experiment with, quenching your thirst for curiosity and expanding your experience as a PC user. It is necessary to redistribute the computer's disk space while maintaining the functionality of the operating system and user data in strict accordance with the instructions below. Having a backup copy of both the system and significant user files in cloud storage or on removable media is welcome. There are a huge number of programs on the software market for system backup and recovery, including the free AOMEI Backupper Standard, the brainchild of the developer AOMEI Technology, who created the AOMEI Partition Assistant program.

3. Expansion of the system partition of the disk due to part of the non-system partition

Well, let's get down to work on increasing the space on drive C. In AOMEI Partition Assistant, expanding the system partition by taking away space on one of the non-system disk partitions is the simplest procedure that does not require either running the program in preboot mode or even restarting Windows. Moreover, everything happens without damage to the system itself and without loss of user data.

Launch AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition. In the program window we will see a representation of the existing disk partitions - 350 MB reserved by the system, system drive C, non-system partitions, additional hard drives or flash drives, if any. At the top of the program window, disk partitions are presented in a data table, and at the bottom you can see their visual layout.

To increase drive C, we will use a test one with a small hard drive size - only 25 GB. Regardless of the size of the hard drive, the procedure for increasing the system partition on a physical computer will be exactly the same.

So, we have a system partition C with a size of 20 GB and a non-system partition F with a size of 4.56 GB. First, we won’t completely destroy the non-system partition of the hard drive, we’ll just take half of the volume from it and give this half to drive C.

Important! In no case should disk C be enlarged at the expense of the 350 MB reserved by the system. This is Windows' emergency reserve.

Open the program menu “ Master" and in the list of commands select " Split Wizard Extension" The same command is also available in the quick access panel to some functions in the program window on the left.

In the wizard window that appears, the option we need is preinstalled - this is extending the system partition. Click " Further».

If the hard drive has several non-system partitions, in the window for selecting the partition through which drive C will expand, select the one you need. In our case, there is only one non-system partition; it is selected by the program by default. Click " Further».

We get to the window for setting the size of the future system disk. Either using the slider or in the table for setting numerical indicators, you need to set the new size of the system drive C. As mentioned, for Windows to work smoothly, it needs at least 80 GB. In our case, we will symbolically increase the system partition by a little more than 2 GB, leaving approximately the same amount for the non-system partition. Click " Further».

Detailed information about the planned operation. Click " Go».

AOMEI Partition Assistant will issue a warning that during the operation it is better to leave the computer alone and not carry out any parallel actions. Click " Yes».

Upon completion of the operation, click “ OK».

Then - " End».

After this, go back to the Extend Disk Partition Wizard window, click “ Cancel" to get out of it.

In the main window of AOMEI Partition Assistant we will see a transformed picture of the hard drive partitions - the system partition C will be enlarged, while the non-system partition will be reduced.

The same picture will be displayed in Windows Explorer.

4. Enlargement of the system disk partition by merging with a non-system one

If one of the non-system partitions of the hard disk is not needed, its entire space can be attached to the system partition. In our case, we return to the original picture of the hard drive partitions, where we have drive C – system – and drive F – non-system. The latter will soon disappear, giving all its space to the needs of Windows. As in the previous case, nothing will happen to the system itself or to user files - after merging the partitions, all data will be in place.

In the main window of AOMEI Partition Assistant on the system partition, call up the context menu and click “ Merging partitions».

The program will return to the main window, where we will observe the future picture of the disk partitions. As you can see, the non-system partition F has disappeared, and the size of drive C has become larger. Click the button " Apply».

In the window with detailed information about the planned operation, click “ Go».

Confirm your decision by clicking “ Yes».

We are waiting for the operation to complete.

Click " OK».

As with extending the system partition, a Windows restart is not required. In the system explorer window, we can observe the disappearance of the non-system partition, while the system partition has grown.

That's it - the problem with constant lack of space on drive C is solved forever.

Did this article help you?

8.1 requires at least 16 GB of free space on the system disk. But these are requirements only for installing the operating system itself; the space for software that will later be installed on the system disk is not taken into account. Taking this into account, it is recommended to allocate at least 50 GB of space for the system partition of the disk. Or even more. The fact is that when the system partition of the disk is full and there is less than 1 GB of space left on it, Windows begins to slow down and freeze terribly.

Of course, this problem can be solved by periodically cleaning folders with temporary files, storing videos, photos and music on a non-system partition of the disk, and reinstalling resource-intensive programs on it, but all this is not a thorough solution to the problem. The problem can be thoroughly solved only by increasing the volume of the system disk partition. And this can be done by taking away part of the space from another partition of the disk - a non-system one.

How to increase the size of drive C or the system drive without losing data - we will consider this question below.

Working with hard drive partitions - creating them, redistributing volumes, deleting them - is actually a simple process, just risky. One wrong step, one seemingly harmless option set at random, can destroy both the system and all the data contained on the hard drive. There is special software for working with disk partitions; many have probably heard of or even encountered such functional software packages for working with hard disks as Acronis Disk Director or Paragon Hard Disk Manager. But we will not expand the system partition of the disk with their help, but will take a simpler route.

- This is an analogue of the above-mentioned software products for working with. Unlike the latter, AOMEI Partition Assistant is less known, but this in no way detracts from its advantages - the functionality is implemented in it without unnecessary problems that can often be seen in professional software for system engineers. The only drawback that can be noted is the imperfect translation into Russian - in some places mechanical, in others incomplete. However, this drawback will not prevent us from doing the work of expanding the system partition of the hard drive without losing data. Moreover, the program allows you to carry out this operation relatively quickly (depending on the volume added to the system partition), even without rebooting the computer.

You need to download and install the AOMEI Partition Assistant program. In our case, we will use Professional Edition 5.5, which is what we recommend.

Launch the program and you will see a picture of your hard drive, in particular, which partitions take up how much space. Clearly determine for yourself how many gigabytes you want to increase the system disk partition and at the expense of which of the other partitions this increase will occur if you have more than two disk partitions on your computer. On the left side of the AOMEI Partition Assistant program window, so-called wizards for working with certain tasks will be displayed, click the first one - “Extension of the partitioner wizard” (check out one of the “masterpieces” of mechanical translation of the program).

The wizard window will launch. Here you need the "Extend system partition" option. Click "Next".

The wizard's welcome window will appear, telling you that the disk partition you selected will be enlarged without losing data or even rebooting. Click "Next".

Then you will see a window for selecting a disk partition, due to which the system partition will be expanded if you have more than two disk partitions on your computer. Accordingly, exactly as much as you increase the system partition, the partition you select will be reduced. Select this section and click “Next”.

You will be taken to settings where you need to specify the new size of the system partition. Drag the slider to approximately the volume you need and specify the number (if necessary) in the table below. Click "Next".

A window will appear with complete information about the operation being performed. Click “Go” if you do not want to change anything.

The status of the ongoing operation to expand the system disk will be displayed in the next program window. Here you can set the option to turn off the computer if you go to bed or go somewhere. And the AOMEI Partition Assistant program will turn off the computer after completing its work.

When the operation to expand the system disk partition is completed, AOMEI Partition Assistant will issue a notification about it. Click "OK".

When you return to the main window of AOMEI Partition Assistant, you will again see a picture of your hard drive partitions. But the system partition of the disk will already be enlarged.

That's it - now you can freely manage the space on the system disk partition and not be afraid that an extra installed program that requires installation only on the system disk will interfere with Windows performance as a whole.

Hello admin, the question is, I decided to create drive D: at the expense of drive C: (the volume of drive C: with Windows 8.1 installed is 500 GB, 40 GB occupied), went into Disk Management, right-clicked on drive C: and selected "Compress volume"

and the following sentence came up: “Space available for compression” - 50 GB, respectively, “Size of compressed space” is also 50 GB and cannot be increased in any way.

That is, if I compress drive C: by 50 GB, then drive D: I will also have 50 GB, which is of course not enough and I need at least 300 GB for drive D:.

I went online and they advised me to defragment and disable the page file, but it didn’t help me. Then I came across your articles and my eyes widened.

Is there a program like the free EaseUs Partition Master Free, but only in Russian?

How to create disk D with a free program (and in Russian) AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition

Friends, there are situations when in the built-in Disk Management utility in Windows 8.1 you cannot partition the hard drive (as you need) and nothing can solve this problem, neither by deleting the paging file, nor by disabling sleep mode, nor by defragmentation.

In this case, a special program from the class of hard disk partition managers will help you create disk D: of the required size.

I recently started testing a relatively new, free (and in Russian) program of a similar class called AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition. Over the course of a whole month, I tested it on various computers and laptops and came to the conclusion that I could introduce you to it.

So, there have already been two articles about the work of the program:

In today's article we will create the D: drive using this program.

  • AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard- a program for managing partitions on a hard drive without losing data, the program is free for home and commercial use!
  • Friends, AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard is a disk partition manager and if you make a mistake somewhere, you can lose your data, so before working with the program, I recommend making a backup of all partitions of your hard drive. In my opinion, all users should be able to create a Windows backup and deploy it if necessary. Articles to help.
  • in the manufacturer's built-in Recovery Media Creator program.

Let's go to the official website AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 5.6, link

http://www.disk-partition.com/download.html

and click Download Freeware

If you want, download the program in the archive from my Yandex.Disk

The program is very easy to install.

After successful installation, launch the program

and in the main window of AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 5.6, right-click on the drive (C:) and select “Resize partition”.

In the “Move and resize partition” window, use the left mouse to grab the delimiter and drag it to the left, thereby freeing up space for the disk (D:)

Leave for drive C: 150 GB, and for drive D: select 315 GB and click OK.

In the main window of the program we see that we have unallocated space on the hard drive just for volume D:. Right-click on the unallocated space and select “Create partition”

Allocate all 314 GB to drive D: and click OK.

The AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 5.6 program works in deferred operation mode and to implement our changes you need to click the "Apply" button

The “Delayed operations” window, in it you can see everything that we have planned. Click "Go"

The program requires a reboot to continue working. We agree and click Yes.

The computer restarts. AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition asks us if we have changed our mind and waits 10 seconds. If you change your mind, press any key. If you haven't changed your mind, don't press anything, just wait 10 seconds.

then the first phase of the program begins - creating unallocated space for the future D: drive.

Go to "Disk Management" and see our created drive D.
