How to quickly remove the background in Photoshop. How to remove the white background from an image

For artistic design of works in Photoshop, we often need clipart. This individual elements designs such as various frames, leaves, butterflies, flowers, character figurines and much more.

Clipart is obtained in two ways: bought on stocks or searched in public access through search engines. In the case of stocks, everything is simple: we pay money and get the required picture in high resolution and on a transparent background.

If we decide to find the desired element in the search engine, then we are waiting for one an unpleasant surprise- the picture in most cases is located on some background that interferes with its instant use.

Today we will talk about how to remove the black background from the picture. The image for the tutorial looks like this:

There is one obvious solution to the problem - cut the flower out of the background with some suitable tool.

But this method is not always suitable, as it is quite laborious. Imagine that you carved a flower, spent a lot of time on it, and then decided that it did not quite fit the composition. All work is down the drain.

There are several ways to quickly remove a black background. These methods may be somewhat similar, but they are all subject to study, as they are used in different situations.

Method 1: the fastest

There are tools in Photoshop that allow you to quickly remove plain background from picture. This "Magic wand" And "Magic Eraser". Since about "Magic wand" a whole treatise has already been written on our website, then we will use the second tool.

Before you start, do not forget to create a copy of the original image using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+J. For convenience, we will also remove the visibility from the background layer so that it does not interfere.

The background is removed, but we see a black halo around the flower. This always happens when separating light objects from a dark background (or dark from light), when we use the "smart" tools. This halo is removed quite easily.

1. Hold down the key CTRL and left click on the thumbnail of the flower layer. A selection will appear around the object.

2. Go to the menu "Select - Modify - Compress". This function will allow us to move the edge of the selection inside the flower, thus leaving the halo outside.

3. The minimum compression value is 1 pixel, and we will write it in the field. Don't forget to press OK to trigger the function.

4. Next we need to remove this pixel from the flower. To do this, invert the selection with the keys CTRL+SHIFT+I. Notice how the selection now covers the entire canvas, excluding the object.

5. Just press a key DELETE on the keyboard, and then remove the selection with a combination CTRL+D.

The clip art is ready to go.

Method 2: Screen blend mode

The following method is perfect if the object needs to be placed on a different dark background. True, there are two nuances here: the element (preferably) should be as light as possible, preferably white; after applying the technique, the colors may be distorted, but this is easy to fix.

When removing the black background in this way, we must first place the flower in the right place on the canvas. It is understood that we already have a dark background.

This method is also suitable for quickly determining whether an element will fit into the composition, that is, simply placing it on the canvas and changing the blend mode, without removing the background.

Method 3: difficult

This technique will help you cope with the separation of complex objects from a black background. First you need to lighten the image as much as possible.

1. Apply an Adjustment Layer "Levels".

2. Move the rightmost slider to the left as much as possible, making sure that the background remains black.

3. Go to the layers palette and activate the flower layer.

5. By clicking on the channel thumbnails in turn, we find out which one has the most contrast. In our case, it's blue. We do this in order to create the most solid selection for filling the mask.

6. Having selected a channel, hold down CTRL and click on its thumbnail to create a selection.

7. Go back to the layers palette, on the flower layer, and click on the mask icon. The created mask will automatically take the form of a selection.

8. Turn off the visibility of the layer with "Levels", take a white brush and paint over those areas that remained black on the mask. In some cases, this is not necessary, perhaps these areas should be transparent. In this case, we need the center of the flower.

9. Get rid of the black halo. In this case, the operation will be slightly different, so let's repeat the material. We clamp CTRL and click on the mask.

10. Repeat the steps described above (compress, invert the selection). Then we take a black brush and go through the border of the flower (halo).

Here are three ways to remove a black background from pictures, we studied in this lesson. At first glance, the option "Magic Eraser" seems to be the most correct and universal, but it does not always allow you to get an acceptable result. That is why it is necessary to know several tricks to complete one operation in order not to waste time.

Remember that what distinguishes a professional from an amateur is variability and the ability to solve any problem, regardless of its complexity.

In the case when you need to remove part of it from the picture, you should read the article on how to easily remove the background in Photoshop.

Removing the background- this is one of the first serious difficulties that beginners face when working with Photoshop. Here we will consider the main popular and enough simple ways who will make possible removal background from any photo.

1. Using an eraser

Photoshop has a number of special tools, among which you can find an eraser and a magic eraser. It is available on every version of the program.
This method is perfect when you need to remove the white background in the photo. The eraser is unlikely to accept other fills:
1. Here he is Magic eraser" on the picture:

2. Double click on the white background of the image. And the eraser itself will define all the borders of the main photo and the background. To remove the auxiliary background, click on " Delete". Some versions of Photoshop allow you to do this simply by clicking, after selection, the background will automatically be deleted.

As you probably noticed, the eraser also removed part of the sword, which was white, and also affected the costume. This effect can be removed. You can do it like this:
- open the settings panel (parameters) of the Magic Eraser. Check the "Adjacent Pixels" item. This item must be ticked. The presence of this item will enable the tool to remove and select only sets of pixels that are in contact with each other. That is, elements of the picture will not be so “radically” removed.

- now go to the "Tolerance" parameter in the settings of the same eraser. Its location can be seen in the third figure. The higher the value of the point, the more likely it is that the eraser will remove unwanted background tints. By increasing the parameter, adjust so that not all elements of the object in the picture are selected. If this method, for some reason, did not remove the desired border, go to " Layer". Then click on "Edge Treatment", where activate the item " remove border».

Result:

2. Remove the background with the Magic Wand.

An equally popular way to remove the background in the photo. The Magic Wand element is found in many photo editors. To remove the background, open the desired photo in Photoshop. Wait for all items to load. Choose a special item Quick Selection". In the drop-down list, select one of the tools - "Magic Wand".

The rest of the steps are identical to working with the magic eraser. Just move the mouse over the background part of the image, after which it will be highlighted. Next, remove the background with Backspace.
To unlock the background go to " Layers". Click on the lock to set it to the "Open" position. And then use the tool Magic wand».

If the first method is used to remove the background, then the second is best used to remove the colored parts of the background.

3. Removing the background inside the picture

Not a rare request - how to remove the background inside the picture. This method is quite there, and is suitable for working with BW images or drawings.

After removing the background, in theory, you should get a completely transparent image, with a clearly visible outline of the car. But to do this, you will first need to create a copy of the "blue channel" in the photo. To do this, click Ctrl+L. This is how the Levels window appears. Adjust the sliders so that all colors gray color looked like solid black.

Select the thumbnail of the copy of this channel that was created from the very beginning. While selecting, hold down Ctrl. As a result, the image will be highlighted. Invert it with Shift+Ctrl+L. Now clicking on Backspace, delete the extra layer. A copy of it can be created using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+J. After the background is removed and the texture is set in its place, something like this will turn out:

4. Adding a background to the picture

Most often, background removal is done in order to replace the color, texture of the background of the photo. Consider a way to replace the background of an image that you have removed the back layer from.

Add any texture to this drawing project:

Any designer, regardless of his qualifications, is faced with a situation where you need to remove the background on the image, leaving the necessary object intact. And if with simple objects everything is more or less successful, then complex ones present a real problem for the designer.

But before I show you some great ways to remove a background in Photoshop, it's worth clearing up a few things. For example, what is a complex object? For me, the hard part is everything that can't be cut with the Pen Tool. This category includes: hair, wool, grass, leaves, clouds and so on. It is precisely for the extraction of such objects that today's lesson was created.

Method One: Using Channels

Removing the background using channels is perhaps one of the most effective, fastest and most popular ways IF this background is homogeneous. For example white.

For example, a charming girl.

Go to the Channels tab (you can add it through the Window menu) and select the channel that makes the object the most contrasting in relation to the background. In this case, it's blue.

We duplicate it. CTRL+J doesn't work, so right click and select duplicate channel. We turn off all channels, except for the duplicated one. Next, press the key combination CTRL + L and adjust the sliders so that there is maximum contrast between the background and the edges of the object.

Fine. Now select the brush tool and paint over the object with black. More or less like this:

The simplest remains. Hold down CTRL, click on the icon of the duplicated channel in the channels panel to create a selection. Then we turn on all previously turned off channels, and delete the duplicated one. It is very important that in the end, the RGB channel remains selected. Without removing the selection, go to the layers tab and press Delete. That's all.

If the background is not uniform, you will have to tinker a lot. Let's look at the next method.

Method Two: Using Refine Edge

This feature has been around in Photoshop for a long time. If translated into Russian, then the function is called the Exact Edge. It allows you to remove a complex background from a complex object as well as it can be done automatically. I propose to train on cats, and, in the literal sense of the word.

With the help of any tool convenient for you, we will create such a rough selection ...

... and go to Select - Refine Edge.

There are no exact settings. It all depends solely on your image. Through trial and error, I came up with something like this:

Of course, the result is not perfect, and it cannot be. We'll have to use a brush to conjure a little. But it will take many times less time than carving a lion by hand. Others, more effective ways remove complex background does not exist. That's probably all.

In custody

I hope you find this lesson useful. In any case, I use the methods discussed today all the time when I make banners or collages. Maybe you know other ways to get rid of the background?

When working with images, very often you have to remove background in photoshop at the picture. The ability to do this is one of the basic basic skills in Photoshop. There are several ways to do this. In this lesson we will get acquainted with one of the most simple and quick ways performing such an operation. You will probably ask how to remove background in photoshop quick and easy? So let's get started.

Before proceeding to the lesson, First, let's get acquainted with the tool with which we will remove the background from the image. This tool is called the Magic Eraser. Principle of operation this instrument is as follows: "Magic Eraser" removes pixels that are similar in color at the point of mouse click, it also automatically converts the background layer to normal. This tool is great for instantly removing large areas of solid color.

To competently and skillfully use the Magic Eraser tool, let's get acquainted with its parameters:

http://website/

1) Tolerance. This parameter sets the sensitivity of the tool and determines the range of similar colors (in percent). The higher the tolerance, the wider the range of colors that will be erased.
2) Smoothing.Softens the borders of the area being erased.
3) Adjacent pixels. If you want to erase pixels that are in contact with each other, leave this box checked. If you want to erase pixels of a similar color no matter where they are in the image, clear this check box.
4) Sample from all layers.Check (Use All Layers) to have the Magic Eraser erase areas of the active layer based on the color of the pixels on all visible layers. If this option is disabled, the tool analyzes only the colors of the active layer, only the pixels of the active layer will be erased.
5) Opacity.Sets the transparency of the eraser. If you want to control how effective the Magic Eraser is, you can enter a value (in percentage) in this field. For example, entering the number 50 will cause it to erase 50 percent of the image's opacity, entering 100 will remove the entire image.

My settings for the parameters of this tool, you can see above in the screenshot, highlighted in red.

So, let's move from words to deeds. To remove the white background from the alarm clock, take the Magic Eraser tool and left-click 2 times on the white background. Once outside the alarm, the second time at the top inside the alarm. For example, I highlighted in red the places where I clicked with a magic eraser.

Photoshop tutorial: how to quickly remove, remove or cut out the background

Graphics editor Adobe Photoshop allows you to create almost any operation with the image. Many photographers regularly change the background in this program. And sometimes it is completely removed. Then the background becomes transparent, which becomes especially relevant when placing an image in a magazine, when you need to achieve proper wrapping. Transparent background may be needed in some other situations. Now you will learn how you can quickly cut out the background, making it transparent.

How to remove or cut background in Photoshop?

Our lesson will be based on a photo of an iron. The fact is that this item is easy to highlight, even a novice user can handle this task. After going through the basics, you will quickly understand how to cut out the background in Photoshop and in a picture with a person. It just takes a little more time.

In our example, the background is completely colored in White color. But in fact, it does not matter at all, it can be painted in any color. It can even be some kind of flowering meadow, it will not become more difficult to cut out the background from this. It is only necessary that the object be clear, with an easily defined contour. If the camera was out of focus at the time of shooting, then only then problems may arise with the selection.

Solving the problem of how to remove the background in Photoshop begins with a selection. But the first step is to unlock the current layer. Now it has the name "Background". Go to the Layers panel and double click on given title. A dialog box will pop up asking you to name the layer differently. Take advantage of this opportunity and click OK.

Now we need to select our iron. To do this, you can use one of two tools. The first is the Magnetic Lasso. A good option, but it is more suitable for those objects that are difficult to separate from the background. Also, this tool is indispensable for highlighting a person. In our case, it is better to use the Quick Selection tool. Select it and then adjust the brush size. Now you need to click on the object until it is fully selected. If you accidentally drove into an area with a background, then click on it, after holding Shift key. Gradually, the item you selected will be highlighted.

But it's still not perfect. If now without hesitation to invert the selection and cut out the background, then the result will obviously not suit you. Along with the background, some pieces from the contour of the object of interest will disappear. Therefore, the selection should be made as accurately as possible. But it would take too much time to refine it manually. Fortunately, Adobe program Photoshop knows how to independently adjust the selection to suit your needs. To do this, you just need to launch a special tool using the Refine Edge button. It is due to this function that you can quickly remove the background in Photoshop, spending a minimum of time on selection.

how to remove background in photoshop cs5

Pressing the button will suddenly turn the white background black. Don't be scared, it's just easier to keep track of changes. The dotted selection line will disappear, now it does not interfere with viewing the outline of the object. And after pressing the button, a dialog box will pop up. In it, you immediately need to check the box next to the "Smart radius" item. Below is a slider that adjusts the value of this radius. Set the value so that the outline of the object is without bald spots. Also in this dialog box, you can adjust the smoothing and feathering of the edges. This way you can achieve the perfect result.

When the result suits you, click the "OK" button. After that, you will return to the previous picture, when a dotted line runs across your object. Now we could copy it, move it, perform other actions ... But we need to remove the background in Photoshop cs5 (or later). To do this, you need to invert the selection. This is done very simply. Go to the "Select>Invert" path.

How to cut an object from the background in Photoshop?

But sometimes complete removal background is not required. Sometimes you need to cut out some object from the Photoshop background, and this program has recently been able to do this. For example, you can remove some garbage from the image. With some skill, you can even get rid of telegraph poles and wires. Let's take as an example a photograph where traces from previously flying planes look objectionable.

To delete an unnecessary object, you must first select it. However, it is not necessary to select it as accurately as possible. On the contrary, precision is not needed here. Just use the lasso tool and select the object along with a piece of space surrounding it. But you need to remember that the object must be small in size. IN otherwise the program will not be able to figure out exactly how to fill the empty area.

Once selected, press the Delete key. In the pop-up dialog box, pay attention to the "Use" item. Select "Content Aware" from the list provided. After that, click on the “OK” button. Then it remains only to go along the path "Select> Deselect" or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D.

This concludes our lesson. Today you have learned how to quickly cut out the background, as well as remove only part of it. Now it will not be difficult for you to improve existing photos by getting rid of all kinds of garbage.
