Price 3000! Win Phone 8! Bright screen, smart, no backlash, standard SIM card, normal camera for the price, button illumination to match the custom theme, there are no complaints about Wi-Fi and 3ji = both fly!

glitches of the system, for example, lies and bam reboots sometimes they don’t call me a weak call sometimes I don’t hear the vibro, I barely feel it on Vita was stronger, but all this can be forgiven for this device at a wonderful price a lot of paid in the store from what is in the playmarket for free

There are no minuses tel., rather, the OS, YES AND THEN, MAYBE NICKING AGAINST ANDROID! there is no antivirus, as the creators of the OS say - a closed system does not need it, there are few programs in the store, there is no front camera, there is no flash, image stabilization is not enough, you can only access Skype under a windyf account, there is no auto search for contacts when dialing (even Russian there are no symbols), there is no voice input - there is only voice control, half of the functions are not enabled without the mandatory permission to determine the location of the phone.

Sometimes the phone library from the memory card does not load and you have to stick it out and put it back in. So there is still not very bad, but still a problem when the display strongly reflects on the street.

connected with jambs of the OS, such as duplicating music, the lack of a normal browser, there is no equalizer on the player, the volume is one for everything, I didn’t get through once, I had to reboot. once again lost data transfer, also rebooted ... It turns out that the conductor on the computer can not just take something cut out of the phone's memory and insert it onto the memory card. To do this, you need to copy what you need from the phone’s memory to the computer, disconnect the micro SD card, and copy what you need to it through the computer, then delete the unnecessary more from the phone’s memory. have to reboot. In contacts, saving a long name will not work on the go. Found a way out, save a short one, and then click change and you can

Given the price (I bought it for 3290), you can simply turn a blind eye to the shortcomings, after all, a budget device for the lowest WP8 devices on the market. Judging strictly, we can note the absence of a front camera, flash, not too loud sound in the headphones.

The inconvenience of getting used to WP8

According to the IDC (Worldwide Smartphone Shipments) report for 2013, the global smartphone market crossed the threshold of more than 1 billion shipped devices worldwide. Compared to 2012, this figure has increased by almost 40%. The main share of shipments is still accounted for by the leaders of the mobile market, Samsung and Apple. Significant changes occurred in subsequent places, according to the same IDC report, such companies as LG and Lenovo (the latter, by the way, has a fairly strong position in Russia in the laptop and desktop solutions market), lost their places in the rating to Huawei. By the end of the year, Huawei managed to take third place with nearly 50 million smartphones shipped, indicating the growing interest in the company's mobile devices.

We also had an interest in smartphones from Huawei, we requested a sample of Huawei Ascend W2 to our test lab. One of the reasons why we are interested in this particular model is the use of Windows Phone 8 (WP8) as OS in this device. We mainly tested smartphones based on Android OS. The only WP8 mobile device we saw in our lab was the . Therefore, we decided to consider the Ascend W2 smartphone.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Ergonomics and design

Smartphone manufacturers have quite successfully taken the idea of tiles at the heart of the WP interface and transferred it to the look of their devices. Ascend W2, of course, is no exception, as evidenced by the shape and the presence of several colors on the back cover of the smartphone.

A variant of a smartphone with a yellow cover came to our laboratory. The color is so bright that it's sometimes hard to read the Huawei and Windows Phone logos imprinted on the cover.

It should be noted that the appearance of the smartphone evokes extremely positive emotions, the bright yellow color is pleasing to the eye, 160 grams of Ascend W2 plastic lie very well in the hand. Despite the heavy weight of the smartphone, it does not look bulky.

The design of Android OS smartphones, as a rule, involves the separation of the on / off and volume buttons on different sides of the device, the power button can also be located at the end of the smartphone. But Huawei Ascend W2 can be noted the joint location of the on / off button and volume control. After prolonged use of Android smartphones, slight discomfort may occur, fingers will look for buttons in their usual place. However, you get used to the new arrangement of buttons quickly enough. However, people with small hands may have difficulty accessing the power and volume buttons.

At the bottom of the smartphone are standard touch buttons for WP devices: return to the previous menu, go to the home screen, as well as a button to go to the Bing search engine.

To the existing hardware buttons, the Ascend W2 has added one more - turning on the camera. At the right time, with one press of this button, the camera is prepared for shooting in 1-2 seconds. But those who are used to holding a smartphone in their right hand will often press this button with the part of the palm located closer to the thumb.

When the smartphone is not in use and is in your pocket, you do not have to worry about the camera button being accidentally pressed, since it is not active in lock mode.

Elements such as the earpiece, multimedia speaker, as well as the microphone and camera are located in their usual places.

As for the case, in general, there are no complaints about it - plastic is like plastic. The case cover is surprisingly easy to remove. You don’t have to make any effort at all, and you don’t have to think about how not to break it. At the same time, it holds firmly and does not fall off. However, we did notice a slight play in this lid at the top of the case, but this may be a feature of this test unit.

The mini-SIM card is accessible only after the battery is removed, while the microSD card is accessible immediately after the cover is removed.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Contents of delivery

The smartphone came to our laboratory directly from the manufacturer, in a package more similar to the one in which the test samples are transported - a white cardboard box with various marking codes. Therefore, the original packaging and its contents can only be judged by seeing it in the store. But, judging by what is listed on the official website of the smartphone, the contents of the box we received differ only in the absence of several booklets. The delivery set in our case can be seen in the photo.

You will get a wired headset, USB charging with cable.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Screen

The smartphone uses an IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 4.3 "and a resolution of 480 × 800 pixels, there is also a high-sensitivity multi-touch touch screen that allows you to work with gloves. These characteristics, in our opinion, are quite enough for a mobile device of this class.

However, there are a couple of drawbacks that spoil even a budget smartphone. Firstly, the glass covering the display is not protected from scratches, so it is not recommended to carry the phone with foreign objects, be sure to use a case. Secondly, it is very difficult to clean the phone from fingerprints and smudges. It will not be possible to simply wipe them off with a cloth or, as many users of mobile devices sometimes do, by rubbing a smartphone on jeans, as they are simply smeared on the glass. Cleaning wipes or a leather cloth will help here.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Software

The software is standard, which comes with WP8: Office package, maps, Skydrive, etc. No additional software is installed on the smartphone.

It is worth noting that the phone has an FM receiver, but surprisingly, neither on the official website of Huawei, nor in many different reviews of this device, not a word is said about it. On the Internet, you can also find a description of the characteristics of a smartphone, in which there is a dash in the paragraph “FM receiver”. Interestingly, the smartphone does not have any programs preinstalled that allow you to listen to the radio. In the age of the ubiquity of the Internet and the ability to listen to on-line radio, the FM receiver probably looks like a kind of relic of the past. But, nevertheless, radio stations continue to broadcast in the open space and it is pleasant to listen to this broadcast in the background, and it is simply interesting to always be aware of the news.

To check for the presence of an FM receiver, we used a program from the Windows Phone store called Tunable FM Radio.

We also recorded a video with a mini test of the FM receiver. Before starting the test, we turned off all communications (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, data transfer) and put the phone in flight mode to be completely sure that it was the FM receiver that was working, and not Internet radio.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Settings

All settings, as well as software, are standard for WP8 devices. But I would like to point out two features. The first is to work with the phone with gloves, which will be relevant during the period of cold and frost. We conducted a mini-test of this function to check how sensitively the smartphone will respond to the touch of gloves, and for clarity we recorded a short video.

In order for the smartphone to perceive a touch when wearing gloves, you first need to enable this function in the settings

The second function, as it seems to us, has little practical application, but, nevertheless, it exists - this is a change in the color schemes of the interface (icons). Along with the interface, touch buttons also change their color (go back, go to the home screen, search button).

Huawei Ascend W2 | Camera

Selfie lovers will definitely not be happy with the lack of a front camera. With the help of Ascend W2 it will also be difficult to communicate in Skype. The camera is suitable only for simple photos and videos.

You can say this about the camera - it is there, it takes pictures at a resolution of 2560 × 1536 pixels, which corresponds to 5 MP, and shoots video at 720P. There is no flash. Everything is simple and concise. As we said above, the smartphone has a hardware button to launch the camera. The camera does not take pictures as quickly as we would like, the problem lies in the not so fast autofocus. The quality of pictures for a budget smartphone is generally good, but, nevertheless, they turn out to be slightly blurry and faded. Night shots come out slightly worse than those taken during the day, all because of the same autofocus.

In video, the presence of gurgling interference when listening to sound in the video is added to the same problems in color reproduction.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Video

We used video clips for Ascend W2 tests, among which there are popular formats, DVD format, Ultra 2k and 4k format.

Popular formats
Movie/roller Notes test result
Two barrels/2 Guns (MKV ) H.264/AVC video, 1447 kbps, 1000×416, 23.976 fps, AC-3 audio 6 channels, no subtitles Success
Top Fighter (DVD) MPEG2 video, 9000 kbps, 720×576, 25 fps, dolby digital AC3 audio 6 channels, subtitles Success (VOB files individually)
Godzilla/Godzilla/Trailer (MKV) H264/AVC video, ( [email protected]), 51.3 Mbps, 2048×858, 24 fps, PCM audio 6 channels Success (with noticeable slowdown)
Interstellar/Interstellar/Teaser/Widescreen 4k/Ultra HD (MKV ) H264/AVC video, ( [email protected]), 59.1 Mbps, 4096×1716, 24 fps, PCM audio 6 channels Refusal

All formats were tested on the standard player included with WP8

Huawei Ascend W2 | Performance

Overall Performance

First of all, we measured the overall performance of the device using Antutu Benchmark. In fact, the paucity of the choice of programs for testing in the WP store is very surprising. There is no 3D mark, Passmark and other programs for testing, even the same Antutu is presented here only as a beta version (Antutu benchmark v. 0.8.0 beta)

The performance of the Ascend W2 turned out to be slightly less than that of the . Although we are not comparing Lumia 1020 and Ascend W2, such a small difference is surprising, since the Nokia smartphone has better technical characteristics than Huawei W2, and the difference in price is quite noticeable (more than twice). It is possible that the same beta version of Antutu is to blame.

JavaScript Performance

SunSpider is a JavaScript test that demonstrates both the performance of the tablet's JavaScript engine and the processing power (to a lesser extent) of the hardware. Poor implementation of JavaScript on a very fast tablet can "blur" the overall performance of the platform. And at the same time, a great implementation of JavaScript will allow you to effectively use even slow systems. However, today the main implementations of JavaScript engines are getting closer to each other, developers are borrowing all the best ideas. JavaScript tests are single-threaded due to the nature of browsers. SunSpider correctly evaluates CPU-sensitive tasks found in real web applications.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Battery life

We tested the smartphone for battery life in various usage scenarios. We measured at maximum brightness and maximum volume. WiFi was on.

Also, as a test, we used a smartphone in the so-called everyday mode, which is close to the scenarios of the average user.

How we used the smartphone during the day:

  • The data transfer mode was on throughout the working day plus two hours on the subway (on the way to work and back)
  • Two hours of listening to music (on the subway on the way to work and back)
  • Two or three calls during the day. Talk time is 10-15 minutes.
  • Checking mail, visiting social networks, watching video clips using within an hour, within one working day.
  • At home, use Wi-Fi 4 hours.
  • One hour game (SoulCraft)
  • At night, the smartphone was set to offline mode.

Since one full charge was enough for two days, all of the above operations were repeated twice.

By the end of the second day of using the smartphone, the charge left for a little more than one hour of work.

The smartphone has a battery saving function. But during our testing, we did not use it. Perhaps it will extend the battery life for a few extra hours.

Huawei Ascend W2 | Conclusion

On the one hand, a smartphone with its modest characteristics can compete with its more expensive counterparts on the same platform, for example, with the same Nokia Lumia 1020. The phone has a powerful filling for its affordable price. Its performance is enough to solve all tasks, even games. On the other hand, the lack of a front-facing camera, low screen resolution, poor image quality can disappoint the user. But still, the main argument in favor of purchasing Huawei Ascend W2 is its price, for which this device can be forgiven for its shortcomings. If you're looking for an affordable smartphone for web surfing, simple gaming and social networking, the Huawei Ascend W2 is a great fit.

You can buy Huawei Ascend W2 at a price of 7.0 thousand rubles.

Review of the smartphone Huawei Ascend W2: if the state employee, then on Windows Phone

Smooth operation is achieved due to two factors: performance optimization for weak devices and, on the other hand, the minimum system requirements imposed by the owner of the license for the OS, that is, by Microsoft. That is, if you make a smartphone even under these minimum system requirements, it will not slow down, at least until you run some “heavy” application.

Smartphone Huawei Ascend W2 - a typical representative of the budget segment, but thanks to Windows Phone, it is faster than many competitors on Android with a similar price.

In a direct comparison between Huawei Ascend W2 and Nokia Lumia 625 (3G), it turns out that the phones are similar in many respects. Nokia has a slightly larger screen, but for some this is more of a disadvantage. The Huawei model is slightly thicker and longer, but narrower than its competitor. Of the other differences, only Huawei's lack of a front camera is significant, and of course, Nokia's proprietary applications. For those to whom the latter is critical.

As for competitors from the world of Android, the closest one is HTC Desire 501 Dual Sim. In addition to actually supporting two SIM cards, it boasts a front camera, FM radio and an NFC module. You can ignore the twofold difference in the amount of RAM - HTC's proprietary interface nullifies it.

Appearance

There is nothing special in the appearance of the smartphone - a typical "brick". For 7 thousand rubles - expected. The back cover is available in a variety of colors. In our case, lime color.

Below the screen are three touch buttons, Microsoft's requirement. Without them (at least touch, at least hardware) it is impossible to make a windophone.

The smartphone battery is removable. Only by removing it can you install a SIM card - it uses a mini-SIM, which is popularly called a "regular SIM card" (in fact, a regular SIM is the size of a credit card, but such SIM cards have not been used for 15 years).

The smartphone is comfortable to hold in the hand, it does not slip and does not create discomfort.

On the left side there is a power / lock button, a volume rocker and a micro-USB connector.

On the right is a lone camera button.

Above is a standard 3.5mm jack for connecting headphones or a headset.

Screen

Now the fashion has gone to put IPS-screens even in budget smartphones, and we categorically like it. Of course, not all IPS screens are the same, but in general they have better color reproduction and higher viewing angles than their TN counterparts. So in W2, the screen is quite good, you can only complain about the low resolution (the loss is small, in fact) and the lack of brightness. The latter is already a serious thing, the same Nokia Lumia on matrices similar in characteristics give a much brighter picture, which is well read even in bright sunlight. But they cost more, of course.

Software

Smartphones on Windows Phone 8 have another advantage: the unity of the interface. The manufacturer is free to install his applications as he wants, but according to the license agreement with Microsoft, he cannot change the interface.

Conciseness and simplicity are the main paradigms of the Windows Phone interface

Firstly, the user does not have to retrain if he has changed the brand or model of the smartphone (provided, of course, that he had previously used a Windows phone). What's more, Windows Phone's interface is similar to that of Windows 8 PC and Windows RT Tablet, making it easier to navigate all of these operating systems.

Secondly, all available memory belongs to the user. Remember, we said about HTC at the beginning of the text that a twofold difference in the amount of RAM means nothing. interface from HTC all these additional 512 MB will easily “gobble up”?

Thirdly, (and this is again a stone in the HTC garden), a cacophony of colors and a set of huge widgets are not a guarantee of a good interface. Yes, there can be complaints about the Windows Phone interface in terms of usability, but as far as aesthetics are concerned, everything here is undoubtedly done at a good level.

The application menu is the most controversial element of the Windows Phone interface

In general, we have written about the interface and the standard set of applications in Windows Phone more than once, in the same article we will mention what Microsoft promised us for a long time and finally did: children's mode.

The essence of this mode is that the smartphone user can set up a certain set of games and applications that will be available to his child (or any other user who does not know the unlock PIN code).

Everything is made as simple as possible. There is no need to reboot the phone or separately launch the "children's" mode. Just scroll to the left on the lock screen - and here it is, "Children's".

Exiting the child mode is just as simple: lock the screen with the button (or it locks itself after some time), and then unlock it as usual, slide from the bottom up and enter your password.

Another nice feature is the ability to customize the lock screen.

And for those who do not use the online address book, there is the ability to import / export contacts.

Well, otherwise, the Ascend W2 wine phone is a simple and, at the same time, functional smartphone on which you can read web pages, work with e-mail, communicate on social networks and even play games.

News feed from Twitter and Facebook

Well, listen to music, of course. Although users who are picky about sound quality will definitely not like the Ascend W2.

Music player

It seems that we almost forgot about the "standard" functions of the phone. We have no complaints about the quality of voice transmission and the convenience of typing.

Caller interface

The standard keyboard is the most comfortable of all mobile operating systems

Of course, the set of applications for Windows Phone is still small compared to competitors in the form of Android and iOS, and besides, there are a lot of apps of the same name in the Marketplace, which makes it difficult to find them (try, for example, to find YouTube there), but for the unpretentious user is enough. Moreover, Instagram has already been made for this OS.

Marketplace store

It is also worth remembering that you still won’t be able to play cool 3D games - the hardware is rather weak. But in all sorts of Angry Birds - please.

Camera

The quality of the camera in the Ascend W2 is perhaps rather weak, including for a state employee. According to this parameter, the phone is really inferior to competitors even in its price category (here it will be appropriate to recall the lack of a front camera).

Perhaps, the pictures below are not even worth commenting on (we admit, they were not taken in the best conditions, but so often in Moscow there is a bright sun and how often do you need to shoot something exactly at sunny noon?)

Gallery of pictures. Clicking on a thumbnail will open the full size image

Battery

Compared to competitors, the battery in Huawei Ascend W2 is not that powerful. Nevertheless, the smartphone will live without problems for a day and a half from the battery. Moreover, you still can’t play games with fancy graphics in it, and the camera (another battery eater) does not make you want to shoot often.

Outcome

The smartphone is not for a wide audience, but not for some ephemeral buyer. Many people make the mistake of buying a cheap Android smartphone - only those who have nothing to compare with can praise such a choice. Indeed, prices for more or less decent models on Android start at 11-12 thousand rubles (well, at least 9-10 thousand), but there’s nothing to say about iOS: even the obsolete iPhone 4 8 GB costs 14-15 thousand. Of course, we are talking about official prices.

In this sense, Windows Phone is more suitable for budget employees. Pretty much everything that launches and runs on a smartphone like the Ascend W2 runs briskly and smoothly. The main disadvantages of this model are: the lack of a front camera, the poor quality of the main camera and the low display brightness (although most comparable Android smartphones have a worse screen, even if its resolution is higher). If the shortcomings do not scare you, but you don’t want to pay more than 7 thousand, Huawei Ascend W2 is a good option.
