Smartphone Philips W8510 Xenium: review, specifications, reviews. Smartphone Philips W8510 Xenium: review, specifications, reviews Smartphones have one or more front cameras of various designs - a pop-up camera, a PTZ camera, a cutout or a hole in the display

At the time of release, Xenium was the flagship device. Thanks to a set of impressive features, it stood out well from the background of its closest competitors. Although a significant role in the Xenium phone probably played only a fairly capacious battery. This decision saved the company more than once, and potential buyers made their choice in favor of this device. On the example of the Philips W8510 Xenium smartphone, we can see that sometimes it is enough just to increase the capacity of the source of battery life so that people pay attention to it, forgetting about competitive devices. It is interesting that the companies that have released similar devices have relied on the appearance and dimensions. Therefore, it was Philips W8510 Xenium that took the lead. After all, it is much more practical to have a smartphone that will work longer, and not just please with its forms.

Brief specifications

(the price in the official store is about 8500 Russian rubles) is equipped with an operating system of the Android family. More specifically, this is version 4.2, which users call “Jeli bin”. The screen diagonal is 4.7 inches. Thanks to this solution, the Philips Xenium W8510, whose price ranges from 8 to 9 thousand rubles, turned out not to be bulky, but not ultra-compact either. The very middle ground that many users are looking for.

If we talk about the quality of displaying the picture, then it is displayed on the screen in HD mode. It's 720 by 1280 pixels. The smartphone has an eight-megapixel main camera.

The processor operates at a clock frequency of 1200 megahertz. The chipset, by the way, has four cores. The amount of built-in flash memory is only four gigabytes. RAM - 1024 MB. In general, as we can see, the characteristics are quite average, but they are enough to maintain stable performance and use the device in multitasking mode with virtually no freezes and lags.

Of the additional parameters, it should be noted support for two SIM cards. They should not be processed according to micro or nano standards. The highlight of the Philips Xenium W8510 phone, the characteristics of which we are currently describing, was the battery, whose capacity is 3300 milliamps per hour. According to the manufacturer, this option provides eighteen hours of continuous conversations in cellular networks of the third generation.

Contents of delivery

The standard package includes a Philips Xenium W8510 phone, a charger for it, a cable for synchronization with a personal computer, a laptop or an OTG standard adapter (MicroUSB to USB 2.0 wire), a wired stereo headset, and a film to protect the display. The manufacturer's concern for the safety of the screen of the manufactured devices is simply touching, of course. The cover for Philips Xenium W8510 is not included in the factory package, you will have to buy it in the store for a fee. However, you will be within the amount of less than a thousand, since this accessory for the device is not so expensive.

Appearance

The Philips Xenium W8510, with a 4.7-inch screen, has a classic look. The smartphone is made in a rectangular shape. Both its upper face and the lower one have small bulges, barely perceptible to the eye. The designers did not dare to bevel the sides, but there is still a slight slope closer to the back panel from above and below. Finding fault with the overall ergonomics of the device is unlikely to succeed. Everything is done poorly and without frills, but according to the mind and according to unwritten rules. By the way, this approach of the company is typical for many devices. The quality standard exists, and designers and engineers stubbornly continue to follow it. which you will find at the end of the review, can be described as a smartphone made in accordance with strict standards, but at the same time with a certain taste.

Screen protection

Philips Xenium W8510, whose battery, as already mentioned, is rated at 3300 milliamps per hour, is additionally protected by a glass layer. Rather, the protection was developed exclusively for the display of this device, and not for its entire surface. Interestingly, the manufacturer has not commented on this. That glass is, it is known. But what it is - ordinary or created according to the standard is still unknown. Nevertheless, tests have shown that even with active use, scratches appear rarely and very slowly.

When you first unpack, you can immediately notice the sensor grid. However, its detection is possible only when the light falls at a certain angle. Nevertheless, we cannot fix this, which means that we just have to put up with such a miniature flaw.

Perimeter

An insert made of metal materials passes through it. An interesting solution was applied by the developers of the device: this frame immediately captures the counter of the conversational speaker at the top of the smartphone. We can see a similar approach in the design, for example, of such a phone as the iPhone 5. The insert on the front side somehow rises above the case. Why is this done? A similar move is used by many designers in order to protect the screen of the device from physical influences from outside. Imagine that you put the device face down on a horizontal surface. If there is no elevation at the frame, then the smartphone will lie directly on the screen on it. Accordingly, scuffs and even scratches may occur. On the side, you can see that the frame is sanded. This solution makes the appearance of the device stylish, while emphasizing the elegance of the body as a whole.

back

The back side can be conditionally divided into two parts at once. The first of them is a removable type, while the second (lower) is not. The manufacturer made the lid from a fairly durable (which must be mentioned) semi-gloss plastic. If we talk about color, then this is a dark blue shade. Fingerprints are clearly visible on the lid. However, if you handle and monitor your phone regularly, then nothing bad will happen, since prints will rub off from a semi-gloss surface as easy as shelling pears. Again, all the same tests showed that the cover has a load margin. It is difficult to mechanical stress, and it will not be very easy to leave scratches on it. These two parameters together can be called a significant advantage, which goes to the “Xenium” piggy bank.

Build quality

Here everything is already a little worse. If desired, you can identify a real set of minor flaws. Nevertheless, this is no longer our task, but the work of experts, and we will simply tell you what you can, if not be afraid of, then at least expect. It is quite possible that you will be lucky and you will receive a sample of increased quality, since engineers and designers nevertheless took certain steps after the release of the first batch. And yet we will not hope for luck. If you shake your smartphone, then most likely you will feel a slight backlash. Probably, it is the battery of the device that is shaking inside the device. The smartphone does not cover it tightly enough. This means that after a significant period of use, you will have to contact a service center to replace the battery. Or buy another device. Pleased with the fact that the compression does not hear the crunch.

Dimensions and dimensions

As mentioned earlier, when designing this device, experts relied on a compromise. And this decision was made and implemented more successfully than ever. In height, the device reaches 138, in width - 69, and in thickness 10.4 millimeters. Such indicators make it possible to feel all the benefits of handling a smartphone. In the hand, it lies surprisingly neat and comfortable. If you try to translate this into disadvantages, then it can be noted that the increase in battery volume had an impact on the thickness and weight of the devices.

Location of elements. front panel

From the front side, you can find a speech speaker, which is located at the very top. For additional protection, the planners and designers decided to cover it with a mesh made of metallic materials and masked with dark paint. Well, since we are talking about the dynamics, we note a good margin of volume. Almost all medium and low frequencies are perfectly listened to, and it will not be difficult to make out the speech of the interlocutor even in a noisy environment from both ends of the wire at once. Of the shortcomings - sharp edges. Sometimes holding the device right close to your ear is not particularly pleasant, and even a little painful. If you talk a lot on the phone, then we advise you to pay some attention to this moment. Such a shortcoming can deliver a whole mountain of inconvenience.

To the right of the conversational speaker, you can find a light level sensor. On the opposite side is the proximity sensor. There is also a front camera eye. We go below, under the frame of the screen. Here are the touch controls that are typical for devices running on the basis of the Android operating system. There is a white backlight, which can not but please.

Left and right sides

On the left side, the user can find a switch that was added specifically to select between normal and power saving modes. On the opposite side there are buttons designed to change the overall volume level. They are made from metallic materials. To distinguish between these elements is quite simple, you can also feel for it without much difficulty. They are pressed at a standard level of load, so there should not be any problems with handling either.

Top and bottom ends

On the latter is a conversational microphone. Of the elements, that's all. But on the upper end we have a whole set of tools, if you can call them that. We are talking about the input of the MicroUSB standard, the audio output of 3.5 millimeters, as well as the power control button. By the way, on the reverse side of the phone you can see a camera, the module of which is literally recessed into the plane of the cover. There is also an LED flash with a high-volume sound speaker.

under cover

If we remove the back panel, we can find the slots. They are designed to integrate an external MicroSD standard drive, as well as embed two SIM cards.

Reviews. Advantages and disadvantages

What can users who have purchased this smartphone model tell us? As pluses, they usually highlight a fairly high-quality screen matrix, for example. This is usually referred to as its resolution. Good performance during the tests was demonstrated by the processor, which copes well with multitasking. Reviews note good, you can even say high-quality materials from which the device case is made. Of course, the highlight of the device was a capacious battery, which makes it possible to spend more time on the Internet, for example. The speaker has a good volume margin, and the interlocutor's speech is legible. Well, it is impossible not to mention the presence of two slots for SIM cards.

Of the shortcomings, reviews highlight the grid on the display. In later models, this minus may be absent due to the timely intervention of engineers. This also includes the backlash inside the device. This is a problem with the same battery, which could not be firmly fixed. Well, the dimensions complete the composition. This is rather a relative disadvantage, because not everyone may see it as an obvious disadvantage. In general, the device turned out to be quite neat, tasteful. Nothing special "stuffing" can not boast, but above average performance still provides.

The modern technology market is full of various gadgets. On it you can find a smartphone for every taste. Each phone has its own set of features. Today we have to find out how good the Philips W8510 Xenium is. What kind of phone is this? What characteristics does it have? What stands out from a number of similar smartphones? How much do the owners like/dislike it? All this will be discussed later. A complete review of the phone "Philips B8510" is presented to our attention!

Short description

To begin with, it is worth understanding what the Philips W8510 Xenium smartphone is in general. What is this device?

This phone is the flagship among modern mobile devices of the middle price category. One of the representatives of smartphones with a good display and battery. It is suitable for leisure, and for study, and for work.

The phone is more suitable for people who are used to large devices. "Philips B8510" is not diminutive, but this fact does not become a problem.

In general, the studied gadget is a very powerful and inexpensive phone with a number of positive aspects. They will be discussed further. What are the characteristics of this gadget? What are its features to pay attention to in the first place?

Specifications

In fact, there are a lot of them. But it is the parameters of the phone that attract new buyers. It is noted that Philips Xenium W8510 features are not too original. All that really distinguishes the device from a number of similar ones is a good battery. And no more.

To date, "Philips B8510" has the following parameters:

  • plastic case;
  • support for working with two SIM-cards (alternately);
  • weight - 173 grams;
  • touch screen;
  • support for multi-touch technology;
  • screen diagonal 4.7 inches;
  • support for automatic screen rotation;
  • the presence of rear and front cameras;
  • support for mp3, FM radio and MPEG4;
  • processor for 4 cores with a frequency of 1.2 GHz;
  • RAM 1 GB;
  • available space on the phone 1.8 GB;
  • support for connecting a memory card;
  • Wi-Fi, GPS, GPRS;
  • Bluetooth 4.0;
  • support for USB and 3G;
  • estimated battery life - 950 hours, during a call - 18 hours;
  • the ability to control voice;
  • light and proximity sensors;
  • the presence of a flashlight / flash;
  • battery capacity - 3300 mAh.

According to these characteristics, we can say that the device under study really does not stand out among most similar phones. But is it really so? What do Philips W8510 Xenium owners say about their smartphone?

Equipment

For example, the delivery set of the device plays a huge role. It is not much different from those offered with similar phones. Nevertheless, every owner of the device should know about the configuration.

In the box with the Philips B 8510 phone you can find:

  • the smartphone itself;
  • Charger;
  • headset (wired);
  • protective screen film;
  • cable for connecting to a computer (micoUSB).

You may notice that there is no battery with the mobile device. This is a normal phenomenon that every Philips owner should be aware of. The thing is that the Philips W8510 battery is built right into the phone. That is why it is not in the box with the device.

Design and dimensions

Now a little about what the smartphone under study is. What features does it have? Let's start with the appearance of the gadget. Philips W8510 Xenium is a phone that has rather big dimensions. It is very bulky. The smartphone has the following dimensions - 69.7 by 138.5 by 10.4 mm. It can be noted that this device not only looks bulky, but is also suitable mainly for people who are used to working with large phones.

The design of the device is nothing special. "Philips B 8510" looks like a standard modern smartphone: a rectangular body, slightly convex top and bottom edges, rounded corners. There is a slight slope towards the rear panel of the device. The ergonomics of the phone are excellent. All components fit snugly together.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that Philips W8510 Xenium is perfect for lovers of classics and minimalism. It is this emphasis that is placed in the design of the gadget. The good news is that the screen of the phone has Gorilla Glass protection. Therefore, we can talk about the resistance of the display to scratches and damage.

However, the device has some flaws in the assembly. It is enough to shake the smartphone several times. The owner will hear something play inside him. Most likely it's the battery. The developers did not fix it too much. Otherwise, there are no complaints - the phone does not creak, does not crunch, does not fall apart.

Despite its large size and weight of 173 grams, Philips W8510 Xenium fits perfectly in the hand. Using a smartphone is really convenient. Some owners say that the device could be made more compact. But this feature is not emphasized as a disadvantage.

About controls

Now a little about the controls. On the front panel (top) is the speaker of the phone. It is covered with a small mesh. This control works perfectly: it has excellent volume, the interlocutor is heard clearly and legibly. However, holding the phone near your ear is not always convenient - all this is due to the sharp edges of the metal frame of the speaker. They can scratch. This shortcoming must be taken into account.

To the right of the speaker is a light sensor, to the left - a proximity sensor and a front camera. On the bottom panel of the device, under the screen, there are three buttons - "Home", "Back" and "Menu". They are illuminated with white light, fully touch. On the left side panel of the Philips W8510 Xenium there is a special button for switching to the "Energy Saving" mode, and on the right there are two sound volume controls. The headset output, the Power button and the Micro-USB connector are on the top end, and the microphone is on the bottom. On the back of the device is a flash (flashlight), camera and speakerphone.

For Philips Xenium W8510, the instruction indicates that only the upper part of the back panel is removed from the phone. Under it there are 2 separate slots for SIM cards and a place to connect additional memory (microSD).

Display

It is worth noting that the display of the studied mobile phone is really worthy of attention. The thing is that the image quality is excellent. We can say the best among mid-range smartphones.

The Philips Xenium W8510 display has a diagonal of 4.7 inches. At the same time, the device has an excellent resolution - 720 by 1280 pixels and a dot density - 312 dpi. The screen matrix is made using IPS-LSD technology, there is no air gap between it and the screen.

In general, the image on the display is clear, bright, saturated. The viewing angle does not distort the picture, in daylight everything is perfectly visible. True, in the sun the image fades a little. The only feature that needs to be taken into account is the average range of brightness adjustment.

About memory

An important point is the memory of a mobile phone. It is of interest to many buyers. As already mentioned, the Philips Xenium W8510 has different memory - operational and built-in. The first provides only 1 GB. This, according to numerous customer reviews, is very little for the comfortable operation of the gadget. Some applications on the phone are slow. Powerful games cannot be launched on the Philips W8510 in any way. You can also forget about the novelties of the gaming industry. You can play outdated toys without any problems. Free RAM when you start working with the gadget provides only about 500 MB. This is a normal situation for modern smartphones.

The built-in memory of the device is also not very much. 1.7 GB is allocated for data storage, about 1 GB for application storage. The rest of the 4 GB provided initially is occupied by the Android 4.2 operating system. If desired, you can increase the space on your phone with an additional microSD memory card, up to 32 GB maximum.

Camera

Philips Xenium W8510 receives various reviews. Some of them are good and not so good. The owners of the device say that the gadget's camera leaves much to be desired. This applies to both components - both the rear and the front.

A regular camera shoots with a quality of 8 megapixels. In general, good pictures are obtained, but nothing more. Some complain about the shift of white shades towards red. The dynamic range is small, which affects the quality of photos. But videos can be shot in FullHD format. They turn out good - a bright and rich picture, maximum detail, clear sound. One disadvantage of video recording on the phone is a significant increase in the image.

The front camera is not suitable for taking great pictures. It shoots with a quality of 1.3 megapixels. But for selfies or video calls, the front camera is ideal.

Communications

Philips W8510 Xenium has good communication capabilities. However, like most modern smartphones. This phone was released in 2013, but this does not mean that it uses outdated communication tools.

As already mentioned, the device supports wireless communication using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It also works with 2G and 3G. But the gadget does not catch the 4G network. In addition, the phone can work as a modem. For this, the system has a special mode.

Pleased with the presence of GPS-navigation. However, she no longer surprises anyone. Nevertheless, many owners often emphasize this feature among the positive aspects of the device. But that's not all!

Performance

Philips Xenium W8510 receives positive reviews for its performance. The phone uses a good processor chipset - MediaTek MT6589. As already mentioned, it is designed for 4 cores. The frequency of each is 1.2 GHz.

The performance of the device is briefly spoken about: the phone is productive, it consumes a small amount of energy. However, the speed of the device sometimes leaves much to be desired. The gadget does not have a lot of RAM. Therefore, there may be problems with some software.

Operating system

There is not much to say about the operating system of the gadget. The device is based on Android. Already this fact pleases its owners. The software version installed on the phone is 4.2. Not the latest "Android" build, but it works well.

Philips W8510 Xenium supports automatic download of updates. It is better not to neglect them. This software fixes minor bugs and flaws in Android 4.2.

About media

The studied device, like all modern phones, supports working with media formats. To listen to music, the smartphone has a special player. Standard application for all "Android" fourth versions. The equalizer in this program is also not distinguished by anything. You can boost bass and adjust 3D sound.

The sound quality in the headphones, according to reviews, is excellent. The volume is also pleasing. The sound does not make noise, does not buzz, does not break. The call speaker does not overlap, which ensures good audibility under any circumstances.

FM radio is also good. It works with frequencies in the range of 87.5-107.8 FM. The application supports broadcast recording. Documents are saved in 3gpp format.

There is also a video player. Philips W8510 it works with any resolutions, accepts mp4, 3GP, AVI. But not all audio codecs are recognized.

Price

The unsurpassed plus of Philips Xenium W8510 is the price. As already mentioned, this device is in the middle price category. It costs about 7-9 thousand rubles. It cannot be said that it is very expensive. But the device is not cheap either.

It is noted that the price tag for this device does not upset buyers. Philips Xenium W8510, the price of which is about 9,000 rubles, is really worth the money.

    1. Few glitches compared to other smartphones. Other smartphones sometimes unexpectedly reboot during a conversation, sometimes there are extraneous noises, sometimes you can’t hear the interlocutor .. there are no serious jambs in this phone 2. The battery holds well, it lasts for 2 days with active use. 3. Fast running speed 4. Excellent workmanship

    Everything that I wanted from a phone (well, almost everything) is in it. Communication, dual-simity, speed, screen, battery - excellent! The camera is good for its 8 megapixels. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality on the bundled headset! Never glitched.

    1. At least some kind of design looks more expensive than what was paid for it. 2. Screen. Good filling for half the price of current flagships. 3. Ability to expand memory. 4. For me, this is also the weight of the device, there is no panic that at the most inopportune moment the phone will slip out of my hands.

    1. A very good ratio of price and quality - perhaps only a few models today can compare with it. 2. Long-playing battery - it's funny to read how on the forums of other gadgets people "optimize" the work of the smart, turning off everything in the world, chopping processes and extinguishing applications. Here 4 days of ownership - from 100% charge by the evening of 4 days sat down to 20%. 3. Ability to expand memory up to 32 gigs and 2 sims. 4. ips screen - normal hd resolution and graininess is not visible at all. 5. Andryusha version 4.2.2.

    - The camera is still here for the view :)
    - Something is not quite finished in terms of filling in terms of shielding or something else like that: there are places in which it starts to sausage wildly, randomly reboot, etc. Moreover, I already know 2 such places, and it is always guaranteed that when passing there, he starts acting weird. I suspect high-voltage cables are buried there, EMP from them and unbalances him. Vooot.

    The sound in the speaker is a little weak at full volume, on a noisy street you have to press the phone harder to your ear. But in principle it is not so critical. The button for turning on the energy-saving mode is dangling.

    1. As you know, android has 3 types of memory:
    1) Section / data Internal memory for applications. The section where applications are installed, the user cannot access this section by regular means (Root rights are required for access). This is where the installed applications are located.
    2) Partition /mnt/sdcard Internal memory available to the user.
    3) External SD card.
    So I installed a small number of applications, but when installing a new application, a message began to appear that there was not enough memory. Despite the fact that I transferred almost all applications to an external card, about 700 MB were free on the internal one, I still gave such an error. I had to root the phone, increase exactly "Section / data Internal memory for applications", i.e. spend time on this

    Not quite the usual size, there are no physical call buttons - hang up. But can this be considered a disadvantage? :) Even when charging, the upper part heats up a little, which is psychologically a little unpleasant. With an incoming call, it is not clear which way to move the "button", but quickly got used to it. There is no film on it in stores, and the complete one quickly scratches, although this does not interfere with work at all.

Introduction

At the time of writing the review, the Philips W8510 smartphone is a flagship device and stands out among similar solutions, perhaps, only with a capacious battery. However, this is sometimes enough for the attention of potential buyers to be focused precisely on such a product, since the “classmates” for the most part flaunt graceful “waistlines”, and they “score” on autonomous work. As a result, we get a “slender” apparatus, which hardly survives until the middle of the day.

The new model from Philips has a rather "curvy" shape, but boasts an excellent battery life. In addition, the W8510 uses the powerful MediaTek MT6589 chipset and a cool HD IPS display. Together, a very interesting gadget came out for those who are not chasing a miniaturized phone.

Design, dimensions, controls

Smartphone Philips W8510 has a classic appearance of a touch phone: a rectangular shape of the case, and the top and bottom edges are slightly convex. The sides are not beveled, the top and bottom of the case has a slight slope towards the rear panel. In general, there is nothing to complain about in the ergonomics of the design - everything is done according to the mind, the Philips are great in this regard, they do not deviate from the accepted quality standard - strictly, but with taste.

The screen of the device is protected by glass. The site does not say which one, ordinary or still Gorilla Glass. In any case, I note that for a month of use, not a single scratch remained on the display. However, on the surface (I took it out of the box) a rather wide grid is noticeable: as if a hot deep fryer was put on the display and then it was not wiped for a long time. Unfortunately, these traces are not removed even with the help of special cleaning products for equipment. The touch grid of the wheelbarrow looks different - it is thinner and noticeable only from a certain angle.

Along the perimeter of the case, capturing the contour of the earpiece hole, there is a metal insert (similar to the iPhone 5). On the front side, it rises slightly above the body, protecting the screen from external influences. The sides have a smooth finish. In my opinion, it looks stylish and emphasizes the elegant outlines of the case.

The back side consists of two parts: the upper one is removable, the lower one is not. The cover is made of durable semi-gloss plastic in dark blue. Fingerprints remain on it, they are noticeable, but erased easily. For a long time of testing, the panel was not scratched, which can be considered a definite plus.

There are minor flaws with the assembly, or maybe I just got a not the highest quality sample. The fact is that when shaking the smartphone, it feels like something is loose inside, judging by the massiveness - the battery. Probably, the developers did not solder it tightly, since in the future it will be difficult to make a service replacement. Otherwise, everything is fine: the device does not creak, does not crunch when compressed.

The Philips W8510 lies well in the hand, despite its impressive dimensions - 138x69x10.4 mm and a weight of 173 grams. In general, it is not entirely clear how, for example, in the LG G2 (with a 5-inch screen diagonal) they were able to fit a 3000 mAh battery with a body size of 138x70x8.9 mm and a weight of 143 grams, while Philips has a battery about the same, but the body is thicker by more than 2 mm, the weight has increased by 30 grams. The Lenovo P780 (143x73x9.9 mm, 176 g) has a 4000 mAh battery. This I mean that the W8510 model could be made a little lighter and more compact.

On the front panel of the device, there is a speech speaker on top, it is covered with a thin dark metal mesh. The loudspeaker volume is high, pleasant low and medium frequencies are mainly heard, the interlocutor is heard legibly and clearly. However, holding the device near the ear is not very pleasant, as sharp edges sometimes scratch the ear. Pay attention to this moment when you choose your phone. It is possible that the metal frame will not cause you discomfort.

To the right of the speaker is an ambient light sensor, to the left is a proximity sensor and a front camera. Under the screen - touch "Back", "Home" and "Menu". Illuminated with white light. On the left side is a special switch to power-saving mode and back to normal. On the right are two separate metal volume buttons. Easy to feel, easy to handle. The microphone is located on the bottom, 3.5 mm audio jack, micro-USB and a thin power button are on the top. Behind - a camera recessed into the case, a single-section flash and a speakerphone (there is a small tubercle on the case so that the speaker is not covered when the device is placed on a horizontal surface).

As mentioned at the beginning of the review, in this model, only the upper part of the back cover is removed. Below it are two slots for conventional miniSIM-cards and a slot for a microSD memory card.

Display

The Philips Xenium W8510 smartphone uses a 4.7-inch display (physical size 58x103 mm). Resolution - 720x1280 pixels, while the density - 312 pixels per inch. The matrix is made using IPS-LCD technology, there is apparently no air gap between the matrix and the protective glass. The picture quality is one of the best among all devices costing up to 15,000 rubles. The image is clear, the colors are saturated, the viewing angles are maximum, and in case of deviations, the matrix does not turn purple or turn yellow! The brightness is high, but the display fades in the sun, during the day everything is fine, indoors the brightness can be made weaker. The brightness control range is average.

Battery

The Philips W8510 uses a 3300 mAh non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. The manufacturer indicates that the device should operate in talk mode for about 18 hours, in standby mode - about 860 hours.

If you use the phone for about 25-30 hours, the battery will be completely discharged on the condition of: 20-25 minutes of calls per day, 8 hours of using Wi-Fi Internet (Twitter, mail, downloading applications and installing them), about 7 hours of mobile Internet and couple hours of listening to music.

You can only listen to music for 65 hours, watch only video (maximum screen brightness, high volume, movie resolution - HD 720p) - a little less than 10 hours. If you want to play with toys (such as Asphalt 8), then you don't have to save energy either - the battery will run out after only 4 hours!

From USB the battery is charged within 7 hours, from the mains adapter for 3 - 3.5 hours.

Communication options

The phone works in cellular networks 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz). In the "SIM card management" section of the settings, the name of the "sim cards", their color, and data transfer are set.

Available Bluetooth version 4.0 (A2DP, FTP, HFP) for file and voice transfer. There is wireless Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n. The device, of course, can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot) or modem.

USB 2.0 (High-Speed) is used for file transfer and data synchronization.

There were no connection problems, Wi-Fi sensitivity is high: for example, at a distance of 5 meters (behind the wall) from the W8510 router, it confidently showed 1-2 risks out of 4. During testing, there were no disconnections or glitches with the network falling off.

Memory and memory card

This model has 1 GB of RAM. About 500 MB are free from this volume. Typical indicator. Built-in 4 GB Flash-memory: 1.7 GB for data storage, just under 1 GB for installing applications. In the settings, you can switch the location for saving information to either internal memory or a microSD memory card (up to a maximum of 32 GB).

Camera

The device was equipped with two camera modules: the main one with 8 MP, the front one with 1.3 MP. There is a single section LED flash. The maximum photo resolution is 3264x2448 pixels, video - 1920x1080 pixels at 30 frames per second. The aperture of the main camera is F2.4, the focal length is 35 mm, the front camera is F2.8.

This model uses the familiar camera module, which we saw in almost all modern smartphones in early and mid-2013. The photo quality is good, but nothing more. Most of the nit-picking relates to a small dynamic range and shifting the white balance to red hues.

Videos are recorded in FullHD resolution, the quality is very good: high detail, no blurring and motion artifacts, the sound is clear (mono). The only annoying thing is that the image is greatly enlarged, as if it was “zoomed in” 5 times.

EXIF information from a photo file

Video file characteristic:

  • File Format: 3gp
  • Video codec: MPEG-4, 23 Mbps
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps
  • Channels: 1 channel, 48 kHz

Performance

The Philips Xenium W8510 uses the MediaTek MT6589 chipset - 4 cores, the frequency of each is 1.2 GHz. I won’t describe in detail, because now almost every second smartphone under 15,000 rubles is equipped with this particular chip - it is productive, consumes little energy.

Benchmarks (Quadrant, Antutu, Anomaly 2 Benchmark:

Software platform

The operating system is Google Android version 4.2.2. During testing, a 60 MB update arrived (Philips_W8510_1336_V09_RU). The description says that it eliminates some minor flaws.

Multimedia

Music player. A standard music player familiar to everyone from bare Android 4.xx. Equalizer presets: normal, classic, dance, flat, folk, heavy metal and so on. Adjustable "own" five-band equalizer from 60 Hz to 14 kHz. There are two sliders: bass boost and 3D effect.

The sound quality in the headphones is excellent (just to add “bottoms” would be great), and the volume is very high – it “shakes” almost all the headphones I have on the test.

The loudspeaker volume is average. If the Xenium W8510 is placed upside down, the speaker does not close, so the volume does not drop. If you close it with your finger, the volume will decrease by 90%, i.e. almost nothing will be heard.

FM radio. The receiver operates at frequencies of 87.5 - 107.8 MHz. RDS is supported, the broadcast is recorded in 3gpp format.

Video player. There is a separate player. Understands MP4, 3GP and AVI, but not all audio codecs. Permission "eats" any.

Conclusion

The quality of communication did not raise any complaints: the signal level is not bad even in difficult reception conditions. The vibrating alert has an average power (probably due to the large size of the device) and is noticeable only in the inside pockets.

If you are looking for a reliable smartphone without unnecessary “frills” (ultra-thin body, interchangeable color panels, light weight, etc.), which has high performance, a very high-quality screen, and a capacious battery, then I advise you to pay attention to the Philips Xenium W8510! The device really makes a positive impression due to the use of high-quality materials (durable plastic, metal and glass). I think it will be of interest to people aged 40+, because, as it seems to me, at this age you already pay less attention to embellishments, and appreciate quality and style more.

  • High-quality screen matrix
  • High resolution screen matrix
  • Powerful processor
  • High quality case materials
  • Capacious battery
  • Loud and pleasant ear speaker
  • Loud sound in headphones
  • Dual SIM

Cons Philips W8510:

  • Grid on the display (it is possible that such a sample)
  • Backlash inside the device (it is possible that such a sample)
  • Weight and dimensions
