Kmplayer does not play sound. No sound in KMPlayer

There is no sound in KMPlayer during playback mkv files, avi, mp4 and other formats most often due to problems with codecs and incorrect settings player and sound Windows devices... If you are unsure of what to do and how to restore sound, try the solutions below.

Method 1

The easiest way is to update your codecs. Install the K-Lite Codec Pack and restart your computer - in most cases it helps.

If the sound disappeared in KMPlayer after the update, it makes sense to roll it back by installing an older version of the player. Just remember to completely remove the player from your computer before doing this.

Method 2

Check if the volume settings of the player are out of order in the operating system... This is rare, but it does happen. Click right click mouse on the speaker icon on the panel in the lower right corner and select "".

* The screenshot was taken on Windows 10, but on Windows 7 and 8 (x32 / x64) this setting is changed in the same place.

If in the opened mixer the adjustment slider under the KMP icon is at a minimum, this is the reason why the sound does not work in KMPlayer.

Raise it up by setting the volume level on par with the rest of the programs.

Method 3

It happens that KMPlayer does not play sound, due to the fact that the wrong playback device is selected in it. To check this and change the setting, open the menu (for this, right-click on the window where the movie is displayed in the kmp player) and go to " Audio» - « Sound processor».

There may be several. Let's take a look at the most likely ones:

  1. First of all, you need to check if the sound is muted in the player itself (the volume can be accidentally reduced to zero) or in the Windows system.
  2. If the previous step did not help, right-click on active window player. In the emerging context menu follow the path: "Audio" → "Sound processor" and try to select a different device. This item is especially relevant when using a non-standard audio output device - external speakers, bluetooth headset, etc.
  3. Lack of drivers for sound card although the least likely reason for the lack of sound in KMPlayer, it also cannot be written off. It is easy to identify the problem - if, when turned on, Windows Sound no, and the first item from this list has already been checked, then you should go to the official website of the audio card manufacturer and download the current drivers for subsequent installation.

If the sound in KMPlayer is wheezing or hissing

Recently, sometimes we come across problems with KMPlayer of a similar kind, especially after updating to new versions of the player. To eliminate, first of all, try to "reset" the settings to the default option (F2, then click the Reset all settings button), having previously not forgotten to do "Export settings" using the corresponding button next to it, all of a sudden, you will need to return the changes back.

If the settings are dear to you and do not want to change them so drastically, try in the Audio menu (RMB on the player → "Audio") to reduce the gain using Decrease gain.
