The next step is to turn off auto contrast correction in ScanPapyrus, because this feature is useful when scanning documents, but colors will be distorted when scanning photographs. In this mode, you do not have to constantly press the button Scan, because photo scanning will start automatically at the specified time interval. Select the scan interval, usually 10 seconds is enough to replace the photo in the scanner. Remember to put the first photo in the scanner, close the scanner lid and press the Next >.

The scanning of the photo will start and after the end, the countdown of the time for which you need to change the photo in the scanner will begin. After the countdown, a new round of scanning will begin. If you changed a photo very quickly and the timer is still counting down, then just press the Enter key to skip the countdown and start scanning the next photo.

After the last photo has been scanned, press the Complete.

Since we scanned 10 x 15 cm photos, and the scan area was 10.5 cm wide, all photos have an extra half a centimeter wide area. Let's cut it off. To do this, click the button crop on the taskbar.

Use the blue dotted rectangle to select an area of the photo, leaving the excess outside the rectangle. Check the box Apply to all pages and press the button To accept. As a result, the excess area will be cropped on all photos.

Also, some photos may need to be rotated left/right or flipped upside down. Mark those photos that you want to rotate using the checkmark in the upper left corner and click the rotate button. All marked photos will be rotated.

If you did something wrong, you can always undo the changes made using the button Restore. This operation can be applied to all photos at once by selecting them using the keys Ctrl+A.

In the window that appears, select a folder to save. Select a JPEG image format and a quality of at least 90. Specify a filename pattern, such as my_old_photos and press the button Save.

Install drivers. They may be on the disc that came with the scanner. Sometimes they need to be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Install the required software. Most likely, you already have some programs. If you tried to process images, then you probably did it through one of the versions of Adobe Photoshop. Abbyy Fine Reader is more versatile - it allows you to scan both images and texts. XnView is designed mainly for viewing pictures, but there is also a scanning function. To find out about the availability of such a function, go to the "File" menu. Look in the drop-down box for the line "scan".

Run the desired program. In many cases, a window prompting you to open a particular program appears immediately after you open the lid. As a rule, such "numbers" are done by Abbyy Fine Reader. If this offer is not followed, go to the "file" menu and select the scan function.

Open the scanner lid and put a photo or several in there. You need to place them with the image to the glass. At the same time, a window should appear on the screen, offering to make a preview or immediately scan. Select the first one and click the corresponding button. The scanner will start and soon an image will appear on the small window screen.

Think about whether you will be scanning all the photos at once and cutting them up later, or if you are more comfortable digitizing them one at a time. Select one or more depending on this. This is done with the mouse in the same way as in any other program. The selection area is limited by a dotted line. The rectangle can be reduced or enlarged.

There are several other small windows in the scanner window. Different manufacturers have different ones, but there is always a choice - color or black and white image, resolution, size and style. To scan color photos, select color scan. In this window, different options can be indicated, they will have to be selected empirically. If the photo is black and white, it is preferable to choose "shades of gray" - then the photo will turn out with all the halftones.

Choose a resolution. It depends on what you are digitizing the photos for. For high quality, set the resolution to a higher one. As a rule, the program offers several permissions, but you can set your own.

After setting the settings, click the "scan" button and see what happens. If you set the area correctly, then you will get a photo of the same format as the original one. After the scanner stops, an image will appear on the screen. It can be cropped, expanded and processed just like any other picture. In order to save a photo, go to the "file" menu and find the line "save" or "save as". Choose an extension and give the file a name.
