Cryptopro constantly requests a key carrier. CryptoPro CSP message appears “Insert key media” or “Another key media has been inserted


If the error appears while logging in, the following steps must be followed to solve it

1. Make sure that the media with the certificate is inserted (the media with the certificate is usually a floppy disk or ruToken smart card). The media must match the selected certificate.

2. Open "Start" > "Control Panel" > " CryptoPro CSP» > Tools tab > Delete Remembered Passwords button. In the window that opens, select the "User" item in the "Delete all remembered private key passwords" section and click the "OK" button.

If, when reinstalling the certificate, the "Select key container" window is empty, or the required container is not displayed in it, then use the following recommendations.

4. If a diskette is used as a key medium, then it must not be write-protected (on a write-protected diskette, both slots located at the corners of the medium are open).

5. If a flash drive whose name has been changed is used as a key carrier, then the former name must be returned.

6. If a floppy disk or a flash drive is used as a key container, make sure that the root of the media contains a folder containing the files: header, masks, masks2, name, primary, primary2. Files must have the extension . key, and the folder name format should be: xxxxxx.000 .

If any files are missing or not in the correct format, then the private key container may have been corrupted or deleted. Also, the container may be damaged if these files cannot be copied, for example, to the Desktop.

If there is no folder with the listed files on the diskette (flash drive), then there is no certificate on it. You need to check if the certificate is contained on other media.


If an error occurs while working in the system, the following steps must be taken to solve it

1. If this message occurs when trying to open a document, then it is often accompanied by an error when decrypting data . Use the following tips to resolve it.

2. When opening a document, try clicking the "Cancel" button several times in the key carrier request window that opens.

3. It is likely that the document that caused the error to open was encrypted with several certificates. If at the same time one of the key carriers with an outdated certificate was lost or damaged, then this certificate can be deleted from the "Personal" and "Other users" storage.

To do this, select the Start menu > Control Panel > Internet Options. Go to the "Contents" tab and click on the "Certificates" button.

After that, you need to go to the "Other users" tab, if there are personal certificates, they must be removed. Only certificates of regulatory authorities should remain on this tab.
