Positioning

From the Samsung Galaxy line of smartphones under 10,000 rubles, we tested Fit (S5670) and Gio (S5660). There was a real bestseller - Ace (S5830). It differs from its predecessors with a large 3.5-inch display and a high-quality 5 MP camera with flash.

Since mid-December, sales of Galaxy Ace with the "i" index - S5830i will begin. This is a small upgrade of the S5830, which consists in installing a new 3D accelerator and a processor with a clock speed of 832 MHz.

Actually, this model will be discussed today.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Galaxy Ace smartphone is a classic monoblock with dimensions of 112.4 x 59.9 mm and a thickness of 11.5 mm. The weight of the device is 113 grams. Outwardly, it looks like a smaller copy of the Samsung Galaxy S II: the same body shape and layout of controls with a rectangular "Home" button. The device is made of plastic: the back cover is black, has an embossed surface, chrome-plated edge around the perimeter, the material is glossy. The assembly of Samsung Ace is excellent: for a long time of testing, no squeak, no backlash, no crunch appeared. The screen, most likely, is not protected by special glass (or plastic), as it can be easily scratched by sharp objects. During operation, even small abrasions appeared.

Thanks to its light weight, ergonomic design and perforated surface of the back cover, the phone feels good in the hand. It fits perfectly in the pockets of jeans, shirts and jackets.

There is a proximity sensor on the front of the device. Next to it is a speaker. Its volume is average, there is no reserve, the interlocutor is heard legibly, but as if from afar. Below the screen are two touch keys "Back" and "Menu". Their backlight is white, not very bright, but in the light, in principle, you can see it. Between them is a mechanical rectangular “Home” button. I would add "classic" for Samsung. It is framed with chrome-plated plastic, the pressure is soft, the stroke is small. With a long hold, it brings up a menu with previously launched applications.

On the left side there is a thin, almost recessed into the body volume rocker key, a little higher there is a strap shackle. On the right is the on / off button, as well as the phone lock. Below is a compartment for installing a microSD memory card, covered with a plastic cap. The card is installed with a click.

The microphone is located on the bottom end, on the top there is a standard 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones or headset and microUSB, closed by a shutter. On the back side there is a large camera eye, an LED flash and a speaker covered with a metal mesh.

To remove the cover, you need to pry it from the recess on the bottom end. The battery is located under the cover, and the SIM card is installed in the upper area (the battery will have to be removed).

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone has one of the largest displays in the price range up to 10,000 rubles - a diagonal of 3.5". The resolution is standard - 320x480 pixels, and the density is 165 pixels per inch. 16 million shades of color, sensor - capacitive, fulfills up to two simultaneous touches.Sensitivity is average, slightly, but loses in this parameter Sony Ericsson Mini and Live With Walkman (located in the same price segment).

Viewing angles are small: under the slopes the picture loses contrast. The brightness is adjusted manually in the "Display" settings, since there is no light sensor in the device. There you can also select a font (after downloading it from the Market), calibrate the three-axis accelerometer (BMA222), set the screen timeout (from 30 seconds to 30 minutes), enable or disable auto-rotation of information when the phone is tilted.

Ace has a magnetic field sensor (MS-3E), orientation sensors, linear acceleration and "approximation" sensors (TMD26711).

In general, a relatively average screen, which is inferior in color reproduction to SE Mini / Mini Pro, Neo, and even more so - Samsung Wave S8500.

In the light, the screen fades slightly, the information remains readable.

Display comparison Samsung Galaxy Note (SuperAMOLED) (left), Sony Ericsson Arc (LED-backlit LCD), Samsung Galaxy S (SuperAMOLED), Samsung Omnia W (SuperAMOLED), HTC Mozart (S-LCD), Samsung Ace (TFT-LCD) ), Nokia 700* (CleareBlack AMOLED) (right):

* - the brightness of the Nokia 700 display at maximum brightness is higher than in the photo. This is due to the fact that I shot in the dark, and the phone's ambient light sensor slightly dimmed the backlight of the display.

Battery

The Samsung S5830 uses a 1350 mAh lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. Model EB494358VU. Exactly the same is in Galaxy Fit and Gio.

The manufacturer claims that in standby mode Galaxy Ace will "live" up to 640 hours (2G) and up to 420 hours 3G network. In talk mode - up to 11 hours (2G) and up to six and a half hours in 3G-network.

From USB it charges about two and a half hours, from the network - about 1.5.

Communication options

The Galaxy Ace smartphone works in 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) cellular networks. Chip - BCM21553.

HSDPA speed - up to 7.2 Mbps. Available Bluetooth version 2.1 (with A2DP stereo profile) for file and voice transfer. There were no problems with connecting headsets: it does not connect very quickly. There is a wireless connection Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n. The device can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot). In "Settings" there is a special item. Multimedia content is transmitted via DLNA. USB 2.0 (HighSpeed) is used to “transport” files and synchronize data. When Ace is connected to a PC, it is identified as a USB flash drive or USB modem.

Memory and memory card

The Samsung S5830 smartphone has 280 MB of RAM (usually about 180 MB free), which is enough for most tasks. However, I would like to have 512 MB, just as much of it in Sony Ericsson Mini (and others like it). About 190 MB of Flash-memory is allocated for installing applications (135 MB free). If desired, all applications are transferred to microSD, a 2 GB memory card is included in the package. Its maximum volume can be up to 32 GB.

Camera

The model has a 5-megapixel camera module with autofocus. There is a LED single-section LED-backlight. The maximum resolution of pictures is 2560x1920 pixels, video recording (without autofocus) is at a resolution of 320x240 pixels at 30 frames per second.

The quality of the pictures is very good: the detail is high, there is no “soap” at the edges, there is practically no “noise” in low lighting conditions. Below are comparison shots on Nokia 700 (left), Samsung Ace and Samsung Omnia W (right):

During video recording, you can use the volume buttons to adjust the 2x digital "zoom", and the quality is not lost (no artifacts).

The camera is launched through the menu using a shortcut. The interface is as follows: on the left - shooting mode (single shot, smile detection, continuous, panorama), scenes (landscape, night, sports, indoor, beach, sunset, etc.), backlight (off, off and "automatic"). "), settings. On the right is the gallery, switching from photo to video.

Photo settings:

  • Exposure value (-2 to +2)
  • Focus mode (autofocus, macro)
  • Timer
  • Resolution (320x240, 1280x960, 1600x1200, 2048x1536, 2560x1920)
  • ISO (auto, 100, 200 and 400)
  • Metering (center-weighted, spot metering, matrix)
  • Quality (normal, excellent, best)
  • Adjust (contrast, saturation, sharpness)

Video mode interface: left - recording mode (normal, for MMS), backlight, settings; on the right - switching from video to photo, entering the gallery.

Video settings:

  • Timer
  • Resolution (176x144, 320x240)
  • White balance (auto, daylight, cloudy, incandescent)
  • Effects (no effects, negative, black and white, sepia)
  • Video quality (normal, excellent, best)

The photo album looks familiar to Android devices.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i smartphone has a processor running at a clock speed of 832 MHz (minimum - 312 MHz). Unlike previous models, it uses a graphics accelerator from Broadcom - VideoCore IV HW with support for OpenGL ES-CM 1.1. It is a multimedia processor with 40nm and using CMOS technology. The main features are: the use of 20-megapixel digital cameras, Full HD video recording and playback, and 1 gigapixel 2D/3D graphics rendering. Unfortunately, in practice it is no different from the Adreno 200/205.

During testing, the device behaved quite stably: no freezes and brakes were observed.

System Information:

Navigation

The smartphone has a GPS navigator. Its functionality is the same as in most inexpensive phones. "Cold" start - about two minutes, "hot" - up to 10-15 seconds.

Software platform

The Samsung Ace smartphone runs on Android version 2.3.6. Firmware version - S5830iXXKL1, kernel version - [email protected], assembly - Gingerbread.XXKL2.

Shell and menu

The familiar TouchWIZ 3.0 shell is used: seven desktops (3 by default) with widgets, a panel with "Dialer", "Contacts", "Messages" and the entrance to the "Menu". To unlock the screen, you must press the "Menu" button or the power button of the device and then move the background image to the side. Desktops are assigned: shortcuts, folders, hot keys and various widgets. As wallpaper, static and animated screensavers are used. When you hold the mechanical button "Home" for a long time, a menu with previously launched applications appears. There is also a task manager.

The menu is represented by 16 icons in a 4x4 grid on one screen. By clicking on the "Menu" and selecting "change" in it, the shortcuts can be moved. Including, install them in the bottom panel (“Home” cannot be replaced).

Challenges

Standard dialer for Samsung phones. It is easy to get into contacts and call log from it. When dialing a number, a list of contacts starting with these numbers appears in the input field window. To create a contact, you must click on the "plus" in the "contacts". The following information is available for each subscriber: avatar, first and last name, phone number, email address, Google Talk account, group, ringtone, mailing address, organization, note, nickname, website, birthday and anniversary.

Messages

Two types of keyboards are used for typing: "Samsung" and Swype. The phone has an accelerometer, so when you turn the smartphone on its side, the keyboard takes on a landscape look, and it is more convenient to enter text. The options include the following items:

  • Add a theme
  • Add text
  • Delete text
  • Invest
  • Insert emoticon
  • Cancel

Applications

To install programs and games in Galaxy Ace, there is an Android Market application store, and below is a list of those applications that are already loaded into the phone’s memory, mostly standard software.

Clock. The screen displays time, date and weather information. From this screen, you can switch to an album with photos, music, and set an alarm.

The calendar.

Notes.

Internet. Regular internet browser.

Cards. Google Maps for navigation.

Social Hub. This is a comprehensive solution that is integrated as part of the TouchWiz 3.0 shell on top of the operating system of the device. It includes mechanisms for supporting various data feed formats with a special implementation of their feed. The user gets a kind of phone book, in which you can add not only a phone number, but also social network data (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace), e-mail or Internet messenger (ICQ, AOL).

YouTube. Client for viewing video from the site youtube.com.

Google Talk. Chat by Google.

Calculator.

Samsung Apps. App store from Samsung. Some kind of Android Market.

Dictaphone.

Task Manager. View active and downloaded applications. Allows you to clear memory and remove programs.

Web browser

Standard web browser. Surfing is much more convenient than, for example, Gio and Fit - screen size matters. Supports multi-touch - pinch zoom. In general, there were no problems: it quickly opens pages, and the interface behaves smoothly.

Multimedia

Music player

The familiar player from Samsung is used. In the main menu, you can organize songs by artists, albums and songs. When playing a song, the album cover, player control keys, and a button for viewing the list of songs are displayed on the screen. In the settings it is possible to set the sound to 5.1 or select an equalizer. For the latter, 11 presets are available: rock, jazz, classical, dance, pop, live sound, concert hall, wide range, music clarity, bass boost and externalization.

The sound volume of the polyphonic speaker is not high and is comparable to the volume of the Samsung Fit speaker. Reproduces cleanly, without overloads. Headphone sound quality is average for most low-end Android devices. In short, all sound parameters are almost the same as on all previous devices: Fit, Gio and Mini.

FM radio

For its operation, you need to connect headphones, they act as an antenna. The radio sensitivity is good. Operating range 85 - 108 MHz, RDS supported. Large digits of the current frequency appear on the screen, at the bottom - four cells of frequently listened to radio stations. In the settings, you can set the radio auto-off timer: from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The volume is high.

Video player

There is no separate application. All video files are easy to find in the "Gallery". The player is simple, with support for H264/H263 codecs and MP4 and 3GP formats. The maximum resolution of videos is 640x360 pixels with a bit rate of no more than 2000 Kbps in MP4 format. There are no settings, only rewind videos and "play" / "pause".

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone made a good impression: photos that are not bad in terms of detail, a high-quality speech speaker, a “nimble” interface and an excellent ergonomic design. However, Samsung S5830 has enough competitors.

One of them is Huawei IDEO X5. It has an original design, 512 MB of RAM, a more modern Qualcomm MSM7230 processor with a clock frequency of 800 MHz. In addition, the screen diagonal is 3.8 inches and the resolution is 480x800 pixels. The average cost of X5 is about 10,000 rubles. Recommend.

The new LG Optimus Hub boasts a 3.5-inch diagonal display with a resolution of 320x480, a 5-megapixel camera, 512 MB of RAM, a Qulacomm MSM7227T processor with a clock speed of 800 MHz and more than an attractive price tag - 8,000 - 9,000 rubles.

Music Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman. It seems to me that one of the most interesting smartphones of the outgoing year. With an average cost of 8,500 rubles, it has a powerful Qualcomm MSM8255 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, a fast 5 MP camera with HD video recording, and two very loud stereo speakers. The display resolution is the same as the Ace, but the diagonal is slightly smaller - 3.2".

By the way, why not try the Bada-device Samsung S8530: an excellent screen with a Super Clear LCD matrix, 3.7-inch diagonal, resolution of 480x800 pixels. No less interesting is the camera: 5 MP with autofocus, flash and HD video recording. Now it can be bought for 8,500 - 9,000 rubles.

In general, it is up to you, as always, to decide, but I would take a closer look at the Huawei X5 or the SE LWW.

My first android smartphone. Actually, it was after that that I realized why Symbian, with which I switched, is doomed. Opportunities in Android already then were many times more. I was pleased with the camera with autofocus, multitasking, widgets, social networks and everything else. Over time, the phone began to become morally obsolete in software and hardware and stopped supporting, and it’s trite to accommodate the desired new applications. The latter began to be given with great difficulty and the device hung / turned off from them. In view of this circumstance, having served faithfully for three years, the phone was reset to factory settings and sold in 2015. The impressions from the use were the most positive. It was a reliable, inexpensive and feature-packed phone.

Advantages: - camera with autofocus, which captures text in great detail; - Android OS is used with customization, multitasking and a bunch of useful applications; - resistant to mechanical stress; - light, small, therefore quite ergonomic; - removable battery.

Disadvantages: - it was bought, as a rule, immediately with a memory card due to the meager volume of it in the device itself; - battery (eternal headache in early versions of android: battery capacity is never enough)

The phone has been alive for like 10 years, apparently I will change it with the release of the iPhone 15XSL (in another 10 years) The android version is old, has not been updated for a long time, but everything you need to eat without unnecessary garbage. Calls/SMS and internet browser. It happens sometimes, but the only time it was "repaired" was to replace the standard battery with another one.

Advantages: 1. Strong / durable 2. Large screen 3. Good camera 4. Easy to pick up a case 5. No useless programs / a lot of your own memory 6. Compact and not heavy, you can fit everything in your pocket

The phone was bought a couple of years ago for 10 thousand rubles. For that time, the phone was just super, used and rejoiced! Finding a clip or flip case was not a problem for me, rather than buying for 500-1000 rubles in a store, I just ordered a convenient flip case from China for only 120 rubles. The phone is very nicely made, nothing superfluous, everything is strict and beautiful. The durability is also very good - it survived many falls without problems, both on asphalt and on the ground, and nothing. But one day, on the run, he fell out of his pocket (he was without a cover) and hit right on his leg, which sent him on an accelerated flight towards the asphalt - this time the strength did not save, the display glass burst, but this did not affect the display itself and the operation of the sensor no influence, except that it has become worse because of the cracks. And again, 2 weeks of waiting for new glass from the same China (in my city, glass cost from 1900, and I ordered for 167 rubles! - the difference is noticeable). When installing a new glass, there were no problems, 30 minutes of independent work and the phone is as good as new! By the way, I want to add that for almost 3 years of operation, the native glass was neither scratched (although I often wore the phone without a case), nor rubbed off! But just recently, due to an absurd accident, I was forced to part with my phone - it ended up in the back pocket of my jeans, at the moment of my fifth point falling on the edge of a concrete staircase step ... This time both the glass and the display itself were broken .. I still consider it pointless to restore, because the phone has already worked out its time, maybe later I will restore it purely for memory) The result is this: If you need an inexpensive, but high-quality and beautiful phone, then take it without hesitation! It is not suitable for games, but for everyday use it is just perfect! If there is not enough battery, then you can buy a high-capacity battery or an independent charger (all this can be ordered from China at a very nice price).

Pros: -Beautiful design! -Good camera. -Pleasant to the touch back panel (black ribbed) -Durability of the phone. - The price is now. - Bright and responsive display. - Loud speaker. -Strength. -Ease of use (android 2.3.6 is very easy to learn). -Good microphone. -Famous brand. - Bright LED flash.

Disadvantages: -278MB (namely 278, not 256) is still not enough for normal games. - Expensive covers in Russia. - Not enough built-in memory. -Small battery (however, like all android smartphones)

More than 3 years have passed, and the phone works as before. Left it as a backup. Now, when phones with screens from 5 inches are in fashion, its screen seems to be small, but in general, Samsung of this model pleases.

Advantages: Pleasant to the touch (two covers were included in the package: white smooth and black ribbed) compact phone, the sensor works well. Bought over 3 years ago and has never let me down. For those years, he took very good photographs. Blind instead of a plug on the usb port. Conveniently. The side volume and lock buttons do not hang out, do not come out and are pressed comfortably. As a gift to the phone, they also gave him a 2 GB flash drive.

When I first bought it, I really liked it - my first touch phone. At the moment, having worked for several years, he finally turned off. In general, a normal budget model, much has not been finalized, and at the moment it is already an outdated gadget. Worked for 3.5 years. At first, Skype and ICQ and other applications were launched there, but despite the constant cleaning of garbage, the memory became clogged and the applications had to be deleted one by one in order to somehow work =(((I have a lot of calls and various correspondence at work, for my it hasn’t been suitable for its goals for a long time, but when it stopped working, there was a reason to buy something more powerful. But if you have few contacts and you don’t have to save all correspondence (including SMS) and you don’t use the Internet very much on your mobile - excellent model: the screen is bright, VKontakte worked until the last minute and the train schedule. In general, this is primarily a phone with a set of additional useful functions.

Pros: Design, user-friendly interface and work with applications.

Disadvantages: the battery slows down, nothing is visible in the sun, there is no event indicator.

Today we're looking at Samsung's mid-range successor, the Ace, codenamed GT-S5830. After the GT-i5800 model, Ace still pulls to the title of successor over the famous and popular i5700 Spica model. The screen resolution was returned to its original position (in the i5800 it was reduced to 240x400 pixels), the hardware has become modern for its segment. But whether Ace will become a bestseller among competitors and whether Spica will repeat the success, time will tell.

However, it will not be easy to surpass the glory of the Spoke, as it seems to me. Subjective opinion, but, at first glance, if I now had to choose between Ace and Spica, the choice would be ambiguous.

The fact is that Spica has more developed external data. So, there is no gloss in the body materials, and in general, the experience of active and long-term use of the i5700 showed that the appearance of the model is very resistant to wear. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that an all-glossy Ace will rub off faster.

Also, the predecessor has all mechanical keys and there are not three of them, like the Ace. There is even a joystick, which is so lacking in modern sensor devices, especially in winter.

But not everything is so good. Spitz had serious performance problems. Despite the high frequency, the hardware was sharpened only to play the converted video. There were problems with games and especially 3D. However, the popularity of the model allowed the smartphone to bypass many obstacles. So, and today all new custom ones are released on the i5700.

Let's look at the new model. Yes, the Ace is vastly superior to the Galaxy 580. But if you compare it to the Spica, the Ace, with an amateur case, wins in terms of performance. About them below.

Appearance

Despite the glossy body, Ace looks good. Outwardly, it evokes persistent associations with the iPhone 4, the same gray edging on the side, the color of the body and only one key in rest mode. Until you unlock the device, the two touch buttons are not visible at all.

Location of everything on the body

On the front side of the smartphone there is a screen with a diagonal of 3.5″ and a resolution of 320x480 pixels. This is the standard resolution for a device of this level. The screen is made using TFT technology and has a capacitive touch surface. Viewing angles are good, but not great. Multi-touch is well implemented, I did not notice confusion in touches like on LG Optimus One and Google Nexus One.

Above the screen are a speaker and a proximity sensor, and below it are the control keys. As in the entire Galaxy line, you can unlock the device not only by pressing the power key, but also by pressing the central mechanical key.

On the right we see the power button and screen lock, as well as a slot for a microSD memory card under the cover. If you often change memory cards, for example, to watch movies, you will like this solution.

On the right is a paired volume rocker and an eyelet for a cord.

Only the microphone is located at the bottom, and at the top we see a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, as well as a connector for a MicroUSB cable. The latter is hidden behind a curtain. We see a similar solution in the Galaxy S.

The back cover is the most glossy I have ever seen. It's just glossy. There is not even any pattern, like on the Galaxy S or Nexus S. Prints are part of the existence of the cover.

Among the black gloss is a 5MP camera with flash and a speaker. The camera has autofocus and takes good pictures, but video recording in Ace is only for show, as it shoots video with a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels. Does this still happen? I'm sure it's a marketing ploy.

Photo examples

After removing the cover, you will see the battery itself, with a capacity of 1350 mAh, as well as a slot for a SIM card. The battery is not miraculous, it provides a daily diet for a smartphone, but no more. Of course, it all depends on the activity of use. With a moderate load, you can get a two-day mode of operation.

ON

Galaxy Ace is running Android OS 2.2.1. In principle, this can no longer be called very good, as it should be. Whether there will be an update to 2.3 is not known. This is a minus compared to the competing model LG Optimus One, which will definitely be updated.

As we are used to seeing in Samsung smartphones, there is an add-on for the TouchWiz 3.0 interface on top of bare Android. Plus or minus I will not say, because I think this is a matter of taste. My taste leans towards bare Android.

Desktops, menus have been changed in TouchWiz, some services and applications have been added. Pleased with the presence of the Swype keyboard right out of the box.

Specifications

I confess that I did not expect such performance from Ace, the smartphone turned out to be good in this regard. On the Ace, you can play cool 3D games like Raging Thunder 2, Gangstar: Miami Vindication HD, Brothers In Arms 2: Global Front HD 3D, and more. And the Neocore test only confirms the performance of these games.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Express Video Review

Conclusion

We have not received a revolution that needs to be sawed and sawed in order for a diamond to come out. We received a functionally good and ready-to-use smartphone on Android OS. The Galaxy Ace is fast enough for heavy gaming and fairly inexpensive. For example, a model similar in characteristics from , will cost the buyer $ 100 more. Do not forget about, which costs the same, but has a more practical case.

One of the advantages is an advanced community of enthusiasts who make candy out of an already good device. Many will never have to mess around with custom, but for those who change Spica to Ace, this will be a good bonus.

The disadvantages include too strong "gloss" of the case. I don't want to call it any other way. Some may not like some similarity in design with the iPhone 4.

Our verdict: Moderately stylish, well-built, powerful enough and the most glossy Android smartphone with a good camera and a video camera for show.

After the resounding success of the Galaxy S smartphone, Samsung has clearly thought about its development. Moreover, it was decided to do this not only by releasing a more advanced modification in the face of the Galaxy S II, but also by expanding the line due to cheaper models.

Samsung Galaxy Ace is the same “cheaper model”. In addition, in terms of its characteristics and price, it belongs to the very “golden mean” that many consumers are usually looking for. Of course, the Galaxy Ace differs from the flagships in many ways: from case materials to screen type. Nevertheless, at a price in the region of 9 thousand, it is a very good option to purchase.

Not surprisingly, according to the data we have, the phone is sold more than successfully. We do not undertake to judge how much more successful it is in this regard than the flagships with the letter “S” in the name, but it is unlikely that it is much worse. After all, not everyone needs a maximum of technology in one smartphone. And its dimensions are not so large due to the smaller diagonal of the screen. So further we will try to figure out why the Galaxy Ace deserved its popularity.

Design

The appearance of the Galaxy Ace is typical for Samsung smartphones - we don’t know that Apple saw something similar in the design of South Korean devices in comparison with its iPhones, but it’s not difficult to distinguish Samsung products to a trained eye. She has her own recognizable style, and it is also used to design the Galaxy Ace.

What is included in this style? First of all, the noticeably rounded shape of the side ends, then there are three buttons, one of which is physical, traditionally framed by a chrome frame. Well, apparently, the very word "Samsung" under the speaker. In our opinion, there is nothing to blame the company for - everything necessary to differentiate its touch devices from competitors' products has been done.

However, if you look in general, the appearance of the Galaxy Ace does not stand out in any way. Moreover, it is immediately clear from it that this is nothing more than an “average”. This is facilitated by a light gray strip, "fitted" on the side ends, as well as the glossy plastic of the back cover. And you can immediately see that the body of the device is made of plastic. The plastic, however, is not bad - quite strong, and the assembly was carried out with high quality, without squeaks and backlash. But still, the phone does not look expensive, like, for example, the same Google Nexus S, also made of plastic.

Accustomed to looking at “refined” flagships, we immediately caught our eye on the thickness of the Galaxy Ace case. The 3.5″ screen enhances the “fatty effect” even more – in a 4.0″ device it is noticeably smaller. However, compared to its direct competitors, the dimensions and weight of a Samsung smartphone are not so great, and some of them even surpass them in these parameters.

As a result, Galaxy Ace left mixed impressions. It is felt that the phone is clearly not the cheapest, it is well made, but at the same time it is clear that this is not the most expensive model. Its design cannot be called extraordinary - a typical plastic "bar" in a typical Samsung style. Probably, if the company's designers had played with the color and given up the gloss on the back cover, it would have been possible to get a better result. But, as we said, the device definitely looks good for its money.

Connectors and controls

That the design of the Galaxy Ace matches the general style of Samsung's Googlephones predetermines its set of basic controls.

There are three buttons: "Menu", "Back" and "Home". As always, the first touch and are located on the right and left edges of the front panel. The Home button is made physical, and even framed by a relatively thick chrome frame. I must say that the presence of this button significantly changes the experience of using the phone - it is easy to find by touch, and besides, it is easy to remember that the Menu button is on the left, and the Back button is on the right. So even touch controls are not so difficult to find blindly.

At the top of the front side is a speaker, taken away by a silvery metal mesh, and to the right of it is a light sensor. Below is the name of the manufacturer.

On the left side are two embossed buttons for volume control. They can be used blindly without any problems.

On the right is the button to turn the phone on and off, as well as a compartment for microSD cards.

The microSD compartment is hidden by a small plastic cover that is fairly easy to pry off with your fingernail and open.

The top edge is occupied by a 3.5 mm headphone and headset jack, as well as a USB connector. The latter is hidden behind a plastic shutter, which slides inside the case when opened. It is worth emphasizing the useful qualities of such a design - the valve is extremely difficult to accidentally break and at the same time it prevents the connector from getting dirty.

At the bottom there is a microphone and a recess for removing the back cover of the case. The latter is removed with the application of certain efforts, which, in general, can be considered more of an advantage than a disadvantage - you often do not have to climb inside, therefore it is better that the lid does not loosen.

At the top of the rear panel, we found a camera lens, an LED flash and a speaker on the opposite side.

At the bottom, only the logo-name of the manufacturer is applied.

Under the lid is a body made of durable light matte plastic. The compartment for the SIM card is immediately visible, but it still cannot be removed without removing the battery.

Under the battery was only a sticker with technical information about the phone.

Since we were dealing with a test image of the Galaxy Ace, it will not be possible to talk about its bundle. So we go straight to the screen.

Screen

Although Samsung is famous for its advanced OLED screens, the Galaxy Ace uses a conventional TFT matrix. AMOLED, and even more so SuperAMOLED (plus), are left to the flagships. Nevertheless, the image quality did not disappoint us. For a device of this price, it is quite rich and bright. Plus, we were pleased with the good viewing angles.

As for the resolution, it is also less than the "flagship" one - 320x480 pixels (HVGA). Most mid-range phones are equipped with this. At the same time, it cannot be said that the image is grainy - with a diagonal of 3.5 "the "notches" at the corners on the screen are practically not noticeable. Now, if it were even smaller (like, for example, in the Samsung Galaxy Player 50), then the situation would be less iridescent.

In addition, it remains to add that the display is made using capacitive technology, and therefore responds well to touch, and also supports multiple touch recognition. In addition, the screen is additionally protected by Gorilla Glass - a special high-strength glass.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy Ace is equipped with a very good camera that can take pictures with a resolution of 5 MP. At the same time, the camera supports the autofocus function and is equipped with an LED flash - a good kit for a phone of this class. The quality of shooting can be assessed by the following examples:

In simple shooting conditions (read during the day on the street in clear weather), we got excellent clear pictures with the right white balance. In more difficult conditions, color reproduction remained at a high level, although the phone will have to be held more firmly so that the image does not smear.

The phone does not have a front camera, so the system only controls the rear.

Settings allow you to set the shooting resolution, turn autofocus on or off, adjust ISO settings, and specify the level of image compression.

The flash can be forcibly turned on or off, or set to auto-detect.

There are preset presets for scene shooting.

You can also set the shooting mode: single shot, burst shot, motion shot, smile detection, and panorama shooting.

As for the video, it can be shot in a rather low resolution - only 320x240 pixels (QVGA).

Specification

Galaxy Ace competes with LG Optimus One (P500) in terms of features and price. Both of these phones are comparable in features. For clarity, we summarize their configurations in one table.

Indeed, both devices are comparable, although sometimes better than Samsung, and sometimes better than LG. The first thing that distinguishes the Galaxy Ace is the 800 MHz processor. It's not a record-breaking chip today, but you can't call it slow either. Two years ago it was "above average, almost flagship", and now it's just "average". Indeed, we were quite satisfied with the speed of the device - applications reacted to user actions without unnecessary delays. So, if you do not load the phone with something particularly “heavy”, then it will show itself from the best side. By the way, the processor in Optimus One is a little more modest - only 600 MHz.

As for the video core, both devices are based on SoC (System on a Chip) Qualcomm MSM7227, so the same chip is responsible for the graphics - Adreno 200. Not the fastest solution on the market, but some kind of graphics accelerator. The game Angry Birds in any case did not slow down.

A noticeable difference is the amount of RAM. In the Galaxy Ace, it is almost half as much as in the P500. Of course, you can remember that we are dealing with the middle class, but still at least 384 MB would be more appropriate to see. After all, LG was able to install 512 MB.

There is not much built-in memory in phones - about one and a half hundred megabytes. It is assumed that the owner will expand the memory on his own. However, both Samsung and LG bundle the Galaxy Ace and Optimus One with a 2GB microSD card. If this is not enough, then the devices support drives up to 32 GB inclusive.

In terms of screens, both phones do not differ. Unless the P500 has a smaller diagonal, but this is not so critical. But the Galaxy Ace camera can shoot with a higher resolution, and the FM tuner supports RDS. It remains to mention the less capacious battery of the Samsung smartphone and its smaller dimensions and weight.

ON

The sample Galaxy Ace that came to us was installed with Android version 2.2 (more precisely 2.2.1). However, at the time of writing, information appeared about the availability of a newer firmware with Android 2.3. But, we believe, there are not very many external changes between different firmware. For the most part, the set of pre-installed software has been preserved, and the standard TouchWiz shell for Samsung devices has not disappeared.

Recall that TouchWiz is distinguished by the presence of a special panel at the bottom with icons for calling applications for making calls, working with contacts, an email client and a list of all applications. Of course, they can be replaced - the listed list is set by default. Widgets can be placed on the desktop, as well as application shortcuts. There can be several desktops. The implementation of wallpaper is interesting - one background is stretched over several desktops. That is, when switching between tables, the wallpaper also changes slightly.

There are 16 icons on the application list screen. You can scroll through them by moving your finger left and right. Initially, 31 applications are preinstalled, which fit on two screens. Any of the applications can be dragged to the bottom panel.

The program for making calls is quite convenient and nicely designed. It includes a numeric keypad for dialing, a log of incoming and outgoing calls, as well as a list of favorite numbers, which also shows frequently dialed numbers.

The list of contacts is not much different from analogues in other phones.

SMS messages are displayed as a chat - also a common occurrence.

The on-screen keyboard is branded, from Samsung. In our opinion, it is more convenient than the standard one. First of all, it allows you to print additional characters by holding your finger on the “key”. It also supports the proprietary Swype typing method - Samsung introduced it a long time ago.

Phone settings are generally standard. Only a separate item is allocated for configuring the Samsung Apps branded application, which is not available on non-Samsung devices.

It is worth noting the presence of a functional application manager and task manager, which allow you to flexibly manage installed programs, remove them, see what is currently running, how much memory each application takes separately and how much RAM is free.

Now about the pre-installed software. The calculator, although it is "designed" in the style of Samsung, differs little from analogues.

The Calendar and Clock applications are nothing special - standard programs from Android.

The mail client is also standard. Generally easy to use, allows you to view email headers without downloading their content.

The traditional Google Maps is responsible for navigation, which is used by several other programs, including Latitude.

There is a simple application for adding notes.

However, the presence of an office suite is much more important. Samsung installs ThinkFree Office Mobile on its smartphones. It allows you to create and view word documents, spreadsheets, and presentations that are compatible with Microsoft Office.

Gallery for viewing photos from the standard set of Android, but the file manager "My Files" is not. The manager is not very functional, but it will be enough for most users. Moreover, his very presence is commendable.

The FM receiver and voice recorder are very colorful and very easy to use.

The installed media player pleased with its functionality. It sorts all files based on ID3 tags (if it finds them). So tracks can be grouped by artist, albums, or alphabetically. During playback, basic information is shown: title, artist, album, and album cover, if any. In addition, there is an equalizer, and the player controls are displayed in the system notification area during playback.

There is another curious application found on Samsung phones - AllShare. It allows you to stream and receive media streams to and from a variety of compatible devices. So we almost managed to start playing the audio track on the monitor. Why exactly it didn’t work out can be read in the corresponding one. It also contains a detailed description of this application.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Ace left behind mostly positive impressions. The smartphone is distinguished by a good combination of characteristics and price. At a cost of about 9 thousand rubles, it is one of the best deals on the market. We liked its good performance, convenient TouchWiz shell (by the way, LG Optimus One lacks a proprietary shell), high build quality, good screen and camera.

The dimensions and weight of the device cannot be called large either, although it is “thick” compared to the flagships. The controversial decisions, in our opinion, include the materials from which the case is made. No, they are of high quality and are unlikely to wear out quickly, but they look “cheap”. Probably refuse Samsung from the glossy back cover, it would already be better. Yes, and the side ends could be arranged a little more interesting.

However, the design, if you look, still plays a decisive role when choosing a phone. Otherwise, it’s quite difficult for the Galaxy Ace to find a competitor, and therefore you can safely buy it yourself if you are looking for an inexpensive, but high-quality, functional and fast Google phone.

Ace S5830 is a real bestseller, a real hit of the company's sales! It is included in the Galaxy product line, as you might have guessed from the name of the model, and also falls in the range of up to ten thousand rubles at a price. Ace S5830 differs from its predecessors (and these are Fit and Gio) in that it has a fairly high-quality 5 megapixel camera and a 3.5-inch touch screen. By the way, the camera is equipped with an LED flash, which allows you to take very good pictures in low light conditions.

Introduction

In December 2011, long past, a device under the I index began to be delivered to the smartphone market. This is the S5830, or rather, its modification. What are the differences between these two models? In the device with index I, a slightly different graphics accelerator is installed, and there is also another processor operating at a frequency of 832 megahertz.

Equipment

The delivery set of the device includes, in addition to itself, the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace Black battery, as well as a charger. The user is also given the opportunity to synchronize the smartphone with a personal computer or laptop using a MicroUSB - USB cable. This cable is included with the device. Well, the set is completed by a 2 GB MicroSD memory card. It may or may not come with the phone. It all depends on the country in which the device is purchased.

Dimensions

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is the most real candy bar. Its dimensions in all three planes are 112.4 by 59.9 by 11.5 millimeters. The weight of the smartphone is 113 grams.

Appearance

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is similar to the device called S II. So to say, outwardly it is just a reduced copy of the corresponding phone. The control elements are still located, supplemented by a rectangular button, the device body has the same geometry.

Production material

The body of the smartphone is made of ordinary plastic. The back panel is painted black, the cover is not smooth, but embossed. A practical solution, given the fact that the relief helps to avoid scratches and mechanical damage. At the same time, the lid will still rub off, and fingerprints on black plastic are much more noticeable than on white. Otherwise, we note that a chrome edging runs along the perimeter of the phone. The plastic from which the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace phone is made (firmware is available on the official website of the company) is glossy.

Build quality

It can please people who have made their choice in favor of this device. Smartphone specialists repeatedly conducted tests that revealed the excellent build quality of the device. The device did not reveal backlashes or squeaks during long-term operation. Not even the most ordinary crunch appeared. At the same time, the screen of the device is not protected by additional glass or plastic. That is why scratching it will not be so difficult.

Reliability and convenience

Such a small mass made it possible to successfully use the device. The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 phone, the price of which is about nine thousand rubles, lies in the hand, very reliably. This is achieved, among other things, due to the ergonomic design, which is complemented by a perforated back panel. It is convenient to transport the phone in any pocket, be it jeans, a jacket or an ordinary shirt.

Front Panel

It is located here. It is located in the upper part of the front side. Not far from him, to the side, perched a conversational speaker. Its volume is average, sometimes in a conversation is not enough. There is no necessary margin, for which you can automatically put a minus. Yes, the quality is generally on the level. You can hear the interlocutor from the other end of the wire legibly, the purity of the sound is not lame. But if you work in a high noise environment or the interlocutor has problems with the microphone (and maybe he speaks quietly himself), then this will be a serious problem.

Under the screen, there are touch keys that will allow us to get to the main menu, as well as go back one item. There is a backlight. It is not regulated. Illumination color - white. It is not visible in the light, although in low light conditions it becomes an obvious advantage of the device. Between the elements of the transition to the menu and the item back there is a key with which we can move to the desktop of the device. This is a standard move for the creations of the South Korean manufacturer. The key is framed with chrome-plated plastic. It has a small stroke, it is squeezed quite softly. If the user presses the button for a few seconds, a menu will open. In it we can see which applications are currently running on the phone.

Left side

Here is a thin key that allows us to adjust the volume level in the device. With its help, we can change the sound mode, as well as control the volume in the multimedia player, where music files and video clips are opened. A little higher you can find a sector in which there is a strap mount. As a precaution, this cannot be overlooked.

Right side

There is a power button on this side. It is responsible for locking and unlocking the device, as well as turning it on and off. Just below the button, you can find a compartment in which the user can install a microSD memory card. This socket is covered with a special protective cap made of plastic. When the card is installed properly, you will hear a soft click.

bottom end

Upper end

There will be more choice here, after all. The composition consists of a 3.5 mm standard wired headset jack, as well as a MicroUSB port, which simultaneously serves as a means of synchronization with a personal computer and charging.

Rear panel

It has a fairly large peephole of the main camera. Nearby there is a flash that allows you to take photos of good quality in low light conditions. Well, everything ends with a sound speaker, which is covered with a metal mesh.

Removing the cover is easy enough. To do this, simply pry it off in the area of the lower end, for a special recess. When the user removes the back cover, he will be able to find the battery of the device under it. If you also remove it, you can see the slot in which the SIM card is installed.

Conclusion and reviews of the owners

In general, the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 makes a fairly good impression. And this cannot be ignored. What is included in the list of the main advantages of the device? First, it's a camera. Still, five megapixels are not lying on the road. Photos are of high quality, even in low light. Well, in general, and this case is no exception.

Secondly, we managed to implant the software and the operating system quite well. It works quite quickly, no special slowdowns were found during numerous tests. Thirdly, the advantage is an interesting, ergonomic design. But in order to compete with the most powerful devices in the segment, this is clearly not enough. Probably, we should say a few words about the dynamics of the device, which is distinguished by the purity of the sound.

Competitors

One of the competitors of Samsung Galaxy Ace is Huawei IDEO X5. Compared to the subject of our today's review, it has a more original design, which is automatically recorded as an advantage. In addition, 512 megabytes of RAM is built into the device, and a more powerful processor provides better performance. The processor operates at a frequency of 800 megahertz. In addition, the diagonal of this device will be larger by 0.3 inches. The screen resolution of Huawei is 480 by 800 pixels. The average cost of the device is almost the same - ten thousand rubles.

Another competitor is the LG Optimus Hub. Here we have a screen of the same diagonal. The resolution will be smaller, only 320 by 480 pixels. However, there is a camera (5 megapixels). The device has a built-in 512 MB of RAM, there is a processor of the Qualcomm family. It operates at frequencies up to 800 megahertz. The price of the device falls in the range of eight to nine thousand rubles.

Finally, we will answer the question of how to update the Samsung GT S5830 Galaxy Ace. To do this, we need firmware for the device, which can be found on the official website of the company. Appropriate programs are also needed. We are, of course, talking about Kies. After all the components are assembled, we connect the phone and start the automated file replacement process. However, the user does this at his own peril and risk, do not forget about it.

By the way, in the object of our today's review of RAM, two times less RAM is installed. And this sometimes leads buyers to the idea that it is better to take another device with better technical characteristics for a similar cost. And the built-in memory for storing user data hardly exceeds 150 megabytes.
