You can add a watermark to a Word document in the menu "Substrate", and we have already written about how to do this. In this article, we will talk about the opposite task, namely, how to remove the watermark. In many cases, especially when working with other people's documents or documents downloaded from the Internet, this may also be necessary.

2. Open a tab "Design"(if you are not using one of the latest versions of Word, go to the “Page Layout” tab).

This is how you can easily remove the watermark on the pages of a Word document. Master this program, studying all its features and functions.

Word text editor today is not able to use only a child. This is the most famous word processing program, combining dozens of convenient functions for creating, editing and formatting documents.

Despite its popularity, Word has a lot of features that not every user knows about. Recently we talked about, and today we will touch on a similar topic - how to remove unnecessary text. It can be either a watermark or just fragments of an article that you need to get rid of. Depending on the problem itself, the solution methods may differ. But let's talk about everything in order.

Watermarking a document is a great way to make it unique. So you can emphasize the secrecy of information, indicate your brand, mark a draft or sample. The function is excellent and useful, but it happens that you still need to get rid of the text in the background.

First, open your text document.

It is possible that the background is a WordArt object. This is the simplest case. Here, simply click on it and press Delete.

But usually things are a little more complicated, so we will look at other ways to solve the problem. So, in the top panel, find the "Page Layout" tab.

We consider everything on the Word 2010 version, but the same principle is preserved in earlier versions of the program: 2007 and 2003

In the Page Background section, select Watermark.

Click on the "Remove background" button

The same method is clearly demonstrated in just half a minute in the video.

The background should be removed on all pages of your document. If this does not happen, try the second method, which we describe below.

Watermarks on the page

Sometimes the substrate is adjusted using headers and footers.

Headers and footers in Word are margins at the top and bottom of a page that separate text from the edges of a document.

To adjust them, double click on the header.

You have activated the mode of working with headers and footers, which will allow you to manage all the substrates associated with them

Here you can edit the background - move it, resize or rotate it. To remove a watermark, click on it and press Delete.

Important! If the document has several sections, then you will have to remove the background in turn in each of them.

How to remove all text from a document

Deleting plain text in Word is done using the keyboard - the Delete or Backspace keys. Let's see how they differ.

To get started, click the cursor in the right place in the text document. Delete allows you to erase characters that are after the cursor, as if pulling up all the text located in front. Backspace, on the contrary, erases characters before the cursor, shortening the text fragment

You can delete text one character at a time or whole pieces. To erase a given fragment, use the left mouse button.

Highlight the entire part that you want to erase with the cursor, then press Delete or Backspace

It is convenient to use various keyboard shortcuts or a few mouse clicks to speed up your work. For example, you can double-click a word to select a specific word, or triple-click to select an entire paragraph. Holding down the Ctrl key while you click on any part of a text document will help delete the entire sentence at once.

Tip: To select all text on a page, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A. This will automatically select all pages of the document, even if there are a lot of them.

If you need not to delete the text, but to move it, you can use the "Copy", "Cut" and "Paste" functions. They are available in the "Clipboard" section at the top of the page or in the pop-up panel that appears when you select a text fragment. Also, functions are activated using hot keys:

  • Ctrl + C - copy;
  • Ctrl + X - cut;
  • Ctrl + V - paste.

If you need to perform many operations related to editing a text file, then using keyboard shortcuts will greatly speed up your work.

Summing up

So, the extra text in the document may appear like this:

  • WordArt object - then it is enough to select it and press Delete;
  • regular watermark - removed in the "Page Layout" section;
  • background attached to headers and footers - can be removed through the header and footer editor;
  • plain text - erased with the Delete or Backspace keys.

That's how easy you can get rid of extra text fragments. Try all the suggested options to consolidate the principle of these useful tools. Follow our Word guides and learn the program with us!

Some documents created with the Microsoft Word word processor use semi-transparent watermarks, which are usually displayed on a page with text content. By inserting a watermark (watermark) into a Word document, various functions are performed: copy protection, uniqueness, or disclaimer.

Watermarks are often installed on samples of forms, applications, instructions, and other standard documents. In some cases, the watermark serves as a vulture, or acts as an organization's logo, etc.

If a user receives such a document, then he has a logical question about how to remove watermarks in Word. He needs to remove watermarks in Word in order to use a "clean" document for his own purposes.

A document with an embedded backing may be needed to print on paper, or to perform other necessary actions: filling out a form or editing. In this case, the substrate is not needed, the watermark must be removed from the pages of the Word document.

In this guide, you will find instructions on how to remove the watermark in Word in several ways that work in versions of MS Word 2019, MS Word 2016, MS Word 2013, MS Word 2010, MS Word 2007.

How to remove watermark in Word - 1 way

Now we will analyze how to remove watermarks in Word inserted into a document in the usual way. In different versions of Word, the menu items differ in names, I will indicate the correct actions suitable for the corresponding versions of the program.

In Word 2019 word processor, do the following:

  1. In a Word document, go to the Design menu.
  2. In the Page Background group, click the Watermark button.

In Word 2016 and in Word 2013, follow these steps:

  1. In an open Word document, go to the "Design" menu.
  2. Click on the Watermark button located in the Page Background group.

In versions of Word 2010 and Word 2007, you will need to do the following:

  1. Open a Word document, go to the "Page Layout" menu.
  2. Click on the Watermark button in the Page Background group.

A menu window will open with standard templates for inserting watermarks into a document.

  1. Scroll down the open menu, in the context menu, click on the "Delete background" item.

After that, watermarks will be removed from all pages of the Word document.

How to remove a watermark from a Word document - 2 way

In some cases, a picture (image, drawing, photograph) inserted as a page background is used as a substrate. For a picture inserted on a document page through the "Insert" menu, the "text wrapping" - "behind the text" option was selected. This picture is used as a watermark and sits behind the document text.

In this case, in order to remove the watermark, you will need to proceed differently:

  1. Double-click at the top of the Word document page.
  2. This will open the Header area.
  3. Move the mouse cursor over the watermark image to select the background (the background will be highlighted with dots along the border of the image).
  4. Press the keyboard key "Delete" (Del).

  1. The watermark will be removed from the Word document page.
  2. Click the "Close Header Window" button.

Now the user can continue working with the document, which no longer has watermarks.

If the watermark was inserted into a Word file as a picture along with text, constituting one whole image, then these methods will not be able to remove it, because there is no substrate in the file. In this case, to remove the background watermark from the image, use a graphics editor such as Paint, which has the right tools: an eraser, etc.
