iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are IP67 rated. The first digit 6 indicates that the devices are dust-tight. In this case, dust cannot enter the device and complete protection against contact is ensured. 6 - the maximum level of protection of devices against dust according to the IP system.

The second digit, 7, means that the new iPhones can withstand brief immersions to depths of up to one meter. Smartphones are not supposed to work underwater. This level of protection is not the maximum. The IP system has levels 8 and 9, which provide for long-term immersion of the device to a depth of more than a meter and exposure to high temperature water jets, respectively.

Thus, all three new Apple smartphones of the 2017 model are only waterproof. They really are not afraid of falling into vessels with water, falling on them with drops or even a direct jet. However, a long stay in the water for them, no doubt, will be fatal.

Damage due to water - a warranty case?

No. If your iPhone X, iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus stops working (or one of the functions fails) as a result of contact with water, then you will have to repair the smartphone on your own. Apple declares this directly, however, for some reason, in very small print.
