The industrial city of Zhodino appeared in 1963 on the site of the town of Zhodino. It, in turn, stood on the Plisa River since 1643 thanks to Boguslav Radziwill - and was originally called Boguslav Pole. There are several naive legends about the modern name: about the prisoner of war Jordan in love, about the river from the tears of the girl Zhodinka, about the evil greedy miller, about whom they said: “grind the flour at Zhadina”.

If we turn from legends to documents, then for the first time the village of Zhodina Sloboda was mentioned in 1688. Since the 17th century, it has been part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and belongs to the magnates Radziwills. After the division of the Commonwealth, Zhodina Sloboda passes to the Russian Empire, while the city, as usual, fell under the barrage of every war. After the Second World War, they began to build the Smolevichskaya State District Power Plant and the Dormash plant, and then on its basis - the Belarusian Automobile Plant for the production of heavy vehicles, the very famous BelAZ. The city grew: each enterprise built its own residential area, and the "old city" with private buildings remained between the factories and the hydroelectric power station reservoir.
