Update - Mail app not working. Updated - Windows 10 Mail app doesn't work, calendar opens for hours

The new operating system called Windows 10 has a very wide range of new interesting features. Hidden features can make life easier for every user. It is especially worth paying attention to such a tool as the Calendar.

What is so important in the calendar

It may seem to the user - why did this calendar stand out so much that they decided to mark it separately from everything else. In fact, he doesn't matter at all. But it's much more pleasant to use the operating system with all its inherent functions, isn't it?

The calendar in Windows 10 is hidden from the eyes of ordinary users. It is not clear for what and why it was done. But in order to scratch it out of the bowels of the operating system, you will have to dig deeper into the files and folders.

This tool is a regular calendar, over which there is a clock. The panel with it is able to display on itself:

  • Time to seconds in any format, according to user preferences.
  • The exact date today.
  • Calendar for the current month of this year.
  • Alarm clocks that must be set in advance.

It is shown with the help of an ordinary mouse click on the clock in the taskbar. That is, where we are used to seeing them. If in previous versions of Windows a similar window was built in by default, then in 10-ke now it must first be activated.

The calendar has so far only a test mode. Perhaps it was because of this that it was hidden from the eyes of Windows 10 users. So far, the tool performs only one function - displaying the current time and today's date.

How to activate this feature

In order for Windows 10 to learn how to show us its calendar, we will have to write a couple of lines to the code for it. It sounds far scarier than it does.

First you need to open the registry editor. The easiest way to do this is to use the Run command. To do this, press the Win + R combination on the computer keyboard in sequence and wait for the new process to appear.

In the small window that appears with a line, enter the regedit command, after which you need to press Enter. After completing this action, a new window will appear, which will be called the Registry Editor.

In this undoubtedly useful tool, we will need to go through the following branches of the “hive” of folders and subfolders:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

As soon as you enter the target folder, you will need to create another new parameter in it. To do this, right-click on an empty white field, and then select "Create" from the menu that appears. There you will already have to look for the desired parameter, which will be called DWORD (32 bits). Its detailed location is indicated in the screenshot under number 1.

The name of such a parameter should be the same as indicated in the screenshot under the number 2. It is it that is responsible for using the new beautiful clock and calendar in Windows 10.

After saving a fresh file, you can safely close the editor and admire your new Calendar application. It will not disappear anywhere as long as this parameter exists.

In Windows 10, Mail, as you know, works together with Calendar, and together they seem to “help you keep track of your mail (not only in Windows, but also in Exchange, Outlook, etc.), manage your schedule and stay in touch with people who are important to you...

In general, it works mail good, but it also happens that it is also buggy (not synchronized, for example). Moreover, sometimes it’s completely tight, and in order to quickly and reliably fix the problem, the easiest way is to take and reinstall the entire application, that is, first delete it, and then download and install it again.

And everything would be fine, but in Mail and Calendar- this is the so-called built-in application, therefore there is no separate "Delete" button for it. Therefore, it is necessary to apply, so to speak, a detour maneuver.

Fortunately, in Windows 10 there is such a thing as PowerShell, through which (more precisely, through a special command in which) you can “demolish” Mail and Calendar, both temporarily and permanently. And now we will tell you how to do it. So,..

How to uninstall the built-in Mail and Calendar app from Windows 10

So, to begin with, we note a couple of important points. Firstly , it makes sense to use this method when either reinstalling Mail in the usual way fails (the button does not work), or it becomes necessary to remove the application completely.

BUT Secondly , if you delete Mail , then the Calendar is deleted automatically. With this, there are no options, therefore, before deleting / reinstalling Mail, it is better to backup all data from both Mail and Calendar (just in case).

The procedure for uninstalling the Mail app using PowerShell is as follows:

  • click " Start «;
  • find through search Windows PowerShell , right-click on the icon and select " Run as Administrator «;
  • In the PowerShell window, enter the following command, then press Enter:
Get-AppxPackageMicrosoft.windowscommunicationsapps | Remove-AppxPackage
  • after that, the Mail and Calendar application will be completely removed from the computer (and from Windows 10):

Then you can use any of those compatible with Windows 10. Or put the standard Mail in a new way. You can always download and install it from the Microsoft Store. To do this, just go to the application page"Mail and Calendar" on the Microsoft Store website, click the " Get the app " and then - " Install «.
