Sony xperia z5 dual black. Smartphones Sony Xperia Z5 series

Flagship smartphones are expensive toys. But people willingly buy them even in times of crisis! After all, the flagship is not only pumped by the most advanced technologies, which will delight you for more than one year, but also carries a powerful image charge. It is the flagship smartphone that will declare your success louder than any words. Why should someone prove something if you put on a table in a restaurant Sony Xperia Z5? We'll talk about him.

Design and sense of unity

The design of the Sony Xperia Z5 is minimalist. It's just a thin, rectangular smartphone. But let's take a closer look at the details. The smartphone is Japanese, and it is designed in the aesthetics of "great in small".

The matte edges of the case are made of aluminum, which does not show itself in any way. They pleasantly cool the palm, and one of them is decorated with XPERIA engraving.

The back panel is covered with Frosted Glass. It's also matte, so it doesn't pick up fingerprints and is always clean.

The corners of the smartphone are plastic - if the device fell, they will protect its electronic components from damage, extinguishing the impact energy.

Housing Sony Xperia Z5 sealed (standard IP68) - he is not afraid of rain or sandstorm. However, Sony does not recommend submerging the smartphone under water.

All buttons are placed on right side. The power button is no longer round and protruding, like previous generations of the flagship. It is elongated, organically integrated into the body and has a built-in fingerprint sensor that recognizes you in the blink of an eye and unlocks your smartphone. A little lower is the volume rocker. You need to get used to it, because usually it is placed on top. And at the very bottom - a separate camera button.

When you hold a smartphone in your hand, you feel solidity. When you look closely, you see jewelry work. Sony called this design Sense of Unity - "Feeling of unity." Yes, there is something to pay money for!

Flawless Screen

The screen diagonal is large - 5.2 inches. However, due to the narrow frames, the smartphone did not become a “shovel”. Full HD resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels, pixel density 424 ppi. Image quality is awesome!

Due to the absence of an air gap between the display and the touch layer, it seems that the image is glued to the glass. And it's impressive! By the way, the sensor responds to touch, even if you are wearing gloves.

Enough performance for several

"Stuffing" Sony Xperia Z5 flagship in the truest sense of the word. The Snapdragon 810 is Qualcomm's most powerful processor to date. We have already met with him when we considered HTC smartphone One M9. Tasks that would be beyond the power of Snapdragon 810 with 3 GB random access memory Plus, just no. Such resources will last for several years to come. However, this medal has a flip side.

The Snapdragon 810 gets warm, so the Sony Xperia Z5 is always a little warm, and if you play demanding 3D games, it can even get hot. This does not affect the stability of work and performance, so it's okay.

Note that with such an impressive performance, the Sony Xperia Z5 can easily work for two days without recharging. If you use the Ultra Stamina power saving feature, which turns off Wi-Fi and mobile network, then you can count on 10 days! Not bad?

Built-in memory 32 GB. Given that the flagship is a sin not to fill to the eyeballs with a dozen "heavy" applications and the ability to record 4K video, this is not so much. Problem? Not! By purchasing a microSD card, you can expand the storage up to 200 GB.

The world's best mobile camera

Sony is one of the few on the market that produces its own photomodules, not only for its own smartphones, but also for strangers. Therefore, from Sony's flagship we have the right to expect the coolest camera. And we got it!

The expert photo resource DxO Mark recognized the Sony Xperia Z5 camera as the best for the fall of 2015 among other "telephone" cameras.

The Sony Xperia Z5 has a 23-megapixel matrix with hybrid autofocus. The latter combines the speed of phase detection autofocus with the accuracy of contrast. In fact, the camera focuses incredibly quickly (Sony calls the figure 0.03 seconds), and never misses. Even at night, you can take a sharp macro shot of a leaf that sways in the wind. Phenomenal!

Shooting in low light is the forte of the Sony Xperia Z5 camera. The high-sensitivity Exmor RS sensor with a separate Bionz image processor delivers extremely clear photos with low digital noise. In the daytime, the pictures are even more flawless.

The Sony Xperia Z5 can shoot ultra-high definition 4K video with autofocus and Steady Shot image stabilization. The processor power, by the way, is enough not only for shooting, but also for editing and processing such a video.

As for the front camera, here Sony for some reason was greedy and installed a 5-megapixel matrix. The wide-angle 23mm optics allows you to capture large companies, which is good. However, in low light, the effect of the noise reduction function is noticeable in the photo - the details are somewhat blurred.

Two SIM cards and LTE support

We have a modification of the Sony Xperia Z5 Dual in our hands. The smartphone supports two SIM-cards, and each slot works in an LTE network. It may seem strange, but for a flagship such a feature is a luxury. Few manufacturers produce versions with two SIM cards. And oh, how useful!

Two SIM cards is an opportunity to be a subscriber of two operators at once and not depend on the quality of coverage of one. Are you familiar with the situation when in the same place one operator has one stick, and the other has everything, and even the LTE icon is lit? That's it!

In addition, the Sony Xperia Z5 has NFC chip. Connecting other devices via NFC is not so interesting, but using a chip to pay for purchases or pass the subway is another matter.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS / GLONASS in the Sony Xperia Z5, of course, there is!

Sony Xperia Z5 is an exquisite luxury and uncompromising quality! Loudly said? Not at all. The updated design of Sense of Unity in the best traditions of Japanese aesthetics, the quality of materials and their finishes, impeccable assembly and design, in which every detail is thought out, right down to the protective corners, a sealed case ... We declare: taking the Sony Xperia Z5 in your hand, you will not be too something you want to know about its performance. She, of course, is on top, because this is the flagship! The camera does not raise any questions. You won't be able to find something better. Features such as the volume rocker located too low and the average front camera do not spoil the overall impression of the smartphone.

"Don't rock our boat!" - Sony engineers and designers send a harsh message to lovers of change with the release of the next flagship of the Z line. The Xperia Z5 smartphone - like Daniel Craig in the role of "007" - from film to film is strict, reliable, like a rock, invulnerable and therefore ... a little boring ...

Design and Features

Each manufacturer that has been releasing a line of its own flagships under “numbered” names for several years is faced with a choice. You can treat the consumer with surprises, like Samsung - S5 was plastic, waterproof, with a replaceable battery and a slot for cards, and S6 became a glass sandwich, afraid of everything in the world, without the ability for the user to influence the memory and battery ... Truly a surprise ... You can, how Sony, take the second path - their flagships of the "Z" line demonstrate so high level design stability and consumer qualities that manage to annoy even loyal fans with this. Sometimes the predecessor and successor are so similar inside and out that it is extremely difficult to understand the purpose of the generational change... One way or another, we have the Z5 in a dual-sim version - another bucket of oil on the souls of traditionalists who love the Z line precisely for its constancy in design and properties!

The Z5's chassis evokes a sense of confidence and reliability, with an aluminum frame engraved with "Xperia" and covered top and bottom with scratch- and grease-resistant screen and back glass. The device is strong, monolithic, not subject to twisting, although it is afraid of falling on a corner or glass planes, like all its relatives.

The layout of the keys is traditional. Under the thumb of the right hand there is a power button (large, not an aluminum “pimple”, as before), muffledly clicking with a delicious sound with a pleasant tactile feedback. Beneath it are a volume rocker and a two-stage camera button. The left side is empty, on the top there is a headphone jack, on the bottom there is a charging socket (fortunately, not a newfangled type C!) and, attention ... a hole for a rope :) ! Lovers of tradition can rest easy - the Xperia Z5 is still the only flagship smartphone from the first-tier manufacturing community that still has the ability to be worn on a neck strap!

The cover of the only compartment hides slots for a memory card and two SIM cards. Both SIM cards are installed in one slot - on a common drawer.

And most importantly, the device is still waterproof, for which, in fact, many appreciate the flagships of the Z line!

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual:: Overview:: Display

I love the high brightness of the display, and when I turned on the Xperia Z5 for the first time and adjusted it to the maximum, I was unpleasantly surprised - has Sony really returned its smartphone line to two-year-old displays - dull and dull?! Ugh, damn - just in the usual place on the menu quick settings there is no light sensor activation checkbox - it is available only in the settings menu in the "Display" section. The sensor was active by default, turning it off and turning the brightness control to the maximum, I was amazed again, this time pleasantly - I have not seen such a high screen brightness in gadgets for a long time! Direct sunlight significantly less impairs the readability of the Z5 display compared to many expensive smartphones, and displaying a white picture on the screen (at least empty window in the browser), you can make a very powerful flashlight from the Z5!

I remember that in 2012 I tested the LG Prada smartphone, which at that time was declared as the brightest in the world - its brightness was 800 nits (a nit is a unit of brightness equal to one candela per square meter). The Xperia Z5 has a claimed brightness of 700 nits, which is a very good indicator. And, of course, no one obliges the owner to use this resource to the fullest, burning the battery - the maximum brightness is only relevant outdoors on a sunny day.

Among other interesting things, the display has the ability to wake up with a double touch, enable increased sensitivity for operation with gloves, and adjust the color balance to your preferences.

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual:: Overview:: Fingerprint

Actually, this option has been present on a number of phones for more than a year, so it may seem strange to give it a separate chapter in the Z5 review. However, for Sony this is an innovation, before there was no such feature in any smartphone of the Xperia family ... However, if it were implemented like Samsung, it was hardly worth paying such close attention to it, but the fingerprint scanner in the Z5 was made very unusual and interesting - in the thin SIDE release key, on which the finger rests comfortably and automatically.

Underscreen button samsung galaxy and iPhone, LG V10 button and ring sensor Google Nexus 5 located on back covers- all of them require either not the most natural, or frankly unnecessary movements. The button on the Z5 is much more logical - on it the finger turns out by itself, performing with one click both waking up the phone and unlocking it.

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual:: Overview:: Camera

The device has a camera module with a 1/2.3-inch matrix, 23 megapixel resolution, f/2.0. The camera has a so-called hybrid autofocus with a focusing speed of 0.03 s and SteadyShot stabilization - but this is not optical stabilization, but electronic.

The main camera menu control is a switch of 4 icons - the main modes, located along the right edge of the screen.

1 - Super Auto Mode (Basic, Intelligent Auto)
2- Camera applications (panorama, combination of images from the main and front cameras in one frame, 4K video, slow motion video, animation overlay AR effect, etc.)
3- Manual mode
4- Video shooting

The Z5's hybrid autofocus uses a combination of phase and contrast focusing principles. It is stated that the camera focuses in 0.03 seconds, but in practice it was not possible to feel a noticeable difference in focusing speed - everything is subjective, like in other flagships ...

At the maximum resolution (23 megapixels, 5520x4140 pixels), the camera takes a "square" frame in a 4x3 ratio. Therefore, all test shots were taken in a 16x9 widescreen version - the maximum available resolution for it is 20 MP. Actually, due to the fact that shooting with a “square” is unlikely to interest many, the number of megapixels, in fact, remained the same as the early predecessors of the Z line, which had 20.7 megapixel matrices.

I must say, the Z5 camera left an ambiguous impression. The main advantage of top-class smartphone cameras is the speed of focusing and burst shooting, according to which they have long overtaken camera cameras - “soap dishes” - I remember that the Xperia Z3 delighted me with the rapid autofocus speed, which allows you to cheerfully shoot moving people with virtually no blurring. That's just since the days of Z3, the quality of images of this kind has not actually improved. It is not bad, but even without complaints about the lack of optical stabilization, I would like to see at least some tangible progress ...

Close-up:

The device has a physical two-stage shutter button. Why it is not very clear ... As already mentioned, the speed of processing data from cameras in flagship smartphones in the last couple of years is so great that they no longer need to be pre-focused, as it was before - holding the on-screen button before shutter release or double tap a physical button… Let's say, the Galaxy S6хх line of devices shoots with excellent focus on one touch of the screen or pressing the volume button - why does the Z5 have an archaic double-action button ?! Actually, checking the button in practice showed that it does not give anything sensible ... Shooting in dynamics with it slows down - you can shoot moving objects only using the instant on-screen button or the volume button in shutter mode. The latter, by the way, is much more convenient in terms of holding the camera, if you are doing a “reporter's” shooting without advertising.

One way or another, but the main reproach to the Z5 camera is the lack of optical OIS stabilization. And this is a reproach from the category of regular - no longer to the first Z-flagship. Megapixels grow, their size decreases, susceptibility to smearing fluctuations increases ... Why does OIS stubbornly not appear in Xperia Z? Perhaps because on the example of competing camera phones, such as the Galaxy S6, Lumia 950, Huawei Nexus 6P and most others, it is clear that in order to introduce optical stabilization, the camera module has to be made thicker - either separately or at the same time thickening the body as a whole. In this case, the design of the THIN "sandwich" Xperia Z of two identical sheets of glass will undergo changes. This is likely to give engineers and designers headaches when it comes to waterproofing, which is why Sony can't decide...

Frame scaling examples from Sony Xperia Z5 and Samsung Galaxy S6. Due to the lack of OIS, a light “soap” and an excess of contrast caused by the processing algorithm are clearly visible on the Z5 images.

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual:: Overview:: Performance and Nutrition

The device is built on a powerful chipset Snapdragon 810 - MSM8994. This is a 64-bit 8-core (4 ARM Cortex-A57 2.0 GHz cores + 4 ARM Cortex-A53 1.5 GHz cores) processor with an Adreno 430 video core. The very “hot Qualcomm”. In benchmarks, he is not among the top ten, which, however, does not prevent him from having a highly decent performance - especially considering that many of those who are ahead of him often have the same hardware ... (Yes, you yourself understand - Chinese smartphone manufacturers are much closer and dearer in every sense to the most popular developer of the "parrot-meter" AnTuTu - the Chinese one, yeah ...)

The gadget is really very productive and powerful, but the thermal mode of the device requires a separate discussion. The device heats up very much - running something resource-intensive, you can wear it in severe frost in mittens, warming your hands! The Xperia Z5 successfully competes in this sense with the GK-1 catalytic gasoline heating pad, popular with fishermen and tourists… Everything would be fine, but warming up the processor noticeably affects its performance. Here are the results of the popular benchmark, conducted three times in a row without pauses - for comparison, screenshots of the Samsung Galaxy S6, where the same three-time procedure reduces performance much less noticeably:

Let's conduct a simple and visual test, which I traditionally use to compare battery efficiency - charge the battery to 100%, reboot the device to clear the memory of clogging programs, turn off all wireless interfaces, except for cellular communications, set the screen brightness and volume to maximum. Launching the movie AVI format, lasting 1 hour 23 minutes and weighing 1.45 GB. After the movie ends, we look at the remaining battery charge.

77%. Not enough ... It’s enough for a day and a half, but this essentially means one day, since hardly anyone wants to look for an outlet for tomorrow by lunchtime.

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual:: Overview:: Conclusions

At the time of the review, the cost of the Z5 Dual was almost 45,000 rubles. The amount, I must say, is serious - especially against the background of the economic downturn. And you need to consider this amount, of course, not spherically in a vacuum, but in comparison, because the status of Sony's flagship has long ceased to provide the smartphone of the Z line with its own designation ... For example, for 40-42 thousand you can buy a two-SIM Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos - it will not have moisture protection, but it will have twice as much flash memory. For 38-40 thousand for lovers of experiments, there is an option to try to get in person Meizu Pro 5 and the “best from everywhere” - a processor and AMOLED from the Galaxy S6, a 21-megapixel camera from the same Sony, as many as 4 gigabytes of RAM, 64 memory, and at the same time more anti-twist “parrots” and a more capacious battery ... In general, it is obvious that the main strategic advantage of the Sony flagship is still the ability to swim, which no other flagship of its competitors has been able to do so far. This, of course, is a lot in itself, this is more than enough for regular fans of the brand, but is it not enough to attract new ones?..

    very nice design and tactile sensations. there is a place for attaching a cord, where the phone can be hung around the neck. the battery charges fairly quickly.

    Good camera, two sim card slots

    Quick. Bright. Nice body. Gets Wi-Fi instantly. The call is loud. The speakers and microphone are of good quality. A good camera - both photos and videos. Video in 1080/60 format is generally gorgeous in quality - clear, juicy, no lags or sagging. It holds a charge for a long time if you use it only for talking.

    A good camera, with good lighting in general, clear pictures are obtained.

    I've been a Sony fan since the days of feature phones. However, this was last phone which I bought from this manufacturer. I never write any reviews, but this is really hot. The phone was bought in the fall of 2016 with the hope that it will last 3-5 years at least. At that time, it cost 37,000 rubles. And at that time everything suited, the shortcomings began to emerge later.

    Big screen, 2 SIM cards, bright display

    A month after the purchase, the corners began to fall off, after another 3 months it started rebooting by itself and in the middle the screen stopped working, and after another 3 months the screen began to peel off, the battery is not enough even for a third of a day. The phone is terrible

    Almost immediately, the plastic corners of the frame flew off. the phone looks a bit messy. the battery drains quickly. disappointing that the version of Android is not the latest. suddenly ("by itself") the rear window cracked

    The case is heated, active work/game runs out of power very quickly

    Heats up under any load. It heats up instantly - to the point that it hurts to hold it. Video in normal quality - you can’t shoot for more than five minutes - cuts off from overheating. The battery lands very quickly under any serious load. The power key is hidden flush in the body and is not as easy to find as the previous models. The connector for connecting the docking station has disappeared. Once a week it hangs tight.

    It heats up during prolonged use on the Internet, the camera does not shoot very well in the dark.

    I had to do a master reset several times already. There was a glitch that Speakerphone turned on by itself, there were still some glitches. Now for the points. 1. Often reboots itself. 2. A year later, some kind of stain appeared on the camera, which is why good photos you can forget. Everything is in a fog, everything is blurry. 3. The flashlight is very weak. So much so that it's almost useless. 4. Terribly buggy phone. Either one or the other bugs pop up. 5. Strongly heated. Sometimes for no apparent reason, and at such moments the battery is discharged right before our eyes. 6. The location of the buttons is not convenient. In particular, you constantly touch the camera key with your fingers during the process of photographing, which turns on the focus mode, and because of this it is unrealistic to take a photo. Do not use this button

Mobile sony phone Xperia Z5 Dual (black)

STOP, INSTANT, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL

With the Sony Xperia Z5 Dual, you'll never miss a great shot. Equipped with a superb camera and hybrid autofocus, this smart phone will amaze you with fast and clear shooting. And with a 23MP sensor and 5x zoom, you can capture even the most fleeting moments - clearly and on the first try.

HYBRID AUTOFOCUS

The Sony Xperia Z5 Dual camera has ultra-fast autofocus (0.03 sec.), which is achieved through a combination of contrast and phase focusing technologies. The first is responsible for accuracy, and the second for speed. Focus points are located throughout the viewfinder, so you can focus on your subject anywhere in the frame in less than a second.

HIGH CLEAR ZOOM

With 5x zoom, you can get closer to your subject without sacrificing image quality. This is made possible by a powerful sensor, lens and Sony's exclusive Clear Image technology. To enlarge the picture up to 5 times, just swipe your fingers across the screen in different directions. Even in an enlarged view, the image will be clear and detailed, and the usual scaling noise will not appear.

DARKNESS IS NOT A HINDER

Xperia Z5 Dual will help you capture the unique magic of the night in your pictures. It uses a new generation of photosensitive Exmor RS CMOS sensor, which ensures that your photos will always be bright and free of color noise. And with special backlight technology and advanced image processing, even in low-light conditions, pictures will be clear and detailed.

BEAUTY TO THE TOUCH

Sony Xperia Z5 Dual is a pleasure to hold. Engraved metal frame, smooth, simple shapes and back panel frosted glass draws the eye.

IT DOES NOT EVEN RAIN

If you've been caught in the rain, accidentally dropped your smartphone in the sink, or spilled coffee on it, don't despair - the Xperia Z5 Dual is waterproof and IP68 rated. He does not care for such troubles.

A SMARTPHONE THAT KNOWS ITS OWNER

The power button on the Sony Xperia Z5 Dual has a built-in fingerprint reader. The button itself is located on the side of the smartphone so that you can quickly, in one motion, unlock the screen.

DO MORE

One charge of Xperia Z5 Dual lasts up to two days of work. This means you can listen to your favorite music and chat with friends for even longer without having to think about charger. If this is not enough, a device for fast charging: after 45 minutes, the battery will have energy for many hours of operation.

Design, construction

I was given a silver device for testing, here you can see all the updates to the design code of the current flagship line - the color of the splash screen matches the color of the body, minimalism, matte material, and the smartphone almost always looks neat and clean. The recognizable button was replaced by a fingerprint sensor, Xperia engraving on the bottom left, above the screen and below - speaker strips, and quite loud, this applies to both conversational and regular ones. The ends are metal, with damping inserts, upon impact, the energy does not spread throughout the body, but only in one area, this has a positive effect on the survivability of the smartphone. There are no films here, the front of the display covers the glass, the back - the glass, polished in a special way, looks very cool.

Only four colors: black, gold, green and gray, as in the review. If I decided to buy a Z5, I would choose either green or gold - black and silver smartphones are already tired.

On the other hand, I advise everyone to pay attention to black too, it was made matte, it looks cool. As a fan of sonystyle, I can't help but notice that the current flagship line looks much more interesting than the previous one. All the best Sony finds of recent years are embodied here. The microUSB and 3.5 mm connectors are devoid of plugs, so you don’t have to constantly pull them, while there is water protection, Sony will talk less about this now (to avoid problems), but rain will not disable the device.

The traditional groove for attaching the strap has been preserved, the buttons are very well made, they are pressed moderately soft, moderately elastic - the camera button will help you quickly take a picture if you see something interesting on the street. Button behavior can be customized.

One plug on the left, it contains a panel with cutouts for a SIM card and a memory card. A convenient solution, the main thing is to pick up the edge of this panel and pull it out. NanoSIM cards, if you have a "micro", I recommend not to circumcise, but to get new card at the operator. Memory cards of any possible capacity are supported, this allows you to seriously increase the memory of the device. When you install the card in the "Camera" offer to choose where to save pictures.

Here is what is written on the official website about water protection, I think everyone who is going to buy a smartphone needs to know this information:

“The Xperia Z5 is water and dust resistant, making it resistant to heavy rain or faucet washing (but keep all ports and covers firmly closed when doing so). The device must not be completely submerged under water or exposed to sea water, salt water, chlorinated water, or liquids such as alcoholic beverages. Incorrect or inappropriate use of the device will void the warranty. The device has been assigned an IP65/68 protection class. Please note that the Xperia Z5 has a USB charging port for connecting to other devices, which is not closed by a cover. If the smartphone has been exposed to water, charge it only after the USB port is completely dry."

That is, it is better not to shoot underwater.

By the way, the sides on the back protrude a little, this is done in order to raise the glass above the table. Contrary to the reviews, I did not feel that the sides strongly crashed into the palm, there was no discomfort.

Display

The diagonal of the IPS display is 5.2 inches, the resolution is FullHD, a number of proprietary technologies are supported, these are TRILUMINOS and X-Reality Engine. Here is what they write on the official website:

  • X-Reality technology for mobile devices analyzes every image on the screen and optimizes colors, sharpness and contrast. As a result, you get photos and videos with the highest detail and low noise.
  • The TRILUMINOS Display and Live Color LED technology provide the widest color palette with vibrant reds, natural greens and blues.

The display settings allow you to change the look of the clock on the lock screen, select system icons for the status bar, enable the image enhancement indicated above, X-reality, maximum brightness mode or turn off all enhancements, there is a “glove mode” that will also help you use your smartphone under rain or snow. There is an adaptive backlight adjustment, a white balance setting too, I tried to adjust it for myself, and I stayed at the usual settings. So it is most convenient, the eyes do not hurt. All other functions are familiar. If you have vision problems, you can choose the font size. The typical Sony feature that allows you to wake your smartphone from sleep mode by tapping the screen twice works here. Two taps, the screen lights up, it always works, it's very convenient when the Z5 is in a cradle or lying on a table. The "backlight control" function is quite interesting: when the device is in your hands, the backlight works, when you put the device on the table, the screen turns off.

I can’t say anything special about the display with all my desire - a completely normal screen for a modern smartphone.

Fingerprint sensor

On serial devices, the sensor works in the same way as on prototypes, there are no complaints. The corresponding section appears in the "Security" menu, where you can bind up to five fingerprints to the sensor. The process itself is simple: put your finger several times until the scale is full, everything is similar to others similar systems. Then you specify what exactly the sensor will do, and you start using it. I like that unlocking takes a fraction of a second, put your finger on and you immediately find yourself on the desktop, without graphic keys and other nonsense. I note that you don’t even need to press the button, just put your finger on it. There were practically no erroneous positives - if there were, it was more likely due to my fault.

All flagship Sony smartphones have a scanner with a button, so this chapter is identical for the Sony Xperia Z5, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

Here I will tell you about one interesting incident, maybe it will be useful for the owners of smart watches and other accessories. One fine Saturday evening in October, I was sitting with friends in a restaurant and having fun, not paying attention to the phone. When there was a pause in the conversation, I took a look at the mail. Received a letter from a reader. He wrote this:

"Good evening. I found a minus with a print. You can unlock your phone with another finger. How will Sony react to this? At first, I put the phone down. Then, thinking, took and wrote the answer.

Hello, how is this possible?

The man answered quickly, obviously the problem excited him.

Don't know. Sat casually played. And found. Tried to rewrite software update, but left. Tomorrow I'll go and try on another device.

Write, please, what will be the results of the check.

On this we parted, but in the morning the correspondence was continued.

Hello. Changed phone and same thing. Where it is interesting to write. This is a minus for Sony. What should I do? I always look at phone reviews on your site. What's next?

How exactly does everything happen?

A reader sent me a video, I will not show it here - after all, personal data and all that. The phone has one fingerprint, for the thumb. Alex, that's our reader's name, presses several times with another finger, for example, with the index finger, and unlocking occurs. To be honest, I got scared. Did Sony make a bad sensor? Is this a massive bug? Forwarded the video and our correspondence to colleagues at Sony. I must say that Alex lives in England, he talked to technical support, talked in the salon, no one helped him there, so I started to worry - after all, if it was some kind of trick, the specialists would certainly help, right?

After a couple of hours, a response came from Sony:

“This situation is normal. The user has it enabled smart function Lock, which allows you to unlock the phone when connected to some accessory, which is, as it were, authorization for access.

In this case, he has a Pebble watch in this role. When the Smart Lock function is enabled, the lock icon on the lock screen is circled, and in principle, you can get into the phone not just by using the wrong finger, but simply by swiping the screen.

The function is located along this path: Settings - Security - Smart Lock.

And just five minutes later, a letter came from Alex: “The problem was, I hope, in the smart lock. Just smart on me PEBBLE watch and I entered them as TRUSTED. Therefore, it worked. Now turned off. Let's see. While everything is fine, the other finger does not work.

Phew. You can breathe out. Two conclusions can be drawn from this story. First - you need to learn the materiel - this is the first time I've heard about Smart Lock. It is strange that Sony technical support could not deal with the problem, especially since there is a hint here, a lock in a circle. The second conclusion is that if you are already making a fingerprint, then turn off Smart Lock. Otherwise, what is the use of protection? A colleague will be able to calmly take the phone, unlock it, look at pictures or something else and put the device back.

The original note and a short discussion were in our Android section, check back often.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor is used, as you know, this is a rather “warm” solution, so I went to visit my friend, the owner of an infrared thermometer. It was interesting to see what the heat is in numbers - in fact, heat is well felt when shooting video, not only in 4K, but also when shooting a simple video. So, I used the method described by colleagues from Androidcentral. If you turn on shooting in 4K and leave the camera, well, or insert it into a tripod, the temperature of the back cover reaches forty degrees, that is, it is very hot. And even when you start shooting video in 4K, there is a warning about a possible increase in temperature.

If you do not shoot video and just use your smartphone, write SMS, use the browser and other normal tasks, the cover in the area of the NFC module becomes warm, but nothing more. The moment associated with heating must be taken into account, but it is hardly worth being scared.

You can read more about the processor and. The rest of the features are: 3 GB of RAM (Z5 Compact has 2 GB of memory), 32 GB of internal memory, a microSD slot, there is support for LTE. Android Version 5.1.1. Adreno 430 is responsible for graphics, wireless interfaces are Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11n/ac. Let me remind you once again that the Z5 and Z5 Premium will have two SIM cards with LTE, the “compact” has only a version with one SIM card.

We talked with representatives of the company that it would be nice to get a version with 64 GB of memory - you know, sometimes even best cards memory behave strangely and this affects the work of applications installed on microSD. Until Sony changes anything, learn to use the built-in 32 GB correctly and buy normal memory cards. Although it pleases - no loss of rights.

Finally - screenshots from Antutu. They say that if you run them several times in a row, the results worsen, here are the results of the first test.

Peculiarities

A little about other features of the smartphone:

  • It supports work in tandem with PS4, in other words, Xperia turns into a screen, pick up a joystick and play. Considering the diagonal of the display, it is better not to do this on the “compact”. And on Premium it is quite possible to play some simple games, which is what I do.
  • Old accessories are supported - I mean, from other Z series smartphones with a five-pin connector. A noise canceling headset and microphone will work just fine.

  • The new Sony MDR-NC750 headset has been announced, there is noise reduction, and the built-in microphones can also be used when shooting video, which (they say) allows you to record sound with unprecedented quality. Haven't checked yet. The function only works with the Z5 family. The test will be posted soon.

  • Much less pre-installed software garbage, this is also noticeable. One screen less.

  • As before, there is support for mini-applications, click on the select button open applications, a list is displayed below, you can download something else in addition. There is a calculator, a timer, a browser, a screenshot, a calendar, a mini-player, there is even a mirror - the front camera turns on, you can quickly check the condition of the face.
  • Sony-style player, sound quality is good, I tried it with different headphones. The device supports high-resolution sound out of the box, LPCM, FLAC, ALAC, DSD formats, there is ClearAudio +, the LDAC codec is supported - music transfer via Bluetooth to maximum quality, you just need headphones that support the same codec. So far, only Sony has it, the Sony MDR-1ABT model. In general, in terms of music, the Z5 line may be interesting for music lovers, since there is no need to install additional players in order to listen to the same FLAC files. Add an amplifier to the Z5, good headphones, play around with the software, and you have a beginner audiophile kit.

  • Bluetooth 4.1 is used, the ANT + profile is supported for use with sports equipment, there is NFC, DLNA, Wi-Fi MIMO, MHL 3.0. Using an MHL cable, you can connect the Z5 to a TV and use it to play video (for example).

cameras

The front camera is 5 MP, wide-angle optics are used, taking selfies is a pleasure. Of course, if you love this genre. The main camera is 23 MP, from what you definitely need to know before buying - it has really, really fast autofocus. The second point is related to optical magnification. Look at the photo of the Kremlin, taken from the bridge, here is where the magnification was used. It can be seen that the program tried to paint on the picture, it looks good on the smartphone screen, artifacts are noticeable on the laptop screen. In general, I don’t advise you to use the increase in smartphones, I don’t advise you to do this for the Z5 either, in extreme cases it’s possible, but you can rely heavily on good result not worth it.

Photo examples

Overall impression is what matters. It's much easier to get a good shot now with the Z5 series, especially compared to the Z3. If the hand does not tremble, the pictures are very high quality: razor-sharp clarity, natural colors, even with not the best lighting, you can count on a good result. Shooting 4K videos is hardly a strong marketing advantage, especially given how quickly your smartphone heats up, but you can also shoot such videos and then watch them on a 4K TV. Or watch it on your smartphone screen. I hope that this year we will also do a comparative test of the cameras of modern flagships, let's see who wins.

Don't forget, there will still be tests of the small Z5 and Z5 Premium on the site, so there will be more shots so that you can draw your own conclusions about the device's camera.

Finally, a little about the modes of operation:

  • Super auto mode, the most simple and comfortable for any user;
  • Manually, here you can select the maximum resolution, set the ISO and other parameters;
  • AR effect, something like augmented reality, when masks appear on people in the lens, dinosaurs, gnomes and so on walk around, the device heats up very much, but copes with the task quite quickly;
  • 4K video, everything is clear, the video is at the maximum resolution, all my videos were shot in bad weather, waiting for the sun to show you a good example. Looks great on a smartphone screen;
  • AR mask, very strange selfie;
  • Portrait in style, another selfie mode;
  • Artistic effect, everything is clear here, filters;
  • panoramic view;
  • Create stickers from photos;
  • Timeshift video, slow motion effects;
  • Inserting a face into an image;
  • Multicamera, recording the same scene from different angles on the same screen;
  • Taking photos and recording sound.

You can download additional effects, applications for the camera, found Vine from interesting things, short videos, Evernote, everything is clear with this.

Working hours

A 2900 mAh battery is installed, QuickCharge 2.0 fast charging technology is supported, after charging for 45 minutes, the smartphone can supposedly work all day. Naturally, it all depends on your particular use. Sony claims two days of work for the Z5 line, but that's a bit far-fetched. If you shoot video in 4K on the Z5, the battery will run out very quickly. Here we must say this: in theory, smartphones of the Z5 line can work for two days. In practice, it all depends on you.

Familiar power saving modes are supported.

The power supply in the kit will be different, it does not support QuickCharge - you will need to buy such a PSU separately. I want to remind you that I tested the UCH-10, a power supply with QuickCharge support, you can read.

conclusions

There are no questions about conversational dynamics. Sound in HD is supported, I really like this feature, the interlocutor seems to be standing nearby. You quickly get used to good things. There are no questions about the quality of the connection, vibration in the pocket is felt, the usual speaker is not too loud - it does not yell, in a noisy place it is easy to miss a call or notification.

In official retail, the device costs 49,990 rubles, this applies to both the version with one and two SIM cards, I would immediately buy DualSIM, at least just in case. I suggest you decide on the color yourself, silver seems to me the most practical, prints on white are not so noticeable.

What I liked:

  • Assembly, device design. From smartphones to Android based I absolutely love three devices, the Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE+, the Blackberry Priv and the whole new Z5 line. What is "mini", what is Premium, what is a regular smartphone look great. Just a pleasure to pick up and use every day. Protection from water is conditional here, keep this in mind;
  • The camera will probably still be finished, but even now it shoots more interesting than its predecessor;
  • Well made fingerprint sensor
  • Advanced musical features;
  • There is a slot for memory cards;
  • Minimum extra software;
  • The absence of any shell;
  • Good working hours offline;
  • Interesting accessories, work with PS4.

What did not like:

  • CPU heating and related incidents - for example, the camera may be closed at the most inopportune moment;
  • No headset included;
  • I would recommend Sony to pay more attention to the dynamics of the smartphone, to see how it is done on other devices - at least on the iPhone;
  • The screen will not please those who have dealt with others modern smartphones;
  • Not wireless charging, although many are already accustomed to such a function.

What else interesting things can be bought for this money?

  • iPhone 6S, the memory depends on the version of the smartphone - if you buy an American, you can take 64 GB;
  • Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE, version with 32 GB of memory costs comparable money.

Reviews of these smartphones are on the site, I recommend that you read it. It makes no sense to list other devices, consumers in Russia have the highest level of knowledge and respect for the Sony brand, so you can safely put the Z5 and Apple and Samsung products in line. What exactly to choose is up to you. I will only note that the iPhone still cannot be thrown out of the comparison - the price is painfully similar. Another OS, another world, but maybe someone just decides to try? As for Samsung, there is a space design, good materials, a good camera, but the shell can scare you away. As well as the inability to increase memory. By the way, I won’t advise anyone to buy an iPhone 6S with 16 GB of memory either, at least you need a version with 64 GB.

And, if you looked at the price of the Z5 with sarcasm, now, remembering the features of other modern flagships, you will no longer be so categorical, right? It's good when there is a curved screen, but even better when there are more than a hundred gigs of memory. Here you can choose what is more important.

Today's prices are very surprising, so I wouldn't be surprised if consumers now rake out the Z3 and Z3 + and bypass the flagships. Expensive. While very expensive. Sony will show the next flagship in 2016, most likely it will happen at IFA next September. It may well be that we will see a phablet based on the Z5 and a tablet made on the same platform.

I personally like the updated line very much. If you are looking for the best smartphone to use for several years, be sure to include the Z5 in the comparison.
