2. Faults.

The first common problem is when you move the mouse and the cursor stays in place, jerks, or you have to move the mouse several times to move the cursor. Such a malfunction manifests itself when the USB cable frays at the entrance to the mouse body from repeated bending of the wire.

To make it convenient to work, we remove the board from the case. To do this, you need to bend the two latches that secure the board from behind.
We remove the upper insulation of the cable, and clean the ends of the cores. Who has a soldering iron, the ends lived.

Now we connect all the veins of both ends of the USB cable to each other. We take two veins of the corresponding color, for example, red, and twist it, and if there is a soldering iron, then we solder it.
I had heat shrink, and to insulate the connection, I first put it on the ends of the wires. If there is no heat shrink, then you can use electrical tape, tape or any other flexible insulating material.

The next step is to isolate the twists or solderings of the cores, and then evenly lay them in one line to get a large twist. As shown on the bottom of the picture.

Now we cover the twists with insulating material. I used heat shrink again to make it look nice. Although this is not important, because all the same, this beauty will hide inside. But still.

If you solder a little, then there is another option where you do not need to twist or solder. Here, the damaged section of the USB cable is simply cut off, stripped, tinned and soldered under the connector from the side of the tracks. When soldering, the sequence of colors of the wires that go into the top of the connector is repeated.

Second common fault- this is when you have to click the left mouse button several times to perform some action. And it also happens like this: you click once, and the click occurs twice. The reason for all this is the microswitch, which presses the left key.

In this case, we already need a soldering iron. Here we do this: solder the microswitch of the left mouse button and the “wheel”, and swap them. Most people use the wheel only for scrolling through pages, and very few people use it as an additional button. Therefore, we put this microswitch in place of the worn-out left one.

The microswitch is easily soldered, although it has three leads.
With the tip of the soldering iron, we simultaneously touch the middle and any of the extreme conclusions, while trying to lift this edge with our finger. You don't need to press hard.

Now we intercept and solder the opposite side of the microswitch, where we also lift it with a finger, and heat the two terminals with a sting.

If it didn’t work the first time, that is, the microswitch remained on the board, then we repeat the soldering procedure again: first we solder one side, and then the second. When both microswitches are soldered, swap them and solder back.

Very often situations arise when part of the solder remains in the hole into which the leg of the radio component is inserted.

If necessary, this is eliminated as follows: a regular needle or a needle from a disposable syringe is taken and inserted into the hole from the side of the radio components, and from the side of the tracks this hole is heated with a soldering iron. As the solder warms up, the needle will enter the hole and force the solder out.

Now it only remains to assemble the repaired rodent in reverse order and enjoy its work. When you put on the upper part of the case, first insert it into the grooves and slightly push forward so that it goes all the way.

in) Let's look at an option in which we would do without a soldering iron. To do this, we need to disassemble the button, this is not difficult to do. We pry off the cover with a thin screwdriver or a needle, first from one side, then from the other, remove the cover. After removing the button, the button will fall out of the cover, which it is desirable not to lose. The problem is that over time, the tongue on the record begins to sag, we need to bend it slightly. We collect the button and check the mouse for performance.


2. Mouse wheel not working

To solve this problem, we, of course, need to disassemble the mouse, this time we will work with a wireless manipulator. And so we unscrew the screws on the bottom of the mouse and remove its upper part, then we unscrew all the screws that fasten the board to the bottom of the mouse body. 3. PProblems with device detection by the system

So I decided to write this detailed instructions for anyone who might find it difficult. This is such an anti-crisis life hack if you want. I note that a new mouse is of course always better than an old one, if you buy it wisely. But when there is no way out and the mouse is urgently needed, a quick and simple ability to fix the mouse saves a lot. Indeed, in the vast majority (more than 90% in my experience) of cases, there is only one breakdown: the cores in the cable connecting the mouse to the computer are torn. This always happens in the place where the cable exits the mouse. We will restore it. So, put testers, oscilloscopes and a soldering iron aside, they are not needed. We will need: electrical tape, a knife and a Phillips screwdriver. In the field conditions of warehouses and other premises far from the server room, electrical tape is easily replaced with adhesive tape, and a knife, for example, with scissors.

A spray bottle with plastic cleaning liquid and a napkin is also highly desirable. Before starting repairs, it is very advisable to wipe and clean the mouse from the outside with them, for example, if you don’t want to catch some kind of skin disease :-) Alcohol or vodka is even better :-)) and a clean rag. In addition, even an optical mouse sometimes needs to be wiped from below, ripping off tons of dirt from the places of contact with the table, otherwise the distance between the table and the mouse increases, and it works worse.

The first thing to do with the mouse is, of course, turn it off. Why scrape off the dirt.

Spin the mouse and shoot top cover. To remove the cover, it is usually necessary, after unscrewing the screws, to move it slightly back and then up. All actions must be done easily, without undue force, we don’t need to break the lid fasteners, right?

This is roughly what it looks like.

But this is the place where the mouse cable usually frays. Our task is to restore the cable.

We release the mouse wire in the place where it comes out of the mouse, and slightly cut the cable sheath from the edge, trying not to cut the wires.

We take the tail of the cable sheath in the left hand, all the cores in the right hand, and carefully tear the sheath with the help of the cores until the cores are free a couple of centimeters above the place where the wire came out of the mouse. If some vein breaks, it's not scary - most likely it will break where it has already frayed.

The veins that have frayed are usually immediately visible, at the point of rupture, only the sheath connects the wire of the vein, so the vein sticks out at an angle there. Such veins can and should be boldly torn to the end in this place.

Then try to pull the remaining cores in different directions in the same place of the cable - they can also be torn. If so, they will break easily. Not scary; feel free to tear them apart.

You clean the ends of the veins. Better straight with your fingers and nails - they are thin and so there is less chance of cutting the wire inside the core. We are not muslin young ladies, but admins, right? :) Twist them together as in the photo.

Now wind the twisted core around you - this will give a reliable connection.

Thus it is necessary to do with all broken veins.

Let's start insulating the wires. We cut off a piece of electrical tape (well, or adhesive tape, what do you have there?) 8-10 centimeters. We take any wire and wrap the edge of electrical tape around it, like this.

Now, without cutting anything off, we fasten the rest of the wires to it with the same piece, one wire for one and a half turns of electrical tape. Thus, we isolate them at the same time.

Not torn cores can not be wound.

Cut off the excess shell and excess electrical tape.

Insert the wire back into the mouse latch. We make sure that the wire does not interfere with the moving elements of the mouse, such as the wheel or buttons. The wire also should not prevent us from putting the mouse back together - make sure that it does not fall into the grooves on the muzzle of the mouse, if any, and on the edge of the case, where the mouse cover and its bottom will be connected.

After making sure of this, insert the front part of the cover into the grooves, if any, connect the cover to the bottom, and screw it on with a screw (screws, if there are several). Remember the assembly rule: before tightening each screw, turn it counterclockwise a couple of times to get into the thread already cut with self-tapping screws.

Computer mouse repair

Today it is difficult to imagine life without computer technology. With the advent of personal computers custom GUI the computer mouse has become an integral part of it. Modern optical mouse able to serve without repair for many years, but nothing lasts forever and sooner or later it stops working as it should. It is rarely taken to the workshop, as for the price it will most likely cost more than a new one. Therefore, they usually repair the mouse themselves or buy a new one.

The USB mouse that I will be repairing has served me for 5 years. The first repair was 3 years after the purchase (I cleaned the buttons). Recently, the left button began to click badly again, and this time page scrolling stopped working correctly.

Mouse disassembly

To disassemble the mouse, you need to find and unscrew the mounting screws from the bottom side. On this model, the cover is fixed with one screw (there are models on which it is attached with two or more).

After unscrewing the screw, you need to slightly lift the cover (behind where the screw is) to move it forward so as not to break off the latches on the cover.

As you can see, in the photo, the board with the parts is simply pressed by the cover to the base (on some models it is fixed with screws or a latch).

Cause of malfunction

As buttons, tact buttons or momentary microswitches are usually used. The contact plate of the tact button, which is usually silver-coated, oxidizes more and more over time, that is, the tarnish film becomes thicker and when the button is pressed lightly, crushing the tarnish films does not cause electrical conductivity even due to the tunnel effect. In other words, oxides interfere with the normal operation of the buttons.

The buttons should be replaced with new ones, but, as always, at the right time they are not at hand and it remains only to repair them. In addition, it will not be difficult to restore their performance.

Disassembly and cleaning

To disassemble the button, you need to insert a knife or other suitable tool between the cover and its base, and, prying it, rivet the rivets. I advise you to leave the cover on one rivet, so that later it will be easier to assemble the button back.

From cleaning with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol, there will be almost no sense; instead, it is better to rub them against a sheet of paper with pressure. The contacts inside the case are “grinded” with a match or a toothpick.

Button Assembly

Metal plates should be placed with the convex side up. When assembling, it is not advisable to touch the plates from the side of the contacts; it is better to use non-magnetic tweezers for installation.

In some varieties of tact buttons there are rubber shock absorbers, their location is almost impossible to confuse.

After installing the shock absorbers and the upper pressing parts of the buttons, you can close the covers, and then rivet or glue them.

Encoder repair

Surely, many users have encountered such a breakdown, in which, during the rotation of the mouse wheel, the page moves in jerks, the reaction is inadequate or it does not exist at all. Typically, these kinds of signs indicate a malfunction of a device called an encoder (rotation angle sensor), which is responsible for this option.

Disassembly of the angle sensor

To disassemble it, it is necessary to unbend the metal tabs holding the plastic body of the sensor.

Then, slightly moving the encoder base, you can easily pull out the plate, which is installed to limit the scrolling step by clearly fixing the position of the petals on the contacts. After him, and the disk itself with copper petals.

Most often, the breakdown is caused by the fact that the copper petals, systematically sliding over the same place, eventually wear out the case and contacts, leaving recesses on them. Due to the particles of plastic, which are dragged by the petals (from the case to the contacts), the conductivity of the signals worsens, that is, the contacts are “dirty”.

First you need to clean the encoder from grease, dirt and oxides. Then the copper petals can be slightly bent (from the disk to the contacts).

If the grooves are deep, you can move the petals so that they no longer fall on them.

During assembly, it is desirable to apply technical petroleum jelly to the contacts; it will significantly extend the life of the sensor.

The metal paws of the sensor housing do not need to be strongly clamped, otherwise the mouse wheel will spin tightly.

With such simple manipulations, you can restore the working capacity of a computer mouse, which you are so used to.

Note

If possible, it is better to immediately replace the buttons and the encoder with new ones, they will last longer, and also save time and nerves.

When assembling the mouse, do not forget to clean the optical lens from dirt and lint.

The weakest point of a modern computer mouse is a scroller, a scroll wheel. Sometimes the wheel fails in the first week after purchase. Scrolling becomes capricious, does not work for a short rotation, scrolling accuracy is lost, large gaps are obtained with intensive scrolling, etc. And sometimes it happens that the window scrolls in reverse side!

If you have 15 free minutes, then you can try to fix the mouse with the minimum number of tools. And you don't need a soldering iron!
Even if you have absolutely no skills in "picking" electronics, I recommend that before you throw away the mouse, try to fix it and gain at least minimal experience. First of all, disconnect the mouse from the computer!
We take a thin Phillips screwdriver and disassemble the mouse. Sometimes manufacturers cleverly hide the screws under the sliding pads-legs.
Happened? Now consider the device of your mouse. Most often there are two main designs.

1. Mouse with optical scroll wheel sensor


The photo shows a mouse in which the scroll wheel is built on an optical encoder. This is usually a sign of more expensive and high-quality mice. Distinctive features are a ribbed partition inside the scroll wheel and 2 optical elements (emitter and receiver) on opposite sides of it.
In this case, the repair is simplified. It is necessary to clean the wound hairs, wool, threads from the roller axis, which impede the uniform rotation of the wheel and block the work optical system. Wipe any dust, dirt, or smudges from the transmitter and receiver as needed.

2. Mouse with mechanical scroll wheel sensor


But mostly manufacturers make mice on electromechanical encoders in order to reduce the cost of the product. Next, we consider in more detail the case of a breakdown of such an encoder.

We remove all unnecessary and see an electromechanical encoder, which is a bit like a tuning resistor. Here it is, with an orange octahedron inside.


If you have a soldering iron and the accompanying skill, it is better to unsolder it for further disassembly and cleaning. AT otherwise you need to be very careful to avoid breaking the contact leg when bending.

Carefully bend the insides away from the frame, and if you soldered the encoder, then just disassemble it. The metal latch is usually mounted on plastic legs. Everything is removed very easily, the main thing is to work without fanaticism.

And we see inside the true reason for the failure of the scroll wheel: the same garbage and dirt. Most likely this is a mixture of silicone grease, frayed dust and hairs. The contact springs are also covered in dirt.

We take cotton wool, dip it in alcohol (isopropyl or ethyl), vodka, beer or special. cleaner for electronics contacts. Acetone is better not to use, because. there is a risk of dissolution and deformation of the plastic parts of the encoder.
Next, carefully wipe the contact pads and springs. Be extra careful when cleaning the springs, otherwise you can ruin everything.


I think the difference is clear. Look how much dirt has gathered on the cotton wool.

Scroll wheel elasticity tweak

If you want the video to be more elastic, and its fixation when scrolling becomes more rigid and clear, then you can make a slight modification.
The metal lock, which helps to fix the wheel, has a semicircular bend in its shape. Using very thin pliers or tweezers, you need to bend it in the middle of the radius to form a sharper protrusion.


Now the protrusion will fit more tightly between the teeth on the plastic ratchet.
