How to call a bot on a laptop. Entering the Boot Menu on a laptop and computer

Do you want to know how to enter a special boot BOOT menu, computer or laptop?

To boot from a flash drive or CD - DVD disc?

In this article, you will learn how to do it right.

When we do clean install Windows, then we need to boot not from the hard disk, but from another medium.

This is either a CD - DVD disc, or a flash drive.

This is usually done using the input Computer BIOS or laptop.

This is exactly what we did in previous lessons.

We went into BIOS and changed the boot order of devices.

It is at this step that approximately 90% of users who want to reinstall Windows stop.

They cannot enter the BIOS and make the necessary settings there.

Exist alternative way boot device selection.

This is the BOOT menu. The BOOT menu is easier and more convenient than entering the BIOS.

The essence of the BUT menu is to press a certain key when loading a computer or laptop.

This will bring up a menu like this:

In this menu, we can select any device and immediately boot from it.

Let's take a closer look at this.

I connected a bootable flash drive to my laptop. On my laptop, the Escape key is responsible for entering the Boot menu.

I pressed the Escape button, hold it down and, at the same time, turn on the laptop with the button. The Boot menu opened in front of me.

Cursor keys, up down, I choose desired device. In this case, it's a flash drive.

As soon as the desired device is selected, I press the Enter key.

Ready! I booted from the flash drive and now I can start installing Windows.

So, to enter the BOOT menu, you need to press one key when you boot your computer or laptop.

As in the case of the BIOS, the BOOT menu keys differ depending on the manufacturer and brand of your laptop or computer.

The most common keys are:

F12, Esc, F11, F9 and F8

Boot menu has significant advantages over BIOS.

1. Boot menu is simpler, it can be used faster.

2. You do not need to understand complex BIOS settings and change them. Let me remind you that there are settings in BIOS that, by changing which, your computer or laptop will stop booting at all. Using the Boot menu you will avoid this.

3. No need to return the BIOS settings back to their original state.

Of course, the Boot menu has its own peculiarities.

If you have Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, then to enter the BOOT menu, I recommend using a computer restart instead of shutting down. The fact is that in these operating systems, the so-called Quick Start is activated by default.

Quick Start makes it so that when you shut down the computer does not turn off, in the usual sense of the word. He falls asleep, or rather enters hibernation.

Therefore, when you enable it, it will not give you the option to enter the Boot menu. It will simply wake up and show you the state it was in when you pressed the shutdown button.

The solution is very simple: use reboot instead of shutdown.

Let's see how it's done:

So, my laptop is turned on, Windows is loaded, the bootable flash drive is connected. Now I enable reboot.

I just click on the Start button, click the Shut down button and click Restart.

Once the BOOT menu is in front of us, we can start installing Windows.

Fast startup can be turned off completely. And then you can use the Boot menu as usual when you turn on the computer.

The setup is very simple, I'll show you how to do it now. Quick Start is turned off through the classic Control Panel. In Windows, it can be opened through the search. Just enter in the search the word: panel. As soon as the Control Panel icon showed up in the search results, I simply press the Enter key.

In the Control Panel, you can switch from categories to icons. Or you can just search through the search Power supply.

On the left we have Power. We click on it.

Here we need a button Actions of the power buttons. We click on it. To unlock the settings that are not active, you need to click, as shown in the picture. Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Now we can turn off Fast Startup (Quick Boot), just uncheck the box. Then we save the changes.

After that, the Boot menu will be available to you when you boot.

In Windows 8.1, the setup is done in the same way.

One more feature.

In some fancy BIOSes and not so fancy ones, there is a menu item that disables the BOOT menu.

More about this in the video.

If your BIOS has such an item, then you will have to go into the BIOS and turn on the BOOT menu once. That is, activate this item.

After that, the BOOT menu will be available to you when you boot.

From the table, you can find out which keys you need to press on your PC or laptop to enter the BOOT menu.

You have a bootable DVD or flash drive, now you need to make sure that the computer can boot from them.

There are 2 ways to boot your computer from a DVD or flash drive:

  • Selecting a device in the boot menu
  • Changing Boot Priority in BIOS

Each method has pros and cons.

If you need, for example, to install Windows, then it is more convenient to choose the first method. And if you are constantly working with boot disks, then the second method is more convenient.

Features of device selection in the boot menu

  • On older computers motherboards ah) the function is missing. In this case, you will have to change the priority in the BIOS.
  • When you select a device in the menu, the computer boots from this device 1 time. This is convenient when installing Windows - you do not need to return the boot from the HDD after the first reboot.

Features of changing the priority in the BIOS

  • Works on both new and old computers.
  • The priority change is permanent, i.e. valid until the next change, and not one download as is the case with the menu. This is not very convenient when installing Windows from a USB flash drive, you have to return the boot from the HDD after the first reboot.

How to enter the boot menu or BIOS?

There is no universal button for entering the boot menu or for entering the BIOS. It all depends on the manufacturer of the computer (motherboard), they are all different - the keys are also different. The most correct way to find the right key is to read the instructions from the computer (motherboard). For some of the most common boards, the keys are listed below.

There is only one time when you need to press these keys - during self-testing immediately after turning on the computer (English - Power-On Self-Test or POST). Without going into details, POST lasts from turning on the computer until the boot starts operating system(appearance of the logo or OS selection menu). The POST pass looks something like this:

The screen prompts: Press DEL to run Setup which means click DEL to enter BIOS Setup. DEL is the most common key, but there are many others - more on that below.

During POST, a graphical splash screen with the name of the manufacturer of the computer or motherboard may be displayed.

Keys to enter the boot menu and brief instructions

As noted above, each manufacturer has its own key to enter the boot menu. Here is a short list of the most common ones:

The boot menu looks like this:

You just have to select the desired device from the list. If everything is done correctly, the disk or flash drive is written correctly, the download / installation should begin.

Keys for entering the BIOS and brief instructions for changing the boot priority

You will find less common hotkeys for entering the BIOS.

In addition to the fact that there are several major BIOS manufacturers (AMI, Phoenix - Award), computer (motherboard) manufacturers also modify the BIOS according to specific model. As a result, you cannot create universal instruction even by changing one function (boot priority), there will be differences on each computer. You can only roughly show how this is done, and look for exact instructions in the documentation for your computer (motherboard).

Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through the BIOS and change settings. Enter and + \- .

AMI

Move arrows to the tab Boot, go to boot device priority:

In the following figure, we see that the boot is sequentially performed: from the floppy drive (Floppy Drive), hard drive (Hard Drive), and the third device is not used (Disabled).

If we want to boot from a DVD, we need to change the priorities so that the first device is the DVD drive. Arrows switch to the first device ( 1st boot device), press Enter and select from the menu that appears CDROM. It's the same with a flash drive.

Click F10 and confirm the exit with saving (Save and Exit) by choosing .

Happy using!

Do you want to boot your computer from a flash drive or disk? To do this, it is not necessary to enter the BIOS settings. Especially if you don't understand much about it. After all, there is an easier way. In this case, it is enough to enter the Boot Menu and change the device boot priority. This is done in 10 seconds. And most importantly - no shamanism in the BIOS.

Boot Menu - what is it?

What do users usually do to reinstall Windows? As a rule, they record a licensed digital copy on, and then execute .

Boot Menu (or boot menu) is an extremely useful BIOS option. With it, you can quickly set the device boot priority. Simply put, launching the Boot Menu brings up a small window in which you can immediately put a USB flash drive (or DVD drive) in first place, and HDD- for the second. In this case, you do not need to enter the BIOS.

Also, changing the settings in the Boot Menu does not affect the BIOS settings. I.e, this option works once - for one inclusion. And when you restart your PC, Windows will boot from hard drive(normally). If you need to run again Windows installation from a flash drive - call the Boot Menu again.

If you remember, when changing the settings in the BIOS, you had to go into it again and change the device boot priority back (that is, put the hard drive in first place). And in the case of the Boot Menu, this is not necessary.

How to call the Boot Menu

Very simple - just click on Windows boot one key. Which one? It depends on the:

  • BIOS version;
  • motherboard;
  • laptop models.

That is, the situation is exactly the same as with the BIOS. For example, in order to, you need to press the Del or F2 button, and to open the Boot Menu, you need to click another.

Most often it is Esc or F12. Although, as mentioned above, the call button may differ on different PCs.

Therefore, below we will look at how to launch the Boot Menu on popular brands of laptops and personal computers.

How to enable Boot Menu on Lenovo laptops

Owners of Lenovo laptops should not have any difficulties. After all, the Boot Menu on Lenovo is launched very simply - by pressing the F12 key when loading Windows.

Plus on the body of many models there is special button with curved arrow. You can click it if you want to choose additional. download options.

Run Boot Menu on PC with mat. Asus motherboard is easy

You must press the F8 key when it boots up (at the same time that you normally enter the BIOS).

And with Asus laptops there is a bit of confusion. It seems that the manufacturer is the same, but there are several buttons for launching the Booth Menu. After all, launching the Boot Menu on Asus laptops carried out using one of two keys:

Most often this is the Esc button, although it can be F8. However, there are only 2 keys.

The boot menu on Acer is opened by pressing the F12 button

But there is one small nuance here. The fact is that usually the launch of the Boot Menu on Acer laptops is disabled. And when you press F12, nothing will happen. To make it work, you need to do the following:

  1. Enter the BIOS (when booting the laptop, press the F2 button).
  2. Go to the "Main" tab.
  3. Look for the line "F12 Boot Menu" and change the value "Disabled" (off) to "Enabled" (on).
  4. Save the changed settings and exit the BIOS.

The system will reboot and you will be able to enter the boot menu on Acer laptop using F12.

How to enable Boot Menu on Samsung laptops

On Samsung, you need to press the Esc key. But Samsung laptop owners need to know one thing. The fact is that to call the Booth Menu, you need to click the Esc button once! If you press twice, the window will simply close.

Therefore, you will have to get used to it in order to know exactly when to press the Esc key. Although there is nothing complicated here - just a couple of attempts.

HP also has its own specifics

Launching the Boot Menu on HP also has its own specifics. After all, the opening of the Booth Menu is carried out somewhat differently.

  1. At turning on Windows immediately press the Esc key.
  2. The launch menu will be displayed - press the F9 button.
  3. Ready.

After that, the boot menu of the HP laptop will open, and you can set the priority for turning on devices (using the arrows).

Boot menu on Windows 10 or 8

If Windows 8 or Windows 10 is installed on a PC or laptop, then you most likely will not be able to turn on the Boot Menu.

The fact is that these operating systems have a small feature - by default they have "Quick Startup" enabled, so they do not turn off completely. This is called hibernation (something like sleep mode). Therefore, when loading a PC or laptop, you will not be able to open this menu on Windows 10.

You can fix this in three ways:

  1. Hold Shift when turning off your laptop or PC. After that, it will turn off normally (in the usual sense of the word). And then you can run it on Windows 10 by pressing the desired key.
  2. Instead of shutting down the PC, you can restart it. And at the moment of switching on, just press a certain key corresponding to your brand of laptop or motherboard.
  3. Turn off the Quick Start feature. For this:

That's it - now you can easily enter the Boot Menu on Windows 10 or Windows 8.

For your convenience, below is a screenshot showing the keys to launch the Boot Menu for popular laptops and PCs.

For example, for computers running on the mat. MSI board is the F11 button. And launching the Boot Menu on Sony VAIO laptops is done using F12. In general, you will figure it out yourself - the table is simple and understandable.

Also, for convenience, buttons for entering the BIOS are written. If for some reason you cannot open the Boot Menu, you can always change the device boot priority in a standard way- via BIOS.

When installing the operating system, you must go to the boot menu (Boot Menu) to tell the computer which device to boot from. It is also necessary when you need to start from a Live CD or bootable flash drive. Today I will tell and show you how to enter Boot Menu both on PC motherboards and laptops.

In the same way that you need to press a special key (F2 or Del) to enter the BIOS or UEFI, there is also a specific button to call the boot menu. Typically, these are the F11, F12, or Esc keys, but there are exceptions. Usually, when you turn on the computer, under the splash screen, you can see the key that is responsible for calling the Boot Menu.

You can, of course, do without the Boot Menu, simply by choosing a specific device boot order in the BIOS, but if you want to boot one-time (virus check or system installation), then I would advise using the boot menu, because it's much faster.

So, why do you need a Boot Menu at all - you ask. This menu shows a list of devices connected to the PC from which you can boot (flash drives, CDs, hard drives) for further installation of the system or for testing components.

Entering the Boot Menu in Windows 8 and Windows 10

If you are the proud owner of a laptop that originally had Windows 8, 8.1, or Windows 10 installed, then you may not be able to enter the Boot Menu. I will explain why: shutdown in these systems is not complete, as it is more like hibernation, so when you press F11, F12, Esc, the boot menu may not open. You can fix this in several ways:
- hold down the Shift button when choosing "Shutdown" and then the PC should turn off completely;
- turn off the fast startup of the system - in the "eight" go to the Control Panel,

Go to "Power"

On the left, click on "What the power buttons do"

Disable "Enable quick launch” (you can do this even not on a laptop).

Entering the Boot Menu on Asus laptops and motherboards

Almost all stationary computers Asus, to enter the boot menu you need to press the F8 button immediately when the computer turns on. If we press F9 or Del, we will get into the BIOS.

Regarding laptops, it's a bit confusing. The Esc key brings up the boot menu on modern models, on older laptops, the F8 key works, and mainly on models whose names begin with the letter k or x. In short, if the Esc key does not bring up the Boot Menu, then we reboot and try to press F8.

Entering the Boot Menu on Lenovo laptops

To bring up the boot menu on Lenovo laptops, just press the F12 key. If you want to use additional options downloads, press the additional arrow key,

Entering the Boot Menu on Acer laptops

On all Acer laptops and monoblocks, the F12 key is used to call the Boot Menu when turned on. But, the laptops of this company have one unpleasant feature - the ability to call the boot menu is disabled in the BIOS settings. To fix this, we get into the BIOS by pressing the F2 key. Now find the parameter "F12 Boot Menu" and activate it so that it has the word Enabled next to it. It remains only to save the settings and exit the BIOS.

The BIOS is configured so that it knows to boot from a floppy disk or disk. This is done mainly for installing Windows or another boot program. Read about how to make an ego in this section.

BIOS setup

At this stage, you need to configure the BIOS so that the computer boots from the system (boot) floppy disk or disk. By default, the BIOS tries to load the operating system by looking for its bootloader first on the A: drive (in most computers, this is just a three-inch drive), and then on the computer's first hard drive.

However, if someone has already changed the BIOS settings, as is almost always the case on previously working computers, the boot order may be quite different. Just in case, we will go through all the BIOS settings for booting the operating system from disk together - it does not matter if your computer is already configured the way we need it or not. In any case, the environment from what you learn to handle BIOS settings, will not.

To enter the mode BIOS settings, in most replaced motherboards, immediately after turning on the computer, press the Delete key in sequence, and when you enter the BIOS, you will see an image on the monitor similar to that shown in the picture.

It is necessary, using the arrow keys, to go to the Boot menu, as shown in the picture.

If the BIOS is set up so that the Hard Drive is selected as the first boot device, you need to change this setting to Removable Devices.

Select an item Removable Devices and press the "+" key. Remember to save changes to the BIOS: in the Exit menu, press the Enter key on the Exit Saving Changes item. In the next menu dialog, you need to confirm the need to save the changes made by pressing the Enter key on the Yes position.

After restarting, the computer will boot from the installation floppy or dvd disc to be inserted into the drive. After this happens, you can proceed to the next stage of work - to prepare the hard drive.

P.S. In the BIOS settings, you can not only change the boot sequence modes, but also set such primitive parameters as date and time. All other switches must be performed only after reading the other instructions for setting up the BIOS, otherwise the computer may malfunction.
