The long-awaited continuation of the Dead Rising series of the same name was announced back in June last year, when figures from Capcom announced the decision to make the game exclusive to the newly minted Xbox One platform. This news immediately caused a flurry of indignation among the players who did not plan to purchase a new “box” in the near future. Exactly one year later, at the E3 2014 gaming exhibition, the Japanese announced their intention to port the game to personal computers. And today, PC owners can finally visit the sensational town of Los Perdidos and appreciate the perky zombie slasher.

Players familiar with the Dead Rising universe know firsthand about the deadly virus that has infected all of humanity. Someone successfully capitalizes on an unprecedented situation by organizing competitions for the mass destruction of the dead. Those who were once unfortunate, in desperation seek Zombrex - a drug that temporarily prevents terrifying metamorphoses. Well, the lucky ones who managed to survive the zombie apocalypse actually use their own ingenuity to get out of the deadly trap.

It is to the latter category that Nick Ramos, who not so long ago quietly worked as an auto mechanic in a local workshop, belongs. Today he is one of the few who managed to survive and not lose his mind under such absurd circumstances. As it turns out, this is not the worst news. Having learned about the epidemic, the government decides to drop a bomb that will raze the entire metropolis to the ground. Nick needs to leave Los Perdidos within a week, save all the survivors, and at the same time kick ass to the distraught anarchists here.

The rules of the game world have not changed at all. During the day, the streets are filled with crowds of zombies, limply wandering in search of fresh human flesh. At midnight, nerds become more aggressive, which exponentially complicates the task. The only way to get through the hordes of opponents is to grab the first object that comes across (better it will be a katana than a tin bucket) and shred the enemies into small pieces.

As in previous games in the series, the main character can combine items to create insane combo weapons. For example, by combining a bow and engine oil, the player gets a modified crossbow that shoots fire arrows. The combination of an LCD monitor and a beer keg will allow Nick to create a mechanized cat that will automatically attack a crowd of opponents. But chemicals combined with a toy robot make an adorable baby doll that releases deadly gas. And this is only a small part of the hundred unique combinations, the recipes for which the player opens as he progresses through the main storyline. By the way, there is no need to search for workbenches anymore, because in Dead Rising 3 combo weapons can be assembled right on the spot.

However, that's not all. Unlike his predecessors, Nick Ramos is a talented auto mechanic who can turn a car into a real death machine. With a flick of the wrist, the protagonist creates the most insane weapons for mass murder from a motorcycle and a skating rink, a road cleaner and a festive truck, or by combining a van with an SUV. The only pity is that the scale of Los Perdidos is not conducive to long trips, and players will only need a couple of minutes to get to the marked point.

An important feature of the local locations is the presence of special storage facilities that periodically generate all the necessary details for combinations. However, you should not hope for a freebie, because each such point needs time to restore the assortment of utilities.

In addition to the main storyline, Dead Rising 3 also tries to keep the player busy with all sorts of secondary missions. Each survivor will not hesitate to ask the main character to save a comrade, to run away for a lost thing, or to take revenge on a crazy villain. Each such task is just one more reason to go to the central square and dance the dance of death, chopping the dead into pieces.

The blood shed by our protagonist is by no means in vain. As before, for each kill, players are awarded experience points that increase the level of Nick and allow him to upgrade his characteristics. The pumping system provides for increasing the scale of health and inventory, improving melee skills and modifications, and much more. Frequent use of combined weapons and vehicles allows you to more effectively pump these indicators.

Hand on heart, it's safe to say that Dead Rising 3 was an order of magnitude lighter than its predecessors. First, there is no longer a timer forcing players to rush items off their list of planned pranks. Secondly, due to constant autosaves, we no longer have to run through the whole city in order to fight the strong “boss” again. Thirdly, the developers throw chips and juice bags at every step so that the player can replenish his health at any time. But in Nightmare Mode, they stop feeding players from a spoon, there is less useful garbage, and opponents pose a rather serious threat.

The main advantage of the third part was the extras, which allows you to fit on the monitor screen over three hundred opponents. The meat grinder, which is created on the other side of the screen, is perfectly worked out and does not slow down. Whatever they say, the PC port lived up to all expectations: an adequate response to the keyboard and mouse, excellent optimization, and pre-resolved problems with crashes.

Despite the lack of former grotesqueness and shocking, Dead Rising 3 has become a successful continuation of the popular series. Significantly improved graphics, hundreds of different item combinations and addictive gameplay - spending time with zombies just got even more fun. After all, the holiday does not end in the single-player campaign, and you can always start mastering new game modes by arranging a bloodbath in co-op with friends.
