Review of Dead Rising 3: Apocalypse on PC

Zombies are not the most unique creatures. We have already seen dozens of movies about walking corpses and destroyed them in many games. But Capcom's recent port of survival horror shows the zombie apocalypse in a new light. Our review of Dead Rising 3 will tell you more about it.

Dead Rising 3 was released in 2013 as an Xbox One exclusive to mostly positive reviews. But last year, critics pointed out that the project was not worth buying a set-top box from Microsoft. Well, almost a year later, Dead Rising 3 is out on PC, so we totally agree with the reviewers. Moreover, the PC port turned out even better than the original version.

We want to start our review of Dead Rising 3 with a few words about the series itself. All three games are very different from traditional projects about zombies and the apocalypse. Do not expect drama, tragedy and real horror from them. The Dead Rising series is not distinguished by either bright characters or spectacular monologues. All games are meant to be fun, so don't take them too seriously. Dead Rising 3 is also fun and exciting, but it lacks common sense.

The game takes us to Los Perdidos, a fictional Californian city that was hit by a terrible epidemic three days ago. The city is full of zombies who are desperately attacking a handful of survivors, and the government is not even going to save the last. Los Perdidos is scheduled to be destroyed in a few days, so you need to leave the epicenter of the epidemic as soon as possible. By the way, you play the role of Nick - a car mechanic who has a unique talent to collect vehicles from literally nothing. This skill will come in handy in the harsh world of Dead Rising 3.

Before you leave the city, you need to complete a series of tasks and side quests, as well as explore the beauties of Los Perdidos. This time, the developers have provided us with an open world. It is not too big, but detailed and varied. You will be able to visit a significant number of small and medium-sized locations and find interesting things. All the objects that get in your way will help you survive. So, it can be food and water, weapon parts and clothing, so don't forget to watch your step. Moreover, even the most unusual items are useful, as Nick has an amazing talent for creating weapons from things that were not intended for this.

Crafting is one of the most entertaining parts of the game, so a review of Dead Rising 3 would not be complete without a brief description of it. In just a couple of clicks, you can create something amazing and powerful from completely incompatible things. Moreover, in this part of the series, you don’t even need a workshop to make weapons, since handicraft guns are assembled anywhere. As mentioned above, Nick is also a car builder, so you can build vehicles too. Various absurd cars will help you not only comfortably navigate the open world of the game, but also crush the unfortunate zombies. And to make the gameplay completely crazy, the developers have scattered sets of clothes around the maps, so that before meeting with the walking dead, you can dress up properly.

Naturally, zombies occupy the bulk of the game. These creepy creatures filled Los Perdidos with might and main. Dozens of walking corpses await you around every corner, hundreds roam in abandoned buildings, and thousands have occupied the streets. But the zombies are not too smart and agile, so you can enjoy their extermination. To destroy enemies, use the same crafted weapons, as well as vehicles. Perhaps you can even come up with your own crazy way to fight zombies. This game is also great to play with friends.

In addition to zombies, you will also encounter bosses. They are not particularly dangerous, but quite remarkable. To kill the boss, you will need a previously created weapon. But it's better to look for some kind of gun or part of it in the location next to the boss, since the easiest way is to destroy your main enemy using the method that the developers came up with for this. You can also try yourself as other survivors whose storylines are available in the add-ons included in the PC version of the game.

As you remember, our review of Dead Rising 3 began with an indication that the PC version of the project is even better than the original. How? Here are the main benefits. First, it's graphics. The resolution of the game is higher - 1920x1080 - and the gloomy locations of Los Perdidos look quite good. By default, the frame rate is 30 fps, but this parameter can be increased to 60. To do this, go to the folder Steam\Steam Apps\Common\deadrising3, create a file user.ini, enter the line in it gmpcr_unlock_frame_rate = True, save and close. That's it, now the frame rate is at its maximum, but the game does not always run smoothly. So use the hack at your own risk.

It is also worth noting that Dead Rising 3 does not require an overly powerful computer. However, it works great and the locations load fairly quickly. Even during a hot battle with a lot of zombies, there will be no brakes. But don't expect anything out of the ordinary. Frankly, it doesn't look like a new generation game.

Finally

Dead Rising 3 is a simple game without an intricate plot or emotional cut-scenes. All you have to do here is to cut, shoot, crush and destroy hordes of zombies, using absolutely inappropriate items for this. And it's really fun.

Well, we end our review of Dead Rising 3 with an assessment of the game. We give her 8 out of 10.
