A typical representative of the budget segment based on MTK6735 - interesting design, not bad front-camera(and a strange main one), a good display, you can buy, but with reservations ...

Design, construction

The device somehow reminded me of the iPhone 5C - probably, the contours of the plastic case are similar, there are characteristic curves. Naturally, there is no question of any copying, modern smartphones are similar to each other, so my feelings can be written down as the advantages of the device. It seems to be a budget smartphone, but it’s nice to pick it up, and use it daily too. There is an oleophobic coating on the screen, fingerprints are invisible on a dark gray smartphone, the same applies to a smartphone white color.

On the upper part there is a 3.5 mm jack and a microphone hole, above the screen there is a speaker strip, a front camera, a proximity sensor, and the adaptive brightness setting is also not forgotten. At the bottom there is a microUSB connector without a plug, the main speaker. On the left, a long flap covers the card slot microSD memory and SIM cards, nanoSIM is used. The process of extracting the card is made interesting: you cling to the SIM card tray with your fingernail, both substrates leave. In general, everything is quite logical, but it was better to make the trays spring-loaded, pressed it - the card popped up.

On the right side are the power button, volume control. It is very strange that the rocker here is located above the power button, at first mistakes are frequent, you press the wrong place.

On the back there is a camera lens, a flash, an NFC area, the Xperia inscription is applied to the plastic in the usual way, this is not an engraving. Probably, over time, the inscription may be erased, but so far no one seems to be complaining.

Above the screen, there is a small dot indicator light that glows green while charging.

There are no complaints about the assembly, and the design, I repeat, is not bad. Exact dimensions - 144 x 69 x 8.2 mm, weight - 147 grams.

Display

Diagonal HD-display - 5 inches, as I said, there is an adaptive brightness control. You can tweak the white balance, it's worth it, initially the screen turns yellow, I liked the settings, as in the screenshot.

Viewing angles are not bad, in general - the screen is like a screen. It's good that they didn't skimp on the oleophobic coating. So if you choose between Sony Xperia XA and Xperia E5, I advise you to try both in the cabin - no matter how beautiful the XA is, it is preferable to use the E5 in everyday activities.

Performance, features

It uses MTK6735 chipset, the main features are as follows:

  • ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit quad-core processor (1.3GHz)
  • ARM Mali-T720 GPU
  • Rel. 9 Cat. 4 LTE (FDD & TDD), DC-HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, CDMA2000 1x/EVDO Rev. A, EDGE
  • 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0
  • 13MP image signal-processor
  • 1080p Full HD video recording and playback at 30fps

Interesting things to see here LTE support, Bluetooth 4.0, FullHD video recording.

In reality, the device slows down in unusual places - when you turn on the camera, when saving a picture, when launching some applications. Switching on and menu transitions are quick and smooth, oddities appear when you turn on something heavy (and heating too).

Installed 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of memory for data, about half is available to the user. It is better to immediately rely on a memory card, since the slot was not removed here, for which Sony needs to be thanked very much. There is another tip, use normal memory cards - meaning the write speed - then there will be no problems when using it with the camera.

used android version 6.0 with a number of branded additions, these are themes, a redesigned player, a number of pre-installed applications - the Sony Xperia store, radio, Xperia Lounge with various competitions, discounts and special offers.

Working hours

The declared operating time is about two days, in reality, the device lived up to seven in the evening with heavy use right in the morning - sometimes charging ended earlier. The proprietary modes Stamina and UltraStamina help, if the E5 is primarily a phone for you, then it makes sense to always keep them on.

That is, there is nothing surprising, count on a day of work.

cameras

The first tip is to disable object tracking in the settings, the device is not fast, and this simply interferes with normal focusing. The second tip is to use normal memory cards! The third tip, E5 is a budget smartphone, it does not pretend to be a photo flagship, so you should not expect incredible shots. In normal lighting, you can still shoot something sensible, but at dusk, trying to take photos becomes torture.

The main camera is 13 MP, with autofocus and HDR support, the front camera is 5 MP, wide-angle, in my opinion, some kind of filter is preinstalled that smoothes the skin. A 3x Clear Image zoom is announced, which allows you to zoom in and shoot an object, honestly, I didn’t get a single normal frame.

findings

I would like to increase the volume of the call a little - but there is nowhere, the vibration is weak. The quality of speech transmission is at a good level, but the speaker seemed quite quiet to me, I want to make it louder, but that's it, the stock is over. In retail, the device costs about 13,990 rubles. In this price category the device has a lot of competitors, this and Samsung smartphones, for example Galaxy J5, it is slightly more expensive, or Galaxy J3, it costs the same. Or Meizu M3s - metal case, two SIM-cards, good performance.

In general, apart from the market, the E5 seems to be not bad, but if you know about other devices in this segment, Sony's budget "player" looks weak, especially in the photographic aspect. But there is also Xiaomi, many other smartphones with little-known names so far.

Now about the advantages and disadvantages, I'll start with the pros:

  • Good design
  • Good screen (there is an adaptive brightness control, white balance adjustment)
  • Good front-facing camera for selfie lovers
  • Custom wallpapers, Stamina/UltraStamina modes, radio, decent music player
  • LTE support
  • Slowdowns, heating - it all depends on what applications you use
  • It's hard to get a normal frame - the camera sometimes behaves strangely, this applies primarily to autofocus. When there is time to cope with autofocus, and even if the lighting conditions are normal, then you can count on more or less high-quality photos.
  • The declared operating time - two days - can be achieved only if you do not use the device at all. In reality, this is a day, and then with reservations
  • I wish Sony paid more attention to speaker volume

I can give two pieces of advice about the E5. Tip one, if you don’t care about camera capabilities, like design, smartphone screen, if you like Sony, then you can buy. A friend bought from me for such a mother, turned off all wireless interfaces (except for the phone, of course), my mother is happy - because she almost never takes pictures. Of course, this is strange in our time, but I don’t want to prevaricate, the E5 in this sense is not at all an outstanding gadget.

The second tip, alas, in this segment (up to 15,000 rubles) is really hard to find something perfect from all points of view. Therefore, if you like Xperia, it is better to add and buy the flagship of the past years, some kind of "compact" with the letter Z.

In use 3 days. Chose between xperia XA and E5. The choice was only Sony, to replace the old xperia SP. There is no particular difference between the XA and E5, only the processor. In general, the purchase is very satisfied. The performance is excellent, it works quickly, the screen responds clearly. They really joked with the SONY battery, it could have been more powerful for such a model. I do not know if I took XA with 8 cores. There is the same battery 2300, but 4 cores, 1.3 percent. In general, the battery lasts for a day or more with average use. In the morning with a full charge, in the evening 35-40 percent. And calls and internet. In general, like all the latest Sony, a weak battery, but tolerable, especially if you know how to use it. The camera is a big minus. I even had a camera at times smarter and clearer on the SP. The front is good. As for the sound, the sound quality, surround. I was stunned when I heard it. Usually the phone starts to yell and everything wheezes, etc. And here the sound is very high quality, but unfortunately quiet. Communication and microphone are excellent. And compared to earlier SONY models, there are no heaps of unnecessary factory programs. The body does not seem to creak, everything is clear and strong. In general, I am satisfied and strongly recommend. Definitely worth your money.

The Japanese company Sony has not been famous for its affordable devices in recent years. The affairs of the mobile division of the corporation are not going very well, therefore, to keep afloat, the Japanese put a substantial markup on their phones. However, this is not Apple, and against the background of its counterparts in 2016, the Sony Xperia E5 F3311, released in May, looks affordable. Its price is from 190 US dollars.

The device received very budgetary, as at first glance, characteristics, but it also has positive aspects. What is the difference between a smartphone and twice as cheap Chinese counterparts, are there any clear advantages over them, and is it worth buying? Helps define the review.

The characteristics of the Xperia E5 F3311 are not surprising. A Chinese chipset, a standard screen - all this is also available for "nonames" for 80-100 dollars. At first glance, the smartphone does not match the inflated price tag.

Design, housing materials, dimensions and weight

Appearance Xperia E5 F3311 can be added to the list of advantages. Although it does not have metal body parts, it looks good. Externally, the smartphone is somewhat reminiscent of the flagship Z5 series, and the name echoes it. The dimensions of the smartphone are 14.4x6.9 cm, the thickness is 8.2 mm, and the device weighs 147 grams. Typical indicators for a five-inch device, if not for one "but": there are no buttons under the screen. Given this fact, the “chin” looks unreasonably wide.

The design of the rear panel (non-removable) is concise. It is flat, slightly rounded at the edges, in the middle there is a not very noticeable manufacturer's logo. Material - plastic, gray or white. In the very corner is a camera with a single LED flash (like the iPhone).

There is nothing on the front panel below (the standard 3 control buttons are on the display). At the top there is a speaker slot, a camera and a window for light and proximity sensors. The frames around the screen are too wide (3-4 millimeters).

The side ribs are not standard, as for Sony, but typical for other brands. On the right is the power / lock button, above it is the sound control rocker. At the top left is a slot for MicroSD and NanoSIM cards. On the top end there is a 3.5 mm headset jack and a second microphone. On the bottom is a speaker and a microUSB port.

CPU

Sony has previously practiced installing chipsets originally from Taiwan, so the presence of a MediaTek processor is not surprising. A little disappointing that this is a quad-core MT6735, with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. It is a cheaper competitor to the American Snapdragon 410, and the Chinese even put it in tubes for 80 USD. The processor is not a “brake” at all - it smoothly draws the interface, and it copes well with more complex tasks, but it looks modest against the background of more advanced models.

Responsible for 3D processing GPU Mali T720. It is quite capable of coping with modern toys, but one can only dream of high graphics settings. The smartphone is clearly not designed for gamers. In AnTuTu 6, the smartphone scores about 27 thousand points.

Memory

The amount of RAM in the Xperia E5 F3311 looks decent, as for a state employee. But for 200 "green" 1.5 GB LPDDR3 it may seem a little. But what can you do: after all, the Japanese need to eliminate stocks of 512 MB chips from warehouses, and 1.5 GB is better than 1. At the start, the system spends around 800 MB, 600-700 free. This is enough to ensure normal multitasking, programs do not crash for no reason.

Built-in storage has a capacity of 16 GB, available to the user up to 10. There is a slot for a memory card, it is separate. MicroSD modules up to 256 GB are supported. USB OTG, unfortunately not.

Battery

Sometimes Sony sins by installing small-capacity batteries, in the expectation that Stamina (proprietary power saving mode) will save. But Sony Xperia E5 F3311 bypassed this trouble, its battery has a capacity of 2700 mAh. Too bad it's not removable. Because of this, the question arises of how, in case of wear, to carry out a replacement without tearing apart a monolithic plastic case.

The autonomy indicators of the smartphone are quite typical and not far from the average. The battery will last up to 5 hours in games, about 7 hours - playing from YouTube, up to 10-11 - watching movies from memory. In standby mode, you can count on two days, with gentle use. Charger- at 1 A, with it charging lasts up to 3 hours.

cameras

The main camera of the Xperia E5 F3311 has a 13 MP sensor, supports autofocus, and is equipped with a single flash. Lens aperture - f / 2, matrix size - 1/3", pixels - 1.12 microns. Everything is standard and unremarkable. Taking photos during the day allows you to get acceptable quality, in the evening there are problems with this. The quality of the pictures, in general, is at the level some Xiaomi Mi4c, which is acceptable for this price category, but not ideal.

The front camera is 5 MP, with f/2.4 aperture, you should not expect a miracle from it. It's great for videoconferencing, but you can only take a good selfie during the day. In the evening - a lot of noise and artifacts, a slightly degraded aperture affects.

Video recording is in 1080p, with 30 FPS. Video recording at a low level. Autofocus works intermittently. The range of dynamics in the video is narrow, instead of the sky there are white spots, and nothing can be seen in the shadows.

Display

To Sony screens usually there are no complaints (they use high-quality JDI IPS matrices), the Xperia E5 F3311 is no exception. five inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, it is well read in the sun and at an angle, the brightness is distributed evenly, the color reproduction is natural. HD resolution may not seem like much to some, but at 5" pixel density, 293 PPI is enough.

The touchscreen is made of tempered glass (the manufacturer doesn't specify whether it's Gorilla or Asahi) and supports up to 4 touches. Oleophobic coating is available, its quality is quite good (better than Meizu M2 Mini).

Connection

In the post-Soviet region, it is on sale Sony version Xperia E5 F3311 for 1 SIM card, and the review is dedicated to it. There is also a model for 2 cards, but it is quite difficult to find it on sale. GSM, HSPA and LTE networks are supported, there are no problems with Russian operators.

Also on board are Wi-Fi operating in 2.4 and 5 GHz networks, and Bluetooth 4.1. The navigator supports GPS satellites. I am glad that there is an NFC module on board, which is not bad for a relatively inexpensive smartphone.

Operating system

Works Xperia E5 F3311 based on Android 6.1. There is a branded GUI Sony, but this is just a shell, not a big mod (like MIUI or FlymeOS for the Chinese). Overall, the system is very close to stock Marshmallow. The OS runs smoothly, without brakes. In order for slowdowns to appear in work, you either need to load the memory with programs, or open a page overloaded with various elements.

Sound

The smartphone does not have a dedicated DAC, so you should not expect fantastic quality from the sound. You can listen to music on the speaker, but you should not expect a wide frequency range. In headphones, the sound is typical of Sony (known as a "music" company). It is a little better than the Chinese for $ 100-150, but weaker and poorer than models with a separate sound chip. FM radio is available on board.

Pros and cons of the Sony Xperia E5 F3311

  • successful design;
  • normal battery;
  • decent (for the price range) sound;
  • good screen.
  • understated (as for a price of $ 200) characteristics.

Who is a smartphone for?

The smartphone will appeal to fans of inexpensive Japanese devices, as it is Sony's most affordable fresh device. It is designed for those who specifications not very important, the main thing is that everything works stably. The smartphone copes with modern tasks, and such users do not need more from it.

Our review of the Sony Xperia E5 F3311

The review showed that the Sony Xperia E5 F3311 is a good smartphone, although not without sins. It has a decent camera for its price, a good screen and a good design. We are pleased with the support for memory cards of almost any size (512 GB chips are not yet produced, but they should work). Upset only by the fact that the price bites a little. Still, almost $200 is somehow too much for a device with a cheap Chinese processor and only 1.5 GB of RAM.

Greetings, dear readers. Today we will talk about a spectacular relatively new Sony smartphone Xperia E5.

stylish body, instant internet and not bad characteristics make its acquisition a tempting offer. Let's see what is the secret of this inexpensive model and how else it can attract our attention.

So go ahead!

What will we see when we unpack the treasured box, certainly neat and equipped with recognizable Sony symbols?

A modest but high-quality set: in fact, a smartphone, a power supply and a USB cable. Of course, all the necessary documentation will be here.

Characteristics

Operating system, 5 inch HD screen with 720×1280 pixel resolution, RAM- 1.5 GB and total memory 16gb with support microSD cards The maximum size is up to 200GB.

For comparison, here is the same device from the previous C4 e5303 line, which only supports a 128 GB card. The latter, by the way, is just as good with its camera, thanks to which it is called a selfie smartphone.

Picking up the phone, we feel a high-quality light (about 150 grams) plastic case and can immediately evaluate the screen resolution.

Thanks to IPS technology and HD resolution, the gray city turns into a piece of photo art without much effort on your part. Here is this grandiose ability of Sony to make a holiday out of an ordinary picture, and turn the play of light and shadows into a “photo-canvas”.

All in all, our state-of-the-art 13 MP camera with built-in autofocus and flash still allows you more than what you might have originally thought.

The very "heart" and the very reason for the low performance is the MTK6735 quad-core chipset with a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz and the Mali-T720 GPU.

High-speed Internet model is provided by work in 4G Lte networks. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 work quickly here for data transfer. Additionally, there are also sensitive proximity and lighting sensors and FM radio.

This device today, on average, can be bought for 9-10 thousand rubles in various stores.

Design and construction

The smartphone is budget, but outwardly and in terms of tactile sensations it is perceived as a worthy rival to many of the most famous more expensive models.

The assembly and design leave a good impression. And now, flattered by the excellent appearance, you pick up a fairly light smartphone weighing 147 grams and with overall dimensions of 144 x 69 x 8.2 mm, which also allows it to be very neatly inserted into a proportional case and not look bulky at the same time.

The characteristic curves and contours of the body are similar to other smartphones, but at the same time original in their form.

The oleophobic coating of the screen makes your fingerprints on the surface almost invisible. Moreover, smartphones in both dark gray and white versions are equally non-marking.

On the top of the case is a 3.5 mm jack, as well as a microphone hole. Above the screen is a speaker in the form of an oblong strip, here is the front camera with a proximity sensor and adaptive brightness settings. A green indicator light above the screen flashes when charging.

We pass to the bottom of the smartphone. Here, however, quite a traditional lower location of the microUSB connector, but without a plug. Below is the main speaker. On the left side is a slot for a microSD memory card, and for a SIM or nanoSIM card here.

You just hook on the SIM card tray, and in response to this unpretentious action, two substrates come out at once. Even more ideal would be only trays on a spring with a “shooting” “sim card”.

The sound volume buttons fall under your right thumb, which is very convenient. True, not quite, on the other hand, being here below the power button. Not very convenient, in my opinion.

It remains to consider the back of the smartphone. Here, of course, the camera lens and flash immediately catches the eye. And of course, you can not ignore the applied, albeit without engraving, brand name Xperia.

Display

The 5" display is small enough to modern smartphone, but still not critical. The screen is easy to adjust the balance of colors and brightness. Its viewing angles are very good, and the oleophobic coating allows you to always look clean and tidy.

The screen resolution is only 1280 by 720 pixels, which is enough for a 5-inch size, but not enough for 2017.

Smartphone performance and features

As mentioned above, the device works on the MTK6735 chipset.

Of course, in fairness, it is worth noting that there are also small freezes when many applications are turned on. But in general, the high-quality modern smartphone firmware does not fail, it is simple and easy in “flight” and does not cause any particular complaints.

Of course, you won’t be able to play games on such a budget processor, and you will have to choose which game to install and which one you shouldn’t.

Working hours

The manufacturer promises us 1.5 days of stable operation of the phone. But with heavy use of the device during the day, the battery is depleted by the evening and not surprisingly, the capacity is only 2300 mAh.

Stamina and UltraStamina help to brighten up this characteristic a little. The power consumption of the phone drops when they are turned on, and, of course, to the detriment of some other functions. But there are quite ordinary or special situations when a smartphone should be a device for making calls first of all.

Chambers and findings

Focusing is not too fast, by the way, but in good light, very decent photos are obtained. Sony is a master at this.

In general, the gadget can be called very worthy for a small price. It is quite stylish though. Whether you choose the classic black smartphone or the attractive and sparkling white, it will look very presentable.

For the price requested by the manufacturer, which is about 9,000-10,000 rubles, you can buy such smartphones on Aliexpress as:

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X– from 9500 rubles in version 3/32

Xiaomi Redmi 4X– from 7600 rubles in version 3/32

Asusu Zenfone 4 Max from 9200 rubles in version 3/32

Lenovo zuk Z1 on Snapdragon 801— from 7900 rubles in version 3/64

Bluboo S8– frameless from 9600 rubles

That. you understand that for this price it is quite possible to buy a smartphone with characteristics a cut above that of our test subject. You choose.
