Keyboard repair and restoration. We repair the laptop keyboard with our own hands The button does not work how to fix it

Laptop owners periodically have a common problem - a key (or several at once) has flown off. This happens for many reasons: sloppy actions, pets, children playing, device falling, etc. Do not rush to service center, because replacing buttons is a simple procedure that you can do yourself.

You need to remove some keys immediately when filling the laptop with liquid. Removing the button is not a problem: you just need to pry the button with a sharp object, a small screwdriver or knife will do. But putting them back on is rather problematic. To restore the keyboard, you need to familiarize yourself with the design of each individual button.

Single key design

All laptops are different, but the principle of fastening the buttons, as well as their design, is approximately the same. On the reverse side of each panel there are several fasteners for the pressing mechanism (rocker, lift, latch). If the button fell off without a rocker, then putting it back is not difficult: you just need to slightly press the button, directing the fasteners into the appropriate grooves.

Installing a button that has flown off

The situation is somewhat more complicated if the part is broken, flying off along with the latch. To repair, you will need:

  1. Detach the latch from the key.
  2. Insert it into place.
  3. Install the button with a light touch (press until it clicks).

Dropping heavy objects sometimes causes the mounts on the keyboard itself to bend, which support the key rocker. They are made of flexible aluminum, so they can be easily repaired. It is important not to damage these aluminum mounts, otherwise it will be extremely problematic to assemble the keyboard. This can only be done in .

When installing individual buttons, you do not need to make any special efforts: the keys are placed in their usual place with a slight click. Strong pressure should be avoided so as not to damage the plastic fasteners.

Installing large buttons

Some keys (Ctrl, Shift, etc.) are large. To ensure even pressure, a metal stabilizer is used. Changing such a button is a little more difficult: before installation, you need to make fasteners for an iron bracket.

The gap is attached immediately to two fixing mechanisms, and a metal stabilizer is also used. But this does not make the installation of "Space" more difficult.

In some cases, the rocker (attachment mechanism) flies apart. Careless disassembly or a heavy object dropped on the keyboard leads to unforeseen situations. Despite its small size, the fastening mechanism is very simple and consists of only two parts. With the help of a needle, toothpick or nail file, the retainer is easy to assemble.

When installing the keys yourself, you should be extremely careful. Fragile plastic mounts are small, so damage is easy enough. Excessive force should be avoided so as not to break the key. Otherwise it will cost a lot more.

We constantly use mobile PC in our daily life. In it, the keyboard is the part of the device that takes on the most mechanical impacts.

The most common causes of breakdowns

The keyboard on a mobile PC has approximately the same structure as on a personal PC. She, like any device, is very sensitive to all kinds of pollution, animal hair, crumbs, and especially liquid spilled on it. After a certain time of using the keyboard, the buttons on the mobile PC fail or simply fall off.

Also, the simple banal cleaning of the keyboard using a vacuum cleaner for this purpose can be the cause of breakage of the buttons on a mobile PC. Or a small child may accidentally tear off a key. Also, the cause of such a breakdown can be pets that live with you. This also happens quite often. But you do not need to immediately carry a laptop for repair. You can often do everything yourself.

Button structure

Before considering how to insert a button on a laptop, you need to know its structure and attachment features.

The button consists of the key itself, the mechanism for holding it and a spring element with which it can be raised and lowered. Also there is a special film with platforms and paths.

The mount consists of two parts. These two parts are fastened together in the center with small "antennae". They come out of the inner part of the mount and are inserted into special grooves in the outer part. Thanks to this design, they can move when you press them. The button itself is attached to opposite sides.

Consider how to insert a button on a laptop

If a button has fallen out on your mobile PC, you do not need to immediately panic. In many cases, the problem resolves itself. At home, you can also solve the problem of how to insert a button into a laptop. To do this, it is enough to have a simple paper clip with you. Before inserting a button on a laptop to replace it, the old part must be removed from the keyboard. Working with the buttons on a mobile PC requires more care, as they are flatter and can be damaged if pressed hard. The removal of the element is as follows. It is necessary to straighten the paper clip into a straight line and pass the keys under the lower platform. Now you need to pull it towards you, and the key will jump off its base.

Now let's figure out how to insert a button on a laptop, provided that all the "antennae" located on the "rocker" and the grooves are not affected. This is the easiest way. To do this, the button must be installed in the upper position on the base under the necessary fastening. After it falls into place, the key must be gently pressed down.

It should be noted that it is not necessary to apply force when installing the keys. Any pressing must be done smoothly and easily.

After installation, you need to carefully check the fastening of the replaced key. When buying new buttons, you need to check whether they will fit your laptop model. If you need to change several details, then it is better to do it gradually. In order not to confuse the location on the keyboard.

Before inserting a button on a laptop, you need to carefully check that the plastic mount, which is located under the key itself, is in place. It may seem at once that it is very difficult to dock everything. But in fact, this is not entirely true, because in reality there can be only one correct option. You won't install anything else.

How to insert a large button

Consider how to insert a button on a large laptop. These are such keys as Space, Tab, Shift, Enter. In addition to the "rocker", which is made of plastic, they can also have a metal stabilizer. It is necessary so that the key is pressed evenly. On the inside there are two lugs needed to attach the stabilizer to them. Immediately you need to start its ends. Next, we put the antennae of the “rocker” into the grooves and put the button in its place by slightly pressing it.

The spacebar rests on several "rocker" and on the stabilizer. A situation may arise that the "rocker" can be disassembled. It is easy to assemble using a needle or a toothpick for this. One side must be inserted into the groove, and the second is installed using a needle.

Consider how to insert a button on a laptop in which the mount is made using metal brackets instead of a plastic swing. Mounting here is also easy. Only it should be noted, it will be more noisy.

How to fix a button on a laptop

It must be clearly understood that an attempt to repair a button will most often be only one. This must be taken into account before putting the button on the laptop. Before starting the necessary work, you must have the following tools available:

We place the broken mount on it workplace. We take a needle and a soldering iron. We apply the needle to the place of the broken antennae and see that it goes there a few millimeters. We heat it with a soldering iron and melt it into the mount. We bite off the unnecessary part of the needle. We clean off excess plastic.

Consider another option, how to put a button on a laptop. We heat the needle with a lighter and make a groove with it, in which you can put, for example, a lint or something like that. We put it in the groove and glue it with superglue

How to make a new button

If the button stops working, do not rush to immediately throw it away. Maybe she just sunk down, and she can be put in place. If not, then the button must first be carefully considered. If it just cracked a little, then it can be glued with simple superglue. Only the most important thing is that her contact is in the same place.

If the key cannot be glued, you can make it yourself. Consider how to make a button on a laptop yourself. To do this, you must have plasticine with you. From plasticine you need to make the necessary shape and fill it with resin. There you need to lower the contact. It must be installed correctly. To make it smooth, it can be trimmed with ordinary sandpaper. So, we figured out how to make a button on a laptop at home. In some cases, this is easier than taking your mobile PC in for repair.

If the button just fell out

If the button fell out of the laptop, you must perform these steps. With her reverse side there are grooves and latches. They have "rocker ears". Their purpose is to connect the button to the keyboard. If the key with the "rocker" has fallen out, they must be disconnected. Then the "rocker" is installed. It will have a button cover. They are interconnected by the grooves that are on them.

So, we figured out how to put a button on a laptop. As you can see, this is not very difficult to do, and in many cases you can solve the problem without contacting a service center.

The keyboard is an indispensable device for operating personal computers and laptops. The breakdown of this component makes work and leisure at the computer completely inconvenient. Are faults with the input device correctable? How to fix the keyboard yourself? We will discuss this issue in detail in this article.

The main types of faults

It's no secret that these devices can have different shapes and additional keys with the appropriate functionality. Even take the same multimedia keyboard, which has a number of special keys at the top. Pretty convenient, right?

But what to do if several keys have stopped doing their job or the entire keyboard has completely failed? You can certainly buy a new device, but then you need to be prepared to spend 10-100 dollars on new device. Why waste money when you can get your old device up and running? Prepare a soldering iron, a Phillips screwdriver, a tester and read the description of the solution to problems for several cases.

Keyboard not fully working

The most common cause breakdowns are a break in the connection of wires inside the USB cable that we are used to using to connect an input device to a computer.

Important! Most often, the break occurs at the base of the keyboard itself or near the connection connectors.

In order to establish the exact cause of the breakdown, you need to look at the operation of the LEDs, which are usually located in the upper right corner of the device. If the keyboard is “healthy”, then all three lights should flash and go out during the reboot of the computer. If this did not happen, then you need to arm yourself with a multimeter (or any other testers) and ring the cable. To do this, do the following:

  1. Turn the device over, take a screwdriver and unscrew all the screws that hold the cover.
  2. You will see a “film” in front of you with big amount tracks. Also inside the keyboard is printed circuit board and a small chip, which is a black blob.
  3. The wire itself must be soldered to the board. We need to verify the integrity of his connection to her. We take a multimeter, turn on an ohmmeter on it and call desired area. You can also ring the diode, which is much more convenient because of the beep.
  4. If at least one “vein” does not ring out, then replacing a wire with a defect cannot be avoided. You can try to bite off with wire cutters that part of the wire that is located at the point of passage into the keyboard case.
  5. If everything is in order with the wires, then the matter is most likely in the microcircuit itself. Then you will definitely have to run to the store for a new one.
  6. There is a possibility that the problem lies in the connector itself. Inspect it carefully for defects and align the bent legs with a thin, hard object, if there are any defects.

We figured out the return of the whole device to life, but how to fix the button on the computer keyboard?

Keyboard works but not fully

Often we spill something on the desktop, and it’s good if the liquid didn’t get on the keyboard from the computer, because if the keyboard gets wet, then several buttons or even all at once may fail to work. Also, strong mechanical stresses, which sometimes happen by accident, can lead to partial damage. What to do in all these cases? Let's talk about each method of how to fix the keyboard in detail.

Spilled liquid

Did your favorite tea end up on your input device? Immediately disconnect the gadget from the computer and wait for it to dry completely. If after that several buttons became unusable, then the following recovery method will help you:

  • Remove all keys in order to open access to the space under them. Use thin objects or copper wire loops for this.

Important! If you are a novice user, we recommend that you save a photo of the location of the keys to your computer so that the assembly goes smoothly.

  • Set the keys aside and turn the keyboard over. Now unscrew about a dozen screws holding the cover.
  • Remove the cover and the film with the tracks, very carefully wipe them with a cotton swab, which should be moistened with alcohol. Let the film dry completely.
  • Again, take a cotton swab moistened with alcohol and wipe the space under the keys.
  • It remains to collect everything back and check the device for operability.

Mechanical influences

The keyboard device contains contact pads and conductive rubber. All of them are located directly below the keyboard buttons. Sometimes minor damage to the tracks can be repaired using special compounds that can conduct current. They are applied to the tracks and bases of conductive rubber. But repairs are not always possible if the device has been used for a very long time.

Important! Users who are fond of typing may forget about repairing it altogether, since there is no point in it. Quick wear and tear will return everything “to its place”.

laptop keyboard or desktop computer- one of the most frequently used technical inventions. Write a letter, fill out a form on the site, play a game - for all this, it is simply necessary. But from prolonged use, the keyboard buttons break. Can you fix them yourself?

You will need

  • - thick needle;
  • - curved clip.

Instruction

  • Inspect the keyboard and determine the cause of the failure. Usually the button, breaking, just jumps out. It is necessary to consider in detail what exactly broke in this moment. Pay attention to the principle of fastening the buttons on the keyboard. The basis for the button is a small square-lock, which unfolds like a "clamshell". Mounting points are also marked on the base. The button itself has pins according to the size of the base mounts.
  • Take a thick needle to correct the situation if, when the button breaks, its “clamshell” has lost its properties, as the frames have come off. The task is to connect the two frames of the base again. Gently and carefully, measuring the force of movement, insert the fastening pins of one part of the base into the recesses of its other part and fix this position.
  • After that, take a curved paperclip. It is needed in order to install the button after fixing the "clamshell" in the correct position. Slightly lift the “clamshell” with a paperclip and in this position, set the button from above. Press lightly until the latch clicks.
  • If the keyboard button "exploded" under the fingers and flew out along with the latch, then you need to disassemble the button. To do this, disconnect the “clamshell”-latch by snapping off one end and pulling the other out of the ears.
  • On the keyboard, find three tabs for the latch - one larger and two small. Take the latch and slide it onto the mounts, starting with the large one. Please note that the lugs are made of aluminum and break easily, after which the button repair turns into a keyboard repair.
  • After the latch is hooked on the large eye, lightly press until it clicks, push the other two fasteners. Then install the top of the button by simply aligning the slots of the "clamshell" latch with the protrusions of the cap.
  • Hello dear readers. Sometimes a situation arises when something fell on a laptop and the keys were damaged or flew out. Like in the picture below 🙂

In this case, our task is to fulfill the correct laptop key repair on one's own. This procedure is quite simple, but without understanding how the keys on a laptop are arranged, you can easily aggravate the situation.

    Laptop button repair

So consider a step-by-step repair of laptop keys. If you have a piece of a key broken off, then it is better not to try to glue something and attach it all back. The buttons of any keyboard are twitched frequently. So this key will not last long.

Therefore, in order not to waste your time and energy, I recommend contacting the nearest service center, where these buttons should be in bulk 🙂

Depending on the model, laptop button repair may differ. But the approximate principle of fastening on latches and rockers that you will have can be seen below.

As you can see, the key on the keyboard is fixed by a special rocker (the ears of which you could see under the key). The rocker itself consists of several parts with a hinged connection principle.

In the case when the rocker flew off along with the key, you will first need to return the rocker and only then proceed to repair the laptop keys.

After the successful return of the rocker to its place, we take over the keys. Carefully slide the protrusions on the rocker into the grooves of the lid.

After the ears have entered the grooves, we fix the button with light pressure.

When repairing large laptop buttons, such as for example - "space". You can see a metal stabilizer under the button. It is necessary for uniform keystroke.

This stabilizer is attached additionally to the keyboard lining. In this regard, the principle of fixing will be slightly different. To start the end of the stabilizer, we start it in special holes.
