Design

Both smartphones received plastic cases, and both are not afraid to fall into the water, which makes them useful in most situations when simple phones refuse to work. So you can shoot both photos and videos even in the rain, without fear that the phone will be damaged. In addition, HTC is already creating a more stylish design, it is worth recognizing - HTC Desire EYE looks attractive due to its shape and monolithic body. In contrast, the Galaxy S5 is still thinner and more sophisticated in design, but it lacks charm compared to the Desire EYE.

Display

Being modern smartphones, Galaxy S5 and HTC Desire EYE delight us with their displays, although technically they used different technologies. The smartphone from HTC traditionally has a LCD display with Full HD resolution and a diagonal of 5.2 inches. It does its job very well - outdoors the picture is clearly distinguishable, and the color reproduction is quite neutral. As for the Galaxy S5, it has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This screen impresses us with wide viewing angles, richer color reproduction, and adaptation to lighting conditions. However, slightly oversaturated colors may not be to everyone's liking, which is corrected in the settings. In the end, it's a matter of personal preference.

Interface

We have already compared both user interface from Samsung and HTC. Therefore, we will not dwell on the details. HTC did a nice job of optimizing the camera app on the Desire EYE, but everything else is mostly left untouched, so it's the same as before. Meanwhile, if you prefer more modern design and a simplified interface, you'll love Sense 6.0. At the same time, Samsung's TouchWiz UI has a lot of unique features and software features, although many will find that this greatly complicates the interface. However, many people appreciate Samsung's desire to add useful features to the smartphone.

Processor and Memory

Looking under the body of smartphones, we immediately know that we are dealing with flagships. To be precise, both have Snapdragon 801 quad-core processors with a frequency of 2.3GHz, as well as 2GB of RAM. It turns out that on this moment these are typical characteristics of flagship-class Android smartphones. Even when testing work, they show the same interface response rate.

Camera

Needless to say, we're happy to see that HTC has decided to install a high-resolution 13-megapixel camera in the Desire EYE - instead of the ultra-pixel camera found in the HTC One M8. However, the flagship Galaxy S5 still has an even higher 16-megapixel camera, and you already know from our previous reviews and comparisons how good it is and what its drawbacks are, especially in low light. With such remarks, the Desire EYE camera will seriously compete with the S5 camera. However, when it comes to video recording, the EYE is limited to 1080p, while the S5 can shoot video at 4K resolution.

The Galaxy S5 hit the market during a busy holiday season, meaning it's been on sale for quite some time now, but it still remains a strong contender in the market despite fierce competition. For a model that is a few months old, it remains relevant, although there are many other Android smartphones with similar characteristics. Of course, HTC Desire EYE has just appeared, but even now it looks very interesting and has quite a lot of strengths to get your attention.


















Taiwanese manufacturer HTC previously held a large market share, but since 2015, its share has declined. And when everyone already thought that HTC was not able to compete with global manufacturers, the company announced itself with a new flagship line - first One, and then the U series.

Technical and physical execution on highest level. There is literally nothing to complain about - the phone is solid, monolithic, the Edge Sense panels work accurately and simplify the process of using a "shovel".
