I share my experience with you.

Ground balance

I, of course, read the relevant instructions in the user manual when I bought the metal detector. But I didn't understand. Thanks to my research on YouTube, I began to adjust the ground balance as follows.

First I look for an area where there are no signals, a quiet place. Then I drive the coil up and down 10-15 cm and back. The X-Terra 305 has 20 ground balance levels. 1 produces a low sound and 20 produces a high sound. Start with one of these numbers and move the coil up and down as you lower or higher the setting. Find the point where high and low sound intersect and the detector becomes silent.

And this must be done every time the composition of the soil changes. Sometimes you may not notice this, so adjust the ground balance when you get to a new place, and then check from time to time, especially if you decide to go from the field to the path, etc.

Threshold

Set the Threshold in the mid-range because too low, bassy hum will only distract you, and if set to high, almost inaudible, you won't hear any pauses in that hum (which equals weak signals). I set the threshold tone to the brink of audibility.

Discrimination

I didn’t know much about discrimination before buying a metal detector. And I also knew that when I turned it on, I might miss good targets. However, in reality, having walked in the “all metals” mode, I decided that I could not afford to listen to the constant trills of the device and look for cool color signals among the cacophony.
