Powerful, stylish, modern - this is how you can characterize one of the flagships of 2014, the Lenovo Vibe X2 smartphone. Since the presentation, the device has won the hearts of many connoisseurs of stylish gadgets and to this day remains one of the desired smartphones, although it is not without flaws. But first things first…

Equipment

Despite the premium segment, the package bundle is quite common: the smartphone itself, headphones, Charger, microUSB cable, SIM eject tool and a set of documentation. Depending on the store, the equipment can be expanded with a protective film and a protective case.

Specifications

The European version of the smartphone is equipped with a powerful 8-core MediaTek 6595M processor with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz. The device has 2 GB of RAM and, depending on the modification, 16 or 32 GB of internal memory.

Screen Lenovo Vibe X2 has a high-quality 5-inch IPS matrix with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. As for the cameras, there are two of them in the device: the front one is 5 MP, and the main one is 13 MP.

The phone has one SIM card and supports GSM, WCDMA and LTE networks:

  • 2G (850/900/1800/1900)
  • 3G (2100/900/850)
  • 4G (LTE FDD Band 1/3/7, TDD B40, LTE FDD Band 1/3/7/30)

The dimensions of the device are: 140.2 x 68.6 x 7.27 mm, and the weight is 120 grams.

The battery capacity is 2300 mAh. With the active use of the smartphone, its charge will be enough for 1-1.5 days of battery life. The device has a power saving mode, which will increase the operating time of the device without the need for recharging.

In the AnTuTu test, the device issues 49219.

By default, Lenovo Vibe X2 runs on Android 4.4 operating system, but in the second quarter of 2015 will receive an update to Android 5.0. You can find out what other devices will be updated to Lollipop from the article:

Appearance

The smartphone has a thin body, narrow bezels and a multi-layered metal construction in various colors, which gives the device an unusual appearance.

On the front side of the device are: a voice speaker, a front camera, light and proximity sensors, a high-quality 5-inch screen and navigation buttons.

On the back is the main camera, flash, microphone, Lenovo logo, main speaker and special contacts for connecting additional accessories.

Headphones are connected through a special connector located on the top of the device.

The microUSB port is located on the bottom of the smartphone.

Video review

pros

  • stylish design
  • the most powerful stuffing
  • quality screen
  • great cameras
  • OTG support.

minuses

  • no memory card slot
  • relatively weak battery.

Lenovo Vibe X2 is an excellent choice for those who do not plan to keep a whole archive of movies and a lot of “heavy” toys on their device, although any of them will easily start up and work well on this device.

Lenovo managed to become the first computer manufacturer in the world, and now they are actively expanding into the smartphone market. The manufacturer places its special hopes on Vibe X2. Here, a high-resolution screen, a powerful processor, a flashy design - in general, the bet is justified. Let's take a closer look at what this smartphone can offer us.

Equipment

The box from the device is a separate conversation. It is small, multi-layered and somewhat reminiscent of a box. On the side, you can find a protruding ribbon. He pulled it, took out the first box with the apparatus beautifully laid there. Pulled for the second — took out accessories.

By the way, in addition to the usual MicroUSB cable and a 5V and 1.5A power supply, there is protective film, as well as a transparent glossy case ala Crystal Case. In general, the manufacturer thought about the user.

Design

I called the Vibe X2 a sandwich smartphone for a reason. At its core, it has a multilayer design and it looks really interesting, I would even say stylish. For some, this may be a disappointment, but the smartphone is entirely made of plastic. There is no metal here at all. Nevertheless, when you take the device in your hand, you forget about this moment. Plastic here does not scream about economy, as is often the case with other manufacturers. One Korean electronics giant is particularly guilty of this. Well, you know what I mean.

Here the colors are bright and the surface is pleasant to the touch. In addition, the use of polymeric materials has led to weight reduction. Indeed, for a five-inch smartphone, 120 grams is very little. The device is light, but the lack of heaviness does not spoil the impression.

From the end it can be seen that three components are used, which are connected into one. All of them are made flush. However, the glass panel on the front side is slightly smaller in area, and accordingly looks apart.

Above the screen is a speaker grill, front camera, proximity and light sensors. Where without them?

Below are the control buttons for the device. They are touch sensitive and illuminate in the dark by moonlight. The advantage is that they do not take up display space. The downside lies in their strange shape. There is no usual house and other designations. People who are used to some other Android will have to get used to it for the first few days, by typing to determine what each of the keys means.

On the right side, there are beautifully polished power and volume buttons.

The left side is occupied only by the tray for the SIM card. By the way, it is made of metal and looks quite massive.

On the top is a 3.5mm headphone jack, and on the bottom is a tiny microphone hole and a microUSB port. There is no infrared sensor, no NFC module, support for memory cards and the OTG protocol is also missing. Not rich equipment, but could be better.

The back cover shimmers a little with a pearly color. Looks very elegant. The brand name flaunts in the center, and closer to the top edge is the camera, single-section flash and a hole for the rear microphone.

At the bottom is the speaker grid. The design is not the best, as the sound is decently muffled on a flat surface when the smartphone is face down. Nearby there is a platform of contacts for connecting a special case with a built-in battery.

Now about ergonomics. You can type messages, flip through browser pages - in most cases, one hand is enough for this. dimensions allow.

By the way, it will be interesting to compare the smartphone with its main competitors in these parameters:

Length Width Thickness Weight
Lenovo Vibe X2

140,2

68,6

7,27

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

132,4

65,5

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

64,9

Huawei Ascend P7
Apple iPhone 5S

123,8

58,6

Regarding design and convenience, the following conclusion can be drawn. Lenovo Vibe X2 is very comfortable in everyday use, has a high-quality body, even if it is made of plastic, as well as a nice design. In our area with long winters, such bright colors will look very appropriate. By the way, the following colors are available for sale:

Smartphone display

On the front side there is a Gorilla Glass glass panel (generation not specified) with an oleophobic coating.

The 5-inch screen plays a decisive role in favor of ease of use, and Full HD resolution is the best fit for such a diagonal.

The pixel density per square inch is 441 ppi. This is more than enough.

Installing QuadHD for such dimensions is not justified. Individual pixels cannot be seen with the naked eye.

The photo below compares the Vibe X2 displays (above) with the iPhone 5S:

The color reproduction is good, since the IPS-matrix is used. When tilted, the situation remains the same - no fading occurs, however, in comparison with the apple device, a slight greenish tint is visible.

Dissatisfied with the standard gamut, they can choose other display settings from preset profiles or play with the slider, moving it from warm tones to cooler tones.

The menu contains the ClearMotion function, the essence of which is that the chipset, while watching a video, increases the frame rate of the video to 60, thereby ensuring its smooth playback. Indeed, the video on the smartphone screen due to this feature looks very alive!

Specifications Lenovo Vibe X2:

  • MediaTek MT6595M processor: four cores run at 2.0 GHz, four others at 1.69 GHz
  • PowerVR G6200MP4 video chip
  • RAM 2 GB LPDDR3 933 MHz (after download 966 MB)
  • built-in memory 32 GB (actually available 25.68 GB)
  • display 5 "with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (density 441 ppi)
  • main camera 13 megapixels
  • front camera 5 megapixels
  • OC Android 4.4.2
  • connectors: 3.5 mm, microUSB, Micro SIM
  • sensors: compass, accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor
  • battery (non-removable, lithium-polymer) 2300 mAh
  • SAR value: 0.375 - 0.589 W/kg
  • 2G, 3G, 4G (FDD bands 1, 3, 7, 20)
  • WiFi (b/g/n/ac)
  • Bluetooth 3.0+4.1LE
  • FM radio
  • GPS/GLONASS

The manufacturer decided to install a solution from MediaTek under the MT6595M index. Let's take a closer look at this organ.

Firstly, this chip is unique in that all cores can work simultaneously: 4 of them are ARM Cortex-A7, operate at a frequency of 1.7 GHz, and 4 other ARM Cortex-A17, in this case, are used at 2.0 GHz . The processor scheme varies depending on the task.

Of course, the power consumption of the battery is not forgotten either. If necessary, the system reduces the maximum frequency in favor of a reasonable use of battery resources and the absence of overheating. That is why the Chinese smartphone has on board a version of the processor with a limited frequency. This one is indicated by the letter "M" in the model index.

The PowerVR G6200MP4 video chip is responsible for graphics processes, the frequency of which is again reduced to 400 MHz instead of the maximum possible 600. Again, saving battery resources.

By the way, for LTE support the same processor, and not a separate chip, is responsible. Cat.4 is used, but this is quite enough for our current realities.

The only frustrating thing is the lack of NFC and the ability to connect flash drives in USB-Host mode.

Yes, despite the fact that OTG support was announced on other information resources, this is still not here. So, with a few exceptions technical specifications Vibe X2 impress with their innovation. The product from MediaTek, I am sure, will provide the smartphone with a long life among current devices for the next couple of years.

Performance

Let's look at the test results.

In general, the brains of the phone provide it with a very serious performance, at the level of the flagships of this and early next year.

We have already talked about the processor and other components. Their resources are enough for the vast majority of tasks, including heavy toys. Now let's talk about the behavior of the system as a whole.

The Lenovo Launcher shell is debugged for the most part well. Desktops and animations flutter spectacularly. However, there are occasional glitches. Either the “Back” button will not work immediately, then the screen unlock icon will stop responding to pressing, and the multitasking mode is no, no, but it will think for a couple of seconds - the user will definitely have to face this. It's not annoying, but it catches the eye regularly.

As for launching applications, there are no problems. Everything is loaded quickly, I did not notice errors and random crashes of applications.

Front-camera

The front photo module has 5 megapixels, and the frames have a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The quality of the photos is very good.

There are various ways to take pictures: tap, voice, self-timer, wave your hand or blink your eyes. The last two work far from the first time. Maybe I'm just blinking somehow unobvious. I'm at a loss with an answer.

Of course, there is no LED flash on the front, as in the Sony Xperia C3, but there is a function to fill the viewfinder with pink or yellow. In the dark, it's still better than nothing.

Camera Lenovo Vibe X2

The main photo module is capable of creating frames with a resolution of 4096 x 2304 pixels - this is 13 megapixels. The most interesting thing is that in the settings there is no option to select a specific resolution. The user can choose only the aspect ratio of the frame: 16:9, 4:3 or one to one.

Perhaps this is the correct approach. Ask yourself how often do you prefer, for example, a 1280 x 720 pixel photo over a higher resolution? Personally, I never. I always want the best quality available.

The shots are good. Color rendition, sharpness, blurring of the background - everything is very decent.

The camera, of course, is not the best possible, but for the price of the device it is very good. Usually, manufacturers save money at this point, but Lenovo did not go for it.

The only negative point is shooting at night. Here all the flaws and nuances come out.

Autofocus often misses, and the pictures are fuzzy. In general, night shooting is the weak point of the phone.

As an example, I have given below a composite shot with various ISO settings. The conditions were as follows: a dark room, a smartphone is fixed on a tripod, the subject is standing still and smiling.

Movies can be recorded in Full HD resolution. Recording is smooth, without twitching. However, if there is not enough ambient light, then the video looks sad. Let's see an example.

Battery

The smartphone has a 2300 mAh lithium polymer battery. With moderate use of all the functions of the device: two hours of surfing via Wi-Fi and LTE, half an hour of using other programs, creating a dozen photos - the device is not able to survive until the night.

With a fully charged battery in the morning, in the evening there will most likely be no more than 10 percent. Runtime for X2 is a sore subject.

The problem lies in the high-resolution display and powerful processor. The capacity of the battery (there were no records) is not enough for the operation of these main energy guzzlers for a period of more than a day. Of course, if you do not touch the device at all, then it can live for 4 days, or maybe more, but such a smartphone is usually not bought for this.

If you actively play modern 3D toys, then the device will sit down in a matter of hours. Obviously you should not go far from the outlet if you like to play.

In the settings, you can activate the energy saving profile. In this case, the device turns into a dialer with an alarm function. Battery savings are not huge, but still.

Sound

The bundled headset is only useful for answering calls. The sound quality through it will suit only inexperienced users. For everyone else, it makes sense to use your usual headphones.

There is no proprietary program for playing audio files. You can download something to your liking from the app store or stop at Play Music from Google.

I tested the quality of audio playback through this utility and with my good old Koss Porta Pro. The sound quality is comparable to the Apple iPhone 5S, both in terms of frequencies and volume.

Overview of software features

All applications are right on desktops. They are installed and removed right from here. Of course, you can resort to the help of the software manager, but for most cases it is not needed.

Desktops are fully customizable. You can choose different themes, set your wallpaper, create folders - everything is the same as always.

Special thanks to the developers for the themes. The ability to install the shell you like right out of the box is not an extra way to customize the appearance for the user. The upside is that all these actions are safer than installing and running third-party themes that may not be compatible with the system. It's a pity that the choice is limited to only six skins available by default.

I sincerely do not like it when the manufacturer tries to impose on the user the use of some programs. Previously, this was a problem for almost all laptops, and now the trend is spreading to mobile devices.

So, by default, an “essential” antivirus called Security is installed and running.

It successfully cuts suspicious activity, including various notifications from Viber and other necessary applications. It is impossible to remove this program by standard means. I stopped all processes associated with this antivirus and stopped fighting the utility.

Usually Google sins with such behavior, which requires manufacturers to place their company store in the most prominent place. I am convinced that developers do not need to connect to these games either! There is a fine line here, where overdoing it means losing the loyalty of fans.

We return to our topic. Additional chips are provided that simplify communication with the phone. So, you can wake up the screen or send it to sleep by double-tapping. It's comfortable!

In addition, you can take a picture right from sleep mode by double tapping on the Home icon. A useful feature when you need to take a photo very quickly and there is no time for the usual launch of the photo application.

But the gesture to launch the photo application, when you just need to raise the phone in a horizontal orientation, did not work for me. Maybe I did something wrong.c

In addition, depending on the time of day, sound profiles are configured. For example, from 9 am the vibration is activated, and from 19:00 there is already a full volume of calls. Turn on Wi-Fi can be tied to a location and so on. These, of course, are not breakthrough settings, but it's good that the manufacturer cares so much about its consumers.

Buy Lenovo Vibe X2?

At the moment, they are asking for a smartphone price at 16,990 19,990 rubles. This is very interesting offer! And here is what a potential buyer can get for this money:

  • great bright design
  • powerful and modern stuffing
  • quality Full HD display
  • good camera

However, you will have to put up with the low level of autonomy of the smartphone and in some places the slowing down system.

As for the latter, I'm probably nitpicking. Minor interface brakes are not some serious drawback. There are not many of them, and the frequency of firmware updates gives hope for full software optimization in the near future. But a weak battery is really a nuance that must be taken into account when buying.

However, I think the Lenovo Vibe X2 is a good buy. Few competitors can offer so many quality components in one device, and even for that kind of money. Against the backdrop of all the advantages of the device, one day of battery life is something you can live with. Just hurry up, the cost of a smartphone can change very soon.

A large number of modern smartphone manufacturers are trying to draw attention to their devices through a kind of "arms race", which is expressed in increasing the display size, the number of processor cores, camera resolution and others. important parameters. Therefore, sometimes it turns out that a smartphone has received rather interesting technical characteristics, but from the outside it does not stand out in any way from its competitors - the same unsightly monoblock, of which there are a lot on the market. All this is well understood by Lenovo, which knows how to create not only interesting gadgets in terms of cost/feature ratio, but may surprise potential buyer original appearance. In this regard, models of the Lenovo VIBE line stand out pleasantly, having absorbed advanced technical characteristics and interesting design. A vivid example of this is the hero of our next review -

This model received an original and rather refined design using high-quality construction materials. All this is wonderfully complemented by a 5-inch Full HD IPS display, a high-performance MediaTek MT6595M processor, a 13 MP main camera and a number of others, no less interesting features which we will discuss in detail below. Delivery and equipment

The novelty comes in a relatively compact cardboard box. The design is dominated by pale gray shades, combined with a specific pattern and a minimum level of information content. Structurally, it resembles a kind of drawer with drawers, made in the same multilayer colors as the device itself. Depending on the color of the smartphone, the packaging changes its palette. On top of this design, there is a dust jacket with the logo of the device line and the main characteristics of the smartphone. Thus, the packaging of Lenovo VIBE X2 looks quite original and pleasant.

The kit will include the following accessories:

  • user guide;
  • warranty card;
  • charger 5 W (5V, 1A);
  • micro-USB↔USB cable;
  • transparent plastic case;
  • protective film on the screen;
  • a clip for the SIM card tray;
  • headset with headphones vacuum design.

In general, the Lenovo Vibe X2 package can be described as quite generous. There is everything necessary not only for full-fledged work with the device, but also for its protection from external negative influences.

Separately, it should be noted that Lenovo offers to purchase two interesting accessories for this model: Battery Xtension and Hi-Fi Xtension. The first of them is a replaceable battery, which allows you to double the autonomy of the novelty with a slight thickening of the case (by 5.1 mm). The second accessory will appeal to music lovers. It is a JBL Hi-Fi speaker (Bluetooth connection), which, when mounted, increases the thickness of the smartphone by 8.3 mm and can play the role of a stand.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

If you look only at the front panel of the smartphone, it seems that we have an ordinary strict rectangle with rounded corners. But upon closer inspection of Lenovo VIBE X2, you can see an unusual multi-layer edging that resembles a kind of rainbow (especially in bright colors), a cut of mineral rock or a sheet cake with smooth transitions of gradients. The main tone is set by the color of the back panel, which can be white, gold, red or dark gray.

There are only three such separate multi-colored layers, and the fourth is always black (panel with a screen and protective glass). In addition, it is somewhat narrower and thinner than the others. In practice, such a solution looks very interesting and extraordinary, which pleasantly distinguishes the novelty from its plain competitors. In addition, due to the small thickness (7.27 mm) and weight (120 g), the device looks quite slender.

The front side of the smartphone (without any inscriptions and logos) is reserved for the display, which is covered with a strong protective glass. Along the contour, it has barely noticeable sides that slightly raise the screen above a flat surface. The width of the frames around the display is 3 mm on the sides and 15 mm on the top and bottom.

Above the display are: a speaker, proximity and light sensors, a peephole of the front camera and an event indicator (the control point is present in the settings). The latter, in the presence of calls or alerts, flashes green, while charging - red, and when the battery is charged - green. Below the display are three conventional touch control keys: "Menu", "Home" and "Back". They are equipped with unobtrusive illumination (you can turn it off or set the operating time in the settings).

The plastic edging is made of separate layers (in our case - white, silver and gray). They have slightly different levels, which is felt even tactile. The performance is quite high quality, but there are slight gaps between the layers, which can collect dirt and dust.

At the top, in splendid isolation, there is only a universal audio jack (mini-jack 3.5 mm). The bottom edge is reserved for the micro-USB connector and the microphone hole.

On the right side of the Lenovo VIBE X2 case are ordinary elements controls: "Power / Lock" key and volume rocker, which imitate metal with a thin concentric notch. The left side (closer to the top end) sheltered a metal tray for a Micro SIM card, which opens a little with the included paper clip. It should be noted that for the Asian market there is a version of the device with two SIM cards (article "X2-TO").

The rear non-separable side is made of a rather practical matte plastic, which actively counteracts the appearance of fingerprints and minor scratches. At the top is the main camera lens (framed in chrome edging at the same level as the body) with a single-section flash (the Flashlight application is present) and an additional microphone.

Below is the silver Lenovo logo. In the lower left corner there is a wide perforated area for outputting sound from the multimedia speaker, next to it are contacts for connecting accessories.

Thanks to the non-separable case, the novelty offers excellent build quality and excellent structural rigidity. There are no backlashes or extra sounds with moderate attempts at torsion and pressure. Divorces and other artifacts on the display were also not noticed. The materials used give hope for a long service life.

Once again, it should be noted the complete transparent plastic bumper, which successfully performs its protective functions and at the same time does not hide main feature smartphone designs - layered design.

In general, Lenovo VIBE X2 is characterized by an original and rather refined appearance, combined with comfortable ergonomics, which leaves a positive impression of acquaintance. Due to its relatively compact dimensions (140.2 x 68.6 mm), the device fits well in the average palm, and does not burden the pockets of trousers or a jacket at all. The controls (with a clear and moderately tight move) are in good places and are easily found blindly. Branded advantages have not disappeared anywhere either: waking up the smartphone using the “Volume” key or blocking and waking up by double-tapping in the free area of the screen, which greatly simplifies the life of the user.

Display

The Lenovo Vibe X2 smartphone is equipped with an IPS touch matrix protected by ultra-strong tempered glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3. There is no air gap between the glass and the sensor (using OGS technology), which positively affects image quality and maximum viewing angles, but increases the cost of repairs (if necessary). you will have to replace the entire display unit). There is a good anti-reflective filter and an excellent oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating. Thanks to this, a rather comfortable and easy sliding of fingers is ensured and the rate of accumulation of prints is reduced, and those that appear are easily removed with a fiber or a regular napkin. In addition, to protect the glass, you can use the complete film, which the manufacturer prudently took care of.

The resolution of the 5-inch screen is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), which, in our opinion, is the best indicator for such a diagonal. At the same time, the pixel density is 440 ppi, which is quite enough for displaying very smooth fonts and obtaining a highly detailed image in general. Even with a strong desire, individual pixels are unlikely to be considered.

The screen is characterized by wide viewing angles with minimal color deviation when viewed diagonally. The image boasts natural colors with just the right amount of saturation and enough contrast to create a truly realistic image. Screen brightness can be adjusted manually or set to automatic. The maximum level is enough (especially in the high brightness mode) to work with information on a bright sunny day. The minimum indicator is quite comfortable for working in the dark. The proximity sensor blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

As in previous branded flagship devices, there is the possibility of manually adjusting the color temperature and saturation to your own taste, using ready-made profiles or using automation. It should be noted that the brightness of the backlight varies not only from the level of ambient light, but also from the brightness of the image itself on the screen, which is not always comfortable for the eyes.

Multi-touch technology allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. Her work does not cause any complaints. There is support for high sensitivity mode for working with gloves.

Sound

As already mentioned, Lenovo Vibe X2 is equipped with only one multimedia speaker, which is located at the bottom of the back of the case. This area is devoid of any elevations, due to which the sound is noticeably muffled if the gadget is placed on a soft horizontal surface with the screen facing up. The volume level is quite high, which is quite enough for comfortable performance of most everyday scenarios (watching videos, playing games and speakerphone). The sound itself is also good: low, well-detailed mids and adequate highs are felt. In any case, you can use the universal audio jack (mini-jack 3.5 mm) and connect headphones or external speakers. Or buy the branded accessory Hi-Fi Xtension, which was mentioned above.

Google Music acts as a regular player, the settings of which are presented in the form of pre-created equalizer profiles. The complete vacuum-type headphones are characterized by a clear sound (the entire frequency range is present) with a sufficient volume level. They do their job well and do not cause a desire to immediately replace them with something else, which will save the future owner some money.

The sound in foreign headphones was tested on gaming (impedance 60 ohms) and vacuum Vivanco HS 200 WT (impedance 16 ohms). In both cases, the sound is pleasant and balanced, and the volume level is sufficient, even with some margin.

The smartphone has a built-in radio module that allows you to listen to and record the air of FM radio stations operating in the frequency range from 87.5 to 108 MHz. Traditionally, to turn on the radio, you need to connect a headset, which is used as an antenna.

Camera

The novelty is equipped with two modules of digital cameras. The front has a 5 megapixel sensor, a fixed focus and an f / 2.4 lens. Photo and video recording are carried out with a resolution of 2560 x 1920 and 1080p, respectively.

The capabilities of the camera are quite enough to get high-quality self-portraits (with a good level of lighting) and video communication. The viewing angle is quite large, which will appeal to fans of group photos. But it should be remembered that due to a fixed focus, the best zone of sharpness is just at a distance of a half-stretched arm. Next comes the blur. There is the possibility of starting shooting using gestures, touches, blinking, voice control or by timer. In addition, a system for improving the texture of the skin is provided.

The main camera received a 13-megapixel module and a lens with an aperture of f / 2.2. On the spot, a fairly fast autofocus, a bright single-section LED flash, as well as a digital image stabilization system (only for video shooting). The maximum photo resolution is 4160 x 3120 (13 MP) at 4:3 aspect ratio and 4096 x 2304 (9.4 MP) at 16:9 aspect ratio. The video is shot at 1920 × 1080 (30 FPS) and is in mp4 format.

The photos taken from the main module are characterized by a pleasant reproduction of colors with natural saturation and a good level of detail, but their quality is highly dependent on the level of illumination. On the examples of the footage, you can see that even in slight shadows, a rather aggressive work of the noise reduction system is manifested, which blurs small details. A good way out of this situation is to use the "HDR" mode, which helps to draw out the shadows from the image. Video recording also pleased with good detail and smoothness of the picture (a good implementation of the digital stabilization system). It should be noted that all the footage was taken in cloudy weather. Under more favorable conditions, the result will be much better.

The main camera settings menu visually looks quite concise and at the same time beautiful. It has good functionality, and also provides easy access to controls that are in the usual places. In addition to the aforementioned "HDR" mode, "Normal shooting", "Panorama" and "Special effects" are available. You can independently adjust the aspect ratio, white balance, flash mode, shooting mode, additional lines, resolution and ISO value (100 - 1600) . An interesting feature is the ability to create a quick snapshot by double-tapping the Home button (Quick Shot function), as well as launching the camera by simply lifting the smartphone in a horizontal position and further aiming at an object (the Camera Launch Gesture function).

User interface

Lenovo VIBE X2 comes pre-installed with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, on top of which it is installed latest version proprietary shell Lenovo Launcher v6.0. It looks good and bright with interesting and smooth animation. Traditionally, there is an opportunity flexible settings Appearance: Create, delete and sort desktops, themes, desktop and lock screen wallpapers, fonts, animations, and boot logo. The main difference between the Lenovo Launcher and the stock Android design is the absence of the usual application menu, since programs are placed directly on desktops along with widgets. There is also the possibility of over-the-air software updates (FOTA).

Lenovo VIBE X2 has a number of enough useful applications, among which should be noted Security, SHAREit, SINCit, Power Manager and a number of others. They can help protect and optimize the performance of your smartphone, make it easier to share content, back up personal data, and extend battery life. We have already met them in past tests, so for a more detailed review, we suggest going to the review.

Of the interesting things, it should be noted "Smart Menu" - this is a virtual key that can be placed in any part of the screen. When pressed, a quick access menu to the main functions of the smartphone opens with the possibility of adding or deleting them.

The settings menu is divided into two tabs: "System" and "Special". The first group contains well-known items that provide wide access to system settings: communication capabilities, appearance, screen settings, sound effects, etc. The “Special” tab looks much more interesting, where a number of features are concentrated, designed to simplify the life of the user. Among them is the "Pocket" mode, when activated, the volume is turned up to the maximum so as not to miss the alert signal. And in the "In hand" mode, the volume of the signal is automatically reduced. In addition, the Smart Standby mode does not block the smartphone while you look at it. Once again, it should be noted that the Lenovo VIBE X2 can be awakened using the Volume key and locked or awakened by double-tapping in a free area of the screen.

Subjectively, user interface has a nice and colorful design. It works fairly quickly and smoothly. For a more detailed look at the features and other applications, you can review our video below.

Hardware platform and performance

Lenovo VIBE X2 is based on one of the newest single-chip systems (SoC) - MediaTek MT6595M. It is based on the progressive version of the 28nm ARM big.LITTLE HPM microarchitecture and includes 4 high-performance ARM Cortex-A17 cores with a clock speed of up to 2 GHz and 4 energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A7 cores with a clock speed of 1.69 GHz. The L2 cache is 2 MB. IN given processor implemented the technology of intelligent control of the operation of the cores - MediaTek CorePilot, which provides a balance between performance and low power consumption. That is, with a minimum load, only one core will be active (for example, in standby mode), and when maximum performance is required (for example, in 3D games), all eight cores will be used. In addition, depending on the needs, the dynamic frequency of the cores also changes. The integrated graphics solution is IT PowerVR 6200 - two clusters (cores) with a maximum clock frequency of 450 MHz. It received support for OpenGL 3.2, OpenGL ES 3.1 and Direct3D 10.

The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and permanent - 32 GB, of which 25.12 GB is available to the user. It is impossible to expand this space, since there is no support for memory cards. Also, it will not be possible to connect an external USB drive due to the lack of USB OTG support on this platform.

The performance of Lenovo VIBE X2 is at the level of modern flagship devices, as evidenced by the top lines of all current benchmarks. The test results are comparable to solutions based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801/805 and Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5433. The smartphone can easily cope not only with the smooth operation of the OS and its programs, but also with any modern demanding games. For example, such popular projects as Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8: Airborne run as smoothly as possible at high graphics settings. Yes, even more demanding ones, in the manner of Modern Combat 5 and World of Tanks Blitz, are played without visible failures in FPS. Of the games tested, GTA: San Andreas only occasionally slowed down, although very rarely. After a long maximum load, the case of the novelty noticeably heats up, but it is not critical, and this does not affect the comfort during use. Under normal operating conditions, the smartphone is barely warm, and even then not always.

Communication and communications

Lenovo VIBE X2 model works in all modern mobile networks: 2G (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), 3G (HSPA +, up to 42 Mbps) and 4G LTE cat4 (up to 150 Mbps; FDD Band 1 / 3 / 7 / 20 (2600 / 2100 / 1800 / 800 MHz)). There is only one radio module, as well as the number of SIM cards.

The quality of the calls is at a high level: there are no interruptions or self-drops, and the voice transmission is clear, although it depends on the user's location. The speaker is moderately loud, but without much headroom (should be enough for most scenarios), with a predominance of high frequencies. Vibrating alert of medium strength (you may not feel it in the pocket of thick clothes or a backpack).

The set of communication capabilities is represented by Bluetooth 3.0 + 4.1 LE and Wi-Fi modules. The latter has support for 802.11 b / g / n / ac protocols and Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Display functions, and is also capable of operating in the 2.4 / 5 GHz frequency bands. Traditionally, there is support for DLNA.

Wi-Fi data transfer speeds (100Mbps wired, 802.11n-enabled router) reach the highest level among previously tested smartphones: up to 84Mbps upstream and up to 49Mbps upstream. The search for points and connection to them pleased with the speed and stability of work.

The global geopositioning navigation module supports GPS and GLONASS satellite systems. The first of them in an open area simply instantly (5-10 s) determines about 13 satellites and connects to them just as quickly. Communication is stable with most of them. Under test conditions, the determination accuracy was up to 7 meters.

Offline work

The Lenovo Vibe X2 is powered by a non-replaceable 2300 mAh lithium polymer battery. With a moderate load with 50% display brightness (calls, SMS, music, a little Internet), the novelty will be able to work without recharging for about 1 day. With a minimum load, you can stretch this figure for 1.5 days. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone is capable of operating in talk mode up to 22 hours in 2G network and up to 11.5 hours in 3G / 4G. In addition, the standby time of the novelty can reach 17 / 16.5 days in 2G / 3G networks and up to 10.5 days in 4G. In case of an urgent need to stay connected for the maximum amount of time or in case of a low battery charge, you can apply the Emergency power saving mode. Activating it leaves only phone calls and SMS, and the rest of the functions are turned off, which allows you to almost double the battery life of your smartphone. In addition, the manufacturer offers to purchase an overhead Battery Xtension battery, which will double the battery capacity and thereby increase battery life.

As a result of watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, MKV container, 4 Mbps stream) at 50% display brightness and enabled Wi-Fi and GPS modules, the device was discharged in 6.5 hours. A game simulation using Asphalt 8: Airborne at 100% display brightness with Wi-Fi and GPS turned on ran out of battery power in almost 3 hours.

Testing autonomy using the popular PCMark benchmark (text editing, viewing video content, photo processing, etc.) showed a result of 4.5 hours at maximum display brightness. The estimated operating time of the smartphone according to the GFXBench benchmark is 201 minutes.

The battery charging time from the complete block (5 V, 1 A) is about 2-2.5 hours.

Results

Of course, it is a very interesting smartphone, primarily due to its original and rather refined design. appearance, which stands out against the background of its monotonous competitors. In addition, the manufacturer equipped his creation with one of the most modern MediaTek MT6595M processors, which in terms of performance can compete with current flagship devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801/805 and Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5433, an excellent 5-inch Full HD IPS display with maximum viewing angles and natural color reproduction, as well as current digital camera modules (5 MP and 13 MP), which boast good quality received content. Additionally, there is support for all modern mobile networks(2G, 3G, 4G) and necessary communications (Bluetooth 3.0 + 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS, GLONASS) that function properly. All this is complemented by a high-quality software component, which is represented by the still current version of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS, on top of which the proprietary Lenovo Launcher v6.0 shell is installed. It has a pleasant and colorful look with flexible personalization options and fairly high functionality.

To ensure autonomous operation, there is a non-removable lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh. Taking into account the excellent performance of the hardware platform and the characteristics of the display, you should not count on high autonomy with active regular use. The manufacturer took this situation into account and offers an interesting accessory - Battery Xtension (replaceable battery in the form of a slip case), which allows you to double the battery life of the device. It should also be noted another accessory - Hi-Fi Xtension, which is an overhead speaker that can additionally play the role of a stand.

Among the shortcomings can be noted the lack of support for memory cards and the USB OTG specification, but given the amount of internal memory (32 GB), this should not be too worrying.

In general, we have a unique and truly bright gadget with high performance and excellent functionality, which will surely attract the attention of demanding active people who want to emphasize their individuality.
