Hardware and software setup

The router stops working when connected. Why is Wi-Fi not working?

One of the most common problems on mobile gadgets with Android platform- lack of access to the Internet. We will talk about why the wireless, Wi-Fi, network does not connect or is unstable. If there is no Wi-Fi connection on your tablet, smartphone or phone, first of all, you need to find the cause of incorrect operation, and only then look for ways to fix errors. We will list several types of problems, and you will find your own among them, and depending on this, use this or that recommendation or instruction.

Wrong date and time

This is not a common mistake, but it's still worth checking. What if the problem is that your mobile gadget shows the wrong time and date? To check, open the "Settings" of the smartphone / tablet and look at the "Date and time". If the settings are incorrect, change them.

Wrong password entered

Perhaps you changed the network password, but "forgot to tell" your "smart" computer about it? This problem, unlike the first, on the contrary, is quite common. Go to Settings wireless connection and delete the "old" profile from which you are trying to connect to the network. Now try to reconnect to the network.

Software failures

This reason, due to which Wi-Fi does not connect, is also common. Unstable operation of the software is detected simply: for this, you need to download and install the software on the device. We recommend using for these purposes. This is a small application specially designed to solve problems with unstable internet on mobile devices. Neither your settings nor your content will be affected.

After starting the utility, the main window will open, where you can see the status of the Internet connection. And the “Known” tab contains information about all connections.

All you need to do is restart your smartphone and connect again via Wi-Fi.

Crash in settings

Lost user settings is another common problem. And there is only one solution here, and not the most pleasant one: resetting the parameters to the original ones (from the manufacturer). To restore factory settings, open "Settings" and go to the appropriate item. With it, you can reset the parameters and restore their original values.

Click on the "Reset settings" button.

Installing the wrong firmware

If the problem with connecting the device to the network via wireless technology arose after the firmware, then you used the unofficial version. This was the cause of unstable or incorrect work. And the only solution is to reflash the device, returning it to the factory software.

Viruses

And this problem often, alas, occurs. Maybe with one of the apps on mobile device viruses got in. There are various programs that scan the operating system and remove malicious codes. Be sure to check your smartphone/tablet.

Wrong router settings

Incorrect set parameters router - common cause Wi-Fi connection failure. To configure the router correctly, you need to do everything as in the instructions. If you didn't throw away the box from under the router, find the paperwork and set everything up properly.

Open Device Management Menu and select Wireless Settings. You must change the parameters of two lines. "Channel" - set the parameter "auto", "Mode" - the parameter "11 bgn mixed". Go to the "MAC Address Filtering" tab and change the setting to "disabled".

conclusions

If the cause is not identified and not resolved, most likely one of the radio modules is faulty. The correct decision is not to engage in "self-treatment", but to take it to repair (service center or workshop). If you do not have sufficient technical knowledge, it is better not to take risks, after all, so as not to buy a new gadget.

Android is the most used, multifunctional and powerful operating system, on the basis of which an unlimited number of high-quality, interesting and affordable applications have been created. Due to its versatility and huge demand, it is successfully used for the software of smartphones, tablets, netbooks, smart watches, smartbooks, TVs. But, even with the most proven shells, there are minor difficulties, from which even this system is not immune during use. Therefore, we will look at what to do when there are problems with the Wi-Fi connection on your Android device. Today we will find the answer to the question why Wi-Fi does not turn on on android?

Reasons and solution

WiFi on your phone or Android tablet may not work for several reasons. It should be noted that not only owners may face this tablet computers, but also people using mobile phones, based on this popular system. How to be users if wifi does not turn on samsung devices, we will look for the cause and eliminate the root of the problems.

  1. One of the root causes, if Wi-Fi stopped working on Android, which is extremely rare, is incorrect set date and time. To fix it, just go to "Settings", set the correct date and time, taking into account the time zone.
  2. Second and most common problem– change the password when automatically connecting to the network. That is, the password has been changed by the user, but android system still doesn't know about it. To fix this problem, using the interface or hotkeys, go to the Wi-Fi network connection settings, delete the profile with which the connection was previously established and create the connection again, select your own from the list of available connections, enter the necessary characters in the window that appears. Further, the connection to the password-protected network will occur automatically.
  3. Software failures ( Software) is the third possible reason when Wi-Fi on Android stops connecting. To do this, use the Wi-Fi Fixer utility, created specifically to solve this problem. Without making any changes in the program settings, download and install this application. After installing the utility, information about the current status of the device will appear, and all devices that have ever been connected will be displayed in the “Known” tab. Then we reboot the smartphone or computer tablet, try to make the connection again.
  4. The fourth problem, if Wi-Fi does not work on android, is a failure in the settings. To bypass it, you can reset the settings to factory settings, with further restoration. Go to "Settings" select "Backup and reset", click "Reset settings". Or we do a complete " hard reset”, but then all data is deleted, that is, the device will be the same as after purchase.

Sometimes users install inappropriate android firmware, as a result of which the correct operation of radio modules is disrupted, including the wifi module on Samsung phones or tablets. The way out in this situation is to install or update the basic firmware on the Samsung.

Those viruses again!

One of the most unpleasant reasons when wi-fi does not turn on is the impact malware, the so-called virus programs, on the operation of the radio modules of the device. To eliminate viruses in the phone, you need to do a deep scan with the built-in antivirus.

Setting up the router

The venerable seventh place is occupied by a pop-up error when connecting to Wi-Fi - a failure or incorrect configuration of the router. The elimination of this error is carried out in the router settings. How to do this can be found in the instructions for the device. This is especially true if a home network is used. In the control menu, select "Settings wireless network". We change the parameter to "Auto", in the line "Channel", and the line "Mode" to the parameter "11 bgn mixed". Turn off MAC address filtering to make sure that the router does not filter the addresses of connected devices. Let's try to connect.

And now it's time for the master

If none of the above methods helped, then the problem is in the radio module itself, wifi will not work until the chip is soldered. In this situation, the best solution would be to apply for a warranty to a service center (for example, Samsumg) or to a competent and proven computer master.

It must be remembered that any intervention by incompetent persons in the operation of the system, even when solving the problem when Wi-Fi is not connected, creates a huge risk, turning your favorite gadget into a useless piece of plastic, which will take significant financial costs and your nerves to resuscitate.

According to an unspoken tradition, I will leave a video instruction, perhaps it will help you restore wifi on a Samsung tablet or phone.

Video instruction

Websites barely open, videos on YouTube are constantly buffered, and WiFi generally works very poorly - do you know it? Unfortunately, this has been happening more and more lately. The reasons that affect the quality of the wireless network can be divided into three categories:

bad WiFi operation due to interference in the range
- Wrong installation access points
- Problems with the WiFi router or its settings

It is important to correctly identify the cause and then you can quickly eliminate it! In any case, if you are having problems with your wireless network and Wi-Fi is working very poorly, try restarting your router first. And if this simple manipulation did not help, then follow the advice from our article!

WiFi problems due to interference and neighbors

We constantly have to deal with situations where people complain that their WiFi does not work well on their phone or tablet, as soon as they move further than 2-3 meters from the router, or go to another room. Usually the reason is as simple as five cents. Open the list of available networks on your laptop or phone and count how many Wi-Fi access points are within reach.

If you see approximately the same picture as in the screenshot, then things are bad - you are being interfered with by neighboring wireless networks. This is the main 2.4 GHz band problem, which has a maximum of 14 channels. And then - only 3 of them do not intersect, and the rest can also interfere with each other. You can often find advice that, they say, you should try to manually set the radio channel used - all this is an empty task. Attempts to amplify the signal with the help of homemade amplifiers from beer cans and the like. You will constantly play with your neighbors in tugging the wireless network blanket. What then to do? Buy a dual-band router and transfer home WiFi network on the 5 GHz band. Yes, it requires financial costs, but you simply have no other choice.

There are no or few access points in the neighborhood, but still WiFi does not work well - then you should try to play around with the settings. First, try changing the radio channel used by the router. This is done quite simply - you need to go to its web interface and in the main WiFi settings find parameter Channel or Channel.

Click on the dropdown list to see all possible values.

By default, routers are set to either Auto, or channel number is used. 6 (six). Try to put first (1) or eleventh (11). If there is interference somewhere, then they are unlikely to occupy the entire range and on one of its sides the quality of the wireless network will be better.

Incorrect installation of the WiFi router

Users pay a lot of attention to setting up an access point, but not how and where it is installed. Most often, it is left right at the entrance to a house or apartment, where the installer started the provider's cable. It is not right! Do not be surprised then that Wi-Fi works disgustingly!

The location of the access point in the room should be given special attention! The quality of the reception will also depend on this. Look at the example in the picture. As you can see, the zone WiFi coverage has the shape of a sphere, the signal propagates in all directions. And this means that for best quality signal, it is necessary that the center of the sphere coincides as closely as possible with the center of your apartment or house.

The quality of the signal is greatly affected by plasterboard, claydite and especially concrete walls. If the signal overcomes this wall, it will immediately lose at least a third, or even half.

And Wi-Fi really doesn’t like water - water pipes, large aquariums and all that. Like, in fact, large LCDs or plasma panels half a wall. They jam the signal quite strongly and this must be taken into account.

Poor speed over WiFi

Another common problem - the Internet does not work well over WiFi - low speed with a good signal level. Here it is worth immediately making a reservation that by the word "low" everyone means completely different meanings. Just want to draw your attention to the fact that WiFi speed will be lower than cable. At least now, in 2018. Even despite the fact that on the box of an ordinary router like D-Link DIR-300 for 1000 rubles it is written that WiFi 802.11N speed is up to 300 Mbps. All this is fake. In practice, even on the most expensive routers in the 5 GHz band on the modern 802.11AC standard, it does not accelerate more than 80-85 Mbps. Therefore, one must be serious and do not expect fabulous speeds from a wireless network.

But if you have absolutely bad speed via WiFi - in best case 1-2 megabits and at the same time an almost full signal scale - it's worth considering. Typically, this situation is associated with incorrect setting router.

First you can play around with the channel width - bandwidth. By default, it is set to automatic or 20MHz.

Try changing the radio channel width value to 40MHz and see the result.

Usually after that it is possible to increase the speed of Wi-Fi by 1.5-2 times. But there is a caveat - fast WiFi will only work at a relatively close distance. If you are far from the access point (say, through 2 or 3 walls), then changing the channel width may adversely affect the signal quality. In this case, return the old value back.

One more common mistake newbies - incorrectly configured wireless network security. Yes, yes, this also affects the speed of Wi-Fi.

Use only WPA2-PSK with AES encryption. If you use the old WPA-PSK then don't expect speeds greater than 54 Mbps! And if you use WEP (by no means!!), then the speed characteristics will be even lower.

Wireless MultiMedia

Despite the fact that on all modern routers the function of quality control of service is enabled by default - WMM or Wireless MultiMedia, there are models where you need to turn it on yourself.

For achievement top speed data transmission over a wireless network, enabling this function is a mandatory requirement!

Too powerful transmitter

An interesting fact is that if the signal strength of the router is too strong, Wi-Fi will also work poorly, and sometimes even worse than with a weak signal. I'm talking about those cases when the receiver and transmitter are at a distance of no more than 1-1.5 meters from each other. For example, when a laptop and a router lie on the same table. For normal operation, either move away from the access point by 2-3 meters, or lower the transmitter power in the settings:

By default, it is usually turned to the maximum. Within a one-room apartment, medium power is enough, and within one small room, you can even set the value to "Low".

What else badly affects Wi-Fi

There are a number of other factors that can also lead to the fact that WiFi does not work well in an apartment or house. They are rarely mentioned, but at the same time they can really become a source of serious interference for wireless equipment!

Microwave

Unfortunately, even kitchen appliances can interfere with your WiFi, especially if you have a very old router. The clearest example is microwaves. The fact is that microwave ovens operate at 2.45 GHz, which is incredibly close to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band, which actually broadcasts between 2.412 GHz and 2.472 GHz. That is why experts do not advise placing an access point in the kitchen.

Bluetooth devices

It turns out that another popular type wireless connection- Bluetooth - also operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. In theory, a properly designed device should be shielded to prevent interference. But this, unfortunately, is not always the case. V modern gadgets To prevent frequency collision, Bluetooth manufacturers use frequency hopping, in which the signal randomly rotates between 70 different channels, changing up to 1600 times per second. Newer Bluetooth devices may also be able to identify "bad" or currently used channels and avoid them.
However, if you have an older adapter without channel management, interference may still occur. Therefore, try moving your Bluetooth devices away from the router. Well, or turn them off for a while to see if they are the cause of your Wi-Fi problems.

Christmas garlands

I would never have thought that ordinary cheap Chinese garlands could become a real hindrance to the normal operation of a Wi-Fi network. As it turns out, these lights can emit an electromagnetic field that interacts with Wi-Fi equipment. Flashing garlands have a particularly strong effect.
In fact, all kinds of lights can cause interference by emitting electromagnetic fields, but in most cases the effect is close to negligible. However, it is better to keep them away from the router.

old router firmware

As a rule, a user buys a wireless router, sets it up, and then completely forgets that it also needs to be serviced. How, you ask?! The fact is that the router is the same computer with its own operating system. This system is also written by people who tend to make mistakes. Therefore, the manufacturer constantly releases new firmware versions for its devices, in which it fixes the errors found and adds new features. Therefore, if it works disgustingly for you wifi router, then try updating its firmware - in other words - you need to reflash the router.

For many models, except for the factory software, from the manufacturer, if and alternative firmware from outside experts. As a rule, they work better than the factory ones. And therefore, if you haven’t looked into the router settings for a year or more, it’s better to download latest version Install software for it. It certainly won't get any worse!

Good day to all!

You practically don’t remember the router (while everything is working normally). But as soon as a problem with it appears, it becomes the main one, because often there is no Internet at all ...

In today's article, I decided to analyze one fairly popular problem: when a router either does not distribute a Wi-Fi network at all (or you don't see it, for one reason or another) , or there is a network, but after connecting to it, the Internet does not appear on your device. I decided to consider these two options at once, because. when asking questions on this topic, it is rather difficult to understand from the user what happened to him (and the topics intersect) ...

Note: if you urgently need internet on a PC / laptop, and the router is not working yet, then you can share it from your phone in 10-15 seconds! For how to do this, see this note:

What to do if the router does not distribute the Internet

Option 1: Cannot find network and connect to Wi-Fi

1) Check the Wi-Fi module on the device if it works

The first thing I recommend paying attention to is whether the Wi-Fi module works on your device from which you connect to Wi-Fi. For example, if you take a laptop, then many of them have specials. an indicator (light-emitting diode) that signals the operation of the adapter (ideally, it should be on, i.e. show that the adapter is on).

By the way, you can also learn about the operation of the adapter from the Windows system tray: just click on the network icon - if the adapter works, you should see a list of found Wi-Fi networks (*if you live in an apartment building - there are usually quite a lot of networks).

To help!

1) How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop and connect to the network:

2) Check and update the driver on wifi adapter:

If you touch devices running Android: then it’s even easier here, just open wifi settings and check that the module is enabled (see screenshot below). Usually, immediately after turning on, the device starts to find networks.

2) Is the Wi-Fi router turned on

Trite, but still I recommend checking (especially in cases where your laptop, say, finds other WiFi networks in the district, and specifically does not see yours). By the way, often, when pets could “turn it off”, or the power supply could simply “move away” from the outlet.

By the way, pay attention to the indicators on the router case: if Wi-Fi is working, the WLAN LED (or a characteristic icon with 3 wavy lines) on its case should be on (as in the example below).

3) Is it included Wi-Fi distribution in router settings

If the LED on the router case responsible for Wi-Fi is off (does not blink), you need to go to the router settings and check if Wi-Fi is available at all. Usually, this section settings in the web interface of the router is called "Wireless Settings" (in the English version, something like "Wireless Settings").

To help! How to enter the router settings (i.e., its web interface) -

4) Check the channel (i.e. the frequency of the Wi-Fi)

The point is that in different countries using a different range of channels. For example, in Russia from 1 to 13, in the USA up to 11, in Japan up to 14. Thus, if your router, say, uses channel 13, and your device (for example, iPhone or iPad) was localized to work in the USA - then it simply will not be able to work with this Wi-Fi network.

Therefore, try instead of "Auto" channel selection (this option is used by default in routers), put a static channel, say, 2nd (as in the example below). Save your settings and test your Wi-Fi.

5) Wireless network operation mode: check the schedule

Also, the Wi-Fi network may not work due to the mode (schedule) settings. This option helps to automatically turn off the router, for example, at night when no one needs it. By default, usually, it is turned off, but nevertheless - I recommend paying attention.

Option 2: Connected to Wi-Fi succeeded, but there is still no Internet

This is another variation of this problem. I highly recommend that you first find out one point: is there Internet on other devices that are also connected to this Wi-Fi network. If it is also not there, then you probably need to "dig" in the direction of the router settings (if the situation is the opposite, then the problem is on the side of a particular device).

1) Is the cable from the Internet provider connected to the router, are there any provider work

Tenda router (end view) - WAN indicator

Pay attention also to the cable: it can often be interrupted in the process, for example, moving furniture. In addition, pets could try.

In addition, check with the provider whether everything is in order with the network, whether technical services are being carried out. work (especially in cases where everything worked for you and the Internet suddenly disappeared).

2) Check WAN settings (i.e. router settings for internet connection)

In the Internet settings of the router (in the English version of the firmware, see the section "WAN" and similar derivatives) you need to specify the protocol (used by your provider), then set the IP, DNS (if necessary), specify the password, login, etc. (much depends on the settings of your Internet provider. By the way, he should have provided them to you in the contract for the provision of communication services).

To help! Setting Tenda router from scratch (Internet connection, Wi-Fi) -

3) Check the adapter settings: IP address and DNS server

To open all network connections that are on the PC, press the combination of buttons Win + R (without the plus), the "Run" window should open. Next, use the ncpa.cpl command. A window should appear similar to the one in my example below.

You need to open the properties of the "wireless network" (or Wireless, i.e. you need to open the properties of the adapter that is responsible for Wi-Fi).

Wireless network properties

Next, open the "IP version 4..." properties (see screenshot below), and check which IP and DNS are being used. If you have a router, then in most cases you need to move the sliders to the mode automatic receipt IP and DNS* .

* Note also that your ISP's DNS may "fall off" when working for a while. In this regard, I recommend trying to use Google's DNS servers (they work faster than most providers, and more reliable). To do this, manually specify the DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

To help! For more information on how to change DNS in Windows and how to choose the fastest public DNS server, see this post:

4) Parental control, bandwidth control

Also pay attention in the router to sections such as bandwidth control and parental control. The fact is that with the help of them you can simply disconnect any of the connected devices to the router from the Internet (or even prohibit it from connecting to a Wi-Fi network).

Bandwidth control - note that any device can be disconnected from the Internet / Clickable

Wifi not working on laptop? Then you have come to the right place.

There are quite a few reasons why a laptop cannot connect to a Wi-Fi network. This article will provide an algorithm for solving this problem, taking into account the frequency of possible causes.

Step 1: Diagnose the source of the problem

In case of an unsuccessful connection to the wireless network, the problem may not be in the client device at all (, netbook, ultrabook, etc.), but in the settings of the router.

To do this, you need to try to connect to a wireless network using any other device equipped with a Wi-Fi module - another laptop, netbook, tablet, smartphone, etc.

If you were able to connect to the wireless network, the problem is with your computer. If the connection fails, the problem is in the .

Step 2. Hardware enable laptop Wi-Fi module

So, based on the diagnostics that we ran in the previous step, it was determined that the connection problem occurred on one of the client devices of the wireless network.

As a rule, all laptops are equipped with indicator lights. wireless module and have certain combination keys to turn it on.

Note! Luminous indicator indicates that the adapter is enabled. The absence of backlight indicates that the Wi-Fi adapter is turned off.

Most manufacturers have indicator lights on the front or one of the side panels of the computer.

Less common is the location of indicators near the touchpad or on the monitor case.

On some HP models, the module status indicator light may be built into the power button on the keyboard.

To enable the Wi-Fi module, a key combination is used, which consists of a special Fn key and one of the system keys from F1 to F12.

Look carefully at the system (functional) keys and find the Wi-Fi connection icon on one of them.

On some older models, in particular, from the company, you can find a solution for turning on the Wi-Fi module in the form of a two-position switch.

Such a switch, as a rule, is located on one of the sides of the laptop or on its front side.

Below is a list of keys that you can use to enable / disable the Wi-Fi module on the most popular brands of laptops.

Acer: Fn+F3

ASUS: Fn+F2

Dell: Fn + F2

Fujitsu: Fn + F5

Gigabyte: Fn + F2

HP: Fn+F12

After enabling the adapter hardware, connect to the wireless network. If the connection fails, go to the next step.

Step 3. Programmatically enable the laptop's Wi-Fi module

In addition to hardware inclusion wireless adapter, which we dealt with in the previous paragraph, there is also a software inclusion that is performed directly in the operating system installed on the laptop.

To enable the wireless connection adapter in Windows 7, you must perform the following steps: on the notification panel (near the clock), select the Internet connection status icon "Network and Sharing Center".

In the left column, select "Change adapter settings".

In the list of connections, you need to pay attention to the indication of the item "Wireless network connection". If the adapter is disabled, it will not be highlighted.

To turn it on, click on the icon. right click mouse, select enable.

The color of the icon should change.

Now you need to pay attention to the notification bar area. In the first case, the laptop's Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, but there is no network to connect to (usually this is a router problem).

In the second option, the adapter is turned on and you need to find your network in the list of connections and connect.

After enabling the adapter programmatically, we try to connect to the . If the connection fails, go to the next step.

Step 4. Installing/reinstalling drivers for the Wi-Fi module

To check if the driver is installed, you need to right-click on the "My Computer" shortcut, which can be found either in the Start menu or on the Desktop, in context menu select the "Properties" item, in the left column of the window that opens, select the "Device Manager" menu.

In the window that opens, you need to find the menu " Network adapters” and find the name of the wireless adapter, which contains part of the name “... Wireless Network Adapter” or “Wireless Network Adapter ...”, where instead of “...” there should be the name of your wireless adapter, for example, Atheros, Realtek, Qualcomm.

In our case, this is the Atheros Wireless Network Adapter. Right-click on it, select "Properties". In the menu that opens, you need to make sure that "The device is working properly."

Important! If you did not find the name in the "Network Adapters" menu, you need to install drivers. Drivers can be found on the disk that came with the laptop, or by searching the Internet.

Step 5: Troubleshoot connection problems in the router

In the first step of our article, we looked at how to determine with a high degree of probability possible cause which makes it impossible to establish a Wi-Fi connection.

Since there are quite a lot of routers, and even more firmware for them in this paragraph will be given general recommendations to fix the problem.

1. Try to reduce the distance between and the router. Try to ensure that there is a direct line of sight between devices and as little interference as possible (walls, partitions, ceilings, microwave ovens, radiotelephone bases, etc.).

What to do if Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop

Why is Wi-Fi not working on my laptop? You can find out by running system diagnostics. You will learn how to do this in the video below.
