Hardware and software setup

Configuring the Tenda FH456 (N301, F3) router: connecting to the Internet and Wi-Fi networks. Router covering the whole apartment and the whole house! Router Tenda N300 - Small, but bold! Why is the tend router not working?

Tenda has a lot of budget but high-quality routers and advanced models for faster internet. They are usually configured according to the same principle, but in accordance with the connection settings of the provider. How and where to set it up?

What router models does Tenda produce?

On the official website of the manufacturer, routers are located in the "Routers" tab and in the ADSL / VDSL / GPON section. The routers house 4 new generation devices of the AC line with gigabyte WAN and LAN ports, which provide data transfer rates up to 1300 MB/s. They operate in two bands - 2.4 and 5 GHz.

The four router models in the "Routers" section of the Tenda website support two frequency bands

In the second mentioned section, there are routers that work on old technology ADSL (models D151, D301, D305) and via GPON connection (model G103).

Tenda routers support different connection technologies: ADSL, GPON and others

In hardware stores, you can also find outdated models, for example, Tenda N3, N300, F300, AC9, AP4, and others. Their transfer speed is already lower - up to 300 MB / s. In addition, they do not support all types of connections. But the upside is that they are cheaper.

Where the router settings are managed: page in the browser and application

You can configure the router through its control panel (a page that opens in a browser) with modern design. This method is more like setting up via PC. If you want to change the settings via a tablet or smartphone, use the Tenda Wi-Fi mobile utility, which can be downloaded from the official OS store - Play market or the App Store.

You can manage the Wi-Fi network of the Tenda router through a special mobile application from the company

Connecting a Tenda router

Before setting up, you need to connect your PC or smartphone to the router via cable or wireless connection. It is better, of course, to use an Ethernet cable (it comes with a router) and a PC:

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the LAN socket on the router, and the other end to network card PC. Insert the cable from the provider into the WAN connector on the back of the router. Turn it on.

Connect the router to the PC through one of the LAN ports

  2. If you don't have a computer or network cable, use already wireless communication: turn on the router. In the Wi-Fi device section, after a few seconds, an access point with the name of the Tenda router will appear. Enter the network - it will be without a security key.

Log in to the router network on the device - PC, smartphone, tablet

  3. Go to the "Network Control Center" through context menu network icon (on Windows 7) or through the "Control Panel" (if another version).

Go to "Network and Sharing Center"

  4. Open the list of adapters in the center.
  5. Click on wireless or wired connection RMB (depending on which connection you chose - Wi-Fi or cable) and select "Properties".

Go to the properties of your wireless adapter

  6. Check the IPv4 and IPv6 protocol properties (depending on which protocol your ISP uses).

Open the properties of the IPv4 or IPv6 protocols

  7. Make sure that the properties are set to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS address.

Highlight items for automatic data acquisition

Entering the settings through the browser: IP, login and password by default on the routers of this company

After connecting, go to the control panel of the router:

  1. We open any browser - in the navigation bar we indicate the address: 192.168.0.1 or tendawifi.com. These addresses are listed on the bottom panel of your router.

IN address bar enter 192.168.0.1 or tendawifi.com

  2. If you connected to the router successfully earlier, the control panel with the wizard will immediately open quick installation. You can use it if your connection is via a static or dynamic IP address, or via PPPoE. To configure other types of connections, for example, PPTP or L2TP (used by the Beeline provider), the wizard is no longer suitable - skip it. We click on "Start".

Click "Start" in the center of the page

  3. On the next page, you can immediately change the language using the drop-down menu on the right. Unfortunately, the Russian interface language is not valid for all Tenda models. If it is not in the list, you will have to use the shell in English.

Select the desired language from the list on the right

  4. Click on "Skip" to go to the sections themselves and configure manually.
  5. You will be asked to come up with and write the primary data for setting up the Wi-Fi network: network name, password and security key from the settings account. You can check the box next to the item under the key field so that the passwords for the access point and account are just the same.

    Enter password for initial setup

  6. Click on "Next" to finally get into the finer settings.
  7. In the case of some models, the authorization page may still open. In this case, enter the login information, which is the default. This is one word admin for both password and login. We click on OK.

After entering the shell with partitions, check if the router is latest firmware, and update it if necessary:

  1. We go to the "System Settings" section. We look at the OS version under the "Firmware Update" icon. We remember her number.

Find out the firmware version in the "System Settings" section

  2. Now let's go to the official page of Tenda.

Go to the Tenda resource to download the new firmware version

  3. We find our model in one of the sections of the site with home appliances.

Go to one of the sections to find your model

  4. If you can't find it manually, click on the magnifying glass at the top right. Enter the name of the model - a menu will appear with the model below the line. We pass in it on the link "Downloads".

For a quick search, use the string with a magnifying glass

  5. We look at the latest firmware version for your router. If it is higher than the one currently on the device, click on the arrow at the end of the page to download the archive with the firmware file.

Download the latest firmware for your model on the website

  6. We find the archive in the "Explorer" and unpack it.

Extract the file from the downloaded archive

  7. Now we return to Personal Area router in the browser. Let's do backup settings in case the update fails. Go to the "Save/Restore" tile.
  8. Click on Backup and save a copy. Using the second "Restore" button, you can restore the initial state of the firmware in the future.

Tap on Backup to make a backup

  9. Now go to the system settings in the "Firmware Update" block. Choose a manual update.

    Highlight "Manual Update"

  10. You can also run an online update. If the system finds something, start the process. If not, move on to a manual update.
  11. We click on the gray button and find the file that was previously taken from the archive. Open it and run the upgrade. We are waiting for the process to complete - at this time, do not turn off the device and do not try to connect to it through other devices. After the update, the network gadget will restart and you can configure it.

Select the firmware file in "Explorer"

Setting up a Tenda router on a new firmware version

Let's move on to changing the parameters of the Tenda router, depending on the type of connection provided by your Internet provider.

Setting up a DHCP server

The DHCP server distributes certain IP addresses to all devices that connect to the access point. This is necessary so that the router knows which device to send data packets to when making requests in the browser. Allocate enough IP addresses to the DHCP server so that it is enough for all devices:

  1. In the last block System settings» Click on the LAN settings tile.

IN last tab on the left, go to the "LAN Settings" block

  2. Activate the server with the switch.

    Turn on DHCP server

  3. Set the correct address range and save.

    Specify server range

Binding by MAC address

Some providers bind the MAC addresses of the subscriber's computer or router to their network equipment. This means that if a direct cable connection to a PC is used (wired Internet without a router), the user can access the Internet only through this device - the cable will not work on other computers. The same goes for routers.

If you decide to switch to a wireless network (install a router), even after properly configuring it, a conflict can occur: after all, the MAC address of the router is different from the address that your PC network card has. As a result, the provider refuses access - there is no Internet.

The MAC address is located on the bottom panel of the Tenda router.

The problem may occur even if you have not previously used wired internet. Because before using the network, you need to bind to the MAC address, that is, tell the provider the address of your equipment. Check with your ISP if binding is needed, and if so, do it like this:

  1. We go into the personal account of the router through the computer to which you previously connected the network cable of your provider. If you have just connected to the provider, open the web shell from any device.
  2. In the system settings block, we find the parameters of the WAN port.

Go to the section for WAN settings

  3. Expand the menu for the MAC address - select the clone option.

Select clone from the drop down menu

  4. Or we put manual input and write the address that is indicated on the bottom panel of the router - on the label. Click on "Save". Reboot the router for all changes to take effect.

You can enter the address manually if it is incorrect

Set the correct connection type

First, ask your ISP what type of connection you need to set up in the settings. For some types, authorization data is required (PPTP, PPPoE and others). For dynamic IP address, for example, no additional information needs to be entered. All details should be specified in your contract with the provider.

Specify the correct type of connection to access the Internet of your provider

If you do not have it at hand, but you need to find out the data urgently, call the support service. Also ask right away about MTU (what value to set) and binding by MAC address (whether it needs to be done).

Static IP address

Most providers provide their customers with an additional service "Static IP address" for a fee. Your PC or router on the network receives a unique address that does not change with each session on the Internet. The option is useful in that the subscriber will be able to receive remote access to your "Desktop" on your PC.

Using a static address makes it easier to set up remote access to your computer

You need to set up a connection using a static IP address on the Tenda router as follows:

  1. We go to "Internet Settings". Expand the menu for the type of connection - click on the static address.

Set a static address in the drop down menu

  2. We fill out the questionnaire with the data that the provider provided you with the purchase additional service: IP itself, subnet mask, gateway and addresses DNS servers. We save the changes.

Enter data in all form fields

  3. We go into the WAN settings in the system parameters (where we went to clone the MAC address) and set the MTU to at least 1500. Apply the settings.

Put 1500 in the MTU field

PPPoE connection

How to set up a high speed PPPoE connection:

  1. In the Internet settings, set the first item PPPoE as the connection type.

Select PPPoE from the Connection Type menu

  2. Now we drive in the data that the operator gave.

    Enter username and password

  3. If necessary, we set certain DNS servers (if the provider provided them). We save the changes.

If you have data for DNS as well, enter that as well.

  4. In the MTU parameter (the "WAN Settings" tile in the system parameters), set the value to less than 1500, for example, 1450.

MTU must be set to 1450 or less

PPTP and L2TP connection (VPN)

Your operator can work using the PPTP or L2TP protocol if it uses the VPN connection format - a closed network is created in which the subscriber "surfs" as an anonymous person (determining the IP address of his computer, location is almost impossible in this case). VPNs are often used to open sites that are blocked in the host country and for other purposes.

VPN allows you to work anonymously on the Internet

How to set up PPTP or L2TP on Tenda:

  1. In Internet settings, click on PPTP or L2TP.

Select one of the two connections from the dropdown menu

  2. Enter the information received from the operator: IP address, password and username.

Enter the data from the provider that are in the contract

  3. Specify what type of address you need - dynamic or static. If the second, write the address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS address.

If there is a static address, enter it in a special menu

  4. If you need to create a VPN connection over a network with a different protocol, go to the tab of the same name in the list on the left - select the "PPTP/L2TP Client" tile.

Go to the "PPTP/L2TP Client" section

  5. Enable the option, select one of the two protocols and enter combinations to enter the closed network. The provider can also provide you with data, but you yourself have the right to find information on the Internet to enter any free VPN server. After entering, click on Connect.

Enter your VPN server login information

  6. After that, in the WAN settings, also specify an MTU less than 1490.

WiFi setup

After specifying the type of connection, we go down to the tab with the "Wi-Fi" settings:

  1. Go to the first subsection for the name and password from the access point.

There are many sections in the Wi-Fi settings

  2. Change the name of the network in the dialog box, if necessary. Combinations can consist of English letters, numbers and some other symbols, for example, you can use underscores.

Decide how much power the router should transmit a signal to devices

  3. In the schedule, if necessary, indicate the period during which the device will not work (it will turn itself off and turn on after a while).

Create a shutdown schedule for your router if needed

  4. In the channel and bandwidth, we change the network mode if there are any requirements from the provider. If possible, leave the channel on "Auto".

Set up an automatic Wi-Fi channel

  5. In the WPS block, the function of the same name is turned on, which allows you to enter the access point without a password (by pressing a physical key with the same name on the router or by entering a code on the device).

With WPS, you can connect to a network without a password

  6. Some models of Tenda routers have the Beamforming option - a technology for improving the Wi-Fi coverage area. With it, the network device recognizes and remembers where the devices that are connected to the point are located, and then enhances the signal transmission to these devices.

Turn on noise immunity so that the signal from the router is better

How to set up IPTV

If you purchased a Tenda router with IPTV support and want to turn on digital TV, connect the purchased TV box via cable to the LAN port on the router. Also activate the IPTV option in the router settings:

  1. Go to the advanced settings of the router. Click on the tile for IPTV.

Turn on IPTV and select "Default"

  2. If the provider requires manual entry of the VLAN (for example, this is necessary in the case of Rostelecom), click on the third value in the drop-down menu to configure the local virtual network.

You can also set up a local network manually if required by the provider.

  3. We find out the VLAN number from our provider, drive it into the field and save the changes. We also restart and see if digital broadcasting works.

Enter the VLAN number in the field

The products of the Chinese company Tenda relatively recently began a massive expansion into international markets. Therefore, compared to other popular brands, it is not so well known to the domestic consumer. But thanks to the combination of an affordable price and a high degree of innovation, it is becoming more and more popular. Tenda routers are already common in home and small office networks. In this regard, the question of how to configure them is becoming increasingly important.

Ease of setup is another strength of Tenda products. The only inconvenience in this process can only be called the fact that not all router models have an interface in Russian. Therefore, further explanations will be made on the example of the Tenda AC10U router, where the Russian-language interface is present.

How to enter the router settings

The procedure for connecting to the web interface of a Tenda router is no different from how it is done in devices from other manufacturers. First you need to choose a place for the router and connect it through the WAN port with a cable from the provider, and through one of the LAN ports with a computer. Thereafter:

After that, you will be redirected to the router settings page.

Quick Setup

After the user connects to the router configuration, the wizard automatically opens quick setup. It is very easy to use it. First, it is recommended to check the availability of the Russian language:

If this question is not relevant, you can skip this step. Then:

Next, you will need to configure the main wifi settings connections. In the same window, the administrator password is set to access the web interface of the router.

In the upper field, the user is given the opportunity to adjust the coverage radius wireless network by setting wifi transmitter to low or high power. Next are the standard settings for the network name and password to connect to it. If you check the box "Not required", the network will be open to anyone, so you should seriously think before activating this setting.

The last line sets the administrator password, with which you can later connect to the router configuration. There is also an item offering to set a single password for Wi-Fi and for the administrator, and a mark "Not required", which allows you to leave access to the web interface free. The expediency of such settings, as in the previous case, is very doubtful and the user must be aware of all the possible consequences before using them.

After setting the wireless network settings, the user will see the final window of the Quick Setup Wizard.

Push button "Further", proceeds to setting additional parameters.

Manual setting

You can enter the manual configuration mode of the Tenda router only by running the quick setup wizard and at the stage of selecting the connection type by clicking on the link "Skip".

After that, the window for setting up a wireless network and setting an administrator password will open, which has already been described above. Clicking on the button "Further", the user enters home page router configuration:

If speak about manual setting Internet connection, then it makes little sense for the user, since by going to the appropriate section, you can see exactly the same windows that appear during the Quick Setup Wizard:

The only exception is the case when the provider works through a PPTP or L2TP connection, for example, Beeline. You can't configure it in quick setup mode. To set up such a connection, you need:

Section dedicated to Wi-Fi settings connections, has a richer menu:

Apart from standard parameters, which are available in the quick setup wizard, you can set there:

In the advanced settings of the wireless network, there are other interesting features, which may differ depending on the router model. All menu items are provided with detailed explanations, which makes setting up a wireless network as simple as possible.

Additional features

In addition to the basic functions that provide access to worldwide network And distribution of Wi-Fi, in Tenda routers there are many additional features, which make networking more secure and comfortable. Let's take a closer look at some of them.

The list of additional features provided by the Tenda router is not limited to the functions described above. By going to the section "Advanced settings", it is possible to carry out whole line interesting settings. They are extremely simple and do not require additional explanations. In more detail, you can dwell only on the function Tenda App, which is a kind of chip of the company.

By activating this function you can download the installation link mobile application Tenda App through the provided QR code. After installing this mobile application, access to the management of the router from your smartphone or tablet is opened, thus doing without a computer or laptop.

This completes the Tenda router configuration overview. It should be noted that the web interface of Tenda F, FH, Tenda N devices is somewhat different from that described above. But in general, it is even simpler and it will not be difficult for a user who has read this article to configure these devices.

Routers from the Chinese manufacturer Tenda belong to the economy class. They are inexpensive, yet do a good job. basic functions. It is hardly worth expecting some kind of super performance from them. If you load it very heavily, the router may simply freeze. The best use cases are an apartment or a small house. Its owners are ordinary users Internet, using a home connection on several devices only for browsing the web, reading news, exchanging information in in social networks and occasionally downloading music or movies. For such purposes, it is enough with his head. Setting up a Tenda router (almost any model) is performed in a similar way, since the settings interface looks the same. Let's consider this question in more detail.

Settings various models little different from each other

Login to the web interface and quick settings

Like any other router, you can configure the Tenda router through the web interface. After connecting the Internet cable to the router and turning on the power, connect to the wireless network. It has a name like TENDA_XXXXXX and an access password of 12345678. You can also connect via network cable. In any browser, you need to enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. After requesting a username and password, enter admin in each field. After that, you get to the main window. In some cases, the menu will be on English language. Although most of the models are Russified.

First of all, you need to select the type of Internet connection that your provider uses. There are several options to choose from:

ADSL Dial-up is PPPoE familiar to many. You need to put a dot on this name and fill in the fields “Account” (Access Account) and “Password” (Access Password) with data from the contract for the provision of services.

DHCP - dynamic IP. Additional parameters, most likely, do not need to be specified. All data is automatically provided by the provider.

Some models in the same window allow you to select PPTP and L2TP - connection types that use VPN. You will need to fill in the following fields: L2TP Server address (Server address), username (login) and password (password), Address mode (Address distribution type). This information should be taken from the contract for the provision of services.

At the bottom of the page, you can change your Wi-Fi access password. This is much more secure than using the default password. In the Wireless password field, enter a new combination and click OK.

Additional network settings

If necessary settings is not enough on the start window, in the upper corner, click "Advanced settings" (advanced settings). In this section, you can fine-tune your network connection.

To select the network operation mode, go to the “WAN Settings” tab, where in the “Mode” line select your connection type (Dynamic or static IP, PPPoE, L2TP) and enter the accounts.

For connection settings - such as network name, network mode, channel - go to Wireless Setup, Wireless Basic Settings. On this page, you will be able to configure all of the above options.

By going to the “Wireless Security” tab, you can change the following items:

SSID is the name of the network.
Security Mode. We recommend choosing WPA2-PSK.
Encryption via WPA (WPA Algorithms). Activate TKIP&AES.
Password (Key). Must be at least 8 characters long and contain English letters and numbers.

Conclusion

Tenda routers are not difficult to set up. The whole process is not much different from the installation of devices from other manufacturers. However, some points may confuse the user.

We hope we could help you. We ask the owners of routers from this manufacturer to leave comments about their work.

Tenda, although they are not a super popular router, they work properly. Let's briefly analyze the differences in the models of this company, and then consider how to set up a Tenda router.

Tenda Models

General characteristics and functionality that all models have. One of the most important features in operation, this is the frequency of operation. On all devices of this company, the value is completely the same - 2.4 GHz.

The next value is the rate of data packet transfer over local ports, on all devices it is 100 Mbps. Three types of Internet connection - PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP, and IPsec (only on the old Tenda N3).

The antennas on all routers are the same type - non-removable. Among the identical configurations, two more can be noted. The first in the Tenda router is the security features. This is according to the WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK/WPA-PSK & WPA2-PSK standard. The W300 and W301 versions support WPS quick connection and configuration.

Small digression! We strongly recommend disabling the WPS feature, especially if you are not using it. If a hacker or some kind of fraudster was able to connect to the router once, then he has the opportunity to find out the WPS password. Thanks to this, he will be able to constantly learn your security key without you even knowing. There are two ways out: change the password from the router control panel, which we will talk about later, or disable WPS. It may not seem like such a serious problem, but the attacker has the ability to control all data packets, including information about credit cards, wallets, and so on. Be careful!

So the last general characteristics- this is a delivery kit, everything is the same there. Next, consider the differences and how the Tenda router is configured.

This router of the company can be considered the ugliest among today's five. The speed of the wireless network here is the same as in the N3, but two times lower than other models. In total up to 150 Megabits per second. As mentioned above, PPTP, L2TP and PPPoE protocols are supported. There is VPN support. Just one built-in 5dBi antenna. One WAN port for internet cable, 4 LAN ports for network cables, which is more than enough to do standard setting router Tenda W316R. All ports are 10/100 type.

There is support for MDI / MDIX, as well as the transfer of audio and video recordings via Wi-Fi Multimedia. You can filter users by addresses (url and mac). You can monitor the status of the router. In Tenda W316R, the setting is identical to 301mu. There is a built-in firewall.

Despite the weak specifications and configuration that will be listed below, it is worth noting the very beautiful design of the device. You can clearly see the work of designers. But this is a budget device, so it has only one LAN and one WAN connector, which is enough to configure the Tenda N3 router. The speed of information transfer through wires is up to 100 Megabits per second. The transmission speed over a wireless network is from 150 Mbps, which is two times lower than other devices (except W316R). Random access memory nothing at all - 8 megabytes. All possible controllers are soldered directly to the processor.

The type of ports is 10/100, to be more precise - RJ-45. There is no VPN functionality. Security is controlled through MAC addresses. We will not dwell on it, because the Tenda N3 setup is the same as on all other routers.

The Tenda W308R setup can also be disassembled on the 301st model. The number of antennas has now grown to 2, however, they are also built-in, non-removable. The speed of data transfer over cables has not changed, all the same 100 megabits. Port type 10/100. But the speed wireless transmission up to 300 megabits per second. VPN is present, as well as WISP, MAC filters and other standard features.

Of the functions, it is worth noting Wi-Fi radio, updating software through the browser (control panel), traffic statistics through the device, guest network. And there is backup all settings and their restoration, if necessary, setting up the Tenda W308R router will be as fast as possible. The VPN tunnel feature is enabled.

The Tenda F300 router has all the same functions. There are several modes of operation: a bridge, an Internet distributor over a wireless network, and an access point. Can be turned on virtual server and DHCP. MAC addresses can be cloned using built-in functionality. The system log is always kept. This is a good plus remote control through the Internet. It is possible to perform fast forwarding of PPTP and L2TP.

There are 4 local 10/100 RJ45 type ports. 1 Internet port 10/100 Mbps, also RJ45 type. Two fixed antennas. Unlike the 308, there are no VPN tunnels. Data transfer rate via Wi-Fi 300 Mbps. The setting of the Tenda F300 router is also typical, because it happens in the same way as on 301m.

The hero of the occasion, since the Tenda N301 router setup is the most typical. There are almost no differences with the latest devices. Also 300 Megabits per second when transferring data over the air. The same protocol support - PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP. Two 5dBi antennas.

Security is maintained in the same way as in the F300, via 64/128 bit WEP, via standard WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. Fast connection via WPS is possible. The operating modes are identical, the same point, router and bridge, only a repeater has appeared. There is traffic prioritization through QoS, which is important in large networks. Mac addresses are cloned, there is a DHCP server and a DMZ host. In the Tenda N301 router, configuration can be done through global network. There is also a Tenda D301, also a router, which we will not consider today. And there is a repeater to 301mu, this is Tenda A301.

Detailed debugging for further work

In order for the Tenda N301 router to be configured correctly, first you need to install it correctly and make sure it works.

Device installation

At this stage, there is nothing difficult. The main thing is not to lose anything from the delivery set. First, we are looking for a suitable place for the device, because this stage always lacks attention. The place should be equally distant from all points of the house so that the connection is the same everywhere. Well, if there is a laptop for primary debugging, if there is none, then the place should be near the desktop computer, or you need to find a portable PC from friends, or you need a long local cable. There are enough options.

In the place where you are going to install the device, the WAN cable with the Internet, which is provided by your provider, should reach. And lastly, there should be an outlet or carrying nearby. Now you need to connect all the cables to the router, namely:

  • Power supply to the socket;
  • Network cable to the computer;
  • WAN internet cable.

There is no need to talk in detail about how to connect, so let's move on to the next step.

Connectivity Check

  1. We check whether our cords are in place, if so, then we act according to the following scheme:
  2. Finding our connection local network in changing adapter settings.
  3. We press properties.
  4. The protocol of the fourth Internet needs to be changed.
  5. There we select everything automatic, as in the screenshot, click "done".

Before entering the settings of the Tenda router, you need to restart our PC and device.

Entering the control panel

We must be sure of the correct connection. Now you need to enter the menu of the Tenda N301 router. On the reverse side our device has everything necessary information. Or just go to any browser and go to the address of the control panel - 192.168.0.1.

The default password on the Tenda router is admin, the same as the login. After that, we recommend changing the password from the control menu for your own safety. This can be done in the system tool.

Setting up an internet connection

Before setting up the Internet on a wi-fi router, we will find out the type of our connection from the provider. It will be in the contract, most likely. If not, we will find out in the support service. Setting up Tenda N301 further differs only in the type of connection.

The most popular type today is PPPoE. It is used by providers such as Rostelecom, TTK, DOM and others. Click on additional installation at the top of the screen.

Then setting the WAN port. The mode in the first line must correspond to what is indicated in the contract. We register the login that is indicated in the same document. The same with the password. Click "ok" or "refine" at the bottom.

The same setting of the Tenda N301 router for L2TP. It differs only in two more important fields:

  • Server address;
  • Account (your account number).

This data must also be specified in the contract or given by the support service. After these machinations, the Internet should already appear on the local network.

Wireless network

In Tenda, setting up a router ends with the stage of debugging a wireless network. In the top menu, select the wireless network setup. Then click on the main network settings of the trend router. We act as indicated in the screenshot. SSID is the name of the wireless network, here you can turn on the fantasy. Everything else is written as in the picture.

Click "clarification" and go to the security of the wireless network, also in the top menu itself. We configure the security mode, select WPA2-PSK there. The key, which is also the password on the Tenda router, should be better thought out more difficult than from 1 to 9.

Before you put a password, write it down on a piece of paper or in a notebook so as not to forget. IN otherwise you will have to change the password.

Click on @clarification. We reload everything. For Tenda N301, the setup is over, you can safely enjoy the absence of a bunch of cords.

Additional function

We have already advised you to change your passwords. There is another good point. You can control users with using MAC addresses. We add uninvited guests to the black list and that's it. This disables the ability to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Good day.

Not so long ago I helped one of my friends create home wifi net. Well, since he's got enough new model router Tenda (namely FH456) - I decided to sketch this article.

In general, I must admit that I did not expect such a good set of functions, and indeed, high-quality work from a router, the price of which is $ 15 (and if you run into a share, it’s even cheaper!).

Looking ahead, I’ll say that the router covered the entire apartment with a stable Wi-Fi network: I specifically launched the download of a popular file on my laptop (in passing opened the browser, and pressed F5 to refresh the pages) and walked with him through all the rooms - even behind two walls the reception is excellent, the speed does not drop and does not break!

And so, let's start in order ...

Addition! I have another instruction on my blog for connecting and configuring a router on my own:

Setting up a Tenda FH456 router

Similar models: N301, F3 (customizable also)

Why Tenda FH456 is worth paying attention to, advantages. Where could I buy.

  1. main plus: good and high-quality coverage of the entire apartment or house (4 antennas on the router, each 5 dBi);
  2. full-quality translation into Russian of the device’s firmware (even a novice PC user will figure out the settings);
  3. the ability to adjust the wireless network signal, there are three modes: low, medium, high;
  4. the device can work both as a router and as a repeater;
  5. pretty good processor (chipset from Realtek);
  6. ability to manage traffic: for example, you can restrict throughput certain connected users (for example, your brother / matchmaker / someone else takes your entire Internet channel - set a download limit for him, say, 4000 KB / s);
  7. have functions parental controls and setting the time of the work schedule (you can turn off Wi-Fi at night);
  8. the rest of the characteristics are quite standard, I think it makes no sense to bring them here ...

And for all these functions you will have to pay about $ 15 (sold on AliExpress and a number of others). In our usual stores - I have not yet seen such a model ...

What's Included

Box with router / appearance

The delivery of the router is quite standard: the device itself, a network cable are included in the kit (I didn’t need it for configuration, because the device can be configured immediately by WiFi connection), power unit. Naturally, the kit included documents and a certificate in Russian - but, to be honest, all this was also not useful ...

Connecting the router and parsing with "wires"

The connection of the router itself is standard. The cable coming from the Internet provider must be connected to the WAN socket, the network cable from the PC should be plugged into one of the three LAN ports. Well, to turn on the device - connect it to the power supply.

Note!

What pleasantly surprised Tenda was the absence of the need to connect a PC to configure the router. Those. if you do not plan to use a PC, then the entire configuration of the router can be done only by WiFi networks. Conveniently!

If everything is in order with the device, the LEDs on it should start to burn and blink (as in the photo below).

  1. firstly, this is the address for configuring the router: 192.168.0.1;
  2. secondly, the name of the Wi-Fi network that the router will create by default when you first connect it (it may be different from mine, so check the sticker on the case of your device!).

Wi-Fi network setup and security

As I said above, ALL setup can be done over Wi-Fi. After the router starts working - it creates a Wi-Fi network that is not password protected (open to everyone!). Therefore, the first thing I recommend to do is connect to it and change the password for access.

Connecting to the network is very simple - just click on the network icon in the tray (next to the clock) and select the network name that is indicated on the sticker on the device (the network will be open!).

Open network connection / Tenda router was first launched

The browser should immediately open the router settings (address: http://192.168.0.1/index.html ).

  1. name of the wireless network (can be anything);
  2. security mode: the most relevant now is WPA2-PSK;
  3. and password - can be anything (I recommend at least 6 characters).
  4. Next, save your settings. The router should reboot and you will need to reconnect to the newly renamed Wi-Fi network...

Setting up Internet access

As I said above, it will be necessary on a laptop (for example) to reconnect to the just renamed Wi-Fi network. By the way, note that in most cases your Wi-Fi icon will still be yellow exclamation mark(i.e. the network will be without access to the Internet).

Then open the "Internet Settings" section. Here already, it is difficult to give specific recommendations - because. Depending on the provider, the network is built for everyone according to different standards.

Important!

Data for connecting to the Internet - must be specified in your contract with an Internet service provider.

It is worth noting that Tenda supports almost all options that are found in our country: PPPoE, PPPoE (Russia), Static IP address, Dynamic IP address, PPTP, L2TP (also optimized for Russia).

In general, if, for example, we take PPPoE (Russia) as the most popular option, then you will only need to specify a username and password for access (this data can be found in the agreement with the Internet provider). Everything, it remains to enter them and save the settings. If the data is correct, then the router will connect, and access to the Internet will appear.

Whether the Internet appeared, and in general how actively it is used - you can find out in the "Status" section - here you will see how fast the download is going on, the return, how many people are connected to the router, IP addresses, MAC address, etc. In general, everything you need!

Router status

It is also worth noting that some ISPs there is an extra protection - binding to the MAC address number (each router or network card has its own). In this case, copy the old MAC address .

Addition!

MAC address: what is it and where to find it. How to clone the MAC address of an old network card -

You can do this in the "Management" section. The MAC address, by the way, is indicated on the hardware sticker (i.e. look at the sticker on your old router). Or you can connect it again to the PC and look in its web interface.

If we are talking about a network card - then just open command line and enter: ipconfig /all

What else can be configured...

There are a couple of interesting options in the wireless network settings:

  • the first one is a task signal level . If your signal is good enough throughout the apartment, you can turn it down to medium or low (high by default);
  • the second - there is an option for the task work schedules router. It is convenient, for example, to turn it off at night (or for a day when you are not at home - and I would not really like children to climb the network unattended ...).

Another handy feature is in the Bandwidth Control section. Here you can limit some user: for example, set the speed limit to 512 KB / s. It is very convenient when someone clogs the entire channel with their downloads, and your pages are loaded in 10-15 seconds.

Last but not least, there is a parental control feature. It's certainly not perfect, but still. Such a thing is not in every model of a budget router.

What do we end up with

Total for some 700-800 rubles. we get a high-quality router that covers the entire apartment with a stable high-speed connection (up to 300 Mbps). Compared to the same D-link budget models for this money - it's like heaven and earth! The budget option from Tenda wins in all respects.

I also note that latest versions firmware completely in Russian, with high-quality translation. In fact, the setup went through in a couple of minutes and I didn’t have to mess around with anything (I remember with a shiver how I had to reflash TRENDnet routers, because factory firmware worked very badly).

That's all. Additions are welcome.
