Hardware and software setup

What does a Sony Ericsson phone look like? Factory reset (hard reset) for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S (White) phone

  1. Let me start by saying that not everyone knows how best to disconnect the charger from the phone. If you just try to pull the connector in a straight line away from the phone, then this happens with great difficulty and you have to use force, otherwise you can ruin the phone. In fact, it is pulled out easily and simply - it needs to be “broken”, as it were, you break a bar of chocolate, only on one side you hold the phone, on the other - the connector itself. Having done this, the connector itself comes out of the phone. This is also written in the instructions, but many simply do not read it, or skip the charging section. This design, in my opinion, is one of the best - the phone is tightly docked to the sob, it does not fall out, and at the same time it is easy to get it, and there are no extra parts to undock.
  2. How to get a GPRS/MMS settings without lengthy instructions telecom operator? Usually this way works. Menu (joystick click) -> "Settings" icon -> "General" -> "Setup Wizard" -> "Upload settings". We do it, we wait, after some time we will be offered two types of settings - GPRS & MMS, then click "OK". Everything! After that, in most cases, you do not need to do anything else!
  3. Side press on the phone "Volume up" button shows phone information(“Phone status”) - brand, battery percentage, memory size, and can also show the service number on the SIM card that you indicated - I always drive in the number of the SIM card phone itself there. It is very convenient when you use a mobile phone, but don’t remember the numbers - press “Volume up” and the number is in front of you. But it must be driven in, so we look at the next paragraph, how to do it.
  4. To specify a number, for example sim card number, and for it to be visible in "Phone status", do: joystick down (usually there is “Contacts”, which is what we need) -> “Functions” -> “Add. functions" -> "Spec. numbers ”-> “My numbers” and then select the item “My mobile” and drive in the number there. It will be shown in the “Phone Status” for this particular SIM card! Now, if you insert another SIM card into your phone, it will not be shown - these numbers are tied to SIM cards!
  5. Do you know that whenever you edit any text, you can copy to clipboard and paste from it? If you don't know, then remember it! It’s very convenient, for example, when you need to send an SMS to someone with your friend’s number - then I do this: I find in contacts whose number to forward, do “Change contact”, select the number, then “Change”, but instead of changing, I click "Functions" -\u003e "Copy all". Then I exit without changes, go to SMS, and there through "Functions" -\u003e "Change" -\u003e "Paste". This is one example of using copy text. You can also copy from the phone's browser (any piece of text), etc..
  6. Phone has profiles, each of which remembers those sound, volume, vibration settings etc.. that you have installed while in this profile. It is convenient when, for example, you are at home and go to bed - just change to the "Home" profile and you already have completely different ringer volume settings, and vibration is turned off, for example. If you increase the volume in the “Home” profile, as usual (via “Menu” -> “Options” -> […]), then all this will be saved later in the settings of this particular profile! This rule applies to all phone profiles. Think about how often you used, for example, changing the volume, and not just changing the profile?
  7. Here are some buttons, which work in certain modes:
    ‘#’
    - in standby mode, pressing and holding the button - turn on / off the sound, in SMS dialing - switch the input language, and in browser mode with SmartFit disabled - general form pages with a frame to move the browsing screen around the web page (this only applies to phones with the latest generations of firmware, for example W980i, W995i, C510, and in my experience - if you have just such a firmware, then it's better to go to www with SmartFit disabled - so more convenient);
    ‘*’
    - in the mode of typing SMS and text - pressing and holding - on / off T9, and in the camera mode in older models (for example, w610i) - on / off the flash.
  8. Almost everywhere where the menu is, they work there buttons 1-9 to call items. If in the main "Menu" mode (click central button joystick), then the phone button that is located in the same position as the menu item on the screen is responsible for calling the desired item ('1' - call the top left item, and '9' or '#' - call the bottom right and etc.). If you take the menu by the "soft button", then the numbers from 1-9 are called from the first point to the ninth.
  9. Almost everything is already phones Sony Ericsson have one very cool feature. Her name is "TrackID". If you hear any melody, but don't know who sings and what the song is called, you turn on TrackID, it records a few seconds of the song (after conventional microphone, but it is also possible from the internal radio) and sends the recorded piece via GPRS to the Sony Ericsson server. After a couple of seconds, you are written on the screen - the name of the album, the name of the song and the name of the artist. All this is free, except for GPRS traffic, and of course, they will not put the server's IP addresses in their own - they are masters of this!
  10. AND last recommendation- do not forget that if you find some glitches on the phone, then good to update phone software directly from itself - “Menu” -> “Settings” -> “General” -> “Update service” -> “Search for updates” (before that, it is better to charge the battery by more than 50%). Before that I recommend making contacts to the internal card of the phone ("Contacts" -> "Functions" -> "Additional functions" -> "Advanced" -> "Copy to card"). Also, if you decide to buy new phone, on the Sony Ericsson website usually for every phone eat it virtual model — try menus, etc..

In general, I love Sony Ericsson for its functionality! There are a lot of subtleties, knowing which, you will be able to work with your phone most efficiently! This, of course, if you have a phone of this brand. If not, then I recommend to think and change your model to it 😉

a swan song

A bit of history:

Ericsson's only source for manufacturing electronic components for mobile phones in the 90s was the Philips plant in New Mexico. In March 2000, a fire broke out at the plant, destroying equipment and putting production lines out of action. Philips was quick to assure Ericsson and Nokia (which also ordered the chips from there) that production would be suspended for no more than a week. It soon became clear that troubleshooting would take several months, and Ericsson was faced with a shortage of components. This called into question its future as a manufacturer of mobile phones. At the same time, problems with the supply of chips also affected Nokia, which was forced to urgently look for new equipment suppliers. Ericsson, the third largest mobile phone manufacturer at the beginning of 2001, faced serious risks caused by fire. In order to reduce production costs, the company decided to cooperate with Asian manufacturers, and in the first place - with Sony.

In August 2001, Sony and Ericsson agreed on the terms for merging their mobile divisions and further cooperation. The total number of employees at the time of the founding of the united enterprise was 3,500 people. Since 2002, both companies finally stopped producing phones under their own brands, and the line planned for 2002-2003 was already produced under the Sony Ericsson trademark.

Afterword:

At the end of October 2011, Ericsson agreed to sell its stake in Sony Ericsson to a Japanese partner.
It's sad that Ericsson, the top cell phone manufacturer at the beginning of the century, did not follow its own path of development, but got in touch with the Japanese monster.

The review will consider the last product of the alliance, which can now be found at an attractive price of 7490 rubles. Campaign, large retailers have decided to get rid of stale Sony Ericsson products and reduce prices. A couple of days ago I could buy a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc for the same amount as Ray. Significantly cheaper, a branded portable charger with a battery for Ray and a bluetooth headset, but it's a pity there is no money to buy everything.

The box made me remember the old days, it is so big that it is now unusual to see it in the era of compactness.
I was more or less pleased with the complete headset, at least a little, but the manufacturer took care of it, unlike HTC, which stick slag everywhere under the name INNOVATION)
The small memory card upset me, remembering the starting price of the product 15990 rubles, it was possible not to be greedy and put 16Gb, or at least 8Gb.

Design

The design of the device is strict, very pleasant with some little things and features. The side edges of the smartphone are covered with metal pads. The top and bottom are made inclined and directed parallel to each other.
The back cover is only in black and has the most successful of the entire line, a matte finish with a metallic sheen.
At the top end there is a 3.5mm headset jack and a universal power/unlock button. On the right side is the volume control key.
At the bottom of the front panel of the device is the only mechanical, large oval-shaped key, which also allows you to unlock the phone and return to the main desktop. On top of the key there is an oval rim with a built-in backlight that informs about missed calls and new messages. The indicator is not happy, during charging it lights up red, then, when the battery reaches a certain capacity, it lights up green and it does not turn off until the end, which makes it absolutely useless.

Exploitation

When you take RAY in your hands for the first time, you are amazed at the compactness and subtlety of the device. Unusual at first, but you soon get used to the small screen with a large resolution of 480x854 pixels and a large number pixels per inch equal (PPI): 297. What makes the picture sharper than anything, individual pixels are very hard to distinguish. At first, I didn’t peel off the film with the indicated characteristics, I thought about buying it, but looking closer, I noticed that the film was there and unrealistically neatly glued.
I have little experience with Android devices, but I will immediately note the graphics performance of Adreno 205, compared to Adreno 200. Dandelion theme SAMSUNG Galaxy The S3 looks much sharper and smoother, thanks to the screen resolution and graphics. I was glad that Angry Birds Stars Wars was finally launched on the 205th chart hurray))))
The camera frankly disappointed me when I found out that the module is the same as in Arc S. It doesn’t shoot as quickly, you need to wait about a second to take a picture (and the flash is unable to give short-term pulses, you can only turn it on and shoot. Without a hardware shutter button you have to click on the screen to get a photo, it is not very convenient and informative.
Music playback is at a decent level, I personally liked this device more than in all my HTCs, but the sound does not reach SAMSUNG Galaxy Note he is still my ideal in the field of playing music))
Version Android 2.3.4 does not want to upgrade to 4.0, writes that the latest and latest is installed (although I read that the manufacturer announced the possibility to upgrade to 4 droids.)

Access to the SIM slot and memory card without removing the battery is not possible.

Testing

The test was carried out using the following programs:
VELLAMO;
AnTuTu Benchmark v.3.0.3;
Smartbench 2010;
Smartbench 2011;
Smartbench 2012.
The sensor was tested using AnTuTu Tester.

The sensor showed excellent performance, multi-touch is designed for 10 simultaneous touches.

Battery Life

As in most Android devices, the life of a smartphone with the active use of Internet resources is within 4 hours 34 minutes. The charging time could not be set, the indicator spoils everything, but it is also standard 2 hours 30 minutes. In terms of autonomy, there are no miracles.

Conclusions:
Phone for fans of former nostalgia for Sony Ericsson. Makes it the last of its kind, which adds a couple of pluses to the image of the device. For its price, design and workmanship, the smartphone is worth $250. Do not miss your chance, there is still an opportunity to buy, now a rare item.

Today, as part of a series of nostalgic materials about legendary phones, we recall the fruits of almost a decade of cooperation between Sony and Ericsson. Both companies had experience in creating mobile phones before cooperation, so it is not surprising that they got really worthwhile and popular devices. The collaboration began when the Philips plant in New Mexico, which supplied electronics for Ericsson, burned down and there were significant difficulties with restoration. The company had to look for other partners. Sony became such a partner; Since 2002, Sony Ericsson phones have been produced. In 2011, Sony bought out the part that belonged to Ericsson and began to produce devices under its own brand.

Sony Ericsson T68i

Let's start with the Sony Ericsson T68i, it was released in 2002 and was a rebranded Ericsson T68 (which was the company's first color phone and just a very successful model). In addition to the logo, name and some color changes The phone did not change anything (hardware). The firmware of the phone was improved, although the Ericsson variant could be upgraded to current version. It was a classic keyboard "monoblock" with STN-screen with a resolution of 101x80, which displayed 256 colors. The device supported SMS, EMS, MMS, Email, WAP 2.0 and xHTML. Were bluetooth modules 1.0b and IrDA. There was no own camera in the device, but if desired, it was possible to connect an external one.

Sony Ericsson T610

The next hero of today's article is the once very popular Sony Ericsson T610, which many still have in working order. The device came out in 2003 and had all the features that would be useful to a mass user (at that time). The gadget was quite pleasant in design, produced in three colors: red, black and blue. In all three cases, the keyboard unit was silver. At the ends of the device were buttons for volume control, camera start and WAP-browser.

The phone was equipped with a STN color display with a resolution of 128x160 which displayed 65K colors. It was one of the first mass-produced phones with a built-in camera that could take pictures with a resolution of 352x288. Sony Ericsson T610 supported MIDI ringtones, screen wallpaper changer, Java, GPRS, WAP 2.0/xHTML, was equipped with an e-mail client, infrared port and Bluetooth 1.0b.

Sony Ericsson K700

One of the representatives of the successful K-line of phones is the K700. It had already installed a TFT-display with a resolution of 220x176, displaying 65K colors. There were 7 lines of text on the screen. The interface has been significantly redesigned compared to previous models. Appeared "Settings Wizard" which, when turned on for the first time, explains the purpose of the main controls and suggests basic setup(date, time, copying data from the SIM card to the phone book).

The phone supported playback of MP3 music and video in 3GPP, although it was of little use as a player: internal memory(accessible to the user) was about 42 MB, and memory cards were not supported. K700 supported Java (MIDP 2.0) and the execution of a 3D engine, which made it possible to play even primitive, but 3d games. The phone was equipped with a 0.3 megapixel camera (640x480), which was able to shoot video with sound. There were IrDA and Bluetooth wireless interfaces.

Sony Ericsson K750i

This article would be incomplete without the legendary K750i, which was released in 2005 and was recognized as the best camera phone of that year. It has a 2 megapixel autofocus camera. LED flash and the ability to shoot video. The chamber was closed with a retractable lid. The phone supported memory cards of its own format Memory Stick Duo and Pro Duo up to 2 GB, which already allowed using the K750i as a player and indulging in frequent shooting with the built-in camera.

The phone has been installed TFT color display with a resolution of 220x176, which displayed 262,000 colors. On the case there were hardware buttons for the camera, volume (responsible for digital zoom in shooting mode) and launching the music player. The gadget had interfaces Bluetooth, IRDA, support for WAP 2.0, GPRS, HTML and mail client POP/SMTP.

Sony Ericsson K790i/K800i

K790i/K800i became the ideological followers of K750i in 2006. They were almost identical: the 800th model supported UMTS and was equipped with a front-facing VGA camera for video communication. These were the company's first camera phones under their Cyber-shot photo brand. It used a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and xenon flash, and again a sliding shutter was provided to protect the lens. The screen has increased both in diagonal up to 2 inches, and the resolution has grown to 320x240. Audio playback was supported in MP3, AAC, MIDI, WAV, AMR, M4A and RA(Real Audio), Java MIDP 2.0 applications. The phones had a built-in modem, infrared port, Bluetooth and FM receiver.

Sony Ericsson W800i

Hardware W800i was similar to K750i. The main differences were the design, firmware and package. It was the company's first mobile phone under the Walkman brand. The phone was beige with bright orange accents and, of course, the Walkman logo. The equipment was somewhat different: there was a headset with earplugs in the kit, and an advanced (taking into account the time) player was programmatically present. Craftsmen installed firmware from W800i to K750i.

Sony Ericsson P990i

Sony Ericsson had a plethora of Symbian smartphones in its product range OS with UIQ shell. They belonged to the P series and were equipped with different type QWERTY keyboards and touch screens. P800, P900, P910 and P990 were equipped with a standard keyboard and flip flip. The later P1i was without a flip, but with an interesting QWERTY keyboard with rocker buttons. Later there was another option without a camera (M600, aka "James Bond smartphone"). The last device with a folding flip was the P990i. It ran on Symbian OS 9.1 with UIQ 3.0.

The smartphone was equipped with a touch screenwith a resolution of 240x320 (240x256 with the flip closed), which displayed 262114 colors, the display diagonal was 2.76 inches. The main camera had a resolution of 2 megapixels with autofocus and a mechanical shutter. Were wireless modules IRDA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the side there was a JogDial wheel known since the first Sony phones.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness X5

Despite the Xperia label, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness X5 was not a smartphone, but it was very interesting in terms of design. It used a transparent screen, which still makes an impression. In the phone, the focus was on the image and design components, the device did not have any special functions. Everything is standard: support WAP, GPRS, EDGE, music formatsMP3, AAC and built-in FM receiver. The case was compact and light.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 became the first communicator, as it was then called Sony Ericsson, was the first of the Xperia line and ran on a not-so-user-friendly operating system Windows system Mobile 6.1 with its own minor revision of the X-Panel, which was supposed to make life a little easier for users. The smartphone was positioned as a business solution. Note the metal case, and QWERTY-keyboard with side extension. The mechanism was not quite standard: in the open position, the screen was located at an angle to the keyboard, which added convenience.

The device was equipped with a 3-inch (which was normal in those days) resistive touch screen with a very high resolution for such sizes 800x480. It was inside 400 MB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, modules bluetooth. Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and GPS and 3.2 megapixel camera.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Let's finish with the first Sony Ericsson device in the operating room Android system. Xperia X10 was released in 2009 and ran on Android 1.6 Donut, later updates to versions 2.1 and 2.3 were released, and on this moment there is a wagon and a small cart custom firmware up to android 4.0. It has a 4" capacitive screen with a resolution of 854x480. Despite the theoretical possibility of multi-touch support, it was not in the device until 2011. Then came out new firmware, some gestures began to be supported, but there were problems with the adequacy of the work. Inside, ridiculous iron by today's standards was used: a single-core Qualcomm processor Snapdragon QSD8250 with clock frequency 1 GHz, 384 MB of RAM and 1 GB of internal memory, expandable with microSD memory cards.

We look at what happened and what happened to the company, about which there are so many good memories.

At the end of last week, I returned from Sochi, where the official presentation of the new line of Sony Xperia X smartphones took place. About the trip - later.

I was thinking along the way. Over the past five years, we have seen first-hand the death of the largest smartphone brands. The all-powerful Nokia has virtually disappeared. Sunk into oblivion Palm. Almost dissolved Blackberry. Scary (and weird) things are happening to HTC.

The market is being taken over by wild, regularly lying "Chinese" who often have no respect for their customers - just low prices and/or attractive design. There is less and less real choice between really high-quality smartphones.

It's good that someone stayed. Sony of those who have withstood the onslaught of China and are slowly finding their niche - at least judging by the announcement of the X line.

It's time to remember what they pleased in the previous period of success - when they were called not Sony Mobile, but Sony Ericsson.

What I remember from Sony Ericsson times

Everyone will have their own model, their own story, so go to the comments - let's see who has what pipe :)

A lot of time has passed, but I remember these phones best of all:

Sony Ericsson T68i

2002

One of the first color phones I ever saw. I remember it with a convenient joystick, a cool shape and a pumped version of the “snake” in preinstalled games. Who remembers what it was called - special respect :)

Sony Ericsson W800

2005

Everyone was talking about him and really wanted to touch everything. That's what the Walkman brand used to do with people :) Corporate colors, a stylized design theme and a music player, plus a separate launch button - in principle, everything this phone could boast of. But Walkman itself sold the model in packs, and Java toys worked very well on it.

Sony Ericsson k750

2005

I still regret that I sold it at the time! The camera was simply incredible: from sharpness to color reproduction, there were no analogues on the market at all. Entire sites opened up, where people posted pictures from the k750i. Many more were interested in the mechanical shutter of the camera, a rare thing at that time. Tellingly, the phone itself also worked quickly. It was a real flagship, without "but".

Sony Ericsson T650i

2007

I was terribly driven along this tube. It seems that in the end I had 3 or 4 of these models. I really liked the design and quality of the case - it was a piece of metal and a display made of mineral glass, not plastic. The only downside is that the paint on the keyboard wears off over time. I still consider it one of the most stylish phones ever released.

Sony Ericsson M600

2006

One of the first smartphones on the market - 2.6 inch display. Advanced operating system - Symbian 9.1. And also an interesting rocker keyboard, as well as a physical scroll wheel on the side. Did I already say that it was touch sensitive and recognized handwriting? The M600 surprised with its "advancement", everyone wanted to hold it, poke it in the menu. By the way, in just 1 year the first iPhone will be presented, and such phones will sink into oblivion.

Sony Ericsson W580

2007

The last smartphone from SE in my collection. A cool slider with a good screen and a constantly breaking keyboard :) I got used to replacing it myself. Worked quickly, but otherwise not very pleased. It began to seem that the Erricksons were losing their grip, that Nokia was catching up with them. Time put everyone in their place, and then I changed 2 of these phones and eventually put the last one in a distant box.

What's cool with Sony now + share your stories

To be honest, until the last year I was interested in smartphones from Sony on a residual basis. They did not have such models that they not only surprised, but wanted to take them and buy them. Unless the huge "phablets" of the series Z.

But I left the presentation of the X line with a positive impression. It looks like Sony has finally decided what sees her devices - and what features she wants to make branded.

For example, now everywhere they will have rounded glass. The highest quality camera modules are installed. operating system are going to touch at least. The front bezels of the display are painted to match the body color (cuckoo, Apple).

Of the new Xperia X line, I was most impressed by the model XA, which we will tell you more about. In the meantime, the “middle class” has appeared on sale - model X, 39,990 rubles.

Push-button mobile phones Sony Ericsson are in great demand as retro models. Much easier to manage than modern gadgets, and they hold the charge much longer, and they catch the signal no worse.
