How to make a numeric keypad. Turning on T9 on Meizu - two main ways

The virtual (on-screen) keyboard is an analogue of the physical keyboard, which is controlled by . This article will show you how to enable the on-screen keyboard on Windows 7, 8, as well as how to configure, use and start it, disable it when the OS boots.

The keyboard on the computer screen is necessary in such cases:

  1. missing physical device input.
  2. The input device is not working properly or the keys are not working on it.
  3. Health problems holding back from normal input

How to turn on the keyboard on the computer screen

The virtual input device startup file is located in the System32 folder of the Windows directory and is called osk.exe, from here you can call virtual keyboard, but few people will use such actions. There are enough ways to enable the on-screen keyboard on Windows 7, 8. Let's look at each of them in more detail.

Enabling virtual input device in Windows 7:

To configure the input format and other settings, click the "Settings" button. Here you can change the following settings:

  1. Audible Confirmation – Each press of the virtual keys will emit a beep.
  2. Turn on numeric keypad– includes additional buttons on the right. With the help of it was made in the last article.
  3. Keystrokes - sets the input by clicking the left mouse button.
  4. Hovering over the keys - the character is entered when the mouse cursor is hovered over it, with the ability to select the hover duration.
  5. Scanning keys - selection of a range of buttons in one line across the entire width, then after pressing the selection keys, scanning takes place over the selected line in a smaller range until the required button is pressed. You can set the scanning speed.
  6. Text prediction - options allow you to suggest word options when typing the first letters and put a space after them.

After changing the parameters, do not forget to click OK.

I would also like to note that when you press Fn, the F1-F12 buttons appear in place of the numbers. When the numeric keypad is enabled, press Num Lock to access the numbers.

In Windows 7, 8, there are practically no differences in the on-screen keyboard, except that the number eight has a number of additional buttons for improved control. These are the Nav (move), Mv Up (up), Mv Dn (down), Dock (pin), Fade (disappear) buttons.

So we looked at all the ways to enable the on-screen keyboard on Windows 7, 8, as well as the startup process, disabling its startup. virtual device input completely mimics the actions of the buttons of a conventional keyboard with the ability to customize to your needs.

Regular keyboards are divided into several sectors. On the far right side is the numeric keypad. In laptops, this section is either completely combined with the main keyboard, or removed altogether, adding the function of entering numbers to other keys on the right side of the main unit.

Whether or not you have a numeric keypad on your laptop, it's not always enabled. And the Num Lock key, which is designed to activate it in standard keyboards, may simply be missing. How to turn it on or off?

There are three ways to do this. One of them will definitely suit you.

1. Press the Num Lock key. If it is, it is usually located at the top right of the entire keyboard. More precisely, somewhere on the upper left of the numeric keypad. Sometimes during its activation, a special indicator turns on, the same as for Caps keys lock. Do not look for him for a long time, he may not be there either.

2. Key combination Fn + F11. Most often, this combination works on those laptops where there is no numeric keypad at all. More precisely - it is combined with the main block of keys. The Fn + F11 combination changes the functionality of the right keyboard block from numeric to regular and vice versa. In rare cases, it activates / deactivates a separate sector of the number keys.

By the way, on different laptops the combination may differ, for example, not Fn + F11, but Fn + F10 or Fn + Fn12. Try it. Just be careful doing this experiment. You can change other settings such as mute, lock the keyboard, turn off the screen, and more. Simply, while trying, press the key combination twice in order to deactivate a certain function and immediately activate it back.

3. On-screen keyboard. This method is the simplest, most original and at the same time effective. I bought an Acer Aspire laptop. There is an additional keyboard, but Num Lock is missing, and combinations with Fn are for other tasks. I fiddled with turning on the numeric keypad until I came across this elegantly simple method.

Open the on-screen keyboard. It usually displays the current state of your actual keyboard. That is, both the numeric block and the Num Lock key may also not be displayed on it. In this case, on the on-screen keyboard, press the "Settings" key. A window will open where you need to check the box to enable the numeric keypad. We turn it on and see that the digital block has appeared. Next, click on Num Lock. Voila, the keyboard is activated.

For those who don't know, you can find the on-screen keyboard in the Start / Accessories / Special abilities/ Screen keyboard". Or even easier - "Start", in the search menu, enter "keyboard" or "keyboard". The system will present the found options, between which you will definitely find an on-screen keyboard.

On most modern phones there is a typing function using the T9 service. With it, you can make the likelihood of errors when typing is minimal. If the system is installed, then it will automatically select words based on the characters already entered and complete the phrases. Even if you make a mistake, she will be able to put the right letter.

But what if your phone or this function is not set by default? Do I need to additionally install some software on Flame, or can I configure everything directly on the phone without third party programs? Today we will figure out how to enable T9 on Meizu M3S, and other similar models from this manufacturer.

The easiest way in this case is to work through the settings of your phone. More specifically, it is necessary to use the on-off T9. However, it should be understood that not all phones this function can be activated in this way. So, the algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. Go to the "Settings" menu.
  2. Select the "Language and input" section.
  3. Your machine's keyboard is displayed. In our case, the Meizu keyboard should be displayed.
  4. We select this item, and in the tab that appears, click on "Smart input".
  5. Here again a list of available options will appear, among which you must select "Mode T9".

By clicking on it, you can turn text input on or off using the smart prompt system.

Russian Keyboard app

On some firmware, there is no possibility of activating T9 at all. Then you need to use an alternative option and resort to installing additional application. It is called Russian Keyboard. If you do not know how to install it, then we will help you figure it out.

  1. We go to using our account information.
  2. We enter the name "Russian Keyboard" in the search for applications.
  3. We agree to download the application to your phone.

When the download is complete, go to "Settings", selecting "Language and keyboard" there. Then, by default, we set the use of the Russian Keyboard application. Next, we indicate the Russian keyboard in the "Input Methods" menu. Immediately after that, all texts will automatically be typed in this way.

Smart Keyboard app

One alternative to the T9 is the Smart Keyboard program. This is a great option if you've lost your T9 system but really want to use predictive text input. Moreover, here the dictionary is more extensive and there is more correct recognition of words during input. Yes, the app is faster.

The principle of operation in this case is exactly the same as in the previous case. Across Google Play download the program and install it. Through the settings, we set the Smart Key as the main program for entering text. Problems when typing text from that moment disappear once and for all.

How to disable T9?

Most Meizu phones allow quick turn on and shutdown T9. To do this, go to any of the applications where you need to enter text. For example, you can go to text messages.

Hold your finger on the input field for a few seconds, and the “Input Method” window will immediately pop up. One of the proposed options will be T9. Tap on it, you can both enable and disable the system.

The keyboard sidebar with numbers is a handy thing to use. After all, the keys on it are arranged in the usual order, like on a calculator. Sometimes it is very convenient to quickly calculate something. If these keys fail or break, you have to spend a lot of time typing numbers using the main keyboard. What to do in this case? And how can you enable the set if you don’t have a sidebar on the right at all? Let's find out!

How to enable side numbers on the keyboard on the right

Any keyboard consists of several blocks. So, we can distinguish:

  • Letter block;
  • Function key block (F1, F4, etc.);
  • Additional numeric keypad block.

In addition, of course, there are action keys (Shift, Ctrl).

In this article, we will look specifically at the optional numeric keypad. On some computers and laptops, it is allocated in a separate sector, on others it is in close proximity to the alphabetic one, and on others it is completely absent. In this case, the latter option is typical only for laptops.

On the computer

Keyboard for personal computers usually more than for laptops. Accordingly, manufacturers distribute the free space in such a way that the user is most comfortable working with all the keys. Therefore, the numeric keypad is often isolated in a separate sector.

In the photo, all the keys of the additional keyboard (on the right) are highlighted in a separate group. In the upper left corner of this group is the NumLock button (for different models location may vary). Pressing it turns on the numeric keypad.

With NumLock off, the keys will behave differently. So, arrows are drawn under the numbers 8, 4, 6 and 2. This means that these keys will work like regular directional buttons (which are located to the left of the number block).

In addition, the names of the Home, PgUp, PgDown, End, Insert, Delete buttons, which can be found above the direction keys, are written on the keys with the numbers 7, 9, 1, 3, 0 and ",". When "NumLock" is off, these buttons will be responsible for the corresponding actions.

So, enabling/disabling NumLock does not result in complete shutdown side keyboard, but to change the purpose of some keys.

On a laptop

On laptops, the numeric keypad is usually located closer to the letter block. This allows manufacturers to save on the size of the entire device.

Otherwise, enabling / disabling the number keys is done in exactly the same way as on computer keyboard. But it happens that there is no side panel of number keys on a laptop.

In this case, the developers have arranged the number keys in a slightly different way. They are on alphabetic as additional.

Moreover, the number keys can be applied to other buttons. It depends on the publisher.

To switch the keyboard to the mode of using additional numeric keys, you need to press a certain combination of keys. It may vary on different laptops. For example, in our case, you need to simultaneously press the Fn and Ins keys (since NumLock is written in blue on the Ins button).

In general, this action is no different from simply pressing NumLock on a computer. Only in our case, when NumLock is off, the keys will print letters, and when it is on, the corresponding numbers and mathematical signs.

How to disable

Disabling the number keys on the side keyboard on the right (or alphabetic for some laptops) is done in exactly the same way as turning it on. We describe the necessary actions briefly:

  • If you have a side keyboard, pressing the NumLock key will disable it (more precisely, switch to another functionality, as we indicated above).
  • If you don't have a side keyboard, look for the numbers on the letter keys. In order to disable these numbers (switch them to letters), you need to press the key combination, which may differ for different laptop models. Usually this is the Fn + button [some function key].

Possible problems and solutions

It may well be that turning the side keyboard on / off does not affect its operation in any way: you press NumLock, but you still cannot enter numbers. Or one particular button may not work. Let's consider each problem separately and try to find the best solutions.

Side number keyboard not working after turning on the computer

If you want the sidebar with number keys to work immediately after enabling operating system, you need to change the corresponding setting in the BIOS. First of all, restart (turn on) the computer and click the login button BIOS menu. It can be the Del, F12 or any other button, depending on the computer (laptop) model. You can find out which key to press on the screen that appears immediately after turning on the device.

In the window that opens, go to the "Boot" tab. There you will find the "NumLock Key" option (it may be called differently, for example, "NumLock Enable"). Press Enter and switch the value to "On" or "Enabled". Go to the "Exit" tab and exit the BIOS, saving the changes.

The next time you turn on your computer, the side keyboard will work immediately.

The side numbers on the right do not work

If the side numeric keypad doesn't work when you press NumLock (or another function key), that key is the problem. Probably the contact has come off or the keyboard is clogged. One way or another, you will need the help of a specialist.

Before contacting service center, it makes sense to check if something is really wrong with this or that button. You can do this using the on-screen keyboard.

To open the On-Screen Keyboard program, which is built into Windows by default, open the Start menu. Click on "All Programs" and find the "Accessories" folder. It contains another folder - "Accessibility". The program you are looking for is here.

"On-Screen Keyboard" is a full-fledged substitute for the usual one. The keys in it are pressed with the left mouse button. To check if each individual numeric keypad button works, in the program window, click Options and select Enable numeric keypad.

Now click on the "NUMLOCK" button in the program interface, and then try to enter numbers using the hardware side keyboard.

If the numbers are entered, then the problem is specifically in the "NumLock" key. Contact the master to clean the keyboard and check its serviceability.

By the way, with the help of the On-Screen Keyboard program, you can work without a hardware one at all. For example, if you handed it in for repair. It will also help you if any keys are missing or inconveniently located.

Letters are typed instead of numbers

This issue may be familiar to laptop users. If your keyboard prints a number when you press the letter button, then NumLock is enabled. To turn it off, you need to press the key combination mentioned above. In addition, it may be that always after turning on the computer, the letter keys print numbers. In this case, you need to disable the "NumLock Key" option in the BIOS. How to do this is also described above.

Wrong letters printed

This problem is equally common on computers and laptops. The cause of this keyboard behavior is most often a clogged malfunction.

So, several keypress sensors could stick together or even fail after some liquid was spilled on the keyboard. Note that if your keyboard prints the wrong letters, the reason is the same. In any case, you need to contact a specialist. It may well be that the device cannot be repaired at all. Then you have to buy a new one.

If you accidentally spill any liquid on your keyboard, it's best to take it to a service center right away. Even if it works now, a malfunction can occur in weeks, or even months.

Always keep your computer or laptop clean. Wipe the screen and keyboard with a dry cloth or special wet wipes. This will help keep your device in good condition now and save money on repairs in the future.

Specifics of working with gaming peripherals

A gaming keyboard, of course, costs more (sometimes much) than a regular one. The point here is not only in the brand, but also in functionality.

Keyboards for gamers have increased key responsiveness, which can even be customized. In addition, there are special drivers for controlling such thin professional equipment. In such programs, you can set up different keyboard shortcuts for one button (macros). This is often necessary for shooter or strategy players when everything needs to be done as quickly as possible.

With the help of macros, you can also assign some alphabetic keys to enter numbers. This may come in handy for various occasions. For example, if you need to quickly change weapons in the game, or if the side keys on the right are broken.

Buying an additional keyboard

If your laptop does not have a side keyboard with numbers, and you are not comfortable using the letter keys, it makes sense to purchase an additional keyboard.

You can connect this small device to a laptop via a USB cable. The convenience of using such a keyboard lies in the fact that it can be placed anywhere, even picked up as if it were a familiar calculator. In addition, you can turn it off if you don't need it. This is convenient when using a laptop on the road.

There are also special additional keyboards for gamers. But in this case, they are usually intended for other functions than for entering numbers. These functions are configured in the driver.

Any problem with the side keyboard usually lies in the inclusion / deactivation of some functions. If none of the suggestions in the article helped you, then something is wrong with the mechanical part of the device. In this case, you can only take it in for repair. In any case, try to treat the keyboard with trepidation. Regular cleaning will help prevent whole line problems, up to the breakdown of the device.

The Siri virtual assistant is famous for doing voice commands, but it can also be interacted with via messages.

By turning on the "Typing for Siri" function, you can chat with the assistant messages. Text command"set a timer for 5 minutes" will be performed exactly the same as the voice.

This option is part of Accessibility in Mac OS, just like in iOS.

How to writeSirimessages inMac OS

The feature is available in macOS High Sierra 10.13 and later.

  1. Go to the  Apple menu and select " System settings».
  2. Then select "Accessibility" and click "Siri" in the sidebar.
  3. Check the box next to the "Enter text for Siri" option.
  4. Close settings.

You can now send Siri commands as messages instead of speaking them out loud.

Siri is activated in the same way as before - by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner of the screen, by clicking on the icon in the dock, or by a key combination. But now you don't have to say the command out loud, you can enter it as text.

If you don't know what Siri can do, you can read. We also recommend reading about the virtual assistant.
