Currency conversion on the stock exchange has a very serious advantage over any other methods of currency exchange - the minimum difference between the price of its purchase and sale. Moreover, the minimum spread is maintained even during periods of serious exchange rate fluctuations, which, of course, no bank can boast of.

True, do not forget that brokers (companies that provide access to the exchange) also want to eat something and provide their services not at all for free.

There is another drawback to buying currency on the stock exchange, many people consider such currency exchange operations to be too complicated, incomprehensible and requiring serious preparation. However, this is just an opinion and not the ultimate truth.

In this article, we will consider in detail the process of buying a currency through a broker on the stock exchange, and everyone will be able to appreciate how profitable and simple it is.

Today we are not faced with the task of comparing the rates and conditions of various brokers (Opening, BCS, KIT Finance, Finam, Alfa Direct, etc.). Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages, some, for example, are more suitable for speculation, others have more convenient and cheaper ways to deposit/withdraw currencies, etc.

The main goal for today is gaining access to trading on the stock exchange, replenishing a brokerage account, buying currency, withdrawing currency to a bank account. In other words, we will not dive into the jungle, we are only interested in “takeoff and landing”.

To solve this problem, we will use the services of Alfa-Direct, the brokerage division of Alfa-Bank, which provides direct access to trading on the stock exchange.

Gaining access to trading. Opening a brokerage account Alfa-Direct

1 Registration in Alfa Direct.

Alfa-Bank has free express accounts and a free express card that work without connecting service packages, however, judging by the latest feedback from Alfa-Bank customers, the bank now does not open these accounts without a service package and free express does not provide a card. But you can ask, they don’t take money for asking.

Previously, Alfa customers had another way to use Alfa Click services and an express card without connecting paid service packages. It was enough to open My Safe NT savings accounts in three currencies and receive an express card for them, but these accounts could only be opened until April 27, 2016:

Therefore, it makes sense to install the Alfa-Direct 4.0 terminal, for which no fee is charged. We take the program directly on the website "Alfa-Direct" :

6 Confirmation of the relevance of the account.

We go to Personal Area"Alfa Direct" in the "Accounts and Portfolios" section and click on the "Confirm Relevance" button (this operation will require an EDS):

So, we have access to the Alfa-Direct personal account, an EDS, an open main brokerage account, as well as 3 accounts for trading on the currency section and the Alfa-Direct 4.0 trading terminal.

The procedure for gaining access to trading, although it looks long, actually takes only two days and is absolutely free. You only need to pay for the package of services and maintenance of a multicurrency card if you are not an Alfa client.

Currency section. Basic concepts

Alfa-Direct provides us with the opportunity to trade dollars and euros on the FX Market of the Moscow Exchange. The minimum lot is 1,000 US dollars or 1,000 euros, i.e. we will not be able to buy or sell a smaller amount of currency:

You can make purchases in two markets, with settlements today (TOD - today) and tomorrow (TOM - tomorrow). If we bought a currency on the TOD market, then the actual delivery of our dollars or euros will take place on the same day. If TOM is on the market, then the next day. You can buy / sell currency on the TOD market from 10.00 to 15.00, on the TOM market - from 10.00 to 23.50:

Replenishment of Alfa-Direct brokerage account

Replenishment of a brokerage account from one's accounts with Alfa-Bank takes 5 minutes. In order for the transfer to be credited on the current day, it must be made before 14.45. Replenishment is not available from 14.45 to 15.30:

Buying currency on the stock exchange through the Alfa-Direct terminal

When you first open the terminal, an unprepared person will think that everything is too complicated. However, it only takes a few steps to simply buy $1,000. Left click on the BP TOD USD field (now we want to buy dollars for delivery today, if we needed euros, we would need to click on BP TOD EUR). Then click on the $ icon at the top of the chart to open the trading panel:

A panel has opened in front of us, with the help of which we can place a limit order for the purchase of US dollars, i.e. indicate the price at which we are willing to buy the currency. :

Next, enter the amount of currency we want to buy in the "Lots" column. In our case, this is 1 lot, i.e. 1000$. Transaction type - "Limit". Click on the button "BUY LMT" (buy). In the "Price" field, enter the price at which we are ready to buy the currency, for example, 65.22 rubles, and click "Submit". The current price of the currency at that time was 65.27.

The order price can be changed by dragging the cursor on the chart. Please note that during operations, our flash drive with an EDS must be in the computer and displayed as a green key in the upper left corner of the terminal:

This application can also be changed or cancelled. If we do not want to wait for a certain price, we can immediately buy at the current one. To do this, you need to send an order to buy a currency with any price that is higher than the current one (you can see it on the chart or directly in the "glass" to the right of the chart. Red marks are orders for the sale of a currency, blue - for a purchase).

We set the price higher than the current one, click "Submit".

We bought 1 lot of currency at the current rate, in our case at 65.2875. On the chart, the moment of the transaction is marked with a green triangle. In the "Operations" window, the conversion time and the price at which we bought the currency are indicated.

We click on the "Position" tab above the chart and see our $ 1007.37 on the dollar account, and 4712.5 rubles (70000-65287.5) remain on the ruble account.

Alfa-Direct commission for the purchase of currency. Comparison with competitors

To compare how profitable it was to buy $ 1,000 on the stock exchange, compared with other methods, you need to take into account the Alfa-Direct commission for the transaction.

So, if the volume of transactions is less than 50 million rubles for the last month, Alpha will take 0.051% commission on the transaction amount:

In our case, we had 70,000 rubles in our account, we bought $ 1,000 at the rate of 65.2875. After the commission was deducted, 4598.97 remained on the ruble brokerage account (the commission is not calculated on the same day):

This means that the amount of the commission that Alfa-Direct pinched off for itself is 70000-65287.5-4598.97 = 113.53 rubles.

In other words, the purchase of 1000 US dollars cost us 65287.5 rubles. (the rate that we caught on the exchange) + 113.53 rubles. (the value of the Alfa-Direct commission for the completed transaction) = 65401.03 rubles.

Those. we can say that in fact the dollar purchase rate on the stock exchange for us was 65.40 rubles. for 1 USD (not 65.2875).

This currency purchase rate turned out to be much more profitable than Sberovsky, where it was proposed to lay out 67.61 rubles for one US dollar.

Start of work in Alfa Direct

The menu contains all the functions available in the terminal. In addition to the main menu, the system allows you to work with context menus that are called by right-clicking the mouse.
The toolbar in the program is customizable. It is intended for the most frequently used functions. To customize the toolbar go to Tools | Parameters.
Alpha Direct also allows you to customize your tabs. The convenient arrangement of tabs makes the work of a trader more convenient and faster. Tabs are configured using context menu.

Quotes in Alfa Direct

Viewing quotes is one of the main functions of any trading terminal. In Alpha Direct, the Quotes window, as a rule, displays data on the most recent quotes. To call this window, go to the menu Information | Quotes or click the corresponding button on the toolbar. The Quotes window contains 49 fields, but 8 fields are displayed by default. In this window, you can buy or sell securities. Using the context menu, you can build a chart, add an instrument, or set up a filter.

An additional advantage of the program is the ability to drag and drop tools from this window to others.

Registration of applications in the terminal

The Orders window contains information on the orders of the current day. To quickly open this window, use the button on the toolbar. There are 28 fields available in this window, but basic settings only 16 are shown.

Registration and login to your personal account

Logging into the system is done by entering a password, which is recommended to be changed periodically, using the username (personal identification code given during registration). Operations within the system are always confirmed by an electronic signature.

Registration in the Alfa-Direct system requires the creation electronic signature, which individuals can be obtained in either of two ways:

1. By creating a key yourself on a usb drive, registering and uploading software Alfa Direct on Personal Computer. After that, a visit to the bank is obligatory to sign an agreement on opening an account, citizens of the Russian Federation present a passport, foreigners - a passport of their country. It is allowed to start working on the exchange the next day after replenishing the brokerage account from the current one.
2. In the service department of Alfa-Bank JSC. Having arrived at the bank branch with a passport, the client draws up an agreement to open a brokerage account in the system, deposits the minimum amount and gets usb device Rutoken. The activation of the token is carried out on the site online, after the Alfa-Direct program is installed on the computer.

When registering through the official website of Alfa-Direct, you must specify:

Many people ask me what terminal I use to trade shares on the Russian stock market. I answer. My favorite terminal is Alpha Direct.

That is why today I will tell you about this terminal and trading in it.

Yes, I also use the QUIK terminal from another broker, but QUIK makes me sick. Though in the future I'll tell you how to buy stocks via QUIK (article!). Just for general knowledge. Maybe someone will like QUIK more. How to say the taste and color ...

But today we will talk about the Alpha Direct Terminal. More precisely, about his most stable version — 3.5.

Unfortunately, I did not like the next version 4.0 even at the testing stage. Of course, I used it, corresponded several times with the developers about the jambs, and that's it. I did not see any pluses in it, but there were a lot of minuses. Starting with the inability to transfer transactions from version 3.5 to version 4.0 and vice versa, and ending with the fact that the ACI for bonds was not displayed.

So today I will describe to you exactly Alpha Direct Terminal version 3.5.

Terminal Alpha Direct. Where to begin.

To begin with, let's define that each broker has its own distribution of the terminal. That is, almost all brokers offer the QUIK terminal for use, but you need to download your own for each, since it is configured specifically for the servers of this broker.

I am already silent about the fact that you should not download the brokerage terminal from the "left" sites and torrents!

And so, you can safely download the Alfa Direct terminal from the site of the Alfa Direct broker itself in the Services - Software section. You can also download other terminals there. For example, the same QUIK.

I don't think it's worth explaining that only an Alfa Direct client can use the terminal. Although there seems to be a demo version left that you could install and poke at the buttons, you won’t see any functionality. There, even online updating of quotes is disabled!

So who has not yet run to the Alfa-Bank branch and signs an agreement with Alfa Direct (do not forget to take a clean flash drive to create a key!). The rest can safely move on to installing the terminal.

After installation, you will also need to install the digital signature software that you have on the USB flash drive. On the broker's website, you will see a link to Crypto-Pro. Yes, a nice bonus — this product is completely free for Alfa Direct users!

To install and register Crypto-Pro, it is better to use the Instructions located on the broker's website next to the download link. I won't explain it separately here, because the installation procedure is changing, and I don't want to mislead people who will read this article in a year or two.

Well, we have installed Crypto-Pro and the Alfa Direct terminal itself. Now just run it and enter your username and password. Ready! Here we are in the terminal. If the credentials are correct, the terminal will show you a window with a welcome message. If not, then check your username and password, maybe you made a mistake somewhere.

Working with the Alfa Direct terminal

I warn you right away that this is a subjective opinion. Here I describe my personal experience and my personal settings that are right for me and may not be right for you.

But in general, if your goal is long-term stock ownership, and not daily speculation, then most of what I have described will work for you.

The first thing we will see is the standard terminal windows installed by default.

You can safely close most of them right away! You are unlikely to need them.

What can be left?

Of course, it is worth leaving the window with the MICEX index chart in order to understand which way the wind is blowing.

And I also leave a table with the rise / fall of stocks for the current trading day. It is convenient to immediately focus on sharp ups and downs.

There are windows with Balance, Deals, Orders and, most importantly, Positions for already purchased securities.

I immediately warn you, below are screenshots taken a few months ago, so please do not ask questions about the relevance of the data indicated in the tables themselves, they are here only for an example!

So what do we see in these windows?

Balance. Of all the proposed columns, I leave only the account number, the total Balance, the amount of cash and the size of the Long position, that is, how much money I have invested in the purchased securities. I don’t play short, so I don’t need another line with this indicator.

Deals. Here you can find information about completed transactions. As you can see in the image here, I also display only the most necessary information: The instrument for which the transaction was made, K (buy) or P (sell), price and quantity. I also display Sum and Total. But to be honest, one of these columns can be safely removed. In fact, in the Total column, we see the amount including the commission of the exchange and the broker, and the Amount shows only the net amount spent on the acquisition, excluding commissions.

Applications. All your buy or sell orders are stored here.

We also see only the most necessary columns. Issue (name of a share or bond), Purchase or Sale (C/S), Price at which we want to buy or sell, Quantity, Remaining how many more unsold or unpurchased securities in the order (you can immediately see when the order was only partially executed) and Valid, the date until which the application is active.

Moreover, all your applications are not stored on the exchange server, but on the servers of the Alfa Direct broker!

This is a very big plus of the Alfa Direct terminal!

In all brokerage terminals, when placing an order, you clearly indicate: either execute at current prices (market), or indicate the price at which you want to make a deal and the date until which the deal will be active (limited). In terminals such as QUIK, your limit order, if the conditions are met, immediately goes to the MICEX trading platform and queues up for execution. And regardless of whether it will be executed or not in the evening, the exchange removes your order from the order book.

Thus, a situation may arise that you will not buy anything or will not be able to sell, although the application will work. If your order is not executed, then the next morning you will need to put it back into the trading system through the terminal. And placing limited orders in QUIK is still that hemorrhoids!

Of course, you can simplify everything by using a pocket in QUIK for storing applications and uploading information from it every morning. But I will explain this later when I tell you how to buy shares through QUIK.

Why is the Alpha Direct terminal better?

In the case of placing limited orders, they are displayed on the exchange in the same way when triggered, BUT if the order is not executed, or is only partially executed, it does not disappear anywhere. Just the next morning, the broker again brings it to the stock exchange.

The application in the Alfa Direct terminal is not lost and is either executed or hangs in the "My applications" list until the expiration date. Very comfortably!

Positions. The best window! It displays information on all the papers you have available. For convenience, this table can also be cut, leaving only the fields of interest to you.

The most needed are the following fields:

Release. The name of the security and to which issuer it belongs. Without this, you simply will not understand what kind of shares or bonds you have.

share. It is also a very convenient thing, showing the share of each paper in your portfolio (as a percentage). It is always worth having it in front of your eyes, as it is more informative than looking at the amount of funds for each paper.

Position. Shows the number of shares purchased. It is shares in pieces, not in lots! Don't get confused. This is not a required position. You can safely turn it off so that it does not annoy your eyes.

To purchase and For sale. It displays information about the number of securities that you are going to buy or sell. Just like Position is not a required field. Instead, you can quite conveniently count the number of securities to buy and sell in the "My orders" section.

Volume. The cost of your position for each separate category of securities in rubles. Gives an idea of ​​how much they cost this moment all shares of a particular issuer available to you.

Account price. The price at which you purchase securities. In the case of several purchases, the average price is shown. (For example, if you bought one share at 10 and another at 20, then the discount price will be 15. I think this is elementary). In QUIK, by the way, for some reason I incorrectly calculate the discount price. Usually there are just zeros. And this is not convenient. And that means that this is another plus for Alfa.Direct.

Price. The current market price of one security. How much it cost on the stock exchange at the time of the last transaction.

Percentage of profit or loss. A good benchmark showing how profitable a deal was to buy securities. It is logical that if the number is positive, then the security is now more expensive than you bought it in the past, and if the number is minus, then you are incurring losses. Of course, an investor whose investment horizon is more than 5 years can generally turn off this column so as not to make himself nervous. But I keep it in front of my eyes as a good indicator. If the line shows a serious minus and at the same time everything is in order with the issuer's activity, then this is a signal for additional purchases and averaging.

NKD. For those who have bonds in their portfolio, the Alfa Direct terminal has a separate column for displaying the accumulated coupon income (ACI). It is convenient to see in real time how many rubles of each coupon you will receive if you sell the bond right now. NKD in the Alfa Direct terminal is immediately added to your balance. That is, you see exactly how much money you have in your account at any given time. As far as I know, you don't see this in QUIK. There, if you bought a bond for 1000 rubles, then this amount will remain in your balance sheet until the moment when the issuer pays the coupon. Although in reality, if you sell a share before the coupon is paid, you will receive accumulated coupon income (ACI). So it turns out that QUIK underestimates the amount that you actually have in the balance line, but the Alfa Direct terminal shows it correctly.

That's basically all I use to keep track of my portfolio.

Terminal Alpha Direct. Let's start trading!

So. We have installed the Alfa Direct terminal. All the windows we needed were placed. Now you need to learn how to buy and sell!

The logical first step is to bookmark the terminal window with the charts of the stocks that you are going to track and buy in the future.

To do this, just click right click on one of the already open tabs and select the "Add" menu item.

As a result, you will add another tab in which you can add the information you need. For example, chart.

By the way, the schedule here is also very convenient to set up. For a specific timeframe, specifying how many days you need history for. Set color scheme. Select display options (bars, candles or lines: open, close, min/max per day). You can add indicators and various linear tools if you need.

As a result, you will get a chart of one of the securities.

By right-clicking on this chart, you can quickly place an order to buy or sell.

There are also several interesting moments which I didn't find in other terminals.

Here is an example of a trade order to buy Gazprom shares.

On the left we have a trading glass. Unfortunately, the screen was taken in work time exchanges and therefore the glass is empty. But during working hours, you see in it the best offers to buy or sell that are closest to the current price.

If you have no desire to engage in high-frequency trading, then in principle the first bookmark will be enough for you.

In my opinion, everything is clear enough. One window for any type of transaction. No need to select separately different types applications and submit them separately as in QUIK.
