When installing an update through recovery, it gives an error. "Installation aborted" error with firmware: what to do, solutions and possible causes

In some cases, Xiaomi devices start to crash, glitch, or even some of the main functions fail, which makes it impossible to use them normally. To eliminate any problems cardinal, but at the same time effective way, you can always reflash the device. The article will discuss how firmware is produced through TWRP and how this way better than alternatives to it (with detailed instruction for implementation).

Initially, it is worth understanding what TWRP is, and then talking about how to install the desired firmware using it. In fact, everything is quite simple if you read the decoding of this abbreviation: TeamWin recovery. In fact, this is an unofficial recovery that can replace the standard software of any smartphone running on Android platform. TWRP is also called custom and most users who have dealt with it and with standard recovery believe that TWRP is more efficient, functional and easy to use, besides it allows you to install kernels, modems and other system components of the firmware in addition to custom firmware .

Next, a more detailed instruction for TWRP recovery will be presented, with which you can install the firmware on any device from Xiaomi (the instruction has general form, insofar as system files for different models often differ).

It should be said right away that in order to install custom firmware, it is recommended to delete all data from the phone, which means that you need to make them for subsequent recovery on a device with a clean system. Also important is the smartphone (bootloader). About how we have already been mentioned in one of the articles, and therefore we will immediately move on to information on how to reflash a device using TWRP with our own hands.

Algorithm for working with TWRP for Xiaomi devices

So, when TWRP is already installed on Xiaomi device, and also, of course, the bootloader is unlocked, you can proceed with the procedure. It is also important to have a firmware file in .zip format, which for each specific device downloaded on the official website of the manufacturer or on thematic forums, if the user liked the unofficial assembly more.

The firmware is installed via TWRP recovery as follows:

  1. The smartphone reboots with the entrance to TWRP recovery mode. To do this, you need to turn it off, and then start it by holding the volume rocker in the up position and the smartphone's power button. The result of clamping this combination will be the inscription "recovery" on the screen and, as a result, entering the desired menu.

  1. Now you need to reset all data except for SD and OTG. To do this, go to the Wipe - Advanced Wipe sections and check the following items: Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Internal Storage, Cache. The device will be completely cleaned!

Data reset

  1. Then press back, select Reboot recovery and confirm the action (usually you need to stretch the switch across the screen to the right).
  2. The firmware file must first be placed on the device.

It is recommended to place the .zip file on an SD|OTG memory card, because in this case the system information on the device will take up much less space, but not less than 200 megabytes. Similarly, it is worth placing backups created through TWRP .

  1. If a required files are loaded and all the previous steps are completed correctly, then you can click "Install" and confirm the action (also according to the standard, swipe to the right). The firmware procedure may not be displayed on the screen in any way: you just need to wait a long time.

  1. When the firmware via TWRP is completed, you need to select the Wipe cache / dalvik partition, and then Reboot System.

  1. Successful completion of the procedure will lead to the fact that during the first reboot, the three dots under the manufacturer's logo (Xiaomi) will “wink” for about 10 minutes, and then the device will start.

Decryption and troubleshooting TWRP errors

Often, when working with TWRP, users experience various errors. All of them are summarized in the table below and for each error a solution is proposed.

Error codeCauseselimination
error 6The updater-script file in the firmware archive was created in the wrong format.Need to open specified file through the standard "Notepad" or "NotePad ++", change its format to Unix and resave.
error 7The firmware was chosen incorrectly and does not match the device on which the installation should be performed.1. Download correct file firmware from the official site. It is important to check the device version, because, for example, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a Pro modification, which makes the firmware from the first device incompatible with the second.

2. If the firmware is exactly correct, then you need to open the updater-script file in edit mode and delete the first lines in it with the list of devices for which this firmware is intended.

error 0The archive with the firmware is missing one of the files. You need to reload the archive or add the necessary files.
Error 255The file updater-binary is inappropriate.By analogy with the previous paragraph: you need to replace the specified file.

Outcome

After completing the firmware procedure, you can begin to change the settings of your smartphone. It is worth being more careful about the device settings, since most of the problems that lead to the need for firmware arise precisely because of the incorrect operation of the phone.

After setting up the firmware and installing only the most desired programs, we advise you to make a full backup of the firmware, so you can always restore your smartphone.

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid Error 255 keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Mistakes made while editing the registry can render your PC unusable and cause irreparable damage to your operating system. In fact, even a single comma in the wrong place can prevent your computer from booting up!

Because of this risk, we highly recommend using a trusted registry cleaner such as WinThruster [Download] (Developed by Microsoft Gold Certified Partner) to scan and repair any Error 255 related problems. By using the [Download] Registry Cleaner, you can automate the process of looking for broken registry entries, missing file references (such as those causing the %%error_name%% error), and broken links within the registry. Before each scan, an automatically created backup copy, which allows you to undo any changes with a single click and protects you from possible damage to your computer. The best part is that fixing [Download] registry errors can drastically improve system speed and performance.

A warning: Unless you are an advanced PC user, we do NOT recommend manually editing the Windows Registry. Incorrect use of the Registry Editor can lead to serious problems and require reinstalling windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from misuse of Registry Editor can be resolved. You use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

Before manually restoring Windows registry, you need to create a backup by exporting the part of the registry associated with Error 255 (for example, 7-Zip):

  1. Click on the button To begin.
  2. Enter " command" in search bar... DO NOT PRESS YET ENTER!
  3. Holding keys CTRL-Shift on the keyboard, press ENTER.
  4. An access dialog will be displayed.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. The black box opens with a blinking cursor.
  7. Enter " regedit" and press ENTER.
  8. In the Registry Editor, select the Error 255-related key (eg. 7-Zip) you want to back up.
  9. On the menu File select Export.
  10. Listed Save to select the folder where you want to save the 7-Zip key backup.
  11. In field File name enter a name for the backup file, such as "7-Zip Backup".
  12. Make sure the field Export range value selected Selected branch.
  13. Click Save.
  14. The file will be saved with .reg extension.
  15. You now have a backup of your 7-Zip-related registry entry.

The next steps for manually editing the registry will not be covered in this article, as they are likely to damage your system. If you would like more information on editing the registry manually, please see the links below.

If not all users of Android systems, then many of those who install custom (non-original) firmware know that the appearance of an error Installation Aborted with firmware - a fairly common phenomenon. And this is by no means connected with the data being installed, but with the version itself. operating system. Most users run this process without thinking about the possible consequences. And they can be very sad (even if the firmware is not installed, the system may simply “crash”, and after that you will have to restore factory setting with total loss of user data and any other related information).

Installation Aborted error with firmware: what is it in the general sense?

Let's start by clarifying the term itself. What does the situation when a mobile device writes Installation Aborted when flashing through recovery, is, in general, not difficult to understand.

Simply translate the message from in English into Russian. Receive a notification that the installation has been interrupted. But why is this crash happening? Read about this and much more in the article below. In addition, the usual cancellation of the installation is still the worst thing that can be achieved when carrying out such actions. The fact is that Android systems are sensitive enough to any changes, and can only work with selected devices, for which only specific version operating system. Relatively outdated operating systems and devices have practically no support in terms of updating the operating system. Updates only affect built-in services and custom applications, but no more than that. You can only upgrade the operating system to a certain supported level.

Installation Aborted with firmware: what to do?

It is clear that when installing official updates supported by operating Android systems, such failures do not occur. The only situation when the system writes Installation Aborted when installing the firmware is only related to the fact that the user installs the Firmware on his own.

In principle, this is a kind of protective function, similar to the appearance blue screen on Windows systems. Only Android behaves much more modestly.

The main problem is not even in the installation method, but in the fact that this firmware may not corny correspond to the device on which it is installed. And for starters, when canceling the process, simply reboot the mobile device and restore the original system. After that you can start installing new firmware again.

blocking

Sometimes when installing Firmware Installation Aborted also signals that the original update file was placed in the wrong area, which is perceived by the device as a default reserve.

As a rule, in order to avoid an Installation Aborted failure when flashing a smartphone or tablet, the Update.zip file should initially be placed in the root directory of the internal drive (Android). Only then can additional actions be taken.

Operating system update

Another failure option, when the system writes Installation Aborted during firmware, can be interpreted as a mismatch between the current version of the operating system and the one the user is trying to switch to.

This is similar to how stationary computers try to jump from Windows XP to Windows 10. First, for the Android OS itself, you need to install an update that is supported by both the system and the device, and only after that start flashing the device.

One of the most basic conditions for the successful completion of the process, many experts also call the release of space on internal storage. Do not look at the fact that there is enough space on it. The most basic problem is that it has cache data that has not been deleted, which is perceived by the system as real garbage, although it may not signal this.

Thus, one of the options for eliminating the Installation Aborted failure during firmware will be the initial deletion of this type of data. Can be used standard settings, from where you go to the applications section with the selection of the "All" item and the subsequent clearing of the cache of each applet presented in the list.

It is much better (and it makes things easier) if the user has an optimizer app installed on their phone or tablet. Such applets, in general, behave quite correctly. True, cleaning issues sometimes raise legitimate doubts, since the user sees one thing on the application screen, but in reality nothing really happens. Don't believe? Look in any file manager to the DCIM and 100ANDRO directories, which are located directly on the internal drive where the operating system itself is installed.

CMW installation questions

Another point related to the possibility of eliminating the problem of the appearance of the Installation Aborted error during firmware refers to the installation of the CMW module, which is essential for such operations. Installing it will avoid the problems associated with the incompatibility of ROM drives. But to use it, you first need to get the so-called root rights.

In the simplest version, you can use the Kingo Root program, which is initially installed on Personal Computer or laptop. After connecting mobile device the rooting driver will be loaded, and then the mobile applet will be installed on the mobile device (on the computer, confirmation will be issued directly in the program). After that, it will be enough just to launch the appropriate mobile applet to perform further actions.

They consist in installing Rom Manager, and in Recovery mode, using the Setup section, go to the menu ClockworkMod Recovery, find your mobile device model in the presented list and agree to further operations.

Restoring factory firmware

Sometimes this approach does not work, because sometimes the solutions presented can only be used on original firmware. Resetting the settings on your phone or tablet won't really do anything.

Therefore, it is advisable to immediately install the program that best suits your device (Xperia Companion, Samsung Kies etc.), and restore the factory firmware via the Internet with its help. And only after that you can start installing a new firmware, if necessary.

Instead of total

This is the solution to the Installation Aborted error during firmware. What to do, I think, is already clear. In general, by and large, it is worth saying that flashing a mobile device using unsupported Firmware versions is not recommended at all. So after all, you can, as they say, just ruin the device. You can install the firmware only if it is really taken from an official source and is fully compatible with the model of the device that is supposed to be reflashed. AT otherwise don't even try to do anything like that.
