Xiaomi does not install over-the-air update. Update Xiaomi Redmi on MIUI Firmware

Due to the frequency of modern firmware releases from Xiaomi, devices do not always successfully reinstall new firmware. It happens that failures occur in the “stuffing”, leading to the fact that Xiaomi is not updated.

Auto update check

Before you figure it out, in the absence of requests to install modern versions of MIUI, check for auto-update:

1. Follow the path Settings => About phone => Update.

2. In the window that opens, click on the three dots and in the upper right corner of the screen, select the item related to automatic reinstallation.

3. Turn on the Internet, search for the latest software version.

4. Here, check the "Update automatically" checkbox if it is not available.

Did not help? We are trying to figure out the system.

Failure in system settings

By default, Xiaomi is set to reinstall to modern MIUI firmware automatically. But sometimes a mistake can happen. Try updating your device manually:

1. Charge your gadget to 60% or connect it to a charger.

2. Open Settings => About phone => Update.

3. In the menu that opens, click the button.

If the option does not work, you need to download the file for this device model on the official website of the developer and place its archive in the root of the directory. Then we take steps:

1. Go to the gear menu => About phone.

2. We are trying to update.

3. If the device displays a line with no fresh settings, click on the three dots at the top.

4. Select the section "Select firmware file".

5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Important! Built-in not installed software(VPO)? You may be trying to install an older OS.

Availability of custom firmware

Custom malware is not uncommon if a smartphone is purchased in China. Most amateur software does not have auto-update, you will not receive released firmware for the gadget. You will need to unlock the bootloader using Fastboot mode and the Mi Flash app.

When You Don't Need System Improvement

If you have a stable operating system from MIUI and everything works perfectly, you can disable the download of new software and not worry that an update has not arrived on Xiaomi. There is also a risk that native and downloaded installations will compete with each other and cause serious problems in the operation of the device.

It is easy to understand that you have a custom OS refinement. Open Settings, then the top line, look at the number of the malware. If you have more than 4 digits in the number - the operating system is amateur.

When improved software does not come to Xiaomi, you should not immediately panic. As follows from the article, the problem is quickly fixable, and sometimes does not require any action at all.

For the correct operation of each gadget, you need the latest firmware. Updates are coming to the phone that ensure the normal operation of the firmware itself. But it is important that the official version of the firmware is installed, which preserves the warranty for the phone, ensures that there are no various glitches in the system, etc.

This does not mean that the smartphone should be in stasis and not change after purchase. The user regularly installs the applications he needs, and new applications rarely want to run on older versions of the software. That is why users have a natural question: how to update a smartphone to ensure its uninterrupted and high-quality operation?

For example, consider Xiaomi gadgets. These devices are in great demand in the domestic market, despite the fact that they are called something like an iPhone for the poor. But in terms of characteristics, gadgets are not much inferior to iPhones, of course, if we talk about flagships, therefore we see no reason to pay more only for a promoted brand and unnecessary show-offs. The main thing is that the smartphone works, and in order to do this, you need to update it regularly.

On the this moment The current firmware for Xiaomi is MIUI 9. If you do not have this shell yet, you need to switch to it. But there is a peculiarity, since the company releases updates in waves, gradually for each series. Now there is already an update for the Mi series gadgets. In particular, new firmware designed for: Mi6, Mi5S Plus, Mi5S, Mi5C, Mi5, Mi4S, Mi4C, Mi4, Mi3, Mi2/2S, Mi Mix, Mi Max 2, Mi Max, Mi Note 2, Mi Note/Pro, Mi Pad 2, Mi Pad 1, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note, Redmi Pro, Redmi 4X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4 Prime, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 2A, Redmi 2/Prime, Redmi 1S, Redmi 1.

The update in question allows you to make the smartphone better, more modern and more reliable:

  • The update allows you to change appearance interface;
  • Thanks to new version MIUI can add multi-screen mode for more comfortable work;
  • Simultaneously monitor the work of several programs, and not only.

Summarizing all of the above, your Android will noticeably change for the better. But before installing the firmware, check its compatibility with your smartphone. At the moment, the MIUI 9 shell is available for all devices on Android 7.0.

Why update Xiaomi Mi via OTA

Smart smartphones, if necessary, can be updated without the help of their owner thanks to OTA (Over The Air) technology. This is an update that does not need to be connected to a computer. The only thing you need to provide for it is the Internet, working via 3G, EDGE or Wi-Fi.

Surely you have heard of such a method as "over the air update". This is what is meant by updating via OTA. All you need for this method of receiving updates:

  • Get a user account;
  • Synchronize your smartphone with new firmware modules.

In principle, this is all that is needed to establish an uninterrupted receipt of updates, receive notifications that new updates have appeared for your Xiaomi smartphone, and install them immediately.

What is very useful: the data that you entered during synchronization remains in the system. Therefore, it saves a lot of time and effort in finding suitable updates, if they are needed.

How to update Xiaomi using OTA

Updating the firmware on the phone is not the easiest thing for a user who encounters this problem for the first time. Now, with the help of OTA, you can simplify this procedure as much as possible, which will become available even for a child.

No additional components are needed, not even a computer, without which not a single update could have done before. All you need is to make a few clicks and follow the installation of applications. In general, all complexities are removed, such as the correct location of the file or the use of a specific name.

The system will not be updated for long, but the main thing is to provide the following conditions for comfortable work:

  1. It is important that the smartphone is fully charged. The update will not be installed until the charge reaches at least 30%, and for some models the charge should be from 60%. Even better to Charger was connected to the network and was charging even during the installation of the update. If the smartphone turns off in the process, this can cause serious problems that even professionals in the service center cannot always solve.
  2. It is important that the official license is installed on the smartphone. android firmware 6. If you have custom installed or have root rights, then it's better not to change anything unless absolutely necessary.
  3. The next step is to check for updates. To do this, you need to follow the following path: Menu - Settings - About phone - System updates - Check now.
  4. If the system sees that there is an update, it installs it. But for this you need to restart the device.

The process itself takes some time, but if everything is done correctly, the phone will easily turn on and start working with the updated software. This procedure can be done regularly, at least every day, but this is not necessary.

How to flash a smartphone using recovery

If for some reason the smartphone is not updated in the way that we described above, you can go the other way, no less popular, but much more complicated. Here is a diagram of how to do a flashing:

  • loader.
  • Download the new firmware for your phone model and rename it to "update.zip";
  • We send the firmware (it must have the format update.zip) to the root directory ( //sdcard/update.zip). To do this, you need to go along the following path: Mi3 - Internal memory (drop the file here update.zip);
  • Turn off the smartphone, press the power button and volume up;
  • When the screen blinks, release the power key, but hold the volume up button;
  • We go into recovery mode;
  • Choose an item install update.zip to system one;
  • Wait for the process to complete and select reboot to system one.

In general, everything is logically clear. So if there is a need for, like other smartphone manufacturers, they work perfectly according to this scheme.

Xiaomi, to ensure the smooth operation of its smartphones, regularly releases updates to its proprietary MIUI shell, the latest version is MIUI 9. It is intended for mobile devices with Android 4.4 and up.

After that you need:

Since the topic of firmware is quite global and many people want to get instructions specifically for their phone model, I decided to write a universal post in which I will talk about how to install software on Xiaomi smartphone, and at the same time I will share links to the latest firmware versions. This article will be relevant for both existing Xiaomi devices, and newly released.

Here complete list devices for which the manufacturer is currently releasing official international firmware versions:

  • Mi 2/2S;
  • Mi 3;
  • Mi 4;
  • Mi 4i;
  • Mi 5;
  • Mi note;
  • Mi Max 16/32 GB;
  • Redmi 1s;
  • Redmi Note 4G;
  • Redmi Note Prime;

  • Redmi Note 3 Pro;
  • Redmi Note 3 Special Edition;

  • Redmi 2;
  • Redmi 3;
  • Redmi 3s.

Some smartphones were not included in the list because these devices are produced for the Chinese domestic market and the developer does not release official international versions. However, you can install localized software yourself. For a smartphone, there are corresponding instructions, and for other devices, the actions are similar, you just need to download the firmware for a specific device.

Take into account! When changing the firmware version, in order to avoid unstable operation of the smartphone, it is recommended to reset to factory settings. In the future, when updating the software, you will not have to repeat this procedure. Also make sure that the battery is charged more than 60%, ideally it should be 100% in order to be able to revive the smartphone in case of force majeure. As the author of this article, I do not bear any responsibility for your devices. Everything you do, you do at your own peril and risk. However, if something goes wrong, you can contact me and I will try to help you.

Before you can start updating the smartphone software, the MiFlash application must be installed on the computer and required drivers. I described how to do it correctly.

System update

If the official international firmware is already installed on your smartphone and you just want to update it, then there is nothing easier than using the built-in application. Download the firmware file for recovery in zip format to the internal memory of the device in a folder downloaded_rom. Find the program shortcut on the desktop Update (updater) and run it. In the application that opens, in the upper right corner, click on the icon with three dots and select the item Select firmware file (Choose update package).

Next, you need to specify where the archive with the previously downloaded firmware is located and confirm the installation. The smartphone will check the file and the installation will begin, at the end the system will automatically reboot. The process is long, so be patient.

also in this application can be customized automatic check updates and you will always have the latest version of the MIUI firmware installed.

This method should not be used if you are changing the type of firmware, for example, from the version for developers (developer) to stable (stable) or updating from Chinese firmware. For this purpose, you need to use the following methods.

Update in recovery mode

Important. Due to interface differences in Recovery Mode this method not applicable to some Redmi smartphones equipped with MTK processors, and devices with a locked bootloader. Sometimes a software update requires a factory reset, so be careful when agreeing to one or another item.

Download the firmware file for recovery in zip format to the internal memory and rename it to update.zip. This can be done in advance on the computer, and then transfer the archive to the device. It is extremely important that the renamed file is located in the root of the repository, and not in any folder.

Now you need to reboot your smartphone into recovery mode. This can be done in two ways:

  1. In the application Update (updater) in the upper right corner, click on the icon with three dots and select the item ( Reboot to recovery mode).
  2. We turn off the smartphone. We press simultaneously and hold the volume up and power buttons for 3-5 seconds until the Recovery mode appears.

Cursor control in Recovery mode is carried out using the volume rocker, and the power button is used to confirm the command. Thus we choose English language and press Install update.zip to System One to start the update. After successful completion, the smartphone must be restarted by pressing Reboot to System One.

Update in Fastboot mode

On some new devices, you must first unlock the bootloader to use this method. Now this procedure takes 1-2 days and there is nothing complicated in it, the main thing is to follow the instructions.

Turn off your smartphone and put it into Fastboot mode. To do this, you must simultaneously press and hold the volume down and power buttons until a rabbit appears on the screen.

Download and unpack the firmware for fastboot to a folder on a PC that does not contain Cyrillic characters. Run the application MiFlash.exe, in the window that opens, click on the button Browse and specify the folder in which the software was unzipped. Also, do not forget to mark the corresponding update mode in the bottom line: Flash all (all data is deleted), Flash all except starage (data is stored on the internal memory) and Flash all except data and starage (programs and data are saved on the internal memory).

We connect the device to the computer using a microUSB cable and press the button in the application Refresh. If the drivers are installed correctly, then the window should display the com port to which the device is connected.
