Forget wifi password windows 7. View saved wifi passwords in Windows

In this video, we will not talk about hacking an access point, but about how to get the password from an already authorized client computer. But first, let's figure out in what situation we may need it. Personally, I had this need in the following cases:

When you visit friends and need to connect to Wifi, but the person does not know the password, since he entered it once and there was no longer a need to remember it;

Somehow they simply asked to pull out the Wifi password from the laptop;

And also, there was a need to transfer all wireless connections that the user previously worked with to the new operating system. So that after reinstallation, the laptop automatically connects to access points and the user does not have to re-enter passwords.

We will pull out passwords from Windows XP, 7 and 8 operating systems. And here we will have two methods, this is pulling out the password to the network, to which this moment connected, and from networks to which you have previously connected, but are not currently active.

And let's start with Windows 7, since it is in 7, this process most simplified:

Password for the connected network (Network and Sharing Center\Change adapter settings\ wifi adapter connected to the network \ RMB \ Status \ Wireless network properties \ Security \ Display input characters )

Passwords for all profiles of Wifi networks ( Network and Sharing Center \ Manage Wireless Networks, I have one profile, but there may be several, depending on how many networks were connected \ Wireless connection properties \ Security \ Display input characters). Thus, we can find out the password to the network to which we connected at least once with this device and if it has not been changed, then we can also connect to this network.

Again, if you do not have administrator rights, then when you check the box "Display entered characters", you will be asked for an administrator password. If the password is not known, then you can add the current user to the administrators group, I talked about this in one of my past videos.

In Windows 8, the password extraction process is:

For active connection is similar ( Network and Sharing Center\Change adapter settings\ Wifi adapter connected to the network \ RMB \ Status \ Wireless network properties \ Security \ Display entered characters)

However, there is no Wireless Network Management snap-in, and, therefore, we cannot see the profiles of wireless connections that were previously connected to. But this can be done via the command line ( win+R\cmd\netshwlanshowprofiles- all profiles are displayed \ netshwlanshowprofilesname=”sys-team-admin"key=clear- displays information about the required profile, including the security key). This is quite confusing, so we will use special program, but more on that later.

As for Windows XP, the key is not displayed here at all in open form (Start \ Settings \ Network Connections \ Wireless network connection\ RMB \ Properties \ Wireless networks \ Network profile \ Properties \ Links).

And in this situation, the WirelessKeyView program will help us, which pulls out all the data we need from the registry (http://www.nirsoft.net \ Password Tools \ WirelessKeyView \ can be downloaded for a 32 or 64 bit system, as well as a crack). Some antiviruses can count the program for a virus, or rather for a hacker tool, and in fact it is, since it pulls out hidden data, but in any case, it will not harm your system!

After starting the program, all profiles appear wireless networks, as well as the key to access points. In the usual form, the key is not displayed, but this is unique to XP, in any case, you can enter the displayed key, it will also work. This program Works in XP, 7 and 8.

Also, thanks to this program, we can easily and simply transfer connection profiles to another computer, I had this need when I needed to reinstall Windows on a laptop. And so that the user would not notice any changes when working with familiar access points, it was decided to simply transfer the profiles to the new system!

Select the profiles that interest us by holding Ctrl, or select all ( ctrl+A\File\Export Selected Items\wlan \ Save)

Let's try to transfer the profiles to Windows 7, but first we will delete all profiles to check if the transferred profiles will be automatically connected (Disconnect from the access point \ Network and Sharing Center \ Wireless Network Management \ Delete).

Importing saved profiles ( File \ Import keys from export file \wlan \ Open) and as you can see, the adapter has automatically connected to the Wifi network. In general, thanks to this program, we can find out the password, both to the access point, and copy the connection profiles!

I'll show you how to quickly find out the password from your Wi-Fi. There is nothing wrong with the fact that you forgot it. This situation often occurs in ordinary users. Finding a way out of it is very simple, especially if you are connected to Wi-Fi from any device. Even if you do not have access from devices, you can still find out this information.

I'll show you 5 ways to find out:

  1. With Wi-Fi connected.
  2. When disabled.
  3. in the router settings.
  4. With the help of the program.
  5. On an android mobile device.

You won’t be able to find out the password only if you changed and forgot the authorization data in the router settings and you don’t have devices that have connected to your Wi-Fi at least once. In this case, you will have to reconfigure.

All actions require administrator rights.

Find out the password in Windows 7, 8 on a computer

If Wi-Fi is connected

On the right and bottom, in the corner of the desktop, find the icon as in the image below and click on it. Then select your network ( inscription connected). Go to its property in context menu.

By selecting the "Security" tab, enable the display of input icons and the asterisks will be replaced. The network security key string is the password.

If there is no icon, then click on the empty space of the lower right panel right click mouse, then select Customize Notification Icons from the list. Then select "Show icon and notifications" as in the image below.

If Wi-Fi is disabled

This method will work if you have logged into Wi-Fi from the device at least once. The fact is that Windows remembers the Wi-Fi that was logged into. This is done for automatic login so that you do not enter data every time.

To see them go to Start >> Control Panel. Select category view and go to web and internet.

Then go to the network control center.

Then go to Manage Wireless Networks.

All networks that you have logged into will be displayed here. Select the one you need and go to properties in the context menu.

Go to the security tab and check the box "Display input icons" as shown below. This is the Wi-Fi password.

Instead of these actions, you can use the program. More on that below.

Find out the password using the program

most popular and handy program for that, it's WirelessKeyView. Download it from the official site and. Installation is not required. Just run the downloaded file.

The antivirus can detect the threat. This is because the program gets access to the passwords. So turn it off for a while.

After launch, a window will appear in which the password will be displayed ( in the right column).

If the methods above do not suit you, then there is a universal solution. View the password in the router interface.

Find out the password through the router

Go to settings.

If Wi-Fi is not connected, then connect the router to the computer via network cable, it is almost always present in the kit.

To do this, enter the IP address in the browser line. It can be viewed on the box itself, usually located at the bottom. I will show an example on D-link.

  1. Login: admin
  2. Password: admin

If during the initial setup these data were changed and you don’t remember them, then only resetting the settings will help in this case.

Then go to Wi-Fi >> Security. Here you will see the PSK encryption key. This is your Wi-Fi password. It may be different for you, as everyone's devices are different, but the steps are similar. Look for similar items.

Find password on android mobile devices

This method is suitable for both phones and tablets. The main condition is to be logged into Wi-Fi at least once.

Requires superuser rights ( root). Nothing without this.

If you have them, then follow these steps:

  1. Can be downloaded special application, which will show the password ( e.g. WiFi Key Recovery). Do it and run it.
  2. Can be viewed through file manager (e.g. total commander). Open it up and follow the path /data/misc/wifi and in that folder find the file wpa_supplicant.conf. open it text editor (e.g. QuickEdit) and there find the line with the value psk. This is the network password.

If something doesn't work, ask a question in the comments.

How did you find out your Wi-Fi password?

Poll Options are limited because JavaScript is disabled in your browser.

Usually, this question occurs after you tried to log in to another PC over the network, but received a login / password request. The situation is solved simply and quickly, the main thing is to learn a few elementary commands.

Where does windows store network passwords?

You can manage passwords in this OS using the "netplwiz" command. To start its execution, go to the "Start" menu and enter "Run" in the search bar, or press R + Win-key. The described method is relevant for windows 7, in windows XP you should use the "control userpasswords2" command. When the corresponding window with accounts opens, go to the "Advanced" menu and select the "Management" sub-item. This tab is intended for any manipulations with passwords, user accounts, security settings and other actions. Naturally, all operations must be carried out from an account with administrator rights. So you can easily change any password to a more suitable one. The physical storage for network passwords is the %systemroot%\system32\config directory.

Request for a non-existent password

It often happens that computers controlled by different versions windows, it is difficult to network or connect to them from the outside. For example, Win 7 may ask windows XP for a network password that has not been assigned at all (or will not accept an existing passcode). How to fix this problem? On all machines, the following conditions must be met: users must be allowed access over the network by assigning a non-empty password to each; login-pass for authorization is the same on the “client” machine and on the server. If the connection is still not established, go to "Computer Configuration" (Win + R, enter gpedit.msc) -> select " windows configuration”, then “Security settings”, inside the item “ Local Policies”, again “Security Settings”, sub-item “Network Security: Lan Manager Check”, enable the line “Send LM and NTLM”. Also check the correctness following settings:

  • in the “Control Panel”, item “All items” -> “Network and Sharing Center”, sub-item “Advanced settings”, disable “Access with password protection”;
  • default network model for Win 7 should be "Workgroup" (default);
  • the guest account is enabled; in the local policy, it is also removed from the “Deny access to a PC from the network” item.

If you found out\changed the password and did everything as indicated in the article, but still did not get access to the machine over the network, you need to study in detail the settings of local access policies on each specific computer.

Entering the network password: where can I get it? Technique of definition and shutdown.

Quite often (especially in small offices with installed local networks), one can observe a picture when it seems that all machines connected to local network, works fine, but when accessing a certain terminal, a network password is required. Where to get it? The system administrator, according to most users. No matter how! And if the administrator did not set any passwords in the system at all? What to do then? The answers to these questions are known not only to ordinary users, but even to some beginners. system administrators. But there is nothing particularly complicated here.

Entering the windows 7 network password: why is it needed?

Of course, no one argues that in offices, if there are enough a large number computers connected to the local network, the use of access passwords, both at the level of direct input and at the level remote access, justified.

But often, even if the windows 7 operating system is installed on all terminals, they seem to “see” each other on the network, but when, for example, an attempt is made to send a document to print using network printer, even with the correct settings, nothing happens, because the network password is required. Where to get it? The network administrator is not aware. In fact, there is a solution to this problem, and it is quite simple.

How to find out the network password? View data

The password data itself is hidden from the eyes of a user of any level (whether he is at least a private user, even an admin, the system still does not allow him to see the hidden data).

However, there is a way out. If we take into account that all folders, including registration data, are invisible, you just need to enable the display mode of such objects in the same "Explorer". But in this case, finding the password folder will be quite difficult.

In fact, everything is much simpler, and you don’t need to spend effort on entering a network password. Where can I get it and find the parameter we are interested in? Elementary! You just need to use the command rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr in command line running as admin.

How to disable network passwords or change them?

In the initial version, we call the “Run” section from the standard “Start” menu or using the Win + R combination.

Then, in the most called console, we write the command Controluserpasswords2 and press the enter key. In the menu that appears, uncheck the password requirement for selected accounts (does not work on windows 10!).

The same actions can be performed from the "Control Panel", where you need to access the Network and Sharing Center section, and in the current (general) profile, check the box for using password-protected sharing.

Security policy settings

In the best case, when you need to enter a network password (where to get it, what to enter, enable or disable the service), you can use another fairly effective tool - editing group policies with setting access permissions to certain system functions at the administrator level or local user.

For access, the gpedit.msc command is used, and in the editor itself, the computer configuration section, where you need to find the “LAN Manager” network security check directory and activate the LM and NTLM sending parameters in it.

Outcome

Actually, that's all. If there is a problem with the network password, it should simply be disabled. If necessary, on windows 7 and below, you can install a new combination. But this will have to be done on all machines synchronized over the network, and on the condition that the seventh modification of the system is installed on all of them.

It goes without saying that in the settings of the Group Policy Editor, you can change and apply some additional settings, which can be attributed to a specific group or class of users working on the same terminal.

Quick entry of windows 7 network password

Entering a network password does not act as a mandatory means of protecting your computer. But using it will ensure your network security. In order to open access to your personal network, an attacker only needs to know your username.

How to enter a network password?

If you try to connect over the network from a computer to windows platform 7, the system will ask you to enter the network password. The windows 7 operating system will allow input if a number of the following conditions are met:

  • Classic network access model setting;
  • Authorization under the same credentials;
  • The client computer is authorized in the system under an account that does not exist on the server computer.

Today, when the development of technology does not stand still, the use of a flash card for data transfer is not relevant and outdated. Transferring information from one computer to another, today, is as easy as downloading information from the Internet.

Wired and wireless networks allow us to widely use all the possibilities of data exchange between computers. But, the use of such opportunities require, in turn, certain knowledge. Currently, often computers are sold already with the Windows 7 operating system preinstalled, however, the connection is mainly carried out through Windows XP.

On the initial stage settings, it is recommended to use a passwordless connection scheme. Setting up a connection is quite simple - specific, special knowledge is not required here. If you need to create a home network, change the settings in the control panel. You just need to sequentially go to the following directories:

  • First, go to the "Network and Internet" position;
  • Find the folder "Choose homegroup settings";
  • Finally, select either Enable Password Protected Sharing or Disable Password Protected Sharing.

Then, make the setting working group for all computers. If windows 7 is installed on all computers, then this setting will be carried out automatically. If you have a computer on windows XP on your network, then you will be denied access.

In windows XP, shared folders contain symbolic names, and in order to create a shared folder, you have to follow a few more steps. You can do this by clicking the "Open" button. general access to this folder" in the folder options in the "Share" menu.

But this fact does not mean at all that you will be able to use the connection at a high quality level. In this situation, you should not bother yourself with special wisdom. You just need to remove some "barriers", which are set out in instructions specifically designed for this.

To perform the correct operation, it will be enough to create shared folder in the direct directory of the disk with the installed software. After that, all connection problems will evaporate! And you will be able to enter the network password in windows 7.

How to remove network password request?

If you want to remove the network password request, you just need to do the following:

  • Open the "Start" menu;
  • In the line "Run" enter "Controluserpasswords2" and click "OK";
  • Select the desired account and uncheck the box " Require username and password".

windows 7 allows you to disable the network password by changing group policy computer security. However, it must be understood that negative consequences from such actions are possible. Performing these operations can significantly reduce the security level of your computer.

How to reset or change the password for a network share

When connecting to closed (password-protected) network resources login and password are requested. In order not to enter the password all the time, the user checks the "Remember credentials" checkbox. To remove these passwords (for example, when changing users), you need to go:

Start → Control Panel → User Accounts → Administrative Tools accounts

You can also get here through "Start → Run", enter the text "control userpasswords2" and click OK.

Note: "Start → Run" can be called up with the hotkeys System + R (where System is the button with the windows logo).

Any password can be "Change" or "Remove from storage".

"Change" password is sometimes required to change user account.

For example: earlier a manager used the computer, and he had the rights to change documents in the "Managers" folder of resource N, and now an accountant sat down at the computer, who does not have the right to use documents in the "Managers" folder, but must have full access to the "Accounting" folder of resource N.

If you "Delete from storage" passwords, then the next time you try to get to this resource, the login and password will be requested again.

If you need to make sure that the computer does not remember passwords, then you need to go:

Start → Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Local Security Policy → Local Policies → Security Options → Network access: Do not allow storage of passwords or credentials for network check Authentication → Properties → Disable/Enable

Solution from Microsoft to reset passwords.

1. Log in to the system administrator. 2. Click Start → Run (System + R), enter regedit or regedt32, click OK. 3. In the editor, select the HKEY_USERS branch, but do not enter it. 4. In the editor menu, select File → Load hive (File → Load Hive). 5. A file selection dialog will open. Select Ntuser.dat at the root of the problem user's profile (Documents and Settings\User\NTUSER.DAT). After selecting the file, you will need to give the NAME of the registry branch to be loaded. 6. In the registry editor, go to HKEY_USERS\NAME\User. 7. Remove the keys. 8. Select the branch HKEY_USERS \ NAME and press File → Unload hive (File → Unload Hive).

9. Exit the registry editor.
