The hard disk partition has become raw. Fixing the RAW File System on an SD Card

RAW problem
No one modern computer cannot function without disk, data storage. Sometimes an unexpected failure can occur in it, which will lead to a logical partition error and make it file system RAW system, which is unreadable in Windows and therefore you lose access to all data on the media. The only way to recover such a drive is to perform a full RAW patch format to FAT32, NTFS, or another system that the operating system can interact with. But what about the data, which in no case can not be lost?

Starus Partition Recovery will help solve the issue of data recovery. This software, is provided not only to provide the user with the opportunity to recover lost data, but is also able to easily restore the logical partition of any disk - HDD, SSD, SD card, etc.

Symptoms of a RAW disk or partition

In the event that the following symptoms of a problem occur while working with your computer, you can be sure that these messages come straight from hard drive who needs urgent help.

  • Invalid media type reading drive - when trying to format the drive using command line.

  • Windows may prompt you to format the drive, saying “Your drive is not formatted. Do you want to format now?”.
  • The filenames on the media contain "strange" characters.
  • "Sectors not found" message.

If, after reading the above symptoms of a partition/disk logical error, you have no doubts about the cause of their occurrence, use the effective media recovery solutions below.

Step 1. Recovering data from a hard disk partition with the RAW file system.

Starus Partition Recovery is the optimal solution for recovering information from any type of disk. The program is compatible with all Windows versions, including Windows 7, which allows a large number users to easily recover lost data from their drives.

1. Run Starus Partition Recovery and select the disk partition where the important information, or the drive itself, and left-click on it to launch the Analysis Wizard.
Select a scan mode based on your needs. Quick Scan is useful for lightning-fast analysis of a section, but we should not forget that it will not be as deep as Full Analysis.

2. Upon completion of the scan, you can preview the lost data and restore them by highlighting the necessary files by clicking on any of them right click mouse and clicking Restore to save the information to any other safe place on your PC.

Open My Computer, right-click on the RAW drive and select Format from the menu that appears.

Once formatting is complete, your drive will be usable again.

Hello admin, question! RAW flash drive file system, how to fix?

I took a flash drive to work yesterday, connected it to various computers, copied information back and forth, worked with a flash drive in short, and today I connected it to my laptop and this warning popped up: “To use a drive in drive F:, first format it. Do you want to format it?"

I understand that if you click on the Format disk button, you can finally say goodbye to your data on the flash drive, which is very important to me. What can be done to recover files on a RAW flash drive?

RAW flash drive file system

Hello friends! If you do not need the data on the flash drive, then you can simply . If data is needed, then read on.

When file system on your USB flash drive suddenly turned into RAW, then this means that the file system on the flash drive is seriously damaged. This problem occurs for various reasons: system failures, work malware etc. In this case, when you connect the flash drive to the computer, you will receive a warning that the flash drive needs to be formatted into a normal file system: NTFS or FAT32.

In explorer flash drive RAW will be displayed like this

and in Disk Management

If you format a RAW flash drive, you will lose all your files on it, therefore, to save your data, you need to resort to special program recovery, such as DMDE. After restoring files, the flash drive can be formatted and returned to work.

Note: First of all, try to fix file system errors using the built-in Windows Utilities chkdsk (sometimes it helps). Run the command prompt as an administrator and enter the command: chkdsk f: / f , where the first F: is the drive letter of the flash drive (in your case it may be a different letter), and the second / F is special parameter fixing file system errors when scanning. If chkdsk fails, it will throw an error FROMhkdsk is not valid for RAW disks, in this case, you can use the DMDE program and the like.

Program DMDE is relatively free, that is, it has advanced features that you need to pay to unlock, I want to say that to restore files on one flash drive, the free features of the program are enough for the eyes and you don’t have to buy anything, but on the other hand, ifIf you like DMDE, it costs only 300 rubles.

So let's download DMDE official site

http://dmde.ru/download.html

We launch executable file dmde.exe.

The program works without installation, which is very convenient.

We accept the license agreement.

In the left part of the window, check the item Physical devices , and in the right our flash drive.

We double-click the left mouse on the flash drive.

There is an instant scan of the contents of the flash drive.

We go to the folder "Found".

"All Found + Reconstruction".

"Rescan the entire volume".

A detailed scan of the flash drive begins using the program's own algorithms for deleted files.

In the next window, DMDE opens found folders with files.

Do not expect that the found folders and files will have the names you are used to when restoring. The names of the found folders and the files they contain will be generated.

You can enter any folder and restore the files you need.

For example, I found all the photos I needed in these folders.

Double-click the left mouse on the selected folder and go into it.

We mark all the found files with checkmarks and right-click.

Select Restore Files.

Many users encountered a problem when, without any prerequisites, the hard drive stopped showing up as a local one and gave a message that it was not formatted and was working as a RAW file system. In a panic, people formatted the media, losing important data. If you encounter the same error, you do not need to agree to the Windows offer and format the drive. It can be restored.

Why does the RAW file system appear?

In theory, the RAW file system is initially installed on the hard drive and indicates that it is not marked up, that is, clean. After installing it in the system unit and formatting, it is suitable for installation operating system or data storage. However, even formatted discs may be detected as RAW. The reason for this may be the following factors:

  • Abrupt power off (power surges, emergency shutdown from the outlet).
  • If the USB cable was disconnected during data copying or the SATA connector came off.
  • If this external drive, then such an error can occur when the device is unsafely removed, that is, without using the system tray options.
  • Connecting to a TV that formats the device to fit its format.
  • Virus damage.
  • Physical failure of the hard drive.

In the case when the reason for converting a disc to the RAW file system was a power outage, improper removal of the device, or an emergency shutdown, the data can be successfully restored. IN otherwise, it is possible to repair the disk, only without saving the information.

Method number 1. Disk recovery without saving data. Windows is loading

Most fast way to return the system to working capacity, it is to agree with the proposal of Windows and format the disk.

It is safer to format a drive through the Disk Control Panel. To do this, do the following:

  • Click "Start", "Control Panel", "System and Security", "Administrative Tools" and select "Create and format partitions hard drives».
  • A new window will open. Select the drive that displays the RAW file system. Right-click on it and select "Format".

  • Select a format and click OK. After formatting, the disk will be ready to use.

Method number 2. If the RAW system did not appear on the C drive

If drive D began to appear as a RAW file system and you need to recover lost data, you should check it for errors. To do this, do the following:

  • We go into disk management and look at the drive letter, which is displayed as RAW.
  • Open a command prompt with Administrator rights and enter "chkdsk D: / f", where "D" is a drive with the RAW file system.

  • Often, after correcting errors, the disk returns to its former NTFS file system.

Method number 3. Windows won't boot. Local disk C became RAW

If the operating system does not boot, you need to remove the hard drive from system block or laptop, connect it to a working computer and check for errors via the command line. If it helps, the disk will be repaired.

If you have an installation disk with the version and bit depth of your OS, you should run System Restore.

Enter the command "chkdsk D: / f", where we indicate the drive letter.

You can view the drive letter using notepad. At the command prompt, type "notepad". Next "File", "Open". Explorer will appear, in which you can see the drive letter.

After checking and correcting errors, the old disk format can be restored.

Sometimes the file system of our drives can be damaged for certain reasons and become unreadable inside the operating system. Windows systems, it becomes RAW format. Windows will not be able to open the contents of the device and will prompt you to format the card. Otherwise, if you do not confirm this offer, the system will notify you of an error every time you try to view any file.

Many users may panic if they experience this problem, but do not get upset ahead of time. Below we present simple instructions, following which you will quickly restore not only your drive, but also all valuable data. These methods can be useful for both the SD card and any other drive.

Using CMD to Fix a RAW File System
without the need for formatting

The classic way to restore a drive in case of any logical damage, including RAW, is to fix a problem on it using the utility chkdsk through command cmd line. Being free Windows tool to repair disk partitions, chkdsk becomes the first way to resolve the issue with a faulty device.

Upon completion of the above two steps, CMD will fix the error on your SD card, if you're lucky, saving all the data on it. Unfortunately, from time to time during the first recovery method, you may receive an error message “RAW File System” or “CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives”. How to deal with such an error, we wrote in this article.

Hello.

This is how you work with a hard drive, work, and then suddenly turn on the computer - and you see a “butter” picture: the drive is not formatted, the RAW file system, no files are visible and nothing can be copied from it. What to do in such a case By the way, there are a lot of questions of this kind, and the topic of this article was born)?

Well, firstly, do not panic and do not rush, and do not agree with the proposals of Windows (unless, of course, you do not know 100% what these or those operations mean). It's better to turn off the PC for now (if you have an external hard drive, disconnect it from the computer, laptop).

Reasons for the RAW file system

The RAW file system means that the disk is not marked (that is, "raw", if translated literally), it does not have a file system set on it. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but the most common are:

  • abrupt power off while the computer is running (for example, turn off the light, then turn it on - the computer restarts, and then you see on RAW disk and a suggestion to format it);
  • if we are talking about an external hard drive, then this often happens to them when, when copying information to them, it turns off USB cable(recommended: always before disconnecting the cable, in the tray (next to the clock), press the button to safely disconnect the disk);
  • when not working correctly with programs for changing hard disk partitions, formatting them, etc.;
  • also very often many users connect their external hard disk to the TV - it formats them into its own format, and then the PC cannot read it, showing the RAW system (to read such a disk, it is better to use special utilities that can read the file system of the disk into which the TV / TV set-top box formatted it) ;
  • when a PC is infected with virus applications;
  • in case of a “physical” malfunction of the piece of iron (it is unlikely that something can be done on its own to “save” the data) ...

If the reason for the appearance of the RAW file system is an improper disconnection of the disk (or a power outage, an improper shutdown of the PC), then in most cases, the data can be safely restored. In other cases, the chances are lower, but they are also there :).

Case 1: Windows is loading, data on the disk is not needed, if only to quickly restore the drive to working capacity

The easiest and fastest way to get rid of RAW is to simply produce hard formatting disk to another file system (exactly what Windows offers us).

Attention! During formatting, all information from the hard disk will be deleted. Be careful and if you have required files on disk - resorting to this method is not recommended.

It is best to format the disk from the system disk management(not always and not all disks are visible in “my computer”, besides, in disk management you will immediately see the entire structure of all disks).

To open it, just go to panel Windows controls , then open the section "", then in the subsection " Administration» open link « Creating and formatting hard drive partitions» (as in Fig. 1).

Rice. 1. System and security (Windows 10).

Next, select the disk on which the RAW file system is on and format it (you just need to right-click on the desired partition of the disk, then select the “Format“ option from the menu, see Fig. 2).

Rice. 2. Formatting the disk in ex. disks.

After formatting, the disk will be like “new” (without files) - now you can write everything you need to it (well, don’t turn it off abruptly from electricity :)).

Case 2: Windows boots up (RAW file system is not on the Windows drive)

If you need files on the disk, then formatting the disk is highly discouraged! First you need to try to check the disk for errors and fix them - in most cases, the disk starts working normally. Let's take a look at the steps.

1) First go to disk management (Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools/Create and format hard drive partitions ), see above in the article.

2) Remember the drive letter on which you have the RAW file system.

3) Run command line on behalf of the administrator. In Windows 10, this is done simply: right-click on the start menu, and in the pop-up menu select " Command Prompt (Admin)«.

5) After the command is entered, checking and correcting errors, if any, should begin. Quite often at the end Windows checks you will be informed that the errors have been resolved and no further action is required. This means that you can start working with the disk, the RAW file system in this case changes to your previous one (usually FAT 32 or NTFS).

Rice. 4. There are no errors (or they have been fixed) - everything is in order.

Case 3: Windows won't boot (RAW on Windows disc)

1) What to do if not installation disk(flash drives) with Windows…

In this case, there is a simple way out: remove the hard drive from the computer (laptop) and insert it into another computer. Then, on another computer, check it for errors (see above in the article) and if they are fixed, use it further.

You can also resort to another option: take from someone boot disk and produce Windows installation to another disk, and then after booting from it, check the one that is marked as RAW.

2) If the installation disk is ...

Everything is much easier :). First, we boot from it, and instead of installing, we select system restore (this link is always in the lower left corner of the window at the beginning of the installation, see Fig. 5).

Next, in the recovery menu, find command line and run it. In it we need to run hard check drive where Windows is installed. How to do this, because the letters have changed, because we booted from a flash drive (installation disk)?

1. Quite simply: first, launch notepad from the command line (command notepad and look in it which drives and with which letters. Remember the drive letter on which you have Windows installed).

2. Then close notepad and run the check in the already known way: chkdsk d: / f (and ENTER).

By the way, usually the drive letter is shifted by 1: i.e. if system disk"C:" - then when booting from the installation disk, it becomes the letter "D:". But this is not always the case, there are exceptions!

If the above methods did not help, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with TestDisk. Quite often helps in solving problems with hard drives.

If you need to extract deleted data from a hard drive (or flash drive), I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the list of the most famous data recovery programs: ( make sure you pick something).

Good luck!
