Rambler mail (login, settings, work with inboxes) and its place among other free email services. Rambler mail - Enter the mailbox Rambler contacts

Media Portal Rambler.ru is very popular both in Russia and in other CIS countries. Due to the fact that all kinds of sections and services are combined here on one page, using Rambler is absolutely easy and quite accessible even to people who are not knowledgeable in the world computer technology and IT industries. Today we will talk about such a simple procedure as Rambler mail setup, namely, how to create on the service mailbox how to work with it, how to compose and reply to e-mails, etc.

The Rambler portal is located at rambler.ru. Here you can find news and the latest events in the field of finance, real estate or travel. In addition, on Rambler, you can watch thematic videos in a streaming service, a horoscope, a weather forecast, online radio, a TV program, a TOP-100 web resource catalog where you can find the best sites on any subject, and a lot of other things. All this is available directly on the portal's home page. But we will only touch on work with mail, since each section of the portal requires special attention and time.

To enter the mail service, go to homepage Rambler and click the Mail menu button, or navigate to this link.

Before us appears the login form in the mail Rambler service. Right here, by entering the appropriate values for the mailbox name and password, you can enter the mail and start working with it right there. If you do not have a mailbox, we suggest registering first.

Registration on Rambler

On the login form, click the "Register" button below. This will start the process of creating a new rambler mailbox on the service.

You can access any of Rambler's services either through an account of any social network (VK, Facebook, Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru, Google, Twitter, etc.), or through an account of Rambler itself. When you enter the service through a social network account, you thereby link the social network login to the Rambler&Co service. The login procedure is a little faster, but there are doubts about the security of this procedure. After all, the Rambler login data will be stored on the social network server, and if the authentication means fall into third-party hands, the security of the Rambler login data will also be a big question. Therefore, in the old fashioned way, we will resort to the method of creating a regular Rambler & Co account, indicating the username and password to enter the mail. By the way, after completing the registration procedure, using the same credentials, you can easily access any other Rambler service, which is very convenient, as it will save you from having to register multiple times. So let's register. To do this, you need to enter the required data in the appropriate fields, namely: first name, last name, login, preferred domain, password, date of birth, gender and mobile phone. You will have to enter the correct phone number, because during registration, an SMS message with confirmation of registration is sent to the specified number.

When a valid phone number is entered, click the "Send code" button on the right and wait for an SMS with a password.

The message will include a confirmation number.

Enter it in the "Confirmation code from SMS" field and click the "Register" button.

If everything is done correctly, a small green text field appears on the screen with the inscription: “User registered”, after which you will immediately be taken to your personal profile page.

Now you can go to the mailbox and work with e-mail. By the way, after registration, your first e-mail with confirmation of registration should come to your e-mail. You can read it directly on the server. Open the mailbox by clicking on the "Mail" button in the top menu, or by selecting the "Mail" button on the left side of the workspace.

We get to the Rambler Mail server. By default, the Inbox opens. As you can see, there is one unread letter in it. Open it by selecting a message from the list.

The message opens literally instantly. Let's get acquainted with its content. The initial Rambler mail setup is now complete.

How to write a new letter in Rambler mail?

So, let's start working with the service itself. The first question that the vast majority of users have is how to create a new letter? The answer is simple - the "Write" button in the upper left corner of the main form of the Rambler mail service is used for this. We click on it.

Before us appears a standard form for creating a new email message. In the "To" field, enter the name of the email address of the recipient of the letter. In the "Subject" field, set the context of the message, i.e. subject to which our letter is devoted. Finally, in the central text block we enter the body of the letter, we write the very essence of our message.

How to add an attachment to a letter?

As we all know, attachments can be added to emails: pictures, videos, music, and any other interactive content. To make an attachment, click the "Attach File" button below the "Subject" field.

After that, you just need to specify the path to the attached file and click the "Open" button, which will serve as confirmation of your choice.

After completing all the specified steps to set up Rambler mail, the attachment will be added.

To delete an attachment, click the Delete button to the right of the attachment's name.

How to write a letter in Rambler mail?

For formatting messages in Rambler, there is a whole panel with which you can change the font, set its size, highlight a fragment in italics or bold, make alignment or add a numbered / unnumbered list or smiley. It is worth saying that such panels are present in all mail services without exception, but in Rambler it is especially convenient and practical.

All actions performed using the design panel are intuitive and incredibly simple. With it, you can add elegance and creativity to your writing.

How to reply to a letter?

If you received email, there is a logical desire to write a response (unless the letter was sent by one of the robots, and such a letter does not require a response). Replying to a message is easy. We scroll with the mouse to the very bottom of the message, and find the "Reply" button under the body of the letter. If you have received an email from a group of respondents, you can reply to them all at once by selecting the "Reply to all" option.

Click on one of these buttons.

A subform appears asking you to enter the content of your response. When the response letter is written, click the graphic button "Send" with an arrow located at the top.

Nearby is the "Send to all" button. If there is only one recipient, it is inactive. If you previously selected the Reply All option, you can use that as an alternative.

How to forward a letter to another recipient (forward)?

How to change the password on the Rambler mailbox?

Sometimes it becomes necessary to change the account password to a more suitable one. This may be your own decision if you become concerned about the security of your work information, or you find out that your account has been hacked and correspondence has fallen into third-party hands. The developers themselves strongly recommend making passwords strong, including service characters in them, and their length must be 12-16 characters, at least. We subscribe to these recommendations. But let's say the mailbox isn't hacked and you just want to change your password ahead of time to prevent potential hacks in the future. How to do it?

We enter our account, as usual by entering the name of the Rambler account and the password to it.

If the login was successful, go to the settings of your account, and select the "Password" item.

To the right of it is the "Change" button - we will use it.

A standard form for changing the password opens. Here we are prompted to enter a valid password, come up with a new one and confirm it, as well as enter characters from the graphic key (captcha). Let's heed this advice. When everything is ready, click the "Save" button.

This completes the Rambler mail setup, and you can again work with the mail service in normal mode.

How to change your password if you cannot access your Rambler mailbox?

Sometimes, as a result of a hacked mail account, it is not possible to access your mailbox. This can also happen if you simply forgot your password and cannot remember it. How then to be? Let's use the password recovery procedure.

We go to the mailbox login form, write its name in the appropriate field, select the desired domain, and click the "Remember password" button below.

We get to the recovery form. As a first step, we will enter the exact name of the mailbox and the security graphic key. Click "Next".

On the next form, enter your current phone number and a new invented password. When everything is ready, click the "Send Code" button.

After a few seconds, a confirmation code for the operation you have chosen should come to your phone. Paste it from SMS into the appropriate field and click the "Save" button.

Now everything is ready - the password has been changed.

Now a few words about the client settings (where without them). Although the number of Rambler mail settings is not striking in its variety and range, at worst the parameters should be enough to make working with the client more pleasant and relaxed. All settings are hidden behind the gear button in the lower right corner of the folder selection panel.

On the main tab, you can set a personalized name for correspondence sent from Rambler. If you use an alias, you can enter it here and the recipient will see your alias in the "From" field. You can also specify another mailbox to which you want to receive replies to outgoing messages. This can be not only a mailbox on Rambler, but also on Gmail, Yandex Mail, Outlook, or any other mail server. Read below to learn how to attach mailboxes of other services to Rambler.

You can also specify a message in the signature field, which will be automatically displayed at the end of each letter if you want to finish the text concisely and respectfully.

A little lower you can activate or deactivate hotkeys (you can find a set of prepared hotkeys here). A proven fact: if you get used to working with the keyboard, then all operations will be performed much faster and more accurately. Therefore, if you work with mail a lot, hotkeys will come in handy.

In the right part of the first tab, you can change the color canvas of the client to a more preferable one. There are about a dozen different coloring pages to choose from for every taste: from pastel colors to azure and marble.

Here you can also see how much mailbox space is being used and how much space is still free. By the way, the maximum size of the Rambler box is 2 GB. Before the change in the client interface in 2012, the size of the box could be increased manually, but with the rebranding, this option disappeared, and the maximum size of the box began to strictly correspond to 2 gigs. Now, if the volume of your correspondence is approaching the maximum, you should worry about the timely cleaning of the mailbox in advance, otherwise the mail will simply stop coming.

On the next tab "Folders" you can manage directories, both present in the client by default, and new ones added manually. If the folders already present in the system are not enough for you, it is quite possible to add a few more just on this tab.

The next tab is responsible for adding other mailboxes to the service. In fact. you can connect a mailbox of any other service to Rambler. All you need to know is the IMAP/POP3 address of the server to receive mail, as well as the port number for it (in other words, the gateway). You can get this information on the support page of the service you want to use, you will have to dig a little in the reference manual.

The next section of settings is filter tuning. Thanks to its flexibility and ease of use, you can easily mark selected categories of emails as spam, mark them as read, or delete them altogether. So that the box does not turn out to be crowded, it is worth playing around with the filter settings a little, and you will save yourself a headache later. Very user-friendly interface and the filtering mechanism itself.

Another section is associated with setting up an autoresponder. If you're going on vacation or want to take a day off from work, compose an auto-sent email with a given subject and content. This will not mislead your manager about your absence and will help maintain working relationships and good relationships with colleagues.

The next option, located in the Mail Programs category, gives you access to the Rambler service for other mail applications (The Bat!, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.). All are listed here necessary settings, which must be specified in a third-party mail client to access mail on Rambler. If you would like to use one of third party applications to access emails, check the "I want to access" box at the top.

The last section of settings will allow you to enable sound notifications for the most common actions in the application, namely receiving a new email, sending it, and crashing. The sounds are all standard, you can not change them. You can only disable or enable each individual alert on an individual basis, which essentially makes our already meager choices quite minimalistic.

The address book

It's time to talk a little about the "Contacts" feature. Rambler has an address book where you can add your recipients so that you always have at hand a database of addresses that you often contact. To access contacts, click on the icon with a little man to the right of the button for writing a new letter.

Here are collected all the email addresses with which you corresponded in Rambler. Contacts that took place, but which you did not manually enter into the address book, fall into the "Automatic" section. The rest of the recipients are listed in the "Your contacts" category. To add a contact to the list, click the New Contact button.

You can also import addresses from several postal services into the Rambler address book: Yandex, Mail.ru and Qip.ru. This minimizes the time spent manually adding addresses.

Spam filtering

The Rambler client has a built-in anti-spam function. Although it does not work very efficiently, nevertheless, the developers periodically pull up new addresses to the blacklist database, which helps the service to filter. Also, if you yourself want to mark one of the letters as spam, you can easily move it to the appropriate folder using the top menu.

In addition, you can mark a message as unclaimed and not moved, as a result of which the sender's address will be added to the list of spammers after verification.

To sort messages according to a given criterion, you need to click on the column heading and select the sort order: ascending or descending. The sorting mechanism is quite flexible, and allows you to easily handle a large amount of correspondence without any difficulties.

Rambler-mail - mobile version

Official app page in the store Google Playlink.

Official app page in the store app storelink.

In fact, mobile program completely repeats the capabilities and functions of its PC counterpart. Registration is available here, and entry through any of the social networks presented, and many other bright and necessary features. True, the interface is a bit poor. It would be possible to give it more liveliness and bright colors, but this is already up to your taste. Perhaps conservatism and a strictly business approach are valued by developers more than style and a sense of novelty.

Install the program like any other mobile app(it is practically called “Mail rambler.ru”)

Entering the mail is simple and fast, by entering your login and password in the fields specially designed for this, and pressing the "Login" button.

As a result of the manipulations done, we get into the Inbox folder. All messages we have received are displayed here. In the upper right corner there is a search button, which will certainly come in handy if you need to find something by contextual query.

To go to another folder, click on the button with three horizontal lines in the left top row header.

Folder navigation is easy and completely intuitive.

To write a new letter in the mobile version of Rambler mail, click on the round blue pencil icon in the lower right part of the display.

Then everything is as usual: enter the recipient's address, indicate in the "Copy" field the possible addressee you want to add to the list of recipients, come up with a subject and compose the text of the letter itself. By the way, in the "To" field, you can pull up the addressee from the contact list of your phone using the "plus" button - a very convenient and relevant feature. Then we can attach attachments or send a letter in finished form by pressing a button specially designed for this.

It is not difficult to understand all the abilities of the mobile version of Rambler-mail - they are all visible at a glance. The interface in the program is very simple and unpretentious.

That's all we wanted to tell you about such an interesting topic as setting up Rambler mail. A little later we will publish detailed instructions on how to work with Yandex mail. The possibilities there are very similar, but there are also some nuances.

Entering the Rambler mail opens up the possibility of sending and receiving letters, and other service settings. Rambler is a fairly large service that, in addition to a convenient mailbox, provides its users with a wide range of related services. Previously, it was the most popular on the entire Runet space.

Now the situation has changed somewhat, but despite this, already registered users still continue to work in Rambler, because they consider it a comfortable, and most importantly, stable mail service.

Rambler entrance to the mail and checking incoming letters

Pre-registration is required to enter the mail and receive a mailbox. In order to go through this procedure, you should go to the site for entering the Rambler-mail service and press the " Start mail».

Registration on Rambler

The mail registration page is here: id.rambler.ru

A registration page will open in front of you, which will consist of 2 stages.

By the same principle that mail services and Yandex have, the created email box becomes for the user an account for authorization on all services that Rambler provides to its customers. It should be noted that, when registering, the system does not request the introduction of a mobile phone number to increase the degree of reliability and security. This is often a determining factor when choosing a mail service, as some customers do not want to link their phone number to an account.

How to check incoming emails on rambler

For its clients, Rambler has provided several options for switching to viewing messages, namely:

A service such as Rambler-mail will be indispensable for the category of users who prefer convenience and ease of use. Here you will not find a bright design, overloaded with style decisions and the imposition of rather useless services. If you like this approach, then welcome to the mail. rambler mail entrance located above in the article by direct link.

). Rambler in 2011 finally became an ordinary ordinary portal(albeit with a multi-million audience) and their search is now carried out with the help of the once sworn "friend" of Yandex. You can see for yourself the identity of their search results for the same queries.

But nevertheless, I consider it justified the decision to write a short essay on the formation, development and slow death this very first in runet search engine(Rambler was born a year before Yandex and Google, when the number of sites in the Russian-speaking segment of the network was measured in just hundreds).

The search engine Rambler is no longer one.

In the summer of 2011, an agreement was concluded between Yandex and our hero, according to which the search on this mega-portal will henceforth be carried out using the Runet mirror. A little earlier, the option of using Google search was considered, but the compatriot was able to make a better offer (he could not lose after losing his partnership with).

An important aspect The treaty was the division of zones of influence between the systems and the Begun. Initially, there were three main players in the context market in Runet: Direct, Google Adwords and Begun. Each of them took the main share of the profit in the issuance of their search engines.

It was not sweet for the runner anyway, because his donor Rambler was losing its share in the search market with noticeable regularity. Although he had nowhere to go, since the controlling stake in the context Begun belonged to Rambler.

Well, here, after the arrival of Yandex, he had to tighten his belt even tighter - his blocks contextual advertising brought to the periphery of Rambler's search results (shown on the right), leaving the most profitable places to a competitor represented by Direct:

Of course, in addition to the Rambler search results, the context from Begun is also shown on a number of large portals, as well as in the network of partners, but its market share is steadily falling.

And the quality of advertisers in this system leaves much to be desired, so not many webmasters seek to cooperate with Begun (earnings are simply ridiculous). Usually they turn to him if the site was denied both (in my opinion, the most profitable option, especially when working through Profit) and.

The owners of Begun expected that with the advent of Yandex, Rambler's share in the Runet search pie would increase slightly, which would allow them to increase their income, but this did not happen and now it is a meager amount (slightly more than a percent):

Simultaneously with the decision to stop work on the search engine, Rambler owners. Firstly, the spelling of the name was changed - Latin letters were replaced by Russian ones, which, in fact, should have been done a long time ago. Secondly, the company logo has also changed, although for such a well-known brand, the logo is no longer of decisive importance:

Gradually, all the services that are part of this mega-portal will change their appearance to match the new image. Will this help Rambler get out of the abyss into which he drove himself? Time will tell.

This portal includes many well-known services (you will even find the Nichrome browser there, and much more), which developed along with the search engine or were bought by the portal owners over time (more detailed description and the purpose of the services you can see in the help):

It seems to me that Rambler is now mainly used by Internet users with experience who got hooked on it and its services (mail, maps, price.ru, ferra.ru, poster, etc.) at a time when it had not yet fallen into a “cool pique".

Rambler is more alive than dead (for how long)

About a year ago, I read a post by a blogger who is also a school teacher. At the beginning of the school year, he surveyed schoolchildren about what search engine they use. Remarkably, none of them named Rambler, and many have never heard of him at all. From this we can conclude that for this search engine, almost everything is already in the past.

The only service that appeared almost simultaneously with the search engine and has existed until now without special changes, is an . I have already written about him many times, including in an article about. In fact, this is a service that provides a free traffic counter and builds the Top Runet sites based on its readings, subdividing them into appropriate headings.

The appearance of the Rambler Top 100 has not yet been rebranded and it looks, by and large, not ice. In addition, the method of monetization is somewhat striking, when advertising blocks are displayed on top and on the side of the catalog that look a lot like . I have nothing against them, but many people get the impression that the project is not serious (teasers with adult content may be the next step):

Although at the bottom there are still blocks of contextual advertising, but again from the former competitor represented by Yandex. Initially, the Top 100 rating was conceived to simplify the life of advertisers - I chose a rubric and here they are leaders at the very top of the list. I don’t know how relevant this is now, but I personally add all my sites to this Rambler service without fail. Why?

The fact is that due to its monstrous age (it was launched in the spring of 1997), the site of this service has a huge trust, and links from its pages are not closed from being indexed by search engines. Guess what I'm leading up to? No matter how slow and uninformative the Rambler Top 100 service is, participating in it will be useful for any project.

There is such a powerful bourgeois service for analyzing sites and their link mass as Ahrefs (Misha Shakin made his video review). So, there you can see all the backlinks leading to your resource. Moreover, they can be sorted by the internal rating of this service (AhrefsRank), which indirectly reflects the quality of this backlink.

In general, the service is useful and, perhaps, after the rebranding, it will look human (well, its counter will stop being stupid from time to time). If we talk about Rambler as a whole, then the decline has been outlined for quite a long time and the decision to change the search engine was the right one, because their own search was long behind the times.

There were probably quite a few reasons for the decline and decrease in the quality of search in Rambler, but, as I see it, the collapse began ten years ago. The great and terrible Igor Ashmanov, who once stood at the helm of this search engine, writes about this in his book Life Inside the Bubble.

When I wrote articles about the history of Yandex and the history of creation and features of promotion in Google, I mentioned one common point, which, in my opinion, became decisive in that both of these search engines thrive and are successfully developing so far. In both of these companies, the same people (Brin and Page, as well as Volozh and Segalovich) who stood at its origins remained at the helm.

Moreover, these people were in both cases enthusiasts of their work, for whom income was secondary, and the development and advancement of their offspring was primary. This is exactly what I did not find in the history of the development of Rambler. As Igor Ashmanov wrote, the split occurred about ten years ago and those who worked on the search engine initially were thrown out of the cage. Well, as it were, the result was not slow to affect.

The sad story of the search engine Rambler

In general, the history of the creation of Rambler is quite interesting. It began in one of the scientific towns near Moscow, Pushchino. If you remember, then you know that this system was first focused on the military needs of the states, and then for quite a long time served as a means of communication for the scientific communities of America (institutions).

The science city of Pushchino in the early nineties of the last century was notable for being the first city in the Moscow region to have a dedicated line connected to the Internet through Moscow. It was the interest in exchanging data on the latest research in the scientific world that spurred the activists to lay a cable to Moscow almost on their own.

In 1991, the Internet had just begun its victorious march across the planet and practically did not exist yet (it was only in 1989 that the World Wide Web was invented and were used to create modern sites). Enthusiasts from Pushchino themselves raised the postage and ftp server for their needs and even within the entire Internet, they were a significant unit.

Well, and the logical conclusion of the complete Internetization of the scientific community of the city on its own was writing a search engine. For several months, the programmer Dmitry Kryukov successfully coped with this task. In the fall of 1996, the rambler.ru domain was purchased, and on October 8, the site with a search engine became available to Internet users.

Rambler means in translation from English - a tramp. It had no special competitors in Runet, and therefore, until Yandex appeared on the horizon (autumn 1997), it became the sole and absolute leader in search. True, at that time there were only about a hundred sites in Runet.

Six months later (in the spring of 1997), the Rambler top 100 rating, which successfully exists to this day, appeared, which we have already talked about a little higher in the text.

The further history of the development of the search engine is not as unambiguous and straightforward as we could see with Yandex and Google. I do not want to go into the details of the change in leadership and structural changes in the company, but now those who were at its origins no longer work in it. The founder of Rambler, Dmitry Kryukov, died in 2009 from a stroke. Igor Ashmanov created his own brand on the other side of the barricades - he went over to the side of SEOs ().

Although until a certain point (2006-2007) Rambler was well known and it seemed that the prospects for its further development were very favorable. New services were opened or acquired, attendance and profits of the company grew.

For example, in 2006, Rambler was in second place in the Runet search market with a very significant percentage:

It was even seriously ahead of Google, which now seems somewhat fantastic. But the flaws of the leadership and the unwillingness to seriously work on the search engine gradually affected. Already in the next few years (2007-2009), the share of Rambler search decreased several times:

When it seemed that things couldn't get worse (about 5% of the total market), he proved that he could, and his share decreased several times over the following years (2009-2011):

Well, now, when search on rambler.ru is carried out by the Yandex engine (by the way, my situation is exactly the same), there are no objective reasons for its popularity to fall due to poor search quality. It's possible that a market share of around one percent is the current benchmark for this once-popular search engine and now mega-portal.

In general, not so bad, in any case, I'm ready to change places with Rambler, but I'm afraid that its owners will be against it. It makes no sense now to talk about the features under Rambler due to the use of someone else's engine.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the blog pages site

Launched in 1996, it quickly gained immense popularity and remained a leading player in the Russian search market until 2011. Rambler launched the first rating classifier in Runet (Rambler Top100), the first Internet portal, and was the first among domestic Internet companies to enter the stock exchange.

In 2012, the philosophy of the portal was completely rethought - Rambler became a media portal of personalized news.

Rambler won the Runet Prize four times.

As of July 2013, Rambler was ranked 11th in popularity among Russian sites (according to other sources - 9th). The monthly audience of Rambler in 2015 is 26 million people.

On April 5, 2016, Rambler got a new logo - "/" (slash). This is one of the basic symbols of the Internet address, which emphasizes that Rambler stood at the origins of the Runet and has always been and will be associated with the Internet and technology. Slash defines Rambler's strategy as a single platform that helps in solving all the basic desires and needs of a person.

Story

Stack Company (1991-1996)

Among the first projects of the company is the laying of an IP channel from Pushchino to computer network. It was the first Internet channel connected to the network in Russia, extending beyond the capital. Subsequently, the company launched its own ftp-, mail- and www-servers. In 1995, Stack Company launched one of the first websites in the country.

In order to provide scientists with high-quality information, the Stack company created a free network with tens of thousands of documents. This became an important help in the early 1990s, when, in connection with the collapse of Soviet Union stopped sending scientific journals from abroad.

In 1994, the Stack Company team decided to create a search engine.

Rambler

The decision to create our own search engine was made due to the fact that foreign search engines often poorly perceived Cyrillic and web pages with several encodings, and the depth of indexing of Runet pages was also low.

The core of the search engine was written in a few months in 1996 by Dmitry Kryukov. He also gave it the name Rambler (translated from in English- "wanderer", "tramp", "loitering person") - a hint of a search robot, "wandering" on the network. The authorship of Kryukov also belonged to the Rambler logo. The work on creating a search engine was funded by the internal resources of the company "Stack" and was extremely time consuming:

Oh, I do not wish anyone, if someone wants to create something like this, I will say: think three or four times before you do it. First of all, it's really hard work. I work from 10 in the morning until 2 or 3. Now it’s easier, but you need to be aware that the writing does not end there ...
From an interview with Planet Internet magazine, October 1997

It was a strategically important and farsighted step of the company at that time, since the number of Runet Internet resources at that time reached only 30-50 sites.

In the very first year of its existence, Rambler became the undisputed market leader. At the same time, Rambler was not the first search engine in the Russian segment of the network - back in December 1995, Altavista appeared, in February 1996, Aport was announced; Yandex was released a year later, on September 23, 1997.

In 1999, www.rambler.ru was recognized as the best website created by a Russian company according to the International Computer Club (ICC).

The growing popularity of the service prompted the opening of a Moscow representative office, which at one time was located in a room at the Orlyonok Hotel.

At the beginning of 1999, a controlling stake (53%) of Rambler was sold by Stack to investment companies Russian Funds and Orion Capital Advisors. On January 26, 2000, the consortium that appeared in this way transferred ownership of trade marks Rambler, Top100, iXBT. On June 27, 2000, Rambler Internet Holding was registered. According to the recollections of eyewitnesses of the events, this step became fatal for Rambler. As a result, the founders of the company were relegated to the background, and the management was farmed out to people far from the industry. The company began to be pursued by the frequent change of leadership and team, the loss of strategy.

At the end of 2000, a conflict occurred between the creators of Rambler and investors, which ended with the departure of the former (among them were Dmitry Kryukov and Sergey Lysakov). Since then, the company "Stack" and the search engine it created have lived a separate life. The founders sold the stake to FMCG (First Mercantile Capital Group). According to the memoirs of Anton Nosik, who worked at that time as the president of Rambler:

Since then, Rambler has become a major web portal, focusing, among other things, on the American Yahoo! . However, he began to lose the technological race to competitors.

year 2000

By this time, the search engine was outdated. The fact is that until the end of 1999, only one person supported the search engine - Dmitry Kryukov. There was no search by numbers, morphology, binding to the catalog, which unfavorably distinguished the product from local competitors - Yandex and Aport.

Therefore, from summer to December 2000, a new search engine was being developed, presented at the Russian Internet Forum the following year.

Although it should be noted that in 2000 Rambler was still the most popular search engine on the Russian Internet. As of the summer of 2000, the project accounted for 47.4% of the Internet audience.

In August 2000, e-mail appeared (Mail.Rambler.ru), which has been working since June 23 in test mode. The following services also appeared this year: Rambler-Law information and legal resource, Dictionaries (electronic versions of dictionaries), Rambler-Career (job search service), FreeNet (free Internet access service), Photo Report and "Maps on the Rambler". In November, a search appeared on Russian ftp servers.

In September, the design and structure of the site underwent major update taking into account the concept of "horizontal portal".

Foreign projects were launched for Germany and Bulgaria. The German project (www.rambler.de) had a search and a rating system and was created for Russian-speaking residents of Germany (about 3 million people), with content in Russian. The Rambler-Bulgaria project (www.rambler.bg), launched on October 9, 2000, on the contrary, was aimed exclusively at local topics, with an interface, content and counter in Bulgarian and indexation of Bulgarian resources. The Bulgarian version was created in order to test the possible mass cloning of Rambler abroad; 12 days before the opening of the portal, the leadership of Rambler arrived in Bulgaria, consisting of Dmitry Kryukov, Oleg Bartunov, Ivan Panchenko and Evgeny Rodichev.

The company participated in 10 games “What? Where? When? » 2000 to promote the brand after abandoning direct advertising campaigns in the spring of that year. From August 27, along with connoisseurs and viewers, a team of Internet users (or simply the Internet team) began to participate in the games. To participate, it was only necessary to register on the Rambler website (igra.rambler.ru - today this is a redirect to the Rambler gaming service); a computer randomly selected a thousand people from the registered ones. The question was asked at the same time to experts and the Rambler team, and in a minute the portal gave out the most frequently encountered user response. Participation in the games of the connoisseurs was a hugely successful publicity stunt and led to a surge in attendance and an increase in registrations. Here is how Igor Ashmanov describes what was happening:

According to the original idea, the Portal was supposed to appear in this game as a kind of World Mind, united by the intellect of millions, another participant who guesses the answers almost better than living erudite participants. It was a good idea and, perhaps, the most successful marketing project of the Portal.
Igor Ashmanov, Life inside a bubble

In general, at the end of 2000, Rambler remained the most popular website and Internet brand in Russia.
