PC win 8.1 optimization removal of invisible processes. Identification of applications using a large number of resources

Microsoft, when introducing Windows 8, focused on improving performance and optimizing the new operating system, compared to its predecessors. In my opinion, Windows 7 is generally successful, both in terms of stability and performance, especially when compared with Vista.

But, nevertheless, Microsoft with Windows 8 set a goal to increase performance compared to the Seven
It is too early to say whether they have reached their goal or not, while few users have installed themselves new windows, and have not been tested enough, but in general it has been observed that when booting up and shutting down, the Eight is faster, and overall performance seems faster. This happens because Window 8 uses less memory and disk space, consumes less CPU resources
Windows 8 file manager, task manager, and even the installation process itself has been optimized, the ultimate goal of these improvements is to increase performance and minimize resource consumption, which in turn will lead to lower power consumption and, possibly, increase the time battery life on laptops, tablets and other mobile devices. After all, the focus on mobile devices windows 8 is visible to the naked eye. Thus, it is not necessary to buy a new computer to install Windows 8, it should work well on computers sharpened for windows 7. However, if you have older hardware, then this is also not a reason for frustration. In this article, we will look at how to optimize Windows work 8, including on old hardware.

Windows 8 minimum system requirements

Although Windows 8 is latest version operating system from Microsoft, its minimum requirements not much higher than Windows Vista released 6 years ago
By Microsoft data, Windows 8's hardware requirements:

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or higher
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • Video card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

If you would like to take advantage of some of the helper features and Windows features 8, these additional elements will also be required to:

  • To use the touch, you need a tablet PC or monitor that supports multi-touch.
  • To access the Windows Store to download and run the program, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.

Let's start optimization

After installing the operating system. It would be good to clean up any unwanted debris left from the installation. For these purposes, for example, CCleaner is suitable.
Let's go directly to the settings. Select My Computer, click right click mouse and select Properties. If you can't find My Computer, there are two ways to do it.

    1. Right Click - Personalize - Change Desktop Icons - Check My Computer
    1. Click on Explorer on the taskbar - On the left is my computer

Select Advanced system settings - Performance Settings

Once open, go to the Visual Effects tab and then check "Ensure best performance" and click Apply.

If there is a visual effect that you need, then you can choose it individually, but remember that each effect degrades the performance of the computer.

Turn off dynamic tiles

For further Windows optimizations 8 on older hardware, it's a good idea to disable many unnecessary startup items, possibly disabling unused hardware, and disabling any non-essential dynamic (i.e., network-attached) tiles.
Disabling dynamic tiles is a breeze. On the start screen, simply right-click on any Live Tile and select the option at the bottom of the screen to turn off dynamic tiles.

By default, Windows 8 starts Sports, Travel, Finance, News, Mail, Bing and Weather and are all active. If you can live without them, then it makes sense to turn them off.

Shutdown of not used equipment

There are not many hardware that can be disabled. Disabling however speeds up Windows, it will boot faster and free up RAM because the component driver will not be initialized. There are two ways to disable hardware via BIOS system or in the Hardware Manager. The BIOS method is preferred because the component will not even be found by Windows. The exact procedure will vary from system to system, but usually you will need to press F2 or DEL as soon as the computer is turned on. To disable hardware components through Device Manager, To do this, right-click on my computer - Properties - Device Manager. To delete, select the device and right-click, select disable.

Which devices can be disabled

  • Built-in modem - all old laptops have a Dial-up modem
  • built-in network card if you use Wi-fi or 3g modem
  • CD-DVD drive, I don't even remember the last time I used it
  • Com (RS-232) and LPT ports
  • And more (Bluetooth, wi-fi if you do not use)

Autoload settings

To disable unnecessary startup items, you can use third-party CCleaner programs or the Windows 8 built-in configuration utility (MSConfig). As a rule third party programs more flexible and have more options. For example CCleaner has additional features, which allows you to customize the launch of add-ons Internet Explorer if you want to clean up your browser

On fresh Windows 8, there won't be many startup items. After installing many applications, they will be an order of magnitude higher there, they must be disabled. To disable unnecessary startup items in CCleaner, click on the Tools button on the left side of the program menu, and then click on the start button. In the boot menu, click on Windows tab, and every program that starts with Windows will be listed. Remove all unnecessary checkboxes, with the exception of the antivirus and utilities that you regularly use

There are several ways to disable services in Windows 8, but using the System Configuration utility (aka MSConfig) seems to be the most reliable and least confusing. To run System Configuration, press WIN + R, in the Run field paste MSConfig and press enter . Microsoft services". This will protect you from disabling services you know you need and identifying third-party

Disabling some services will not affect applications in any way. But there are services, when disabled, the application for which it is responsible will stop running. So be careful.

Disabling User Account Control

Every time UAC (User Account Control) warns, a window pops up and this window suspends the system and requires confirmation, but the warning and screen dimming effect can take forever on older hardware. Eliminating the UAC notice completely can greatly improve Windows performance 8 on old hardware. But it is possible to minimize the number of pop-ups while still having a certain level of additional protection, you can also just lower the UAC notification level.

To do this, pull out the Charms menu by placing the mouse cursor in any upper or lower right corner of the screen, or press win+C (others) and click on the search icon. Then highlight Options in the search bar and type UAC in the search field. "Change User Account Control Settings" will appear in the left pane.

Next, just drag the slider down one step, after that Windows 8 will notify you only when an application tries to make changes to the system. Moving the slider all the way down will disable all notifications, which is not recommended. However, if you are confident in your antivirus software, then UAC can be turned off completely

At creating Windows 8.1 developers relied on the most modern Computer techologies. Nevertheless, this OS works fine on older computers with a fairly modest configuration: the requirements for hardware the "eight" is almost the same as in Windows Vista.

Unlike solid state drive, to improve performance hard drive it is necessary to defragment immediately after installing the system. In this case, instead of the standard defragmentation utility, it is better to use the more powerful and functional free program Defraggler. It will analyze more efficiently file system and better eliminate file defragmentation, which will make it possible to slightly increase system performance.

The ideal option is to install and run Defraggler immediately after installing the OS. And although some skeptics may argue that the differences in computer performance after defragmenting disk space and placing system files in adjacent areas are minimal, with a comprehensive optimization of the system, the combination of such trifles adds up to the best performance.

Cleaning up junk files

Instead of another system utility, Windows Disk Clenup, which removes excess from the disk, is better to use free program CCleaner.

It can be used to perform the following operations:

  • Delete unnecessary unused files;
  • Optimize the boot process;
  • Check the system registry for errors;
  • Completely remove installed programs.

Driver updates

Many issues related to "slowdown" of the OS can be completely avoided if you install updated drivers for the equipment installed on your computer. To check the possibility automatic update drivers, open the charms bar, and select "Computer Settings". Click on "Change settings", go to the item Windows Update.

We click "Check for updates", we look at what is available to us at the moment.

Configuring system settings

The performance of Windows 8.1 can be greatly improved by changing the visual effects settings and changing the virtual memory size. Go to the "Control Panel", select "System" and then "Advanced system settings".

In the "System Properties" window that appears, look for the "Advanced" tab, in it the "Performance" section, then click the "Settings" button.

In the new window, you can set the switch to the maximum OS speed mode. Users who wish to leave visual effects, you can tick them.

By selecting the "Advanced" tab, you can change the amount of virtual memory and the paging file.

Disabling unused parts

If you want your old computer worked faster under Windows control 8.1, it's better to disable the following:

  • Unused in this moment equipment;
  • Extra services and programs from startup;
  • Tiles that do not carry important information.

On the Metro home screen, select any tile, right-click and select the appropriate item from the context menu.

It is completely painless to turn off tiles that are active by default, without which it is quite possible to do.

There is an opinion that Windows 8 slows down, is buggy, and rather than trying to optimize its work, it is easier to install the already proven "seven" or even XP. In fact, the eighth Windows spends less resources and is a natural development of the product.

Ways to optimize and increase the performance of Windows 8.1

1. Changing power settings

By default, the operating mode of the Windows processor is underestimated. This is done to avoid overheating and the rapid removal of iron from the system. If you have a good cooler, you can "overclock" your processor to the maximum through the system settings.

2. Defragmenting Hard Drives

Proven and, so to speak, old-fashioned method - defragment / optimize hard drives. The essence of the process lies in the fact that clusters scattered throughout the system are ordered and "stored" more rationally.

3. Disabling visual effects

If convenience and comfort are not important to you, then to optimize the work and increase the performance of Windows 8.1, you can disable the animation when minimizing / maximizing windows in the system settings, as well as some other effects thought out by the creators for a purely aesthetic purpose. For settings, go to: "Control Panel" -\u003e "System" -\u003e "Advanced System Settings", the "Advanced" tab, in it the "Performance" section, the "Settings" button.

4. Analysis of resource-intensive applications

In the Task Manager application, accessible by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctr + Alt + Delete, you can view, in percentage terms, which processes are the most energy-consuming. You can manually disable programs that "pull" a lot of resources and "load" the processor.

5. Startup cleaning

When you turn on the computer, processes that are not constantly used are often loaded. IN previous versions The Windows startup registry could only be cleaned using specialized programs. In version 8.1, this feature is provided by the developers as standard. If you wish, you can disable startup programs that are not necessary for your daily work.

6. Using the standard msconfig utility In order not to bother with the search for third-party optimizer programs, you can always use the convenient and functional msconfig tool, which allows you to disable and enable startup programs, control OS boot options and select additional options, configure the operation of all services and service applications.

To launch the configurator, press the key combination Win + R, in the window that appears, enter msconfig, then the OK button. A window with various settings will open, where you can independently select the necessary parameters.

7. Using built-in security programs

It is customary to use antiviruses such as Kaspersky, Doctor Web, Avast, Norton. These programs, by definition, "load" the computer. Windows 8.1 includes built-in programs that are optimized to work with this particular system, and, accordingly, “pull” fewer resources.

As you can see, enlarge Windows performance 8.1 and optimize its performance will be easy for any user.

Greetings to all readers!

I think I will not be mistaken if I say that at least half of laptop users (and conventional computers) are not satisfied with the speed of their work. Sometimes, you look, two laptops with the same characteristics - they seem to work at the same speed, but in reality one slows down, and the other just “flies”. Such a difference can be for various reasons, but most often due to unoptimized operation of the OS.

In this article, we will consider the question of how to speed up a laptop with Windows 7 (8, 8.1). By the way, we will proceed from the fact that your laptop is in good condition (that is, everything is in order with the pieces of iron inside it). And so, go ahead...

1. Speed up your laptop by adjusting the power options

At modern computers and laptops have several shutdown modes:

- hibernation (PC will save on HDD everything that is in random access memory and turn off)

- sleep (computer goes into low power mode, wakes up and is ready to work in 2-3 seconds!);

- shutdown.

Us in this issue most interested in sleep mode. If you work on a laptop several times a day, then it makes no sense to turn it off and on again every time. Each turn on of the PC is equivalent to several hours of its work. It is not at all critical for a computer if it works without shutting down for several days (or more).

Therefore, advice number 1 - do not turn off the laptop if you work with it today - it's better to just put it into sleep mode. By the way, sleep mode can be enabled in the control panel so that the laptop goes into this mode when closing the lid. There you can also set a password to exit sleep mode (except for you, no one will know what you are currently working on).

To set up sleep mode - go to the control panel and go to the power settings.

Control Panel -> System and Security -> Power Options(see screenshot below).

System power settings.

Now, you can simply close the lid of the laptop and it will go into sleep mode, or you can simply select this mode in the “shutdown” tab.

Putting a laptop / computer to sleep (Windows 7).

Output: As a result, you can quickly resume your work. Isn't this a tenfold acceleration of the laptop?!

2. Disable visual effects + adjust performance and virtual memory

A fairly significant load can be provided by visual effects, as well as a file used for virtual memory. To configure them, you need to go to the computer's performance settings.

To start, let's go to Control Panel and in the search bar, enter the word “performance“, or you can find the tab “Setting the presentation and system performance” in the “system” section. Open this tab.

In the tab " visual effects"Put the switch in the "ensure the best performance" mode.

In the additional tab, we are interested in swap file (so-called virtual memory) . The main thing is that this file is located on the wrong section of the hard drive on which Windows 7 (8, 8.1) is installed. The size is usually left at the default, as the system chooses.

3. Setting up startup programs

Almost every guide to optimizing Windows and speeding up your computer (almost all authors) recommends disabling and removing all unused programs from startup. This guide will be no exception...

1) Press the combination of buttons Win + R - and enter the command msconfig. See picture below.

2) In the window that opens, select the "startup" tab and uncheck all programs that are not needed. I especially recommend disabling the flags with Utorrent (decently loads the system) and heavy programs.

4. Acceleration of the laptop to work with the hard drive

1) Disabling the indexing option

This option can be disabled if you do not use disk search for files. For example, I almost never use this opportunity so I suggest turning it off.

To do this, go to " my computer"And go to the properties of the desired hard drive.

2) Enable caching

Caching allows you to significantly speed up the work with the hard drive, and therefore speed up the laptop as a whole. To enable it - first go to disk properties, then go to the "hardware" tab. In this tab, you need to select the hard drive and go to its properties. See screenshot below.

5. Cleaning the hard drive from debris + defragmentation

Garbage in this case refers to temporary files that are used by Windows 7, 8 at a certain point in time, and then it does not need them. The OS is not always able to delete such files on its own. As their number grows, the computer may start to work more slowly.

It is best to clean the hard drive from "junk" files with the help of some utility (there are many of them, here are the top 10 :).

In order not to repeat yourself, you can read about defragmentation in this article:

Personally, I like the utility BoostSpeed.

After launching the utility - just press one button - scan the system for problems ...

After scanning, click the fix button - the program fixes registry errors, removes useless junk files + defragment the hard drive! After the reboot - the speed of the laptop increases even "by eye"!

In general, it is not so important which utility you use - the main thing is to regularly perform such a procedure.

6. A few more tips to speed up your laptop

1) Choose a classic theme. It consumes the resources of the laptop less than the others, which means it contributes to its speed.

How to customize theme/splash screen etc.:

2) Turn off gadgets, and generally use their minimum amount. Most of them are of dubious use, but they load the system decently. Personally, I had the “weather” gadget for a long time, and it demolished it, too. in any browser it is also displayed.

3) Remove unused programs, well, it makes no sense to install programs that you will not use.

4) Regularly clean your hard drive of debris and defragment it.

5) Also check your computer regularly antivirus program. If you do not want to install an antivirus, then there are options with online verification:

In general, such a small set of measures, in most cases, helps me optimize and speed up the work of most laptops with Windows 7, 8. Of course, there are rare exceptions (when there are problems not only with programs, but also with laptop hardware).

If your OS Windows 8 or (8.1) works slowly and takes a long time to load, which means it is under increased load.

What will it take to optimize and speed up Windows 8 (8.1)? First of all, you will need to reduce the number of processes at the time your Windows starts, close everything desired programs, which are launched and run in background, as well as clear temporary memory files. So first things first.

Disable the launch of unnecessary applications and programs

1. Let's go to the "Task Manager" (Who does not remember - press Win + X at the same time).

2. Click on the "Startup" tab. Thus, we disable unnecessary programs when Windows boots. We look at the degree of influence of activity on loading and disk (last column), if it is not there, then you can not turn it off. Select them and click - "Disable". I noted that in my case it can be disabled.

Clearing temporary files and buffers

1. Press "Win + R" at the same time, in the window that appears, enter "% temp%" and click on "OK".

2. Using the key combination "Ctrl + A", select them or click on the "Select All" button. Of course, you can select with the mouse, to whom it is more convenient. We delete them. As you can see in the screenshot, I deleted 36,392 files, while freeing up almost 1.5 GB, imagine how much unnecessary garbage was!

3. Repeat step 2, but now enter “temp” into the line, then “OK”.
4. A list of files that we also delete will drop out. As a result of this action, I freed up another 739 MB of disk space!
5. The next item on optimizing Windows - go to "My Computer" select the drive where you have the system installed, right-click and select "Properties" in the pop-up menu.

6. Click "Disk Cleanup", Check the boxes for cleaning. As a result, I freed my C drive from another 2.5 GB of unnecessary junk.

To optimize, we clean up unnecessary services

1. By the usual pressing of Win + R, we call up a pop-up window, write "msconfig" and click "OK".
2. Click on the "Services" tab, select the "Do not display Microsoft services" checkbox, check what you do not need when working. We all press the "Apply" button.

Making changes to the Windows 8 registry settings

1. Press "Win + R" again, use the "regedit" command to call the registry editor.
2. Find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Mouse tab.
3. We are looking for “MouseHoverTime” on the right side of the screen, click on it and enter 100 in the window that opens, click “OK”.

4. Next, go to the tab HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> Current Set Control -> Control.
5. Everything is the same, we are looking for - "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" and change it to 1000.

If you follow all these steps to optimize Windows 8, then your computer will run noticeably faster! And free up your hard drive, like in my case 4,739 GB.
